Ylang In Gold Edition Speciale

Ylang in Gold is the perfume I have been searching for for years. If anyone else is like me and has been searching for a replacement for the now discontinued Fragonard Miranda, this girl is it. Ylang in Gold is such a stunner and has my absolutely all time favorite note combinations of coconut, vanilla and ylang ylang and Ylang in Gold may do this combination better than anyone else out there right now. It's worth noting that while my bottle is the special edition bottle pictured here, I am certain that I have the original/non special edition of this because I ordered it direct from the M. Micallef site (and the website shows it now in this bottle too.) I note this because while Ylang in Gold has a bit of a bright tropical flair from the ylang ylang, I do not get the overly loud beachy banana sunscreen scent others do. This is largely because of the sage, rosemary and mint notes that are really present for me in the opening help tone this down from super tropical to a more grounded and grown scent. For the first hour or so, I would even say it has a bit of a soapy undertone as a result. This is further reinforced for me by the sandalwood and vanilla in the base and all of it combined makes Ylang in Gold something that you could wear year round. The coconut is refined and one of the better coconuts I have smelled (I absolutely love a coconut note and they can be a little generic sometimes.) Overall this is a very sophisticated yet happy fragrance. I can't imagine you'd ever be in a bad mood while wearing this and it is, in my opinion, signature scent worthy. A very minor thing, because of the gold flecks in this perfume it's not one to spray on your clothes in my opinion and the gold can dry sort of blotchy if you don't rub your wrists together.

Banana candy and Pepsi with a hint of L’Interdit EDP for top and middle notes. Did I get the right sample? I was really banking on loving this because the bottle is visually stunning, and the fragrance itself was advertised so well by influensters online, but this is not cutting it for me. This makes me nauseous. It smells modern and clean, but it has a men’s cologne type of muskiness that seems to trigger headaches for me. Projection is good, but it’s sterile, and I just can’t. I was hoping for a more milky and tropical concoction. Dry down is banana candy with Vicks vaporub. SO thankful I didn’t blind buy this. ——— Update: I feel so Punk’d. How did this transform from a confusing, musky and medicinal scent to a delectable and addictive, whipped tropical goodness? I can’t stop sniffing my wrists. It’s so creamy and fluffy and, yes, I totally smell the bananas (and I don’t even like bananas)! This makes me want to attend a luau party! There’s a powdery effect that sits at the back of my throat, but I don't mind it, not one bit. How did this fragrance do this? This is witchery. When I rewatched reviewers on Youtube talk about how this is their recommended summer scent, I totally get it now and am all for it. This went from 1/5 to 5/5 in a matter of a week. I’d say give it time before you run your mouth on Fragrantica like me. It’s an acquired taste or not everyone would get it at first sniff. And maybe I won’t get complimented for this, but, heck, I love how I smell! It’s that type of fragrance that would open your mind to new scent possibilities (if you’re a beginner like me) and not give a hoot about what anyone else says. SO thankful I blind bought this.

After years of hearing about how gorgeous M Micallef perfumes are, I finally got my hands (for a decent price) on probably the most loved and hyped of all Micallef’s, Ylang in Gold. I have found on a discount site the Special Edition of the scent. And I have to admit, the hype is real, it’s gorgeous! Breathtakingly beautiful actually... If you’re looking for a sweet, warm, creamy, beachy, tropical floral, smooth, ultra feminine summer time fragrance Ylang in Gold is your best bet. It’s so beautiful, elegant, luxurious, addictive smelling and delicious. The type of scent that transports me on a tropical island. Rich coconut, banana-esque, solar ylang ylang, smooth sandalwood, some hints of bright citrus and lots of sweet, custard like vanilla. Enticing and alluring. I don’t know how it compares with the original Ylang in Gold because I have only smelled that one once, three summers ago during a trip in Rome, so I can’t remember how that one smells to give it a fair comparison. I do remember it was instant love. And I adore the Special Edition! Packaging wise, I prefer the bottle of this edition over the classic bottle for sure. Looks more expensive. Will update more on the performance after a couple of wears. First impressions is that it stays close to the skin, so not big sillage here. However it seems fairly long lasting.

