Vetyver Bucolique

Vetiver Bucolique is a walk in the park during crisp brown-orange autumn. This is earthy, dry, herbaceous, and slightly sweet. Oftentimes, herbal or earthy perfumes are quite polarising and characterised as darker and edgy; however, bucolique creates vivid, bright imagery of nostalgic autumns of better times, like picnics with your family. The grass is dry, earthy, and you can almost smell the roots. I assume this is the hay, though not the prominent player - the initial spray is a blast of rich sweet spices, entangled with green herbs. The reactions were pretty pleasant to the opening, my mom mentioned it smelled somewhat like "dry, Chinese deserts - maybe plum." The scent does progress faster and becomes more mellow and dry over time, I do enjoy this scent alot.

Gorgeous impression of tobacco-hay-vetiver, helped along majorly by coumarin, I think. I feel like I distinctly smell licorice in the opening, which I really like too. Much heavier than I thought it would be, the hay is sweet and also gives it a mildly animalic tone. This scent to me is late August, when fields around my home town were harvested, late sunshine baking bales. The tobacco smells like shredded tobacco, with it's almost raisin-like scent. Though, at times it did remind me of the popular - though rather ham-handed - Victor & Rolf Spicebomb, with it's sweet vetiver-tobacco, it's shored up so nicely that it sits closer to something like the dry sophistication of Chergui. I really enjoy it, though it is heavy enough to work better as the weather cools.

Opens with a sweet-floral-honeyed vetiver which transforms into 3 different perfumes over the course of the next 6 hours.

Very tobacco-prominent. Because of the name, I was expecting more of a green-vetiver scent, so I was disappointed. It's fairly linear, with a slightly camphorous quality in the opening dissipating to reveal the humid, semi-sweet tobacco note that remains to the end, or at least, for 6+ hours--I admit I got tired of the scent and washed around the 7-hour mark. Tobacco and hay can have a similar scent profile, so I think what I'm reading as tobacco is what the perfumer intended as hay. Maybe it's just a big dose of coumarin, which contains facets of both. After I lightly washed the spots I'd sprayed, the vetiver became apparent. So maybe if I'd waited, the tobacco fog would eventually have lifted to reveal the vetiver, which seems to be of a good quality. In fact, the perfume overall seems to be made of good ingredients, and it certainly doesn't smell bad. The linear tobacco note just tired me out after a few hours. But if you're looking for a naturalistic, semi-sweet, tobacco-prominent fragrance, this could be a good choice.

Opens up with strong hay, bergamot, tobacco, benzoin and becomes drier and more vetiver centric. As time goes by, I get a sense of ginger, cloves, incense, and patchouli as well but as always with this brand, the scents are blended superbly well. Name is a bit misleading as this one is mostly about the tobacco and benzoin. There’s a lot more going with this scent, but the real notes according to their website are vetiver, tobacco, and black honey. Has a vintage characteristic that I truly enjoy and reminds me of Nobile Infinito with the addition of tobacco. Just lovely.

Spices and tobacco. Nice, but it has been done so many times before. I always get excited to try a fragrance that features hay. Apparently, perfumers don't spend much time around hay because they usually end up like this. Again, it is a nice scent, really pleasant, but also very pedestrian. A pass for me.

It smells like dry hay, soft spices, and green vetiver wrapped in a cozy, earthy hug. Calm, natural, and a little nostalgic.

If you enjoy Vetiver scents you'll be happy with this. It has a more subdued/smoother/softer vibe to Encre Noire but a similar profile. The tobacco in this may be what's causing that softer vibe to come out which takes out the robustness of the vetiver that's so present in Encre Noire. This has a nice composition, visually to me this evokes the interior of an empty, cleared-out old mansion where someone smoked tobacco while Encre Noire feels like the deeper, foggy outdoor grounds and hedges outside that surround the estate. Encre Noire feels more complex. The Sillage is this is also low but still lingers for a few hours. Also doesn't project very far. Imho I prefer Encre Noire but that might be because I have a preference for stronger vetiver forward scents. This is good though and I'm happy to have experienced it but I won't be buying a full bottle.

Vetiver Bucolique from Mad et Len evokes a sort of sleazy Rococco decadence stalked by a gloomy, predatory nihilism. Oh, you thought I was going to talk about notes and actually helpful info? Ha ha! I will not! It smells like the kooky, kinky salaciousness of Jean-Honoré Fragonard's iconic painting, The Swing, if you scratched out the creamy pastel frivolity of the faces in some sort of freaky Raskolnokovian frenzy.

Very nice, not that vetiver but bezoin and hay, woth black honey notes woth spices. It is too sweet for me to put on me, but as home fragrance it make great job in my room. Not my style as perfume maybe

Finally, a tobacco scent I can get behind. Dry tobacco leaves, with some spice. This stuff is so powerful.
