Reflets d'Ambre

A floral vanilla with warm, powdery tones, Reflets d’Ambre is an utterly addictive scent fit for a modern-day princess. It is familiar—sure, but still such an elegant floral gourmand with a crowd-pleasing sillage. I’ve been spritzing on this gorgeous potion for the last month or so, and let me tell you—I ALWAYS, without fail, get approached and asked what scent I am wearing. Despite its name, I get very little amber throughout, with only soft whispers of hazy smokiness over a smooth, fluid vanilla. Vanilla. She is the belle of the ball and, as she holds court, she gets lovelier by the minute. Fifteen minutes in, the luminous opening lifts, and what emerges is a powdery, effortlessly elegant vanilla that smells so familiar, I drove myself mad trying to puzzle it out. Until it hit me—this could be a sibling of Celine’s Dans Paris, but smoother, more fluid and impossibly elegant, with superior performance and an infinitely softer and fluffier pink pepper opening. The heart of the scent is woven of florals, but so golden and abstract, I am too entranced to notice the specifics. When I start paying attention, I get ribbons of jasmine. It is balmy, with a warm silky finish and dreamy sillage. Steeped in vanilla, it comes through almost as candied iris/heliotrope combo, weaving beautifully with the discreet woody base. All throughout, vanilla remains the centerpiece of this fume, and as it dries down, it evokes that elusive syrupy magic I get in vintage Guerlain, surrounded by the airy and shimmering powder over warm creamy base. I’m not going to lie—this is the dreamiest vanilla I’ve worn in a while. As for Ciel de Gum references, I pick up a faint resemblance in the scent’s creamy base, but it is certainly its own creation and, if you are a fellow vanilla lover, deserves a good sniff. mytopnotes @ IG

Review: MFK Reflets d’ambre Wow! If I was inclined to choose a signature fragrance for myself I think this would be it. This opens with a sparking pink pepper - this pink pepper is NOT harsh, abrasive or nauseating. It’s smooth, spiced and immediately I get the impression of amber. Soon there after the jasmine comes forward. The Jasmine is soft and round, almost an abstract Jasmine rather than a true to life Jasmine. Perhaps my perception will change with more wears. The deep dry down is delicious patchouli forward amber. It’s filled of contradictions; syrupy yet powdery. Rich yet airy. Like another favorite of mine Guerlain’s Bois D’Armenie; Reflects d’ambre creates a mystical woody balsamic aura around the wearer, giving them hours of a sweet resinous scent bubble. The silage is above average. I wore RdA out today and throughout the shop I kept waking into my siliage. Reflects d’ambre doesn’t become more intimate until the 6 hours mark. I have not been able to test Ciel de Gum (please, message me if you have a sample or decant to swap with me- I am dying to sample it) though many say this is Ciel de Gum but lighter and airier. I find this composition to be full bodied so Ciel de Gum must be fantastic!! It also smells nothing like Gaultier2. I am already considering a backup bottle of Reflets d’ambre. It’s still being sold by Harrods as it’s a Harrods exclusif.

Simply gorgeous and the closest interpretation we are going to get to Ciel de Gum for reasonable price. This pays homage to CdG but is a brighter and more feminine leaning version of CdG. I am really enjoying this and cannot wait to experience it when my bottle ages/macerates more. Layers beautifully with Grand Soir taken it ever closer to the much desired CdG. I can see why they did what they did here as RdA would be more mass appealing compared to CdG. CdG was let's be honest only more desired once it became unattainable...and I love CdG but it took years for me to appreciate my sample I have of it. RdA pays homage to CdG while bringing something a little new, more modern, uplifting and more appropriate for the warmer season. I will be getting a second bottle before it disappears forever and then reappears on the secondhand market for a £1000... CdG's little sister.

This is marvelous. Slightly feminine, but not overly so. Definitely unisex. In the Xerjoff Richwood, Chanel Coromandel, Guerlain Shalimar and MFK Ciel de Gum family. It is slightly more feminine than Richwood and Coromandel. It really smells like the love child between either of those two and Shalimar. I absolutely love it. A rich, lush almost flamboyant special occasion or date night scent. Amber #1, patchouli #2 and vanilla #3. Powdery, with a slight make-up vibe. Like the smell on a man's neck and cheek after kissing a woman passionately. 9.5/10. Reflets d'Ambre deserves a Fragrantica score of 4.4-4.5, in my opinion. In my embarrassingly massive collection, it is at least Top 20, if not Top 10. Just like Oud Satin Mood, Reflets d'Ambre is Francis Kurkdjian at his best: elegant and refined, yet opulent and luxurious.

