The Myth

A slightly dusty, potpourri-ish rose (on the order of Portrait of a Lady or that Byredo Rose or No Man's Land or whatever it's called) over an assertive woody base and slightly laundrylike white musk. Scentwise, it's vaguely reminiscent of Paris-Paris by Chanel and Idôle L'Intense. The packaging could not be prettier. I also love the bottle for related Gucci dupe Chant for the Nymph. These are great alternatives to the appealing but wildly overpriced Gucci OGs. I think the people who dislike this must have an issue with the woodsy notes, which have a slight "pencil shavings" vibe, although that's a positive association for me. I just adore Maison Alhambra/Lattafa. As it dries down, it also really reminds me of Caswell Massey's vintage throwback Marem. Update, three days later: I'm upgrading the longevity on this because on fabric it is eternal. I sprayed some unbleached muslin with a bit of The Myth three days ago, when I first logged this review, and I can still smell all the main notes. On fabric, especially hours into the drydown, I simply do not think it would be possible to distinguish this from the other, more expensive perfumes that it references. Clean, woody, faintly spicy, with a slightly nostalgic mien. Update: 9/22/2025: There is something about this that reminds me of being in my Estee-Lauder-loving great-aunt's scrupulously clean, antique-filled house in the 70s and 80s. There is also something vaguely reminiscent of old church pew wood with incense. I like it, but it's not a huge projector, and I don't think to wear it very often because I'm not always in the mood to conjure complex and ambivalent memories, or to smell like some middle-aged good southern Baptist lady's immaculate guest bedroom. I would love to get my nose on the wildly overpriced Gucci original to compare/contrast, but I don't think that will happen. My guess, though, is that the Gucci original (A Song for the Rose) contains many more notes than the three listed, and some of these notes overlap with the ones listed in The Myth. I consider this very unisex, although I don't think my husband would wear it.

I have three from this 'inspired by' collection, The Myth, The Chant, and the Serpent. I don't have any of the expensive ones this is based on, but I have smelled them and I love them and so I ordered these cheaper versions so I could have the scent profiles in my collection. I can't really compare them directly, I plan to go smell them all again at the Gucci boutique at some point, maybe buy the real thing if I come into some cash! I love rose scents. I don't think it smells cheap. It has a nice incense-y rose-y smell. It lasts a long time for a cheapy. To gauge my enthusiasm, my collection has less than 20 full size bottles, and I have just ordered a back up bottle/gifting bottle of this cause I love it that much! Post Edit: I have returned and made some edits to this review. ----So I do think the first few minutes smell a bit crazy, and maybe a bit synthetic...but I still love it. If I compare it to other rose scents I would stick with my initial impression, this is kind of an incense rose, woody notes are listed, but not oud and it's not a rose oud. It is not a fresh rose, not a dewy rose, not a waxy rose. I still can't really speak on how close it smells to the Gucci. I do know The Chant smells a lot like the Gucci, but I am still not sure about this one, I plan to sniff it again.

Dry, spicy, musky rose with minimal sweetness. My decant and bottle differ slightly. The decant opens with more apparent tangy bergamot and peppery spice while these notes emerge later in the bottle's development, but they both eventually come around to an appealing dusty aromatic musk. MFK l'Homme à la Rose handles musky rose in a similar way, but without the spice and tang. The expensive Gucci original is richer and more dimensional, unsurprisingly, but The Myth is much improved by layering a dab of a strong dark rose (Montale Roses Musk, TF Noir de Noir). A great value if you like the fragrance profile, and definitely a best buy at under $20 USD.

This is a strong, prominent Bulgarian rose note that settles into a woody, musky base with hints of cinnamon. The floral notes are fresh and photorealistic, a good attempt in its reimagination of Gucci A Song for the Rose. I'm a dude that likes rocking rose scents so let me tell you it ain't no grandma rose. It comes off feeling plenty masculine with the spices and woods, never particularly sweet.

First impression, I thought it smelled masculine from the nozzle and told my husband he most likely will be getting this. I got a cedar or pine note in there. However, I sprayed it on paper and it’s completely different! It is a deep sultry dry rose musk. It reminds me a bit of a dozen roses that have been in the vase past their prime 🥀 and a bit sad looking. It’s a moody beauty. I’m sure it will change, the Chant made a complete transformation over time! So I will update in a few months!

