Rotano

I like this. It has a musty facet, and I would personally slide in a "musty" accord somewhere in the stack. I'm not sure if I necessarily get a horse association, and probably wouldn't identify it as such if I hadn't already known. Having said that, I am not a horse person and so have very few logged minutes around horses. But there is a slight animalic skank in the opening, but not nearly as nasty as so many other animalic accords are. I can imagine this smelling like an old, well-used leather saddle sitting on an old, worn and musty rocabar (the blanket that sits on the horse directly under the saddle). But all of that in the most pleasant, wearable way. The cypriol is prominent. The performance is a question though. The quiet sillage is fine, but I can't smell it the next morning after a night wear. This could go in my Sartorial Collection and be in a formal wear rotation. Something about this reminded me of Oxford by Roberto Ugolini, which is on my to-buy list, so I went and looked at my review of Oxford. And this in my review stood out: "...Oxford does have a certain mustiness, giving it a somewhat antique vibe. An Old Money dark wood paneled library with Chesterfield tufted leather furniture, green rugs, etc....". That elegant old mustiness that gives an antique, old, or pleasantly worn vibe is present in both. I think I'll try layering this with Hermès Rocabar and then separately, Lalique Equus. Update: I received an advertisement via email from Maison d'ETTO, saying "Our 60ML, full-sized bottles are intentionally travel-ready and carry-on approved" and are "TSA-Approved" 😂. Um no, its just a creative but ridiculous way to justify undersized bottles at exorbitant prices. Funny. Still a great fragrance though.

I'm already in love with Rotano. What a wonderful experience it is. As many have already noted this fragrance is a deliciously sun warmed clean leather. The musk is such a natural, soft, comforting blend. It's animalic, it's human, it's so unique and I simply cannot get enough. Myrrh lends a resinous warmth. It's also oily in the best way possible. A well oiled, well kept leather. Liquid smooth and shiny. A freshly cleaned horse coat gleaming under a summer sun. The longevity is good, held up fairly well overnight, though it's not much of a projector. I want to spray someone I love down with this and bury my face in their hair and neck, I want my home to smell like Rotano. God if only I had pockets deep enough to get a full bottle. One day I hope. If you can get your hands on a sample do it before I get them all.

First Impression: right away, this grabbed me and didn't let go. Testing on skin I get tons of nuanced cuir swirling around over bed of resins dripped wood. Absolutely phenomenal leather that isn't challenging imo, and smells expensive and unique. Feels like it's telling you a story. High art leather which is generally not a thing in this genre, but THIS is a great wearing experience through and through. I purchased a full bottle pretty quickly and so did my buddy. It's more about the animal and beautiful leathers instead of manure.

On the quest for as perfect an equine leather as there possibly can be, several were promising to start, but would often disassemble into hackneyed dry downs. Then I smelled Rotano and it is the exact whiff of horse stable that I wanted so badly, the buffalo leather seat of a worn and loved saddle, waves of timothy grass and sun-seasoned softness into a blanket. It has a warmed, almost musty wood and translucent frankincense resin in its base that feels like dusky bliss. This is at the junction of sexy and serene. As I wear it, I listen to Slowdive's Pygmalion, the sky is that cerulean color just before everything goes dark, and it's just everything I could ask for in a fragrance, right here and now.

To me this smells like a long day working in the sun with dirty, calloused hands. Definitely dirt under your fingernails. Fur and mud caked onto very worn in jeans. Sweat soaked tack that's like hot and moist. Smells like someone who doesn't have health anxiety (complementary) and will drink directly from a rusted spigot with not a single afterthought. Anamalic as the Dickens. It paints a very specific image for me that feels nostalgic and personal. Not very confident that this would be a crowd pleaser if you wore it out and about.. but I will try anyway

Luxuriously Mexican. Citizen of the world, but Western at heart. Rotano has range. Enjoys the Opera but loves to indulge in a warehouse rave. She’s got on Gucci by Tom Ford. Jewel tones. Black. Kind at heart. Elegant but fucks like an animal. The dirtiness feels so clean. Leather done exceptionally well. A sweetness so subdued it’s not even an accord. Gorgeous suede and minimally salty not aquatic but sweet sweat. Gorgeous. Need an extrait and I’ll wear this forever.

