Lys Sølaberg

This is lovely. It smells exactly like my grandmother's tweed coat and hat, and the way the coat cupboard smelled at her apartment. Obviously this is a world away from the memory the brand is trying to evoke, but I actually find that aspect of the range (the fact it's the owner's memory the parfumers are asked to capture, so they can be shared with customers) a little restrictive on the wearer's imagination. On me, this is predominantly an iris and gentle rice fragrance. There is a burst of the Baccarat Rouge cloud only in the first spray, but on my skin that disappears in seconds leaving something soft and poetic that isn't unlike a very transparent Armani Prive Cuir Amethyst or Floral Street's Iris Goddess (with which it shares many notes). There's a touch of warm clean hair and freshly ironed cotton. The base notes must be incredibly well-blended as it doesn't seem like an overly busy fragrance at all, nor particularly heavy. I get little of the gaiac wood and no smoke at all. I think this is a bookish fragrance - fit for reading in old libraries. It's cerebral.

Oh.My.Goodness. This is so beautiful and hypnotic! I absolutely love this one because all the notes described are blended so well that all I smell is this delicious liquid. To me, it evokes a golden potion in the most exquisite crystal glass. From the liquid emanates the most tantalizing wisps inviting me to drink from it... It is fruity, smoky, woodsy, leathery and amber-y all at once! What kind of witchcraft is this? Nathalie Feisthauer has concocted the most delicious ambrosia and I am ready to succumb... Longevity: 7-8 hours Projection/Sillage: an arm’s length Price: $260 USD and it’s worth it!! Season: personally, it’s more of an Autumn/Winter and cold weather or on a cold rainy day kind of scent. Just my personal preference. Absolutely wonderful fragrance. Leaning slightly towards the masculine side and it is soooooo beautiful!! Full bottle, I am coming for you!! I don’t care that I am a woman, this was made for me 😝😍😍

I think this is feminine to some and masculine to others depending on what notes are more prominent due to body chemistry. This smells mostly fruity sweet on me and soft woody in the dry down, while on my partner the smoky and tobacco notes stand out more. Definitely try this on skin first. I get mostly candied quince in the opening, quite realistic quince note which I really like. I smell some iris, but lily is barely there to my nose. If you are looking for a lily centered fragrance, this isn’t it. Dry down is mostly woody, tobacco is there but faint, and the sweetness lingers. Autumnal scent to me because of the quince. Longevity is about 4 hrs, sillage is modest but suited to the scent profile. Casual, comfort fragrance. Quite unique, I haven’t come across many others like it. Happy to have a bottle !

How are people listing this as a fall scent??? Now I am truly shocked because it is nothing I expected. The first spray of the perfume is FRESH. You don't really smell the notes listed. It smells like a tart, but fresh fruit scent. But you cannot really smell any specific fruit. I think it could be unisex since I have smelled very similar men's colognes with the same sweetness. The drydown is a bit musky, a bit powdery but the sweetness remains. Now it is NOT very sweet - the sweetness is natural, like the one from a fruit. But the overall impression of the scent is that it is quite airy, it is not heavy, it is easy to wear. Don't be afraid by the notes because it is very wearable and likeable, especially for the upcoming warmer months!

I got a sample of Lys Sølaberg a few years ago. Reading the copytext about what this scent was supposed to be associated with, it was absoluetly on point to me. Fresh air, a lily in the midnight sun in a fjord, moist ground, green grass, a stone bridge and candied quince. I got the idea, I loved the idea but in most settings it had something weird to it (imagine wearing this in office in autumn). Not to dislike, definitely lovely but kinda out of place. Until I went on a three weeks road trip through Iceland this summer. It was just most perfect, spot on. I couldn't get enough of it there and enjoyed it nowhere as much as under the midnight sun in an Icelandic fjord, hiking through the beautiful magical landscape...

