Beau

I am heartbroken that this fragrance has been discontinued. I’ve been searching for something that might come close for over a year now. I’ve yet to find anything remotely similar. All the recommendations I see are sandalwood frags and I don’t agree that there is any similarity. I think the palo santo note creates the beauty and uniqueness for me. Nette makes a candle called The Magician that smells VERY similar to me- I’m begging them to make it into a wearable fragrance. If anyone has a bottle or partial bottle of Beau and they are willing to sell, please let me know. The listings for $275 on ebay are cruel. Edit: Ebene Fume (Tom Ford) is the closest I’ve found although I did end up finding a reasonably priced bottle of Beau on eBay. Give Glossier Doux a try too.

For some reason I smell a STRONG lime scent along with the woody smell.

I'm feeling like this is just a wild scent, at once familiar and yet nothing that I have ever smelled before. The foundation seems to be a wood called Palo Santo, which Fragrantica does not even list as a fragrance note (which I guess must mean that it is not that common in perfumes). Apparently this is a tree native to Latin America and is used for purification, and has been described as a "bright, sweet, piney, lemony, woodsy scent." And I think that this is why the scent seems a little familiar to me, because it reminds me of the times I have been in New Mexico and have smelled something like this in churches or old hotels or stores. Perhaps that actually was Palo Santo, or at least something similar. I agree that there is a hint of leather too, which reminds me a bit of what my purse might smell like if there had been a touch of some kind of perfume in there and it was sealed up and then I opened it. And I do smell coconut too, though I'm not convinced that it is actual coconut, maybe more just that the Palo Santo has a sort of coconut undertone to it (but in any case at least is not synthetic coconut which I always hate). I feel like there is a little floral too, but that is not the driver here at all. As with Madewell's other fragrances, this one feels like it really is only botanical without any synthetics in it, which makes it especially impressive that the smell is so distinct and complex. I just have tried a sample so far and wasn't sure at all that I liked it at the beginning, but it has grown on me enough that I probably will buy a small bottle. The sillage is stronger than Madewell's floral fragrances and it lasts for longer too. On me, this was primarily white florals with an underlying edge of leather and coconut, both of which I could just detect. It smells fresh, but may be a little mature for some. Didn't really get any of the woodsy notes. There was a little bit of radiation when I wore it, but nothing too intense, and it faded after about an hour. Lasted about 6 hours on the skin overall.
