No.02 Le Long Fond

This is extremely green and almost medicinal to my nose. At first I found it jarring but now I'm a little obsessed with how weird it is. It reminds me of an unusually sweet pine tar soap initially, and then some dry powdery notes come out after a few minutes. But through all that, the greenness gives this a vintage fougère quality. This scent is interesting enough that I find myself intentionally taking close sniffs to understand it better throughout the day. I will likely get the full size bottle eventually. The projection is pretty average, and the staying power is such that I smell it on my clothes for days after I wear it.

I really like this fragrances but I only wish it was tiny bit stronger! It's a dewy fresh hinoki. Almost like you're sitting by a pond in a forest. There's something slightly aquatic about it. It's such a lovely scent but it sits really close to skin. One of my friends loved it just as much, but the other found it old school (patchouli, maybe?). Patchouli is quite strong in here but I love it so maybe that's why it works for me. Personally, I think it's a beautiful fresh woody scent! I'd probably go for the oil version for added longevity even though I like the airiness of the EDP!

OMGGGG pine-lovers unite! i have the oil + the spray and i'd go for the oil, tbh. i think this is perfect as part of a forest-combo. i wouldn't use this buy itself, but it's a great topper to add. my friend hugged me while i was wearing this and said "oh my god, you smell like a forest!" (very positively lol). this definitely does hit a lemony note, but if u wait past it, it warms up in the dry down and turns to delicious foresty goodness :) not too sweet, just the right amount. i layer this with fig infusion by essential parfums and it's so fresh and woody.

Very photorealistic Hinoki scent to my nose. This to me is very summery. It feels like having a dip in a bathtub made of hinoki wood in summer. I can’t get enough of it. I wish it lasted longer/projected a bit more but it feels very light and sheer. Perfect for summer use. It feels more like a functional fragrance.

Last year I was on the hunt for the perfect Christmas fragrance. I returned many scents that I blind bought. I got this in a sampler from Sephora, and I'll definitely be buying a full bottle. For me, it smells just like my Christmas candles I was hoping to find in perfume form. It's perfect!

GREEN. Reminds me a bit of this old DKNY green apple scent I had. Not the green apple note, but just the greenness. I love it. Definitely understand the "cold" description. A shock - not a warm feeling, but still a cozy familiar one.

First spray lands with a sharpness, but settles quickly with an airy hinoki -- smooth and crisp at the same time. Unisex without leaning one way or the other.

My favorite from the discovery kit, snells expensive but not over the top.

Totally different from what I expected, in the best way. No. 02 Le Long Fond has captured the beautiful greenness of cypress leaves when you break off the tiny buds and rub them between your fingers. Green, soft, citrusy and zesty. Herbal, fresh, but also earthy and grounded. I've never smelled hinoki wood, but I read that the hinoki tree is a cypress tree, and cypress is definitely what I smell here. There's smoke in here, too, like a distant fire in the woods, with both the fresh smell of the fragrant trees and also the smoky wood from a burn site. The strong hinoki/cypress note dissipates after about an hour, and it becomes more of a traditional woody-musky composition. I really enjoy this scent, it reminds me from top to bottom of our recent trip to northern California and all the different but equally wonderful smells in each of the forests we visited. My husband and I had been wishing those scents could be bottled, so I'm excited to have found a contender :)

Opens with a green, woody soapiness that I find quite captivating. Then it quickly settling into more of a dry, grassy, wood scent - still vaguely green and soapy, but smoother and drier than in the opening. It's basically the very-slightly-masculine version of a 'your skin but better' scent, and I kind of love that about it. I'm a hard sell on woody aromatic fragrances, but there's something about this one that's so beautifully natural, evocative, and unpretentious - like a sense memory of some idle, perfect moment you only half remember. A mid-September heat wave. The laundry room window is wide open to the yard. The spriggy scent of freshly-watered evergreen hedges drifts in, along with the dry, earthy scent of dust on grass. It mingles almost delicately with the clean scent of drying linens. The summer feels stretched out, elastic; an ambient lull.

i purchased the le long frond atomizer EDP after having/loving the rollerball perfume oil. i loved the fragrance and wanted something with more sillage and projection. i am disappointed by the EDP. the difference is subtle but present. all i can say is that the perfume oil is bouba while the EDP is kiki. sharpness amplifies the greenness of the fragrance. almost a melon top note - i agree with the previous reviewer’s comparison to DKNY be delicious. over time it dries down to resemble the woody creaminess that i loved in the oil. close, but still: no cigar. i’ve been layering it with olympic orchids olympic rainforest for a wet cyprus and pine forest. photorealistic

So lovely and natural. Yes, it is soft, but if you spray on both skin and clothes it actually hangs on for a good long while. I disagree that it is a scent that should be relegated to a candle. But then again, one of the ways I liked to "perfume" myself when I was a teen was literally rubbing up into a juniper bush to get the oils onto my skin and clothes. This comes close to that same natural experience, except with cypress instead of juniper. Yes, the bright top notes dissipate after an hour or two, but the woody musky remainder is just lovely. I wear this one when I'm craving nature and calmness.

No. 2 Le Long Fond from Maison Louis Maire smells fresh, cut-grass-mixed-with-wood fresh, when applying on my skin. I really enjoy this unique freshness. Unfortunately, the freshly cut grass note fades in an hour. The remaining herbal cedar notes, although I still love, are so close to the skin and barely detectable. The fragrance and notes I love, but I would love it more and consider a full bottle if the longevity and silliage perform better.

hmm very woody scent. it smells very light and bright, but not in the fruity way. on the paper, i thought it was much sweeter and warm like maybe furniture (which I liked a lot), but on my skin it smells a lot more woody with a hint of herbs. i'm alright with it, i would definitely wear this on a typical day as it just smells very light and inoffensive to me

Smells really nice, clean, its definitely unisex, but SLIGHTLY favors male, (in between unisex and "more male".) It takes a moment to dry down, but once it does, it smells great, clean, hinoki-ey. I was initially interested in this because I wanted something to compliment and extend on my le labo hinoki body wash and lotion, and this does a perfect job.

This is an aromatic wood fantasy, a cool misty hinoki forest. The green spiciness is so well done, many fragrances with this accord lean towards extreme axe vibes, but No.02 is running circles around them. A forest wizard with a pet Iguana would wear this. One of the more masculine scents from this house. Would definitely but a full size bottle.

Definitely getting the hinoki, but also a strong green citrus element like you would get from crushing the leaves and not just the wood elements. It adds a sharpness that lingers (might be bergamot and javanol), which gives it more longevity than most Hinoki scents, but decreases my enjoyment the longer I wear it. Liked it more on first sniff.

This is the perfume I wear when I want my nose to take a break. Very natural and easy, a fresh wooded forest with air that has been cleaned by a recent rainstorm. Le Long Fond is a palate cleanser. After wearing some heavy hitters, this is the perfect mid week perfume antidote.

nice woody skin scent. sweet in an understated and earthy way - warm dirt. i really enjoy this one, although i wish the longevity was better. may purchase a bottle, or try out the oil.