This is, without exaggeration, my signature scent. I don’t think I’ve ever been so obsessed with a drydown before. From the very first wear, I kept going back to my wrist just to experience that phase again and again. The opening is beautiful, but the magic truly happens later. It melts into the skin in the most addictive way — warm, slightly citrusy, ambery, and incredibly sensual without being heavy or overwhelming. It’s not gourmand, not overly sweet, not floral... just perfectly balanced and effortlessly elegant. Feels deeply luxurious and intimate, like it feels Grand Soir but the women version. This is the kind of fragrance I want to always have in my collection.

I was able to get my hands on a full bottle of this exclusive release in January. While many may be expecting a variation of Grand Soir the two aren’t alike at all. It actually shares half the same notes as the discontinued Ciel de Gum and the two are quite similar, though Reflets d’Ambre is lighter and airy. Definitely a wonderful everyday amber scent. Performance is on par with most of the MFK line and last on my skin all day. Exclusive to Harrods but I’d definitely try to get a bottle if you’re an MFK collector.

That's a very good fragrance. Sweet, floral, ambery, vanillic, with a surprisingly fresh side. It's pretty unique yet unsurprising. I don't think this is one of his best creations, but it's still a very good fragrance. The best thing I could say to describe how I feel about it is : I won't buy a full bottle unless I get a mad deal, but I would be very happy to receive it as a gift.

This is not Ciel de Gum- but it is a lovely iteration. It’s lighter and brighter. I think everyone is expecting this to be Ciel de Gum, and because this is lacking the deep richness of the jasmine that is key to Ciel, they’re disappointed. That being said, I am very happy to have this. It will wear better in the warmer weather than Ciel.

This fragrance is absolutely magnificent. A perfect peppery amber with the warmest vanilla. Not too sweet, not too powdery.Well balanced and layers well with other amber note fragrances (Tribeca, 312 Saint Honore)...Probably my favorite 2024 purchase.

One of the best works of Mr. Kurkdjian, if not the best! It’s elegant, discrete and intimate, but also warm, deep and refined. It blew my mind from the first spray and I still love it to this day, forever in my top 5!

I think the low rating for this fragrance comes from people on the internet comparing this to Ciel de Gum and having everyone expecting this fragrance to be a rerelease. It’s not. It’s literally a completely different fragrance and if you approach it like that you won’t find yourself disappointed or comparing things that shouldn’t be compared. This is a classic jasmine heavy, fragrance warmed up by a base of light amber and vanilla. It’s a bit indolic, opens with a bit a peppery medicinal punch and dries down to a slightly powdery, golden and soft amber with a smoother jasmine that dances between sweet, musky and slightly animalic. To my nose this is not a masculine fragrance. It’s feminine, and almost has a modern vintage feel. If you do not like Jasmine, you will not like this. If you are looking for a rerelease of CDG you will be disappointed. If you are expecting another Grand Soir, this is not it. If you actually love a good Kurkdjian floral, or enjoy his style of fragrance and love Jasmine, I would give this a try while it’s still available.

To me it smells like macys in the like mid 2000-2009 where someone just sprayed Givenchy PI in the air an hour before you walked in there to get to the food court. its a lighter, airy, slightly more floral yet better performing, givenchy PI. It feels familiar as a scent DNA but the dry down is very nice as the florals tone down and its more amber and vanilla in the way that i wish grand soir was instead of it being so amber heavy with vanilla hiding. Gives me rich elegant auntie vibes in that smelling it makes me hear my aunts gold bangles clanging while she shopped, and I mean that in a good way lol. Not auntie as in old, I mean the one that wears sunglasses when she shops auntie. I like it, would prolly love it more on a woman than myself as it’s feminine leaning imo, not sure its blind buy worthy at the price and shipping fees but its put together very well, no regrets

Hear me out. I tried this today and I was surprised that I knew this scent from before. I have already smelled it and it is very familiar. I kept thinking of my grandma and aunts when it dawned on me that it smells very similar to Estee Lauder White Linen Breeze. My first ever perfume in the 90's. If you are looking for something extraordinary and new, this isn't it. I feel like MFK and Harrods designed this scent for the rich Aunts and remind them how fun shopping was in the 90's. Reminiscent of Mom taking me shopping with Grandma in tow. Maybe it reminded MFK of his mother. The scent is extremely vintage and nostalgic. Alas, I was looking forward to a more modern appealing scent profile. *Edit I let it sit for a while and test it every few weeks or so. After it sat for a few months, it grew a bit sweeter and the nuances or the florals got more pronounced. I'm happy to say that it is getting better with age. Very elegant and classy.

It is a spicy indolic jasmine. I was hoping for something amazing, but will sell this because it isn't magic and from CDG/harrods/MFK magic was the hope. Jasmine fiends will appreciate this.