This is one of those scents I find it difficult to be objective about because it reminds me so much of a memory. Still, I really love it and think there's something expensive, aromatic, and slightly spicy about it while still feeling approachable and feeling comforting rather than overwhelming. It is certainly ambroxan-heavy, so if you're not a fan you'll want to steer clear of this one. This is also one of the better performers of the line I've tried--I got around 3 hours of a true scent bubble before it settled down, and probably lasted around 10 hours overall on my skin. I don't quite understand the comparisons to BR540... at least on my skin they were very different, but who knows!

This oozes sophistication. Yes it does contain ambroxan - the synthetic woody/musky note that some don't like, but this is paired with a deep floral/woody booziness that feels rich and complex. I find it suitable for evening events - and there are very few perfumes I find ideal for those scenarios because I want elegance, sensuality and complexity for such a perfume, which is difficult to find. My partner enjoys this. It has darkness and freshness at the same time, sweet and bitter elements too. In that sense it reminds me of MFK's Lumiere Noire pour Femme. Sensual, rich and distinct, also it's in a beautiful heavy glass bottle with magnetised cap - all adding to the experience!

In my opinion, this is probably the 2nd best fragrance from Maison Crivelli behind Iris Malakhan. I have the discovery set and I really do enjoy the 8 that came with it. There were a few that are maybe a tad bit too feminine for my liking, but most were really good with great quality. I find the drydown of Lys Soelaberg to be the wheel house of this fragrance. Even though the opening is a bit citrusy, it transitions into a unique warm/smoky/patchouli with a pinch of spice in there that is very addicting. I don't know, this one may be tied with Iris Malakhan as my favorite from the house.

It's amusing how diverse the opinions are among the reviewers here regarding this fragrance. Lys Sølaberg strikes me as distinctly feminine, and despite having owned and worn it for two years, I still find it challenging to put into words. The scent is a complex blend, characterized by prominent notes of dried fruit, hints of ambroxan, carrot seed, and a smoky undertone. This one is intriguing. It opens with a very sour note of Quince, backed with the various woods and Tobacco, which just gives it this darkly smoky facet. There is a slightly floral part to this whole symphony, almost like a ray of sunshine in a storm which no doubt is the Lily note coming through. On the dry down, the Ambroxan gives it a sweetness but with a woody/smoky edge to it that I absolutely love. This one is a pleasant surprise!

such an interesting scent. some percieve it as feminine, some as masculine, but to me it is perfectly unisex. everytime i smell it, it reminds me of a mediterranean marketplace because of the strong dried fruits and candied quince. the somewhat dark woods add onto that. i dont detect really much floral/musky/balsamic notes in here, just an absolutely perfect smoky fruity scent. 10/10 in my eyes (or nose lol)

I find it impossible to pick out any individual scents or describe this one in any way other than that it conjures the image of a picnic in the forest, but somewhat near a flower field, and, also, there's a bonfire somewhere. It's weird and complicated and unique and lovely.

Very fruity, smoky and woody. Many sprays required for it to project well (5 +). Weird and unique scent but somehow I really enjoy wearing it. Great signature scent for spring and fall. It does smell like sweet licorice to me. Perfectly unisex and I recommend you to try it!

White flower which is not green, indolic or animalic at all with strong powdery spicy notes that turned into sweet powdery wood .Lys solaberg is unique, elegant and complex definitely worth checking out

wow, another surprise from MC. Quite ambroxanish as lots of people commented. I know the smell because Ihave JHAG's Not a Perfume. The fruity noters following the ambroxan in the middle is interesting.

There was a comment, I don't think it was specifically for this perfume but someone said: "It reminds me of a memory I didn't know I have". That sums it up, warm and sunny, wonderful fragrance!