I’ve had my Ylang in Gold for over a month now since scoring my first FB blind buy. I decided to pull the trigger because of all the positivity around this fragrance online, hearing people saying it smells like heaven. Who wouldn’t want to smell like heaven!? Receiving it at first, I was so disappointed. I got a very wired strong alcohol scent in the opening and I was afraid I received an oldie or a spoiled one. Also I couldn’t smell any vanilla at all. The only thing I got was ylang ylang and like nothing else! I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I was so confused, but I decided to spray it on myself a couple days in a row. It grew slowly and in a wired way I was kind of craving it even though I still didn’t love it. So I let it sit for a couple of weeks. After a month the weird alcohol opening is completely gone and I can tell the vanilla FINALLY. It’s weird how it’s actually addicting. It’s just a very impactful and heavy perfume so you need to be in the mood for it. It’s not an everyday scent, to me. But whenever I’ve worn it now I just cannot get enough. I hope, and I believe the vanilla also will just keep getting more prominent as it ages. I’m so glad I gave it a couple of chances. It will forever have a spot in my collection, and I’m very picky with my spots!

I am so happy I did a blind buy on this! I have been looking for this fragrance in stores for months, and have been unlucky. A lot of the youtube fragrances bloggers I watch all rave about this. So I knew it would be good, just it really doesn't do this justice. First spray you have a burst of Geranium and Ylang Ylang with this comforting creamy vibe. A couple minutes on the skin and it really starts to change, bringing this coconut, almost summer sunshine beach smell. It did remind me of sunblock a little bit but this is the most delicious high end niche sunblock you have ever smelled sunblock. So don't take that as a negative, it add to the whole experience. This fragrance really makes you feel like you are the main character on a sunny summer day. the feelings it brings to the table is so worth a full bottle. It will forever been in my collection. SO happy with this and it is a must for anyone who loves these notes. My boyfriend said I smell like yellow flowers swirled with white chocolate, and he is just as obsessed as me this.

This is to die for! Sooo delicious and elegant. It is the perfect summery gourmand, while still maintaining a nice perfumey elegance 💛☀️ It smells like creamy ylang ylang, coconut and jelly beans! It also has a prominent vanilla note that is just delectable. I am very picky with ylang ylang, but this one is a yummy banana type, which is a huge bonus to me. Even though it has a creamy and candy like quality to it, it still remains very luxurious and expensive smelling. It smells very high quality. 🍌🌼🥥🍦 If iridessa (the yellow fairy) from tinkerbell has a scent this would be it. It’s just so delicious, creamy and magical and reminds me of glitter and pixie dust✨🪄 Trust me you will turn heads and receive sooo many compliments with this one. It lasts ALL day and creates a gorgeous scent bubble that envelopes you throughout the day. I just can’t get enough of it. Amazing!!! 10/10

I just received my bottle of Ylang in Gold after finishing my sample. I believe my sample was from the regular version, while my new bottle is this special edition. I don't smell a big difference in scent (although I'd need to smell them side by side to be sure), this smells like the Ylang in Gold I'm familiar with. Also, to reply to the reviews below, mine does have the gold shimmer. I much prefer this opaque bottle than the bedazzled one, so it's a win-win in my book! As for the scent, this is a beautiful, rich and creamy yellow floral and vanilla perfume.The ylang-ylang does pull a little banana-y, but it's so incredibly yummy. It smells like summer, which sometimes is needed on a rainy London day.

