Acquasala

I discovered Acquasala entirely by chance during a holiday in Puglia, when I stepped into a clothing boutique after lunch at a restaurant in front of a boutique in Lecce. I tested several fragrances, and eventually chose this one—partly because it immediately appealed to my girlfriend, and partly because its character resonated strongly with me. Only later did I learn who the perfumer behind this creation was. To my nose, Acquasala recalls (let's say 9/10) Acqua di Sale by Profumum Roma, a scent I deeply appreciate and wear regularly. The base shares that unmistakable saline, marine signature—authentic and evocative—yet Acquasala introduces a subtly sweeter undertone that sets it apart and gives it its own identity (maybe the nutmeg??). Longevity is solid for a marine composition, and its development, while less linear than typical Profumum creations, remains smooth and coherent as it dries down. The bottle is clean and minimal, with a well-crafted cap and an excellent atomizer. Overall, the price aligns with today’s niche perfume market and feels appropriate for the quality delivered.

Fresh, sexy, marine. I wore it during my summer holidays in hot Athens and on the Greek islands. It will remind me of the beautiful time there: hot air, sea smell mixed with herbs and flowers, sea hot wind, hot evening air in Athens. It captures my memories.

★★★1⁄2 This is a very interesting take on a marine scent. The opening is spicy, I get pepper and nutmeg. The seaweed note brings out the marine aspect and is complimented by a beautiful and subtle neroli note. In order to keep the marine theme, the fragrance progresses with more resinous notes of myrrh and olibanum, which give a mineral quality to the iris that appears and helps maintaining the "wet" feeling in a very clever way. The fragrance effect is soft, not intense, calming and reminiscent more of wet pebbles than oceanic spray, sunscreen and algae which have already been a theme in various other fragrances. Towards the drydown, it gets smokier with notes of patchouli and cashmeran, still tracing the olibanum that keeps the mineral watery effect, so even after the smoky woodiness progression its less marine but still marine It's really interesting how citrus and fruity notes were rightfully avoided, as well as the absence of calone. This is a step further to new suggestions of already established perfume genres. There is nothing tropical or overly saline about it. It's a calm, grey shore full of wet pebbles and wet woods. Romantic and mysterious, subtly sexy and warm. Thumbs up for innovation and creativity.

Well,I experienced some perfumes of this italian brand,and I think that the nose Luca Maffei made interesting things. But this time , I can only smell a lot of seaweed (pretty overwhelming) some pepper, a shade of iris and nothing else. I suggest to try on the skin, not only on paper strip,before buy it.
