The Chant

There is nothing groundbreaking about this perfume. Maison Alhambra The Chant is very clearly doing its best Gucci *A Chant for the Nymph* impression, and at first spray, I was not convinced. The opening is strong. Alcohol spritz. Blah. Slightly chaotic. Like someone thought they ordered a luxury summer cocktail, when actually, you could clean the bar with it. And then. AND THEN. Holy shit. It becomes heaven in a bottle. Once that sharp opening settles, The Chant turns into this soft, creamy, sun-warmed floral that smells far more expensive than it has any right to. White flowers, frangipani, tiare, ylang-ylang, and a little vanilla softness underneath, all floating around like someone rich just walked past you on holiday smelling effortless, expensive, and deeply unavailable. It is a summer’s kiss, but not sunscreen. Elegant, but not uptight. Feminine, but not basic. Pretty, but not stupid. A shaky first act. A stunning second act. Wrapped and presented in a beautiful bottle that completely defies its price tag, The Chant is one of those fragrances you have to let settle before you judge it. Suddenly, it is white florals, sun-warmed skin, an elegant cocktail in the Palm Beach sun, and a bottle that has absolutely no business feeling this good for the price. This one grows on you. Quietly. Annoyingly. Elegantly. For the price, this is genuinely one of the most beautiful things I’ve held in my hands. It smells like a flowing silk resort dress, warm sun-kissed skin after swimming in the infinity pool, and someone saying, “No, don’t worry, I booked the villa.” Is it original? No. Do I care? Also no. Because sometimes the dupe walks in, fixes its lipstick, and does the job beautifully. In Miranda Priestly terms, you think it’s just a blue sweater. But actually, it’s cerulean. That’s all ;-)

It's freezing cold and snowy outside, and wearing The Chant might seem counterintuitive, but I find it just perfect, an olfactory escape. Frangipani, take me awaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Seriously, though, I can't imagine why this pleasant fragrance in the exquisite bottle is so polarizing. Too strong? Easy fix: spray less, or just spray once and walk through. I would recommend this to people who love the original Gucci but can't justify the obscene price gouging, as well as to people who enjoy sweet, beachy, tropical, yellow-floral-forward frags such as Guerlain Terracotta and Patou Sira des Indes. One of my favorite aspects of The Chant is the woody drydown: I know there is more in the base than just plain vanilla. It's probably synthetic sandalwood or possibly ambroxan, but it tempers the tropical sweetness somewhat. I have owned this bottle for a couple of years now, I think, and have detected none of the signs of wear that other reviewers have noted. The bottle looks luxurious and high-quality, although I do keep it in its little protective pink bag inside the pretty pink box. This would look very nice on a dresser, but I like to keep the original packaging when it's as lovely as this. I don't know how Maison Alhambra does it--I'm sure I would prefer not to know, lolsob.

I purchased The Myth, The Serpent, and The Chant together because I smelled similar but more expensive perfumes and I wanted them all. When I found this line and saw the reviews I ordered three of the four in the collection. The other perfume in this group called The Trial has a cedar note and I don't need any more cedar at the moment. I love The Chant! I don't know what all of the notes listed above smell like isolated but this scent is just lovely! To me it smells like a floral that is very, very slightly woody, and a little creamy too. I do smell the vanilla. It smells rather unique to my nose. It is described as tropical floral which I agree with. I don't spray this heavily, just maybe two or three sprays. I think it performs quite good for a tropical floral. I would call this a unique exciting floral, maybe even an erotic floral! Anyway....five stars! —— I have returned a year later to add, I still love this fragrance, and I can confirm I enjoy this on spring evenings😁

This is such an intense sweet, creamy floral scent. It feels like you’re at a beach resort on a gorgeous island in the pacific. It screams high class and elegant. It also gives a more old fashioned vibe. It could either be that of a victorian princess or a pearl wearing high society lady from the 20s. I don’t think it has much of a modern appeal but if you’re going for something more unique and loud then this is for you. I’m a guy in my mid 20s and I absolutely love girls my age that choose floral scents like this because most choose warm sugary or bright fruity scents. I also think this could work very well as a layering with some type of tropical fruit scent such as pineapple or passionfruit.

I haven't smelt the OG of this fragrance dupe, but I love this! So beautiful and feminine. People complain negatively that it smells old lady ish but I think of it as more a retro smelling fragrance that's a staple classic. It actually gives me echo's of Casablanca Lilly from Byredo (which I own), just without the touch of plum in Casablanca, and I'm delighted as I haven't found any dupes for Casablanca yet and it's REALLY pricey. This is giving the same vibes. The dry down in this is exquisite. Way longer lasting than Casablanca and just sophisticated feminine hints of white and yellow flowers all the way. Apsolutely thrilled with this addition to my collection. 😍

I think this type of scent is timeless. It is not a scent that will feel like old school or dated after a couple of years and even more. Very feminine and floral with a touch of tropical summer vacations vibe. Very clean and bright. Amazing lasting power!!!I loved it from the start and I love it more and more every time I wear it. I don't know if it is a good dupe for the Gucci one because I have never smelled that. And honestly with those prices, I'm not interested. So,the Chant is a success for me.