Absolutely stunning! This fragrance makes me feel like a sexy golden goddess. I'm so happy it's spring and I can wear her and feel that summer vibe. Though I think this could be worn year round really. The top notes are a bit more fresh and citrus forward, I get the geranium well into the mid. The ylang ylang is present throughout and done in such a beautiful way. It's creamy, vanilla and coconut into the dry down and an extreme joy to wear. The sillage and projection are moderate and longevity is 6 to 8 hours on me. I would absolutely repurchase this beauty and if you love the notes, blind buy worthy as well. The bottle is gorgeous as well. 10/10 😍🥰❤️

I know a lot of people find this version exactly like the original but I’d have to disagree. This version is much better IMO. I find this to be creamier with more coconut & vanilla. I love this and found it to be my signature scent for the summer! I found the original to have more of a vintage vibe and It wasn’t meshing with me well. I also thought there was too much going on in the composition. This is much more modern, especially in the dry down. An intoxicating concoction of Ylang-Ylang, Coconut, Vanilla, and Sandalwood, a true classic!

This is nice but it reminds me of an Agent Provocateur scent (the OG EDP and Miss AP) I used to wear in my 20’s. In fact to me it smells identical to those. It’s a very comforting, relaxing and powdery. I don’t get banana, coconut or vanilla. I can’t really identify any of the notes. My boyfriend’s take on this perfume is that it “smells of money” but he loves it and commented that it was stunning. It certainly does have an intoxicating quality, but since it’s not a new scent to me I can’t really get excited over this. It isn’t unique.

STUNNING! If you think I'm only going to wear this fragrance only during the summer, then you are are wrong!!! I'm in love with this one! On my skin, after the initial burst of ylang ylang and coconut, I'm left with the most delectable vanilla on the planet. It's so creamy and sensual. After dry down, there's not really a tropical vibe left, so I will be wearing this all year round so I can smell this amazing vanilla!

The opening is very feminin and powdery with a very elegant vintagy vibe. Then as it settles i get the most etheral tropical ylang blended with white flowers, and after heating for some time on the skin it gets even more creamy and buttery with coconut and vanilla accords. It's simply a love at first snif for me, it makes me feel like an excotic fairy! So elegant, so creamy, so ethereal.

Very yummy - got compliments from men and women alike. As others have said I find it does NOT last - will have to bring a travel spray in my purse - and projection is low to moderate. For this i agree that it is overpriced. But it is so delicious I splurged on a FB which I'll probably drain to fumes in 6 months at the rate I'll need to be spraying to get thru a full day ;)

Summer version of Hypnotic Poison! I feel great about myself when I wear Ylang in Gold. I cannot even explain. I feel calm and yet powerful and “different”. I am so glad I was able to get my hands on a bottle of this in Iran!

What a beautiful scent. Only slightly sunscreeny, with a heavy dose of vanilla and creaminess, making it very cozy. I think it would be too much in the summer heat. I will probably buy a full bottle for next spring.

This is a beautiful creamy coconut mixed with banana and vanilla. Very sunny, comforting and elegant fragrance. My wedding day fragrance for a reason.

Gentle and soft, and smells like summer. Heavy on the yellow flowers with a touch of vanilla, coconut, and sandalwood. It’s a little sunscreen-like in the opening but develops into a creamy ylang-ylang forward scent. Lasts for about four hours. This is tropical scent but it is a subdued tropical scent with a lovely scent trail. And this smells expensive. Some reviewers say, they smell banana, I kind of smell it but I have to search for it. Projection and longevity is soft and moderate. I did not have any problem with the shimmer but I sprayed far away from my body to avoid any issues. I do agree with some of the reviews below that say the shimmer is unnecessary. I really enjoyed ylang in gold. But I had already fallen in love with Bora Bora when I sampled this. So I would not purchase a full bottle. Now Bora Bora can be a little in your face, so if you want something similar, but softer with the same creamy ylang-ylang note, this is a great alternative. 7/10.