Rotano may be one of the most beautifully serene leather fragrances I've worn. typically I find leather to be challenging, or too photorealistic. I don't want to smell like a shoe. Rotano instead is beautifully multifaceted, and the leather is balanced by supporting notes. The musk and cypriol make a gorgeous opening, but just as the leather comes through notes of cedar and frankincense also appear. The result dries down to a very sexy musk that I find irresistible.

I have never smelled anything more amazing in my entire life. I am absolutely obsessed with this scent. This is the ultimate marriage of refined elegance and natural ruggedness. This is the spirit of masculinity. This is Teddy Roosevelt in the Dakota Territories. This is Dennis Quaid from the Parent Trap. This is JFK on his sailboat. This is the best of the old money aesthetic with none of the scandals.

Help. I have fallen in love. Starts off farm-y animalic, settles into a sweet, hazy leather. Makes me feel like it's the only masculine-leaning frag I need (which I know isn't true in my perfume loving heart) but it's doing that to me!!

My favorite fragrance from this house and a top 3 2020 release for me. Sexy, animalic leather. Very unique. Surprised by the compliments I get on this one - always seems to drive people to ask what I'm wearing

This scent is sorcery. Forget what you know about typical leather scents—this is a unique, storytelling experience.

This is the perfect equestrian scent ive been looking for but the performance is horrible. Skin scent that lasts maybe 2 hours in a dry high altitude climate and then its gone. Expensive for something that acts like a cologne. It does get the horse accord right - like how a horse and saddle smell after an hour jumping or dressage class. Very easy to wear not negatively animalic i just wish it projected more, at least at arms length and lasted at least 3 hours. I dont think this will change much in warmer weather at all lower altitude. It is what it is. Too bad, so close

Meticulously constructed animalic scent intended to give the aura of steeds and riding. The scent opens with a central accord constructed of cypriol and synthetic musk intended to evoke the smell of horses and stables. As the scent develops, the heart reveals notes of leather, suede and myrrh. The scent dries off into a cedar and olibanum base. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Intended for fearless and bold personalities. Enjoy!

This makes me smell like an upper class centaur getting sweaty in his leather gear at the kink club. Delicious. It’s actually not quite animalic enough for me, so if you’re wanting to dip your toes into the weird and wonderful world of animalics but feel a bit trepidatious, this might be a good scent to sample.

at first it really turned me off because it smells like a well groomed man but then i thought "wait what if it was a girl" and then i was really turned on (for context im a lesbian)

yes, it is sun-kissed leather eroded by wear and sweat. but it also smells like a warm pretzel covered in specks of sea salt. ah, the duality of scent!

Nooo, I’m so bummed about this one. I wanted a leather-heavy scent, but instead I got Le Labo’s Thè Matcha (minus the tea, add a horse lol), and I am not a fan of Thé Matcha.

This fragrance might be my new favorite... I’m so addicted to this chic but also nature-oriented leather, fine-grained and shiny but in a field of wild grass, flowers, and horses. She’s who I want to become. A good listener, wild curly hair, only a little bit of tinted moisturizer, the beginning of elegant crows feet, effortlessly gorgeous. She makes her own natural dyes and dips beautiful linens, but she doesn’t sell them - just gives them to friends as gifts. I love her.

This is an incredible fragrance! With the first spritz, I could smell the horse, the saddle and even the seasoned wood walls of the stable. Both I (f) and my partner (m) enjoy wearing it, so I would say it's unisex. Although it seems to project only a couple hours, I do find that the scent lasts a long time on my skin and lasts forever on paper/clothes.

This is such a beautiful and distinctive fragrance. You get a faint whiff of a horse stable that is strangely intoxicating. The story behind the brand is uniquely personal and authentic to the founder who is an equestrian. I recommend it highly. This is a reflection of a new breed of perfumers who are creating special scents and new stories.
