Absinthe Boréale

I bought a sample of this perfume a few months ago, and it is the only perfume I have ever purchased a full bottle of after buying a sample online. It is a sweet, aromatic/herbal fragrance. It definitely lasts longer on my clothes than on my skin. It is very light, has virtually no sillage, and is more of a skin fragrance. The eucalyptus and lavender aren't overpowering, nor is it reminiscent of some aromatherapy line from Bath & Body Works. I find it to be well-blended, so it's actually hard to pick out the individual notes (at least for me). The artemisia lends a sweetness to this fragrance, rather than a bitterness, and the scent overall is cool but not sharp. I love this perfume for the wintertime, and I almost exclusively wear it when it's snowing. I got a sample because the house's description of the fragrance is exactly what I was looking for, and I was not disappointed. I feel like a snow fairy when I wear this perfume. Because it is so aromatic, some people may get a "cleaning product" vibe rather than a refreshing winter wind. I find it to be more feminine, but I think men could also wear this fragrance.

This fragrance is layered so well you cannot pick out any individual fragrance notes. But that's a good thing! Especially when there is lavender. It's extremely difficult when you have lavender in a composition and not having it take over the entire thing. I think this is a beautiful fragrance! One of my favorites from the entire house, if not my absolute favorite. There is something about this one that is almost romantic. It is very light and very ethereal. I think of the absinthe fairy whenever I smell of this. She is said to lure you in with her hypnotic and sensual elegance. And she absorbs you into her world of hallucination. This is exactly how I feel when I wear this fragrance. Sorcery is the word that keeps intruding in mind. All of a sudden it just hits you. It is like a kiss has been blown your way and you feel it gently grazing your skin as it passes by in the wind.

Today is April 6, 2023. This is my third or fourth sample spray of this fragrance. I love it even more tonight than I did the first time. Now that it is spring, this fragrance profile is even more beautiful. I have to purchase it. I don't know why I haven't already. Lavender is listed as one of the main notes; however, it is not something you smell and distinctly imagine in your mind. It does not speak loudly and is probably created as a backbone to the artemisia. I bring this up because I love lavender in fragrances, and even though it is subtle, it is still used in a very intriguing and attractive way. It is soft while still maintaining crispness. Gentle without feeling like it has been weakened or watered down. Overall, Absinthe Boréale is angelic. The fragrance is superbly balanced and has been blended by a true professional.

This is crushed crystal under the aurora borealis. It's so beautiful. I don't know why it has taken me three years to purchase it. Once it sits on your skin for about a half an hour it starts to turn sweet and it really develops into something unique. It's a quiet December winter with snow solemnly falling under a cold night sky onto the ground. I do want to mention I am a huge fan of aromatic fragrances, so I may be partially biased. If you are also a fan of aromatic notes I don't think you can go wrong here. The only demerit, yes there is one, is the longevity. For $260 I want the fragrance to last. 10 hours maybe 12. Unfortunately that's not the case. That's probably why I have not purchased it quite yet. It's a bit expensive, but at this point, it is too beautiful to not add to my collection.

A wonderful concatenation of gin (juniper), lavender, green herbs, on an elegant mossy base. It's the smell of an expensive gin cocktail, bedecked with mint, herbs, and just the right amount of absinthe, giving the composition body, character, and sophistication. To paint a clearer picture, the scent itself sits in between Frapin's L'Humaniste and Chanel's Edimburg, only Absinthe Boreale is not sweet and creamy (L'Humaniste), nor sharp, cold, and stoic (Edimburg). Its minty facets make it extremely wearable during spring and summer, while its cool Boreale impression and fougere characteristics make it an exceptional option for the colder months. Overall, it's a very natural, calm and relaxing scent I don't want to be without.

This is gorgeous! A scent leaning over to the more Cologne side of things compared to the other one I tried which was Lys Sølaberg. It’s very herbal with a heavy feeling that I describe as being generic in male fragrances. But don’t fret! Lavender shows itself beautifully and in such a way that my friend who hates Lavender, commented that it gives it such a beautiful feel. Becoming less generic with the Musk, Eucalyptus, Artemisia and slightly minty facet, it creates such a beautifully green scent with a sweet and herbal side to it that attracts me.

To me it’s a fresh mix between a barbershop and a spa resort. It’s fresh enough for the office, and interesting enough for going out too. Moderate longevity and for me really decent projection. I had a 2ml sample so I just busted it all in one day, kept respraying, but I loved how it smelled even in the humid summer, so I think it smells good enough and is versatile enough for me to get a FB. This is an expensive but underrated scent. I recommend it.