Overall, I do think this is a nice fragrance, but for me, it’s not full bottle worthy. The opening is just a little too harsh on my skin. The combination of geranium, litchi, and citrus comes across much sharper than I was expecting, and unfortunately those notes stick around for quite a while on me. Because of that, it takes much longer for me to get to the creamy ylang-ylang vanilla dry down that everyone else seems to experience much sooner. Once it finally settles, I completely understand the hype. The dry down is beautiful, luxurious, warm, tropical, and elegant without leaning sunscreeny. I just wish it got there faster. The opening just overstays its welcome, and I find myself waiting for the part of the fragrance that I actually love. While I can absolutely appreciate where it ends up, the journey to get there keeps this from being full bottle worthy for me. I will happily use up my sample, but I don’t see myself reaching for a full bottle.

The shop assistant told me I'd like this and oh my god, was she right! But right after the thoughts 'This is amazing!' and 'Gotta have it!' crossed my mind, it was quickly followed by 'Oooh, what does this remind me of?' 10 minutes later, I got it - it was Chopard's Cašmir! Since Casmir is one of my favourite scents of all time, with amazing performance, and I already have backup bottles, I was glad I have already satisfied the 'Gotta have it!' part 😅 . There are differences, but they are slight, of the kind you'd find when using one fragrance on same the person but on different days, or between two people with just slightly different skin chemistries. The longevity is better on Chopard (I spray it before work, and can still sense it when I get back home) than on Micallef (it kept going nicely for an hour, but then started to die down).

It’s a freshly picked apricot dipped in honey for me. This screams summer and if you go deeper it will say summer at the grandma’s house (Eastern European people will get me). Fragrance is very very sweet but in a good, expensive way. It doesn’t give me nausea or headaches, but take this with a grain of salt because I am not prone to headaches from fragrances. Money wise I don’t think it’s worth it, after owning this for over half a year. Yes it’s a sweet, maybe nostalgic scent for some BUT it doesn’t stand out, unfortunately. I am sure it can go well as a top layer fragrance with some heavy leather/spice/amber scent as a base. P.S. after reading what I just wrote I can say I am still confused by this fragrance and not sure if warm cozy nostalgia overcomes the fact that this is very much mediocre perfume for such price.

Ylang In Gold is floral and creamy, opulent but not oppressively heavy, playfully tropical yet elegantly sensual. This is a smooth and creamy fragrance that opens with a burst of Ylang Ylang that quickly settles down and starts waltzing with the vanilla. The sandalwood in here is subtle and beautifully blended, and the coconut notes are just enough to give the tropical touch to the fragrance without being overwhelming. There is depth to this fragrance , and a certain sensuousness making it the perfect date night scent, or an “I’m glamorous” fragrance, especially for summers. Indian readers would remember Priyanka Chopra in the gold swimsuit in Dostana. That glamourous, sensuous yet playful vibe is what Ylang in Gold is all about. If that’s your kind of vibe, you need to check out this fragrance.

This is just Casmir by Chopard but it costs £100 more! Genuinely, if you like this scent then Casmir is the one.... I just couldn’t believe it when I smelt Ylang in Gold! Casmir is actually a bit sweeter than this overall but so so similar. If you want the same profile but a less tangy version with even more vanilla, then go for the original Avon Far Away!

Very pretty. This is a creamy banana, vanilla and coconut scent. Perfect for warm weather and tropical locations. I wish there wasn't shimmer in this because I am limited to only spraying on skin. It will definitely show up more on darker clothes.

It is a very lovely scent, warm and cosy and it is very, very similar to Casmir by Chopard, and I think I like Casmir better, I find it more complex. Anyway, Ylang in Gold is lovely, but if you want to save a lot of money, go for Casmir.

It has an acetone/nail polish note that doesn't go away until hours of wearing it.

I do not understand the hype for this. All I smell is banana and sandalwood ... and the sandalwood is a lot stronger than I would’ve thought based on all the reviews I saw online. It is dead winter at the moment where I am so I will try again in the summer but it smells like woody cheap sun tan lotion. After about an hour or two the vanilla does take a much more prominent role and I don’t mind it as much then. I blind bought a full bottle based on all the rave reviews and I’m sorely disappointed. Hopefully in hotter weather it will transform and showcase all the hype surrounding it. Edit: I think it needed to sit and settle down for a little bit. It’s still not worth the price tag IMO but the vanilla is more prominent in the dry down and the sandalwood isn’t as sharp. It’s “tolerable” now for me personally, but still not a like yet. I hope by the time summer comes (4-5 months) it’ll have really macerated well and it’ll be ready for the hotter weather.