The longer this sits, the better it becomes. Give it a chance to settle. At initial spray, there was a very sharp hit of florals, and it came across as dated. I kept going back to it, but I wasn't quite sure. Now, after about 6 months, it's a beautifully blended white and yellow floral, which is clean, creamy, and feminine. It reminds me of a luxury bar of soap. It has great projection and good longevity, and it will garner compliments.

Opulent pure floral, very heady and rich, dries down pretty demure after an hour or so but still VERY present. It's mega-intense; be cautious. Try spraying this on a towel or a t-shirt or something before you wrar it in public. It's SO floral you can like smell the pollen. It's lovely, but so super-intense performance-wise that I'd recommend one spray on each ankle if you don't want to overwhelm the general public

It's a no holds barred what you smell is what you get floral fragrance that is softened by a touch of smooth vanilla. Floral lovers will adore this, but modern users may find it a tad one-dimensional. Some competitors take a hybrid approach by adding notes such as spices and wood to liven up the formula (think along the lines of L'Interdit Rouge) which some might find more appealing, whereas others will appreciate the straightforward approach taken here. This is very powerful for a floral fragrance, and quite a strong performer. It may invoke positive nostalgic feelings with its modern take on an old-fashioned formula, or it may remind others of fragrances from a bygone era that their mothers or even grandmothers used. It might also lean too feminine for some male users. It'll definitely take confidence for a straight male user to wear this. This is great for Spring, Summer and Fall use. Presentation is very nice. Performance is quite strong. A very nice value if a straightforward floral fragrance is to your liking. Recommended.

This is a very intriguing fragrance, as it leads you to believe it will be a very floral fragrance similar to its sibling flanker The Chant only to turn on the woody, oud and incense notes as well as a balancing note of fresh musk. What results is a rather masculine take on a rose fragrance, one that may actually take female users by surprise. The rose note may come off as too faint for rose lovers, simply because the other notes are so strong. The musk is quite well utilized, so don't expect this to behave like musky colognes from eras past. This is best suited for older users who can wear this with confidence. It goes well in cooler weather and performance is decent. Presentation is beautiful. Recommended.

I am so agree with the previous author, this is way too much and will certainly cause a headache for someone who is prone to them. I have my old love Rochas Poupee, this is like its misbehaving great aunt. Passing through the spray cloud, The Chant is tolerable, even sophisticated. Oh how I love Poupee, such a shame it is no longer on the market.

This is a 1/1 dupe for A Chant for the Nymph, in case you're wondering. It's (together with Gucci's creation) one of those 'I like it, but it's not for me', BUT: if you like Gucci and would like a more affordable version, this is it.

This is a beautiful bottle. The fragrance is "enchanting"—perfect for bed. Light, summer, flowery, and very very pretty. That is straight out of the box. Super intense. It does die down, but still lingers intensely. Will revisit

So I decided to send this back and possibly revisit it later...It is pretty but it begins to get cloying and I begin t o feel like I just want to wash it off. So I'm not sure how to feel about this one

I was curious about this perfume, since I don't remember smelling frangipani before. So, I got this perfume a few days before and I sprayed it on my wrists, 2 sprays on each, because I thought that will need time to sit and it wouldn't be too strong. But I was soo wrong. In the opening is extremely sweet with a tad of bitter, and it doesn't tone down, those notes are there to stay, as the perfume gets more and more floral. If I didn't know this is frangipani, I would've thought it to be a combination of acacia and linden blossoms, but not the airy ones that you feel in the gentle breeze and makes you dreamy, no, it's like you are swimming in them. Gradually, the scent became heavier and heavier for my nose to the point I felt suffocated and very, very tired (unlike other scents that you can just ignore over time, this one is not giving up), and after three hours I started to feel nauseous and got a nasty headache. This is a beast fragrance. I scrubbed it of my wrists, because my headache became unbearable, and I could barely keep my eyes open, but 5 minutes later it was there like if I just sprayed it. Annoyed, I took a shower, changed my clothes again, and just went to bed. But surprise, next morning my whole room smelled like "The Chant" and it was still strongly clinging to my wrists. It was everywhere. I almost couldn't smell anything else but this for the rest of the second day. I can't even imagine how strong can this become after a few weeks or months, but I wouldn't dare use it in the summer or spring... unless I want to make people faint... and I along with them. Now, I really like this scent, but I just can't pull this off. It's just way too strong for me. This seems very mature to me, it's too intense, somehow familiar. I also get a tropical vibe from it, but not the typical one with beaches and fruits (I don't get any fruits in this), it's more of a subtle one that focuses mostly on lush florals, I don't get the vanilla either, and it's slightly powdery to my nose. Overall, it's a very good perfume, especially if you look for something beast mode that lasts for days.

