This does indeed lean a touch feminine the rose and oud are beautifully done I think a guy can so pull this off.As guy I enjoy it.A lot of mens fragrances have rose in them. Do not let that put you off. I now have all 8 the Jean lowe's. And I enjoy all of them For about £20 each you just can not go wrong so what if you use a bottle a month it cost total peanuts to replace.Some of you wont know this but they have just brought out a new one in May 2026 there is no note break down and no info online.Jean Lowe Verde Aura Maison Alhambra £29. inspired by LV Cactus Garden.(discontinued) It seems no one knew this was coming out there is no info on here yet. It is not even on Maison Alhambra website yet at least from what I can see. #1058 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Well, if this was really an attempt to dupe Louis Vuitton "Matiere" then like Jean Lowe "Azure", it's a clear miss. But it's a great scent nevertheless. No sweetness here at all. That's the main difference. But I love this and it will definitely get worn. I was afraid it would be too floral for me, but it's not. I think both men and women can totally pull this off. I don't think it will be offensive in any setting and will work at the office or on a date. It's almost got a barbershop powder quality to it, which evokes many pleasant memories for me, and you cannot beat the price. I consider this a successful blind buy.

I have had my bottle for at least 3 years and I have the original name with the purple juice. When reading the reviews there is a disconnect because no one has mentioned the clean, soapy/powdery ness that I get with this fragrance. I absolutely love this fragrance but I don't get rose and patchouli, its all about clean and soapy for me. Performance is great at least 8 hours on skin and I get wafts of it with movement which I also love. I have not smelt the LV version but as a stand alone this smells great however, I am reluctant to repurchase since the name change, the liquid colour change and the reviews don't mirror what's in my bottle.

Absolutely love this. I tried a decant and now ordering the full bottle. While others are mentioning rose, I always got a pleasant long lasting Narcissus note. I love wearing this both on western formal and Indian ethnic outfits. Somehow this fragrance feels very grounding as it remains steady the whole day. I would compare the soul of this perfume to those of really good oriental saffron perfumes which just keep on wafting in slow steady manner.

This is definitely not Arabic DNA. Matiere reminds me of something French people would wear in Europe. I love it; it’s amazing. I have had it for several years now and forgotten about it and only tried it for the first time today while running errands at home. I was blown away by how beautiful and stylish this perfume smells! It definitely should not be taken for granted! It's great for the office, in my opinion!

I received a renamed bottle, Maître, bottled Dec '24. Plenty of time for it to sit, though I didn't give it much time to settle after shipping before trying. Even still, this scent is beautiful. Rose-y and deep without being too heavy - the mix of brighter florals holding that balance, I think. This is a serious contender for a signature scent.

This is sooooo lush. The rose blending with the frankincense and oud gives a deep richness that immediately reminded me of Coco Chanel. Not in the exact fragrance notes but certainly in it’s presence and personality. This a beautiful fragrance for date night, a quiet evening reading a book, or just because you want to smell divine 💛

really really nice rose oud combo here. wow. its almost like a tart jammy rose backed by a very light oud. this is almost candy like sweet during the mid dry down. oud comes out a bit more as it dries. extremely impressed given the price. i highly recommend if u like any of the rose oud frags.

I honestly think this could be a signature scent. I think this can be worn in summer except for maybe super high heat. The florals and oud are super nice and I think this is super underrated. 9.5/10. Performance is fantastic. This is close to beast mode for me.

I absolutely love this out of the bottle. I feell it's unisex leaning feminine, however, a man could definitely pull this off. Rose with all these wonderful notes that give it an interesting complexity. I personally think it's a great one for the price!