Nose Note #245 Beware!!! It has golden shimmer in the juice. Don't stain your clothes. It doesn't smell like perfumery to me. Smells just like "cosmetics", and not high end, but something from Avon, Oriflame and such. To me the smell is a very common one. My wife didn't like it either. I think this blend of ylang-ylang, sandalwood, vanilla and coconut is very awkward.

Smells like a nail polish remover which is sold in my country. Whenever I wear this, feel like that I apply some chemicals from that remover as well. So a big no from me.

Does anyone have any layering suggestions for this scent? I blind bought it and it smells like cat piss to me. I am letting it macerate. It's been about 4 weeks, it's not getting any better. I can't return it. Just wanted to be able to do something to make it nicer or somewhat tolerable at least.

First of all, I've been tempted by the bottle design and I've personalised it. What a vanity fair! As for the scent itself, there is a bit too much hype around it, in my opinion. It is definitely classy with a strong classic vibe. Naturally rough combination of sandalwood and ylang-ylang is maximally smoothened here and the base vanilla notes smooth out the whole composition even more. It does share the same profile with Casmir by Chopard but it's definitely more elegant. The "pickle juice" sandalwood makes it more special and drives the whole composition away from being boring. The coconut is refined and definitely not generic. It's creamy, lactonic and delicate and it transforms the classic vibe you smell at the beginning into a dreamy tropical, a very holiday like mood. I wear this fragrance with pleasure but it doesn't have a wow effect on me.

To those confused about this and the original (beautiful) bottle the two are completely identical - and with gold shimmer both of them, however maybe slightly less intense in the new one - as if the flakes are even smaller (but definitely there!!). Oh, I may be alone with this opinion, but I do miss the beautiful, former elegant see-through bottle with the crystals and the visible gold inside that just called out for you to shake it before spraying (as anyone with that urge when seeing a snow globe would understand). I really dislike this “thick and heavy” white bottle with gold flakes splashed carelessly on it. Yes, I’m aware they may be exactly the same shape, size and weight but the impression is just so different in my eyes. Luckily the juice is the same but for me as a collector the bottle really matters. 💔

I had a little sample of OG Ylang in gold and when I finally decided I want a full bottle, the only one that was available at a time was special edition gold. I didn’t think much of it, though they just changed the bottle design and ordered it. But the thing with this fragrance, is that unlike my sample of the original, it did not last and smelled somewhat different. As I write this review I have four sprays of Gold edition on my wrist and I barely can smell it! I have to bury my nose in it to smell anything. That’s really annoying since it’s a perfume, but has a projection of a scented lotion. Can anybody confirm that this white bottle with gold design is a reformulation of an original ?

I've never smelled the original Ylang in Gold but I have this version and it's super creamy, vanilla, sweet, and features the ylang ylang floral note. Ylang Ylang Nosy Be is not a beachy, coconut scent while this does have that vibe but it's not exactly in the category of Alien Goddess Intense or Bora Bora. This doesn't exactly scream beach to me. You could be riding the subway in NYC and wear this one and still be metro. It's a sophisticated take on this DNA which I like since the majority of my tropical floral+coconut frags are designer. Longevity and projection are +++. If you like these notes, you will like this perfume. No surprises here.

I'm so glad I tried this in person! I happened to get a sample with another order and tried it. I had written it off initially because I usually hate the coconut note but this is SO BEAUTIFUL! I've only liked coconut in To. FORD Soliel Blanc and Mugler Alien Goddess. The coconut is not fake or cloying in this perfume, it is creamy, lactonic and add so much depth. It feels tropical and like gives me the feeling of my skin warming in the sun on the beach. Be mindful that does have gold shimmer in the perfume so it will leave that shimmer wherever you spray it. So glad i tried this, I absolutely love it!