Smells like an expensive and bright gin cocktail in the best way possible. Juniper and herbs. Unisex but leaning slightly masculine. I don’t get the absinthe (my nose was prepared for an anise scent that never arrived), but I do get the boreal (and I live in the boreal). My sample set purchase gave me a voucher of the value toward a full bottle. This is the first I tried on on my skin after sniffing on paper and it’s already a serious contender.

What a remarkable light, warm weather fragrance. Absinthe Boréale by Maison Crivelli delivers a subtle, complex, yet light fragrance that is absolutely perfect for absolutely anyone on a warm day. A herbal delight that is not dominated by any specific note. An absolute melody of light green and florals that plays on you like an orchestra. Completely surprising and totally unforgettable. I am stunned by how good Absinthe Boréale is.

Love at first sniff. Every other breath I think: "What smells so good?" It's me in Absinthe Borealis. So happy with this purchase. I wore it at October holidays to see Wicked with my daughter - leaning into the green of Borealis and Elfaba. So fun. Of course I sipped a gin and tonic at intermission. Today I will wear this to put up my real Christmas tree. As a woman, this is a winter green scent that I love.

I love it. Upon first spray it’s green with that slight alcohol (I’m assuming this is the absinthe inspiration) hint that makes you think oooh what is that. The dry down is where it shines. Perfectly blended lavender with a touch of citrus and mint. It honestly reminds me of a men’s deodorant that I can’t remember. Ultra unisex. 10/10! EDIT : I narrowed it down to it smells like men’s Vaseline lotion

I absolutely love this fragrance. This makes me think of being in a luxurious spa, with them using essential oil aromatherapy. I relax the moment I smell this. 10/10. I don't smell absinthe at all, thankfully. And forest... We'll, maybe if there's a spa in the middle of the forest. Either way, it's a love! Very unisex, I'm a woman who loves this, but it would work just as well on a man.

I'm liking this from first sniff trying the vial from the discovery set. Nice mugwort with lavender. The sweetness is just nice. This is a comforting and Aromatherapy like scent with the various notes all pointing to it being not a loud bold scent. Seems great to wear.

Frosty green. The main player here is artemisia, and it feels like having an early morning walk in northern Spain's countryside, but without the woody factor, just herbs and some liquorish vibes. Clean and crisp, on the lighter side, but a winner for me.

This is so refreshing. It’s fresh, airy, and unisex.

This is one of very few fresh fragrances that I would consider purchasing again. I’m not one for fresh or citrus heavy fragrances as they are just not compatible with my skin chemistry. They don’t last at all. However, this is less in the citrus realm and more on the fragrant automatic spices leaves and herbs realm. Which so far is working on my skin. It’s unlike anything I’ve smell before and I can’t really compare it. The lavender in the dry down is quite prominent. The base note is heavy with a strange shampoo like smell adjacent to fairy liquid. Wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, however I very quickly came to like it. Perfect to wear before bed, especially if you have a shower before sleeping like I do and I guess it makes sense for a pre-bedtime routine fragrance to wear as there’s lavender and soap in there, especially as lavender is associated with helping one sleep and winding down like lavender tea or lavender body cream. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it as a blind buy it needs to be sampled. And I don’t think it’s a casual sent either. For me anyway I feel like it needs to have a specific time of day or night and specific season for me to want to wear it. It’s still great and like I said I’m not really one for opting in for fresh earthy herbal and citrus heavy fragrances. I’m more into resin Amber leather Woody and oud heavy fragrances particularly as they suit my skin type and my body chemistry and therefore last a lot longer.

Make this an extrait de parfum and I'd literally go feral for it, Love this scent profile. It initially reminded me of Gucci Guilty Cologne, but when smelled side by side, they're completely different fragrances that just so happen to share some ingredients. This is absolutely a love it or hate it kind of fragrance, so if you aren't positive that you love the notes, test first. It's also quite overpriced. I'd pay retail for an extrait of this...but in it's current formulation, I'm a little bitter about the price. For now I'm going to try just laying it on real thick and hope that with age it gets a bit stronger. Also, no pressurized atomizer at this price point? Come on, this is the exact kind of fragrance that would benefit from one. It's kind of a bold choice for the summer, but it is a fresh aromatic, so I get it. Personally I think it's better suited to the spring/fall time of year, but honestly you could wear this year round. Maison Crivelli made a highly addictive fragrance with this one, but it's far from perfect and the asking price is (at least at retail) kind of insulting. If it was stronger or the price was better, I'd give full marks. But as is, even though I love the scent, I can only bring myself to give it 4/5. I expect fragrances at a certain price point to excel in every category, as well as be expertly well crafted.