Other sites have different notes listed for this. Some have iris, mimosa, oud, amber, and violet. Does not last long, at least on my skin. Starts off bright and fresh with what I assume could be the mimosa and rose. Very slight hint of woods. Safe for everyday wear and office use. Probably won't get heavy use from me. Nothing to terrible but, this is not one of my favorites.

This one doesn't really smell like A Song for the Rose at all, which has more of a natural rose smell with some fruitiness to it. This one just smells like some rose fabric conditioner.

I get the rose opening but it never gives good rose. Something is ruining it for me. I dont know enough to say really but I'd swear that's oud or violet in there. I can't wear it outside. People would think im crazy. Ive had it 4 months now. Maybe I'll try again. Keeping because at least it's pretty.🤣

It's a cheap imitation with a terrible smell. Buy the real thing! And if you can't afford it, buy a cheaper but good designer fragrance, that's it!

Just bought all 4 of this collection and they are all stunners. This one opens up quite flowery, also a bit of pepper and as someone lower in these reviews mentions that on other platforms the notes of iris, mimosa, oud, amber and violet are in this creation and that's what I get too, a flowery opening, like mimosa ; there is also a freshness in the beginning that I can not pin point for the moment. There is for sure incense in it too. There are of course more than 3 notes in this perfume and if there is rose in it, it is very well blended with all the other flower notes. It's a very peculiar perfume, don't think it will be liked by many as it is not a crowd pleasing one. Will give more details of the evolution and longevity later on . I'm surprised this scent doesn't have more reviews. For those who don't know, this is a dupe of Gucci's A Song for the Rose. I cannot find an official listing of the notes for The Myth, but for the original, Gucci lists bulgarian rose, sweet musks, and strong woods. In Myth, I get something dry, herbal, and aromatic. It's a little reminiscent of dried sage, or palo santo--it smells like some kind of vegetation that belongs in the desert. I don't actually think that I could have identified this as rose without being told. I think that this is a beautiful scent, and smells far more refined than its price tag. It's fresh, it's gender neutral, it's appropriate for all seasons. The presentation is quite lovely, with a heavy, substantial glass bottle, packaged in a drawstring bag within the box. I'm tempted to buy every Maison Alhambra dupe of the Gucci Alchemist's Garden series for the presentation alone. Giving this one a 8/10. Editing to add: I just got a sample of D.S. & Durga Cowboy Grass, and I have to say, these two have a striking similarity. Certainly not dupes, but cousins, maybe. Myth is a little sweeter, and Cowboy Grass is a little deeper, dries down to a very dry vetiver. Both are dry and aromatic herb scents.

Update: thought It needed maceration or was a style of perfume but now that I've smelt more perfumes this one is so weird because it is screechy and harsh like it isnt meant to be a perfume or it wasnt finished. It smells too alcohol fluid-like with mixed in fragrance chemicals. Evening Twilight from Fragrance World has the same issue but its more bearable. This smells so cheap I will probably be decluttering it now that I've curated my collection better. ‐‐-----‐------‐-------------------------------------- A cross between Laliques 'Encre Noire' and Fragrance Worlds 'A Haunting Blend'. Smells like spilled ink and dusty dried rose petals. This fragrance is very dark and gloomy, more so then FW AHB. If you like Encre Noir from Lalique but want a more gloomy romantic feminine fragrance, This is the one for you. The old dusty rose addition makes this a must have for a goth girls collection. I seem to have an issue with my olfactories when reading the wood in these types of fragrances because I just get literal ink smell which doesnt seem like a thing many others pick up on. Weirdly i can also actually taste it in my mouth from this particular frag and I only sprayed it on one arm and rubbed my other arm on it.

The scent: very dry and not sweet at all(in a good way). I am over sticky sweet gourmands and this is perfect. I smell nonsweet, dry incense, a touch of smoke, although it isn't in the notes. Think dragonsblood. Strong, dry, peppery wood and dried dusty rose petals. I don't really smell the musk. I feel like although this is strong, there's an airiness or atmosphere that keeps it from being choking. Altogether, the scent strikes me as gothic and makes me think of an old dusty Victorian house, full of wood furniture. Dried roses are still in vases, incense is left on a table abandoned mid-seance. Tattered curtains blow from broken windows, letting in the forest air and smoke from the Halloween bonfires in the distance. This is unisex to me. It is strong and lasts forever, especially on clothing. Fall night time. I don't think this smells like L'Homme a la Rose. That is an ambroxan bomb and this is not
