Macanudo

I'm surprised by the amount of bergamot I get in this. It's especially forward in the opening and sitting heavy still when it dries. The hay here is wet, green and freshly baled. There is a fairly gourmand vanillic note in the beginning that I was taken aback by as well. It softens and blends with that vetiver but sits firmly under that almost dry citrus and green grass. It's really pleasant and earthy. Sort of reminds me of my compost bin after too many lemon rinds (in the most endearing way possible). The green sweetness is really what sells me on this. It's very lovely. Projects decently in the beginning but doesn't last very long. Maybe 3-5 hours. Similar to what others have said (and what I've said in my other MdE reviews), these fragrances are wildly expensive. Far out of my budget at the moment. This holds second place in my favorites and line up for full-bottle if I ever happen into that kind of money.

Beautiful and well-done! I definitely see the kinship with Vetiver Tonka (and the other above-referenced sweet, dry, "tonkified" vetivers like Bal d'Afrique), but this feels like a different beast. VT feels like natural materials crafted into sculpted modern art. Macanudo reads more as soft, muted hay rather than almondy tonka. The dirty geosmin-aura evokes pastoral settings. It is hazy and musky without really being super animalic, even though it conjures horsey thoughts. Lovely and wish I had a bottle!

This is a gorgeous and breathtaking olfactory experience. This is the sensory experience of an early morning spring ride on horseback, the cool mountain breeze rolling in from up the hill, still damp from the night's rain. As you ride, hooves rip open the rich earth and the smells of petrichor and hay fill your senses. Not a dirty earth but a refined and elegant earth. Like that of a vineyard or privately owned preserve. This is lovely and gorgeous.

This is so beautiful! I like the smell of fresh cut grass and nature right before a rain storm arrives. I don’t have the words to describe it. It’s herbaceous, a little woody and a tad bit sweet (in a natural way). A lady at my gym hugged me and immediately said, you smell so lovely. I am so glad I have this.

I picked this up during their "vintage" sale. The scent is unmistakably outdoorsy—like a field of lush, green grass at peak bloom, just after a summer rain. It's dewy, earthy, and soaked in nature. There's a wetness to it, humid and alive, that lingers beautifully on the skin.

So gentle and lovely. Grassy yes, but not fresh cut grass. More the gentle tumbleweeds of the Wild West, mixed with some earthy winds. I found myself reaching for the 5ml so often that I blew through it in a month and now bought the full size.

A beautiful fragrance. Strong notes of earth and petrichor with a sweetness from the hay beneath. As a life long "horse girl" it really does bring me back to days at the barn, with rain on the ground and hooves turning up grass and earth.

This is glorious, sweet grass during a globular rain. Intensely comforting. Would have instantly purchased if it didn’t evaporate completely after 3 hours on the skin (might have to do with the vintage decant I bought during their sale).

I used to work at a horse barn, and when I wear this I'm brought straight back to rainy spring days, the horses running in the mud in the back pasture. Fresh cut grass and hay stacks. There's something steamy about it, too. I'm in love.

Oh WOW. Such a stunning unisex fragrance. So elegant and fresh. I’m obsessed to say the least. I LOVE this house. It has been my favorite thus far. I have noisette from this house... hoping to add macanudo to my collection soon ✨

Now THIS is the one for me. Wet, wet grass and earth - not so green as to lack complexity though. It's grounded by hay and vetiver. Like a breath of fresh air on a recently rained in field, you can smell the mud. It's beautiful.

The most photorealistic perfume I have ever smelled. Such a interesting experience, I was instantly transported.Peeling a orange on a waterfall, cold water running over slime stones, wet earth, clear skies.

My favorite clean Vetiver. Price point for 60mls is outrageous. Not complex and fairly linear. Still absolutely beautiful clean Vetiver. If that’s what you want, this is amazing.

Macanudo is a fragrance that evokes open fields of nature at its best. The fragrance lasts all day and is even as nice in its waning scent. I love it. I will purchase again.

Sweet, wet grass and earth are presented really elegantly here. The strong vetiver is “wild” but restrained.

This is the most photorealistic rain/petrichor/moss fragrance I’ve ever smelled! It’s very good

A spa-like vetiver scent. Macanudo is what Comme des Garçons Hinoki would be if Hinoki were prominently about wet vetiver and hay instead of wet hinoki and cedar. This is also probably the most accurate, yet completely wearable soil and petrichor perfume I’ve ever tried. There’s something cooling here, too, as with Hinoki. A long time ago I used to bale hay. Macanudo is reminding me of the smell of freshly baled hay when you have to bale it before the grass has had a chance to dry completely because of unrelenting rain. That’s not good, because eventually you’ll have a lot of moldy hay bales, but in the moment while throwing them in the truck and piling them in the barn, it’s the most sweetly concentrated, earthy, grassy, watery scent. It gets all over your hands, arms, face, and clothing and you smell deliciously green, like you were plucked from the ground. What a scent memory to go back to.

To my undeveloped nose, and smelling them side by side, there is strong similarity between Macanudo and Xerjoff Nio. However, the former has a note that grounds it, whereas the latter is more ethereal by comparison. While Nio appears on paper to have the spicier accord, I'm actually getting a stronger spice vibe from whatever it is grounding the Macanudo. I'd be curious to better understand that accord. It's not unpleasant to my nose, but just slightly unappealing. Macanudo appears to have the stronger drydown, at least on my skin. Overall, I like this scent, as I am fond of Nio and citrus colognes. Between the two, I believe I prefer Nio for the absence of the mystery accord I find in Macanudo, as well as price.
