Tobacco Carnaval

So this opens up with familiar vibes of Hugo Boss Bottled Absolu with a nice whisky accord, most likely resonating from the "gourmand accord" note that is nicely blended with the tobacco spices and smoke. The smokey note is hardly detectable and is weaved into the other notes. As also displayed on the note pyramid it's the weakest note of the lot. However the note of Davana within HB Bottled Absolu vibes gives you that whisky accord as well but perhaps a bit more sweeter in this. In the dry down you pick up the sweet vibes found in Mancera Red Tobacco... Let's say if Mancera Red Tobacco and Hugo Boss Bottled Absolu were to make a baby... Opens up with a really dry, aged tobacco note, buffered by a bed of spices. As it dries down, the jammy and boozy notes are revealed. If you're looking at Oud Cadenza but prefer something fruitier, sweeter and less dense, Tobacco Carnaval is your answer. It's not something I'd wear personally, but I would love this on my husband on a cool date night.

I had the opportunity to try this today and I have to say, it’s quite an interesting one. I get a blast of chocolate and tobacco in the opening, alongside dried fruits. I don’t get too much of a boozy impression personally; the dried fruit aspect is much more prominent to my nose. As it starts to dry down, the vanilla becomes more apparent. It reminds me quite heavily of Caden, with a very slight hint of Babycat in the background (perhaps that bourbon vanilla/suede combination?) Interestingly, because I work with raw materials, the opening actually gave me a fleeting impression of Cambodian oud. Cambodian oud can have those deep, cacao-like chocolate nuances, so that association immediately came to mind. However, as it dried down, that impression faded and it became pretty apparent to me that there isn't an oud-like character actually present. That being said, I’m honestly quite conflicted about it. There were moments where I was thinking “just wash it off” and others where I was telling myself to keep it on and give it more time 😂. For the love of the game, I kept it on. There’s definitely something interesting happening here, and I can appreciate what Maison Crivelli are going for, but I’m not sure it’s something I personally enjoy wearing. The chocolate, tobacco, dried fruit and vanilla combination is rich and sweet, but something about the overall scent just doesn’t quite click for me. Interestingly, deep into the dry down, I’m getting this marine/salty, sweet and airy quality that reminds me of ambergris. It’s not something I noticed initially, but it really started to come through with time and added another dimension to the fragrance. Overall, this is one I’m glad I gave a proper wear rather than judging immediately. I’m still undecided on whether I actually like it, but there’s enough going on here to make me want to keep smelling it.

I'm scared after sampling and then buying Safran Secret. I sprayed it on the other day and it burnt my nose. Made me so nauseous. Then everyone is saying the new Musc scent smells similar to SS. Then the notes here don't look very pleasing. Its not hard to mess up tabac though right? What are the gourmand notes? Don't leave us hanging... if anyone finds a place to sample. Inbox me.. I also think something weird is going on. When I sample a perfume its usually over weeks or months. Sometimes 2 or 3 years. I make sure I like the sample. I've purchased 4 Crivellis based off sampling extensively. Yet, 3 of 4 of the bottles smelt different than the sample. Maybe the samples are brand new and the bottle I get is old? Idk

Very disappointed with this release; it offers absolutely nothing new. This is basically a slightly tweaked Oud Cadenza, but still essentially smells the same - I personally see no point in owning both.

Best act fast when this releases before the batch police and tin foil hat crew who buy 40 bottles each jump in. lol.