So, I just received my bottle after rushing to order it from Harrods Knightsbridge and I find this to be a little disappointing. It is very similar to Ciel de Gum but it is neither as thick nor as interesting as the original to me. This version is a lot more floral and lacks the gloopy, ambery base and the little incense of the CdG. I suspect this is both a reformulation based on materials being restricted and an updated version for a different audience. The hedione intensifies the white floral aspect and that's not my jam. Someone else may love it

Initial spray of this is attractive and I enjoyed it, however after a few hours, this develops into something quite animalic that I need to scrub off. I felt I wanted to gag and it (literally) put me off my lunch... I’m sure some will absolutely love this, but I tried it 3 times over a two week period and felt the same about it each time. Unfortunately, despite the promising note profile, this is a ‘no’ from me 💔

Ohh gosh! I only wish I could return this perfume. Apparently I can’t do amber scents. I’ve listed it in the fragrance swap section and on Mercari. Sprayed it two times and I will never never wear it

I got a decant from a friend who bought a bottle and echoing reviewers below, yeah it smells a lot like Ciel de Gum. Though it’s been a long time since I’ve smelled that fragrance and I had to dive deep into my samples to find it to compare again but MFK was the first niche house I tried many years ago now and back then I tried all their offerings and remember liking it but found it a little too masculine leaning for my tastes. When comparing them side by side the similarities are definitely there but this version is more feminine to me with the added florals. It’s nice but overall just okay to me but those who enjoy Ciel de gum and wanted a more feminine floral version of it would probably really enjoy this. It’s airy whereas CDG is more thick. Performance was moderate, good sillage for a few hours, lighter wear but definitely not a skin scent, just not as powerful as the original Ciel de gum. If I had to choose between the two I’d go with the original, it has more character to it I think. Edit: I didn’t know CDG was now discontinued, I should have kept my bottle from back then because people are selling them for crazy amounts. Saw one going for $950 😳 damn lol.

I finally got my hands on it, blind buy! Opening reminds me of a watered down Grand Soir , in a good way! I always thought Grand Soir is nice, and one day i will own it... but I always found Grand Soir (in capital) LOUD! This is a perfect alternative for me. It has this edge from the amber but it’s compensated by Jasmin flowers. It’s amber first though, so don’t expect it to be full on flowerly I do agree with people when they say “this is what your aunt in the 90’s would wear”. But this aunty is bad ass and was way ahead of her time while her friends were all wearing no5. This would be my favorite aunt.

This is very well done. Actually it smells almost like a vintage scent, l never tried Ciel de Gum, so I can't opine about the likeliness between these 2 scents, but for some reason it reminds me of some older Guerlain scents, like a very vintage L'instant. This is a nice amber vanilla scent with mild spiciness, and some patchouli. I think this is elegant and pleasant, but to be honest, I think it is overpriced and not so original. Update: Actually it reminds me a lot of L'instant pour Home, vintage version.

I've never sampled Ciel de Gum, but I did own a bottle of Elie Saab Essence no. 3 Ambre by Kurkdjian and Reflets d'Ambre is VERY similar to that. It's a little warmer and rounder, fuller than Essence no. 3, but the similarities are definitely there. Problem is that the Elie Saab are discontinued, so you can't just snag that one for a lower price. Anyway, I think this one is great, worth the money since it'll be out of production as of December of '24. I may get a backup bottle.

I truly love this scent. Magnificent -- favorite MFK, even months later. I ordered a sample in search of something similar to the elusive CdG. I smell some surface similarities (pepper and jasmine), but Reflets quickly expands into its own unique and compelling world. It reads more neoclassical, in a Stravinsky way (especially without the wintry cinnamon note of CdG). Transparent, bright and effervescent, but also rich and retro. Exquisite.

It’s a peppery amber scent, far more airy than Ciel du Gum which is richer and more resinous. Performance is overall good but I honestly don’t see any similarities to CdG. I’ve a 70 ml bottle for sale, full presentation, it’s full. Please contact me if you’re interested. UK only

The fragrance is being compared and likened to highly rated fragrances, some that came out after the original and yet people just want to hate. I wish more discontinued fragrances were reimagined or restored.

This is similar to houbigant Mon Boudoir- however it has a fizzy champagne note and diluted down. Earthy grounded refined. But not long lasting on skin max 4 hours. I prefer Mon boudoir

I really wonder why did Mr Kurkdjian decide to create only clean musk and amber-vanilla perfumes last years. I wait for Le Beau or something that poetic and beautiful with faith.

Verrrrrrrry much like Ciel de Gum. Don't go paying upwards of $1000 for that. I think this is a re-release but with a different name, as it has nothing to do with Gum anymore.

As soon as got it on. It reminded me of My Queen from Alexander McQueen. Has to be violet in this one. GORGEOUS!
