Tabak

Tabak was released in the year 2006 and is still one of the bestsellers for the male audience of Mahogany brand. But its success did not come overnight. In fact, Tabak took a ride on the fame of a competitor fragrance, which was launched in 1989 and made it right, for a long time, when globalization opened borders and allowed faster imports, in addition to presenting a new profile of consumption, with more Brazilians traveling abroad. I'm talking about the cologne called Vezzo (L'acqua di Fiori), which, in turn, was inspired by Zino (Davidoff), from 1986. Tabak has notes of bergamot and lemon, followed by notes of lavender, geranium and floral accord, in the heart, on a base of sandalwood, musk, vanilla, tonka beans, and noble woods. Its fragrance matches the color of its bottle because brown is the first color that comes to mind when I feel this perfume on the skin. And the name, of course, takes us straight to the tobacco, the scent by which the original fragrance (Zino) became known, although it does not have such a note in the composition and its smell is the result of a mix of woods, vanilla, and patchouli. Tabak is delicious, manly, sensual, etc. and has a more citrusy and noticeable start than that of Zino. Its light content lingers for most of the evolution and clings to the camphorated and metalized smell of geranium, which is even easier to spot when tested on the olfactory tape. And this confers it its own luminosity, which opens up space for greater versatility in use. Its floral accord is not as remarkable as the one in Zino, but it allows a good evolution to the base, where lives the real secret of the fragrance. Then, a nuance of warm and sweet wood appears, as if bathed in a mixture that resembles bitter chocolate with caramel. And so it remains until it disappears from the body. On my skin, Tabak has an extremely explosive exit, which exhales a lot and becomes calmer, getting much closer to the skin than I would like. The lasting is also good, but nothing extraordinary, even more, if we take into consideration its notes. On me, it lasts an average of six hours. From a comparative point of view, I feel that Tabak was more inspired by the fragrance of Vezzo (its direct competitor in the Brazilian market) than in Zino, which shows me some very different nuances throughout the evolution. The end result is actually similar, but the differences do exist. Tabak has quality and a mature fragrance (without being dated). Undoubtedly, one of the best male fragrances of Mahogany house.