Absinthe Boréale is a lightweight, fresh fougère, led by an aromatic lavender note and rounded out by herbal greenness. It is also quite underwhelming - I expected a bitter, green herbal witchy scent, but instead it is a barely-there, sheer freshie. Still, the composition manages to be interesting. AB opens with a prominent lavender note, surrounded by some green, herbal notes that fade quickly. There is a camphorous, minty quality up top, but it is surprisingly subdued. There is a sheer, dewy greenness throughout, softened increasingly by clean white musk as it progresses. Some soft, sweet spice alongside the green notes hints at its name, but it is a very subtle scent overall. There is a smooth, sweet amber base that becomes evident during the later stages, but it remains a sheer, subtle scent overall. The drydown is sweetly musky with lingering spices - the best phase of this scent. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. It features a traditionally masculine composition, but is unisex in my opinion, given how light and fresh it is. It is best worn on warm days. AB is a nicely-composed, subtle fougère with points of interest - you just have to pay close attention. Too subtle for my liking (and for its price point), but a decent scent overall. 2.5/5.

One spray and I’m immediately in my in laws house. Herbs, citrus, cleaning products, wood, the smell of washing your hands with a strongly scented soap at a stainless steel sink. I even get a hint of the spot cleaning spray used for pet stains. This is a strange one. Without this association, my mind would probably go to men's body wash. After this opening which lasts for a while, I get a creamy musky scent. It's mostly creamy and reminds me of the base in Bvlgari au The Blanc, Elizabeth Arden White Tea, and even a bit like Juicy Couture Oui Splash. By that I mean, there's a creamy white musk with an ambrox-like backing. Not sure if that's what it actually is made of, but once you smell this base, you smell it in many fragrances. Can't complain! I love this base and it totally saves the fragrance from being awful. It's the only aspect I enjoy.

Have a big appreciation for this fragrance, although for me (as a female) this is not my style of fragrance to wear. I would, nevertheless, absolutely appreciate it on a man as a fun casual spring-summer scent. It is not boring, it is wearable, it smells modern and beautifully done. Green, at times slightly vegetal, but surprisingly I also get an airy sweet base underneath. Not sticky nor cloying. Just a twist on an otherwise green scent. Herbs play together very well here. I get a note of absinthe (herbal and a little syrupy), lavender is present, so is juniper and/or thyme. At different times different herbs pop up and then recede. It is a beautiful scent and also has an uplifting quality.

I took a sample with me on my holiday to Morocco. Usually, I am not keen on aromatic fresh fragrances that lack sweetness, this however is quite refreshing albeit herby. I do get that fizzy/effervescent sensation of a cool drink as per inspiration. It is quite strong for a fresh EDP of its kind. It definitely felt right for the weather then but not so sure if I want to wear it during the cooler weather here in the UK. After an hour or so I usually notice it develops into something a little bit more sour-y im uncertain as to what that is or why that is but I prefer the beginning. Will cherish the memories.

Just bought a sample and I'm really 'comfortable' in this. If I could find a (much) cheaper dupe I would probably wear it daily in summer with regular touch ups, as this is very refreshing and clean feeling on drydown. To me it evokes the hot towels they sometimes give you on planes - but also a little like a bathroom cleaning product, quite reminiscent of CK Be (with similar poor staying power). I think my search for the perfect absinthe fragrance will go on, as to me this is mainly lavender/eucalyptus and smells more like shower gel than perfume. For me the base notes are also more bitter than creamy.

If you really want a scent that reads like the promotional material put out by maison crivelli, look no further than Gucci Guilty PH Cologne. It's more absinthe boreale than absinth boreale is. That scent has actual greeness supported by powdery violet sweetness instead of the milky creamy mush that throws this perfume off from its goal. That scent truly does feel like neon-green liquor on ice, this feels like milk with mint.

Really pleasant, such a nice cooling sensation with green notes that do not give you a headache. Some very welcome creamy light sweetness is present too (almost vanilla-like?), more than I was expecting. A green scent without much bite, might get a 30ml if this grows on me.

strong citrus to medicinal opening, before developing a soft lavender fuzz around the edges and a general pleasant green quality. given time, on my skin, it develops a honeyed undertone - it's lovely, but pretty mismatched with its namesake

- Smells refreshing, green, and aromatic. Slight barbershop vibes which makes the fragrance lean masculine and brings the fragrance from love to like for me. Currently, The Nuptial Bouquet fills my need for fresh green summer fragrance.

I think it's designed as a perfume for men but I really love it. Fresh, green and spicy. I have never had absinth so I have no idea what it should taste or smell like, but I like the herbs and spices hanging around.

This is such a unique and mature take on lavender. Very complex and androgynous. It's fresh and sits close to the skin. It's much lighter than other lavender perfumes, very fresh and perfect for spring.