Love at first sniff. For me the carrot seeds were the most prominent and i LOVED it for that. It is unique and has its own personality yet easy and i don’t think anyone will dislike it

This deliciously addictive scent reminded me of a more sophisticated and less linear version of MP's Vanilla Powder. Such a pleasant surprise, really enjoyed wearing it

The promotional copy promises quince and wine lees. I ought to confess at once that I found neither, though I tried with some persistence. This is not necessarily a failing: the declared notes of a fragrance are best understood as a kind of poetry rather than a recipe — approximations of mood, not a manifest of contents. The olfactory pyramid is, in any case, a rather misleading metaphor, suggesting discrete layers arriving in orderly succession, when the reality is altogether more fluid and more interesting. What one does find, from the opening, is a complex yellow-green accord with a distinct saline undertone — dry grass, perhaps a hayloft, the sort of coastal herbaceousness that the house's Nordic marketing evokes quite convincingly. The most volatile top notes — limonene, citral, one imagines — disperse quickly, and here Ambroxan begins its quiet mischief. Officially a base note, it is possessed of a detection threshold so absurdly low (approximately 2 ppb, though figures vary) that it colours the composition from the very first moments, lending warmth to what might otherwise read as austere. The transition to the heart is where the fragrance earns its keep. I did not smell quince in the heart — but I smelled it in the passage between head and heart: a fleeting illusion, most likely assembled by the brain from damascones just beginning to surface alongside the anisic character of carrot seed. By the time the lily accord has fully sounded, the illusion has dissolved. It is a rather elegant trick, whether intentional or not. The lily itself is not the cool, churchyard flower of convention. It carries bitter and resinous undertones that bring it indoors — towards a warm library, a cup of tea, a certain bourgeois comfort. There are rose inflections too (damascones again, one suspects), and possibly the tobacco absolute the house declares; something contributes to that settled, interior quality. The base, when it arrives — and it arrives slowly, which is a virtue — reads to my nose primarily as oakmoss. Synthetic, naturally; Evernia prunastri in its raw form is heavily restricted under current IFRA regulations. But it is unmistakably there, and it reframes the entire composition: bergamot in the top, calamus in the heart, oakmoss in the base. This is a chypre. An original one, with its rose note suppressed in favour of bitter lily, and with a Nordic restraint that prevents it from becoming overbearing — but a chypre nonetheless. Projection and longevity are respectable rather than remarkable. The fragrance does not announce itself; it is discovered at close quarters, which suits its character. It wears as a genuinely unisex composition — the emphasis on dryness and salinity pushes it well clear of either conventional pole. Not a fragrance that shouts. I did not expect to love this fragrance all too much but wow. The scent does evolve a bit throughout it wearing, but the core feeling it gives me ans the wearing experience doesn't change much if it all, it's a very sensual, expensive smelling, slightly exotic, smooth, and alluring scent that's also a little addicting everytime I get wafts of it. On my skin it opens up with a bright but tame citrus, with a very fruity almost photo realistic Candied Quince and some sweet red Wine, overall it's a little bit sharp but pleasant in a way, then after 10-20 minutes the notes of powdered Iris, dried fruits that are coated in wine, and the titular Lily appear, although, the Lily in this is very very smooth, so smooth infact, amost to the point where it feels unimportant compared to the other 2 aforementioned notes in the mid, it does feel rather subdued, due to how seamlessly it's blended inbetween the other notes, but even so I quite like it, but honestly think I'd love it less of the Lily was actually stronger in this. After about 30 mins to 1 hour, the Mid is joined by a little bit of Ambroxan and a bit of smokiness, that help transition it to the drydown, which on my skin is mainly Cedarwood, a little bit of ambroxan and smoke, and Labdanum, if I had to nitpick I think if like if the wine/dried grape kinda note stuck around into the drydown but it's perfectly fine the way it is. Overall it's a fresh but slightly dark scent profile that is quite potent in the opening, but quickly becomes a more subdued scent in the mid and thereafter, it's definitely unique and to a broad audience it definitely would come off as weird but pleasant in a mostly good way, above all else opinions aside it's a very interesting fragrance. I can see this being Good for all seasons, and its good for both formal and casual wear. I get somewhere inbetween light-medium projection on my skin (but leaning more towards light projecting), it's not necessarily a skin scent on me but it's still quite subdued after the vibrant opening, as for longevity I get around 4-5 hours, I'd imagine it would last a decent bit on clothes, but this scent is quite skin chemistry oriented scent profile wise so I'm unsure if it would smell the exact same. I also think it's perfectly unisex imo, nothing really stands out as inherently strongly leaning feminine or masculine in this fragrances composition to me. As you've seen, I'm quite fond of this fragrance, and honestly I reckon its bit of an underrated sleeper both in the Crivelli brand, and a scent in general, and I'll definitely be gatekeeping this for the most part. Another Outstanding release from Maison Crivelli, wish I got my nose on it sooner, top marks. Final Verdict is a 9/10 in terms of uniqueness. Whereas I'd say its true rating in my opinion as a Perfume would be around 7.4/10

