Ylang d’Or

This is one of the very few perfumes that immediately caught my attention - as a man. It certainly is more feminine leaning but I also enjoy simply smelling it on my skin and even more so in the air. I gifted it to my partner and love the way it smells on her. The name Ylang D’Or can be misleading as I don’t find Ylang Ylang note to be present - though it might be. This is actually a more tropical scent with a zingy fresh opening. I get the smell of fresh green leaves and wet flowers right after a rainfall. This is a very uplifting and energizing scent. The scent leaves one of the best scent trails (5/5 sillage). The projection is moderate (3/5) when comparing to all scents, but is on the stronger side for a freshie. The longevity is also very good (4.5/5) and can last over 8-hours on skin and much more on clothes. I’ve purchased this along with Bois Sacre from this house. Very pricy perfumes but also very unique scents. We are almost through half the bottle of Ylang D’Or after a few months. Overall, this is a very unique and worthy purchase for a spring-summer scent.

what a pleasant little surprise! i was going through my old sample stash, and i’m never attracted to the name “ylang.” i saw no reviews and thought, ok, let’s give it a try—and wow. instantly, a surge of citrus with a delightful, “sunny” tuberose. really, if this were a colour, it would’ve been yellow, and it should’ve been called sunny side up instead of ylang d’or. the opening is a playful, youthful citrus combo, maybe with just the slightest woody touch that kind of feels like pepper. very quickly, the citruses unveil a creamy, masterfully sweet tuberose, along the same lines as rouge malachite almost, but more sophisticated, more banana-y, and more yellow. the summer florals are weighed down by a musky base, which i think makes it play out beautifully on skin and last quite a while. recommended if you’re not afraid of creamy white + yellow floral combos.

I have been watching VeronicaSays on Youtube talk about this for weeks and I finally broke down and bought a sample. It opens with a syrupy and cinnamony tuberose with yellow flowers. It is similar to Flor Y Canto, and I prefer that one to be honest because Flor Y Canto has the rich white florals plus copal. There is something animalic in this that is not listed. For a second I thought it smelled fecal, but that might just be funkiness with the yellow florals, and it was just momentary. It's a very sexy scent, reminds me of a woman of the 80s who kills people in a spy movie with knives in her stilettos. Some of the florals remind me slightly of Olene by Diptyque but it's not nearly as heady. To be honest if you like this I think you would like Flor Y Canto by Arquiste more. 8/10
