Recovery

I discovered Macabre Parfum recently. It’s a young and very local brand for me, since I live just a few kilometres away. I found out about it through Daniele Muratori Caputo’s YouTube channel (Nasodani), where he interviewed the founder and perfumer of the brand. The interview was intimate and funny at the same time, and it made me want to try their perfumes. Right now, the brand has four fragrances. Recovery caught my attention first, mainly because of its promo image — honeycomb floating in a kind of mystical fog. The notes listed on Fragrantica don’t fully match the official ones from the website and the note card. Peruvian balsam is missing there, but I can clearly smell it. ALso "milky notes" are missing here. The packaging is beautiful. Dark, very artistic, and made of good-quality paper and cardboard materials with a nice sensorial feel. Mostly black. The sample that comes with the full bottle (I was asked to choos which one) is tied to a small black feather — a great detail. The bottle itself is quite unique, long-shaped, with a translucent resin cap that absolutely feels handmade. The label looks great too. This is an ultra-niche brand, small-scale and almost indie and it really feels like it. The juice color reminds me of a fine liquor, like the Cognac in the pyramid. The only small flaw in my specific case is the atomizer: mine sometimes gets stuck at times. But it still works, and honestly, I forgive it — it almost adds to the handmade charm. The scent itself was a nice surprise. A bit different from what I expected, but really, really good and original. It doesn’t remind me of anything else I’ve tried to date. At first, it smells very balsamic with a very soft lingering sweetness underneath. Over time, the balsamic part stays but becomes softer, and I start to get the warm notes of honey, vanilla, and something like warm milk, as well as the boozyness of the Cognac. I can also pick up the powdery iris, while the spices although present stays pretty quiet and I can only smeel them at the very end of the drydown process. As for the drydown, it is very cozy and smooth — sweet, milky, and comforting, like a rainy evening by the fireplace. That feel that you get with "By the Fireplace" but with a total different twist. More introvert maybe. Projection and sillage are good, but what really strikes me if the bubble it creates around me, balanced and pleasant both when still and when moving. Sorry for the long review, but I think it’s worth giving space to new brands, especially when they bring something original to a tough market. Macabre has a dark soul, but it’s not heavy and aimed only to a small % of perfume lovers. It feels creative, and the prices are verz fair (CHF 100 for 50 ml at 25% concentration).