It smells a bit dated at first but the more I smell it the more I like it. It is a bit of a sharper floral that has a hint of creaminess. I get ylang ylang. The vanilla is basically nonexistent. This isn’t a sweet fragrance at all. It projects like a beast but only lasts about 2 hrs. I’m hoping that in a couple months it will improve in performance and be smoother! Update: it’s been about a month and the florals have only gotten sharper and no improvement in lasting power. I’ll continue letting it sit but I would never repurchase. This is the worst performing fragrance I own and that includes body sprays. Update: It’s been another couple weeks and it switched up practically overnight. Got smoother (not a lot but enough that it’s noticeable) I can’t use more than one spray bc it starts off so strong. It lasts about 3 hrs with beast projection and another 2.5 as a skin scent. Still not great but a lot better than it was!

A heady floral scent with powerful notes of frangipani and ylang-ylang. Too bad it doesn't have much staying power It's been about two weeks. The piercing ylang-ylang scent has calmed down a bit, and I can finally smell plumeria flowers instead. The scent lasts much longer than when I first bought it. However, it's a shame that it's gotten so much cooler in Japan now that I can't enjoy this tropical scent anymore. Layering this with Dior's J"adore L"Or is a true paradise. If you have both, give it a try.

Despite loving all of the flowers in this - frangipani is my favourite flower - this one was completely overwhelming. I also thought it smelled more like lilacs and hyacinths and a bunch of other flowers were in there which completely overpowered the fragrance although none are listed. It felt less tropical floral and more like I was a worker bee flung into some Botanic Garden full of every imaginable highly scented flower and told to go ham by the Queen. It gave me a headache and a slight gag and it takes a lot for a fragrance to do that to me. Sadly I put it in the Charity Bag after even attempts to use it as a room freshener made me me feel a bit ill. Beautiful bottle. Can't compare to the OG as haven't tried it. Paulina Schar recommended this. One of the few times I haven't enjoyed something she has praised. I got Jimmy Choo's Rose Passion as a much lighter and non-suffocating tropical frangipani and I will stick with that.

This smells like a nauseatingly thick fatty vanilla smoothie made with flowers. I haven’t smelled the original but this is a fascinating scent bursting with creamy florals. I can see some people loving this, but for me, it was waaay overdone. Just too much of a good thing. One spray will last into the next day and fill every space you go, which could be offensive to others who may not enjoy the scent. I feel like it could’ve benefited from a fruity note, like pineapple, lemon or melon to balance it better. It may work better when layered with a fresh scent. I would only use this very sparingly in open air in a tropical setting. It could be absolutely beautiful, it just went over the top. I wouldn’t repurchase.

It's a true floral essence (and a different kind of floral). I haven't smelled the original, but this one has an amazing scent of creamy flowers, with a tropical vive. I know a lot of people love it, but I find it too intense (I even get a pungent note) and I think it could be offensive to those who don't enjoy the scent. its has a very strong proyection, and last so long. I think a fruity note would have been nice to balance it, i think is too flowery. I would only use it outsite. It's not for me, although I do see that it's very high quality, it's feminine, and it has a clean vive. But I find it too intense, its not my kind of essence.

BIG synthetic yellow floral fragrance. I want to keep trying with this one because I do enjoy beachy scents, but I don't think this is it. It seems that the opening is very strong and almost green, like fresh flower stems. It quickly dissipates and is not nearly as strong as the opening; however, there is a synthetic burnt plastic undertone that I can't ignore. I only notice this quality when I smell it close to my nose, and not in the air around me. It's just something I can't get past.

This dupe is all ylang ylang, nothing else, I even let it macerate, the pink on the bottle is painted on and is peeling off, very disappointed.

@Bronstet I don't see the point why you added a review for the Myth as well on this page. BTW The Chant has NOTHING to do with L'Interdit Rouge. It opens with a punch as it has enormous sillage for the first minutes. You might want to spray lightly just to be on the safe side. Intensely floral, creamy and sweet in the same time, it is different from the usual fair. I don't know how sour sunscreen smells like but this scent deserves better comments :) It is long lasting on my skin and clothes. I has a slight plasticky undertone after about 30 minutes, but it goes away. I will let it mature and see how it develops. Gorgeous presentation also, heavy luxurious bottle in a silky stringed pouch, nested in an elegant box. For a little over 20 euro, it's really worth it.

The opening has a slight sweetness, with a slight bitterness, and a hint of sunscreen, but as the fragrance evolves, it becomes increasingly floral, powdery, and creamy. It's a mature, sensual scent for older women who like the scent of 80s perfumes. It has long-lasting projection and longevity. A vibrant floral scent with a touch of sunshine.

I do not like this. It smells like a sour sunscreen with farts of florals. I won't accept the Cheriosa 87/Rio Radiance comparison, because to me this smells way worse and heavy. The Alchemists Garden collection does this weird thing where it leads with clear musk, then the other notes develop in the dry down. I got musk, sour sunscreen, and Ylang Ylang. Dumb blind buy boooooooo