#104 of My Fragrance Journey - Maison Crivelli Lys Sølaberg: A prismatic glitch in the fjords. Cold light that doesn't warm anything. Water reflecting a broken sky in fragments. You're walking through damp grass, wind shifting without warning, until you reach a stillness between two wooden walls - and something unfolds that isn't quite a fragrance yet. More like a trace of one. A signal from somewhere else. It opens thick. Quince liqueur, golden and fermented, slightly candied, with a medicinal edge that sits right on the border of synthetic without fully crossing it. Bergamot tries to lift it and just... doesn't. Gets swallowed. The sweetness has weight here, a velvet cloak that isn't soft so much as dense, and you either lean into it or you spend the first twenty minutes waiting for it to move. It does move. Just inward rather than outward. The lily - if that's what it is - never really blooms. It's muted, textured, and almost smoked. Rooty and bitter, carrot seed and calamus underneath, casting something powdery and iris-tinted over the whole composition. It starts to feel less like a flower and more like the memory of one. Peat fires. Salt-crusted wood. The fruit stays, woven in, making everything denser, more eastern in mood - preserved rather than picked, aged rather than fresh. Then the base hits heavier than you expected. Ambroxan pushing smoky guaiac forward, dry charred woods, patchouli, oakmoss, a trace of tobacco. And underneath all of it - mineral, cold, slightly damp. Not comforting. Just there. The synthetic sheen of the ambroxan sits against all those natural textures in a way that feels deliberate, like the contrast is the point rather than a flaw. Lys Sølaberg is a chameleon of a perfume that seems to smell vastly different to different people. This could be due to its plethora of notes, many of which are unusual. To my nose, it is a smooth, sweet scent with fruitiness up top and a woody base. The lily of the title is present, but it is far from being dominant. It has a lot of initial appeal, bold and attention-grabbing, but it fades fast. LS opens with dried fruits, sweet and honeyed, followed closely by the wine lees note. The sour quince adds bite, making for an unusual accord. It is compelling and creative, and so unusual that I would not be able to pick out the individual notes without being guided. It paves the way nicely to the lily-led floral heart, sweet and lush, but not waxy here. There is a nice orris note, likely enhanced by the carrot seeds, making for a powdery texture. As it develops, the smooth woody undertone emerges, grounding the floral-fruitiness nicely. The patchouli adds some earthiness and there is some restrained smokiness too. It fades fast however, becoming a very subtle woody-musky skin scent quite quickly. Ambroxan is put to good use here, its unmistakeable smooth, creamy muskiness smoothing everything together nicely during the later stages. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate overall. It is a unisex, transeasonal scent. After a bold, interesting opening, LS quickly fades to a subtle musky scent, underwhelming if not unpleasant. Overpriced for its performance, but compelling in parts. Bonus points for being unique. 3/5.

It doesn’t carry that crisp, green-white sharpness that lilies often have, nor does it lean into thick-white-floral territory. Instead, it takes on a mellow, nectar-like quality, the fruit and flower inseparable, their scents bleeding into one another. It’s an interesting contrast—this interplay between brightness and languor, between the electric tartness of quince and the way the lily seems to melt into it. There’s something undeniably indulgent about it, yet it never crosses into excess. The boozy touch in the opening hints at opulence, but the fragrance remains airy enough that it never feels heavy or overly decadent. A bottled up bowl of ripening fruit on the table, the air perfumed by a vase of lilies just past their prime. Soft, glowing, and just a little bit intoxicating.