Calming, cooling and softly herbal, artemisia is well reined in. Immediately I thought of Zoologist Cow, for which Feisthauer is also the perfumer, the herbals are handled so gently in both.

all im getting is eucalyptus and a little gin, which is amazing, but absolutely not for the price. performance is so so. there has got to be better for cheaper out there

Strange green herbal scent with hints of a comforting resinous musk. I like it. Comes together on the drydown real nice. Drydown is where this really shines.

the dry down has the same Juniper Berries note as Penguin by Zoologist. They are pretty similar in my opinion but this is less woody

Green juicy but floral well balanced fragrance. Someone said it's good for the office - yes! But it has a green zing to it.

Safe, versatile, more for man. For sure, you need to like aromatic fragrance with lavender. Clean, it is a type of cologne.

Absinthe Boréale really does what it promises: it smells like absinthe. You get that herbal, slightly floral, slightly alcoholic note you’d expect in a gin-based drink, paired with a crisp citrus lift, which unfortunately pushes it into “gin and tonic... but perfume form.” It’s interesting and refreshing in concept, but also a bit confusing because who actually wants to smell like they’ve been mixing cocktails? The citrus + herbal combo leans dangerously close to dishwashing soap, like someone just washed a gin glass and left a bit of the bubbles behind. Not terrible, but definitely not “you must buy this now” levels of impressive. The biggest letdown is the longevity; it’s airy, fleeting, and disappears almost before you process all the notes. Yes, that makes it perfect for outdoor activities in hot weather, because there’s zero chance of it ever becoming cloying (there’s nothing left on your skin long enough to be cloying). But for the price, the performance feels way too lightweight. Honestly, it gives “rich people who spray niche perfumes casually before golfing and don’t care if it lasts.” Interesting idea, beautiful brand concept, but this one just didn’t deliver enough presence or depth for the price tag.

Honestly, kind of a letdown. When I initially apply it, I get the juniper, eucalyptus, and mint, which I find more evocative of gin than absinthe. It's definitely missing the wormwood note (even though its listed on the accords), which is pretty disappointing, since the combination of juniper and wormwood is exactly what gives absinthe its distinct flavor. I'm incredibly disappointed by the complete lack of lavender, too; without it, I find this perfume to be too masculine for my tastes. I don't see the point of listing all of these green notes like fern and resin in the base if it's just going to smell like cheap public restroom soap. Maybe it's the combination of musk and lemon, or maybe the mint? I'm not sure, but in the way that doctor's office bathroom soap is neither pleasant nor unpleasant, so is the drydown for this. It doesn't make me cringe, but the thought of forking up the cash to buy a full bottle of this sure does.

I have the sample set from this house. Like this one well enough to blast through the sample but part of using it up fast is that it disappears on me pretty quickly. It does have a very nice combination of sweetness and freshness that is a bit rare. The notes seem well blended. Easygoing everyday type of scent for all genders and ages I’d say. I don’t find this soapy as others do but I will agree that the lavender does not overpower the scent. I would not buy mainly because of the longevity/sillage issues.

I really did not expect to like this one, based on the notes. Thankfully, the absinthe note is just a whisper, leaving the other aromatic notes and lavender to run the show. Interesting, considering the perfume name. I see this as perfectly unisex, in the same vein as Orpheon or Pacific Rock Moss. I think it might be full (smaller) bottle worthy, to join Rose Saltifolia.

Disappointing! I love a good botanical gin note, so the opening to this one had me hooked, only for it to completely fade away in less than half an hour, leaving me with the scent of a recently cleaned restaurant bathroom. I don't mind topping up a fragrance with poor longevity if a good top note warrants it, but for this one it's futile. Needs a reformulation.

Opens in a way that is actually quite a hit reminiscent of Abercrombie's Fierce. Not identical, but definitely a 'cousin'. You might say "dry, clean, and green". A little bit soapy. Not bad, but frankly, Fierce is MUCH better. I would call this a neutral...not really doing it for me.

Unfortunately to an Australian, the first burst is all Aeroguard. There's so much promise and hints of something really special, but the bug spray prevails. Such a shame but I think those in other parts of the world won't make the association.

This is a classic men’s lavender fougère with a hint of absinthe. The absinthe gives a small niche touch to a classic formula. Cool, comfortable if you like barbershop scents. Really nice in a hot weather. Longevity around 4-5 hours.

Not my favorite Maison Crivelli. Smells more like a fancy hand soap you’d be pleasantly surprised by at a nice restaurant than a high quality niche fragrance. Note sold on the lavender/absinthe combo.

To keep is short - it’s starts interesting with a sparkling absinthe but quickly turns into juniper-lavender cloud, which reminds a lot of Angel Schlesser Femme

Fairly generic lemon/lavender/herbs cologne. Not very strong at first; grew stronger and more and more CK1-like over time.