A beautiful fragrance. It's not overly complex, but it is very smooth and well done. I've been on a hunt for a nice tropical vacationy scent and many of the ones I tried just didn't work for me. This one is lovely. It smells like if you were eating a creamy banana coconut dessert in a garden of Ylang Ylang. You definitely need to like Ylang Ylang, because while it does have tropical banana dessert vibes it is definitely Ylang dominated. As it dries down it develops a slight powderiness to it. Once fully dried down it's mostly vanilla. Very gorgeous fragrance and very likeable.

@JPAndy what your getting is an indolic quality that many white flowers and waxy flowers have that is referred to as being "indolic". Some people are more sensitive to it. Ylang Ylang, jasmine, lilies, and tuberose can have it. Try adding a vanilla or coconut scent that does not have a white floral in it. Coconut Sun by 7 Virtues, Vanilla 28, Solinotes Vanilla, Outremer Vanilla, and avoid other ylang ylang fragrances. Ylang Ylang Nosy Be is more Ylang Ylang than Ylang in Gold and the indolic quality is stronger in that one as well as in Bora Bora.

I am wondering how this fragrance give me this feelings of relax and joy at the same minutes, i am wearing and decided to make my signature scent for this summer. The result of mixing notes :Ylang, sandelwood, coconut and vanilla - is kinda cashemir cotton hug during the hottest day of this summer. Outfit: an elegant maxi dress- fabric: egyptian cotton + a leather sandal make up: a tinted sunblock+ a nude lip gloss with a touch of blush

I bought this after having emptied a bottle of Ylang in Gold in the clear bottle with crystals, and I can say that they are exactly the same fragrance. I stand by my previous review: I see absolutely no point in putting a fragrance with pearlescent effect in an opaque bottle. Just get rid of the gold glimmer please, like you had “ylang” in the beginning. I wear fragrances under my clothes and don’t need glimmer, thank you.

Upon first sniff, I'm not sure I quite liked this scent. However, as it dried down I couldn't stop smelling my wrist. It turned into the most intoxicating scent. I wore it again across a few days and I can now confidently express how much I adore this addictive, joyful, comforting scent. I get a hint of banana which I absolutely love. It's comforting, unique, and divinely good!

I had purchased a decant of the original fragrance, then purchased the Special Edition based on loving the decant. I would say the fragrance is slightly different, and the Special Edition does not have the gold pearl effect (it is a clear spray). I need to do a wear test with one on each wrist to better compare them to each other.

@wagnercm15 Thank you. On the website it says it leaves a gold veil on the skin, so maybe if you shake the bottle? I have the OG and if I don’t shake it the pearly particles remain at the bottom. I love this fragrance and am running low, but hesitate to repurchase if the scent is no longer the same.

The opening smells like a creamy vanilla and nail polish remover custard. I blame the Ylang-ylang but the drydown is worth it. It's creamy, custardy and a classy take on a beach vibe imo. I just wish it didn't have the shimmer. It's not 2008 anymore, noone wants to be looking like Twilight.

I'm getting a banana laffy taffy / candy vibe from this that I find slightly off-putting. it is creamy and the sandalwood is nice but I can't "un-smell" the banana and I'm not a huge fan overall. there are other vanilla / yellow floral / woody fragrances I much prefer.

This is powdery with a weird plastic or oil scent to it. I was convinced I would love this... for years it was on my wishlist, when the price was right I finally bought it. I have tried to gaslight myself in to enjoying this fragrance but it makes me feel nauseous.

Is this still the same fragrance in a new bottle or has the scent changed? I also don’t see the point of putting a fragrance with gold pearl effect in an opaque bottle.

Superb fragrance. Just wanted to mention that Casmir by Chopard has nothing in common with this stunning gem of a fragrance from Micallef.