first impression: green, slightly peppery, almost tomato-leaf sharp, not in a harsh way, but in a very real, outdoor way. like a summer evening, sitting outside in copenhagen, air still but cool, something fresh and a little mineral in the background. it quickly softens into something smoother and more introspective. a clean scent, but not musky clean or laundry clean. more like soap in cold water, fresh, quiet, slightly distant. there’s something subtly masculine in the structure, like a cologne backbone, but it never feels overtly “masculine”, just balanced and composed. this isn’t something i’d wear all the time or even right now in my life, but it hits something emotional. it feels like a memory i had living in copenhagen. like kissing someone outside an old pub in the cold, that mix of clean skin, air, and warmth. i actually really like it. not a need-to-own, but something i’d come back to on quiet nights or reflective days. it feels less like a perfume and more like a place. really beautiful as an emotional, atmospheric scent.

Instantly, I became nose-blind, couldn't detect it after a few sniffs, making me wonder where it vanished to. The listed notes seem almost non-existent, as the fragrance chooses its own unique path. What stands out the most to me are the dried fruits and wine lees. It's incredibly fresh, which feels peculiar given that it's suggested for fall and winter. I perceive this as more of a scent for spring and summer, especially during the day; I doubt it would perform well at night. After an hour, I realize this is a scent I'd specifically wear for my lover to nuzzle into my neck—reserved only for them. The sillage is intimate, making it safe to use in spaces for those sensitive to scents. However, as mentioned earlier, this fragrance, when combined with a man's essence, somehow sparks the idea of an intimate embrace with a lover.

It's a smoky lily, quince with just the right amount of sweetness and labdanum (or at least that's what I could pick out), very sophisticated and unique. I can pick out a few notes of wood and tobacco, but they don't seem to dominate. The perfume has both a soft sweet/creamy/ethereal and a dark/gothic vibe together. Crivelli's products never disappoint me, and this one doesn't either. Although the mossy character in the base gives it a slightly vintage feel, but it mostly falls into the modern category. On drydown the smokiness enhances and the fruity character diminishes. The correct notes on their website: Lily flower, quince, calamus essential oil, gaiac wood, ambroxan, oak moss absolute, cedar essential oil, torrefied oak chips absolute, tobacco absolute, cistus labdanum essential oil.

opening is pretty indescribable which tracks with the fact that i havent smelled most of the notes. it’s pretty light, on the fruity side and vaguely sparkling. i get smoky tobacco and dried fruit. but the tobacco is more muted, close to skin, and pale. fruitier tobacco as opposed to one that is vanilla and spice heavy. i dont really smell lily other than a vague airy paleness which could equally be ambroxan. overall, it has very low silage & projection and is subtle. this sounds contradictory with the ambroxan, smoke, tobacco, lily, fruit, and wood notes. however, it’s really not clashing or as intriguing as patchouli magnifique for example. i guess it can be summarized as ambroxans then dried fruity tobacco (BLACK LICORICE ACCORD ALSO) it is indescribable, but not as unique.

Oh, Lys Sølaberg... When I tested it, I was baffled. I couldn't describe the smell at all. What type of perfume was this? I couldn't say anything. So I looked at the note breakdown. Florals, dried fruit, smoke - really? What even is quince... I couldn't recognize any of the notes. To me Lys Sølaberg just smelled... "yellow". It smelled like warm rays of sunshine. That's also what I thought the name means: 'Lys' is light in Norwegian, Sølaberg sounds like a Norwegian name, the copytext is about mountains and fjords... But apparently 'lys' is also 'lily' in French. So the name is a pun. Anyway, this was a really pleasant surprise. Very unique and intriguiging, undecipherable enough to leave fond memories!