Scent: Maison Alhambra Jean Lowe Matière (my bottle is the rebranded 'Maître') smells like a *watery* version of Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Woman (clone of Tom Ford Noir de Noir). Jean Lowe Matière also smells like a *watery* version of MFK Oud Satin Mood if a bit of *incense* was also added. And for context, Armaf CDN Intense Woman (clone of Tom Ford Noir de Noir) smells very much like MFK Oud Satin Mood but with a mild-to-moderate incense note added. Jean Lowe Matière smells like mildly-sweet jammy rose, a bit of incense, and a well-blended water accord that makes the composition moderately-watery. Ideal for spring and fall. A bit too dark for summer, despite the wateriness. The wateriness of the composition makes it more casual and less opulent/fancy than Armaf CDN Intense Woman and MFK Oud Satin Mood, which are both very opulent/fancy scents. Jean Lowe Matière is still a classy scent but can be an easy-grab daily-driver for women. For the beginners regarding oud: People say they perceive oud in these reviews. They are correct to say this but the oud is not actually perceptible as oud because of the overdose of rose. The mild amount of oud accord used essentially just darkens the composition to give a darker rose and that's the only reason I can guess that there is probably a mild oud accord used for this function. Additionally, there's absolutely zero oud funk in my bottle if you were worried. ----- Gender: Jean Lowe Matière is moderately-feminine -- a bit too feminine to even be considered 'unisex feminine-leaning', though guys can pull it off if they really insist but I wouldn't recommend it. Most-to-least feminine: 1. Jean Lowe Matière is most feminine; 2. MFK Oud Satin Mood is less feminine but still unisex feminine-leaning; 3. and Armaf CDN Intense Woman is least feminine while still being unisex feminine-leaning and is also suitable for confident men during very classy events in my opinion. ----- Recommendation: In my opinion, the best scent out of the three for both women and men is Armaf CDN Intense Woman because I like when incense plays support in almost any composition -- it gives a little badassery. Jean Lowe Matière also has incense (a bit less incense) but the watery accord means it doesn't have the opulent thick density of the other two fragrances. Your taste may differ.

The opening smells like rose water with berries. It's fresh, clean, and floral sweet, Main player is sweet Oud. it's a little feminine sure but wear it with confidence. It gets a tad bit masculine with the earthiness patchouli, and frankincense but still unisex. It's simple, soft, and elegant. I think this would smell great on a woman. Day date approved. I get 8+ hours on skin and it will project for hours, especially in clothes. Personally, I wish it was smokier but I like this.

My bottle is like Ju@nholio77's... it's also a "Maître" bottle. Mine is a rose heavy floral with just the right amount of oud. The oud is dark, but not too funky. Lasts a long time, too. I have to be in the right mood to wear this one. It's not in my normal totation of bottles. I like having it in the collection tho. I think they did a name change on it like they did changing "Ombré" to "Noir."

This is really a beautiful fragrance, but hear me clearly: it is absolutely a woman's perfume. This leans super hard on the feminine side. I could never wear this. I actually would love it if my wife wore it though, because it's delightful.

Very versatile, floral without being overly sweet or complex with a really nice balancing with the more masculine oud/patchouli base. It reads very unisex to me (in a way almost similar to Orphéon).

I don't really care for this one. It's not bad by any means it's just so boring. Honestly the worst part of it is the most interesting part. Of course the worst part is that medicinal/rubbery note that may be from the cyclamen or oud(or both I guess). I've never seen that cyclamen note before so I can't judge it by anything. The rose note itself is pretty nice, and slightly different than most because it smells a little more like actual roses than some others(it's giving me Tea Rose vibes). The off-putting note smells like a 60 year old tin of Vaseline or something else you might put on your achy muscles and joints years and years ago. It also kind of smells like grease like in bearings, or maybe even ear wax. It isn't pleasant to me at all. I don't know why Maison Alhambra chose this particular LV fragrance to clone. I bet there were far better ones to choose from. I love Jean Lowe Immortel, and Jean Lowe Frachie. I see no reason for me to own this. They should have picked a better LV to clone.

I think I received a fake "Matiére" since the one I received is called "Maître". It smells weird, like burnt incense, with notes of rubber and smoke. Could it be a newer batch?

Nope I dont like this one. I have a difficult relation to rose and this one hits too much that rose note. ill pass but it should be a good frag for rose enthusiasts

Smells like car tyres after you drift

Something obviously got changed up somewhere along the way. I have two bottles of Jean Lowe Matiere and both have purple juice. There has to be a difference between the purple and orange juice. This is clearly not a dupe of LV matiere noir. This is an excellent dupe of LV Heures d'Absence. I have the original and the Jean Lowe Matiere and they smell identical. I don’t have Matiere Noir, but I can tell you that it smells nothing like the notes listed for Matiere Noir.

This stuff is awesome! Really nice simple Oud/floral. Oud is slightly funky, if you're not into that be warned. I'm not sure why they didn't keep the blackberry note from the original but I think I prefer this. (Although I've never smelled the original) it's so nice to smell oud with something other than just rose! Performance is really good too. Lasts around 8 hours and projects well for the first few. Femme leaning unisex. I'm a dude and I love it.

June 24: My brand new bottle has a strong berry note on rose, with fruit candy and something not so nice. It is a mess and I'm sure it needs to rest for a couple weeks if not months. July 7: It's improving. Strong rose and currant/berry. Starting to get that camphor adjacent smell I sometimes detect in patchouly and oud. Still smells ordinary, but the off note is gone. Let's recheck in a month.

Sweet and fresh floral scent. A little dark with the oud, but is very wearable.