Initial spray very different from how this wears 15-20min and further into the experience. Very woody and smokey. Was interesting to see it is voted unisex—feminine. To me it is actually quite masculine despite the fact there is a hint of crisp florals that feel more “formal” rather than flirty or feminine. The tobacco, the woods, dried fruits and ambroxan that surround the airy floral aspect make it very grounded and masculine. Has warmth and elegance about it. I thought I sensed a tiny hint of leather creeping in, but it is not listed. Would love it on a man. On a Fall evening date time. When you want to cuddle and breathe the crisp air. This gives comfort.

It’s giving mulled wine, potpourri, lots of burgundy things. Unexpectedly sweet and fruity, it’s also a little boozy and spicy (a la mulled wine). I suppose it’s the dried fruit and wine lees note that we’re all smelling. So surprised that this ended up being my second favorite from Maison Crivelli. It was one of the last ones left to try since I’m not usually fond of lily scents. But I’m not picking up on any lily at all, so don’t let the name scare you away~ With the addition of something like a beeswax note, I will admit this scent reminds me of old things—grandmas, antique shops,tapestry blankets, etc. But I also think that’s part of the charm 👵🏼🍇

This was a meh fragrance to me at first but it grew on me. I really like to layer this to my soft, dainty, and sweet leaning fragrances to give it more depth. Most especially, I love this because it gives a bit of dirtiness to whatever fragrance I’m currently wearing. I love this when it mixes with my sweat. I becomes sweeter and it projects more. Think being at a bar, tipsy and people are way too close to each other— a bit sweaty but you would want to lean closer into them because they smell so sweet and smoky. This is a Sade aesthetic fragrance. I don’t love it on its own but I want a full size for layering.

I can see the comparison with l'ombre des merveilles, imo it's closer to l'ambre des merveilles, there's something ambery in it which I bet is the combo of dried fruits with ambroxan if not amber itself, which is very similar to the solar effect u get from ambre des merveilles, it's warm and citrusy not very spicy BUT this smells like the ambroxan in MFK BR540 as well, the high-end synthetic, not the cheap ones; like u could tell that this is synthetic but an expensive synthetic. Also, projected quite great on clothes.

The opening is sweet and lily-like. Usually I hate a sweet flower scent but the smokiness of Lys is a saving grace. I wish I got the freshness or the fruitiness that other reviewers talk about, but for me it is powdery, sweet and slightly smoky from the get go. Although you expect a white flower scent to last an eternity, it subsides elegantly and disappears on me in about 3-4 hours. I like it more on the dry-down and, as much as it is a 'feminine' scent, I think it smells rather delicious on a man.

Smells recognizably of the Maison Crivelli DNA (the non-extrait line). They tend to have a warm, spiced, rounded feeling with smooth base notes. I get mostly a fluffy, comforting orris note with a rich, deep sweetness of dried fruits. The base has smooth smoked notes, woods, and sweet hay and tea notes. I really enjoy this one! It’s one of the better fragrances outside of the extraits.

To be completely honest this one isn't a fav to me. It does smell good but surely not a fragrance I pick up often. I've had it for about a year and it's been sprayed maybe 5x. I'll sell if anyone is interested.

Lys Sølaberg (Skin test) I kinda know what is Lys Sølaberg trying to be. It beautifully linear soapy floral kind of way. There was a moment that I finally perceive the lily mid wear but there was a chaotic battle between calone like material, ambergris like mineral tone, the woody and undescribe sweetness and powdery. Yeah, this is kind of classic interpretation of lily component mix together.. complex and transcend. But I just.. prefers the fragrance that reliable. The one that you know what you will be receiving. When you wear, what you feel. In this case, my apologies but Lys Sølaberg can’t make me committed even I test out like 2-3 times in these pass years. I just can’t commit... I appreciate the art in this perfume and I would rate this higher than Iris Malikhan personally. A sure fun ride and you could sniff difference component show up in difference way, it is fun to sniff. My favorite from the house, still - Fleur Diamantine. I know it is aged-old minty aldehyde white floral on bed of moss build using new way material. It is not transcendent .. but I don’t have to deal with uncanny and confusion. I feel like, I would need you like.. maximum 3ml. just a shake of fun wear, at the end I don’t think this is something I wouldn’t repeatedly wear.
