No.09 Vallée de Farney

There are a couple of reasons I almost didn't get this, the first of which is that I don't like rollerballs, but I didn't want something larger than the 3ml sampler. Secondly, the complaints about this smelling like an old man nearly scared me off...but I had a great gut feeling and I'm glad that I heeded my hunch, because I think this is beautiful. It's definitely more traditionally masculine, but I don't mind wearing some male things if they're not overly "blue" or full of bay rum. I don't feel uncomfortable in the slightest wearing this. In fact, I'm wearing a dark olive colored shirt, and it matches the synesthetic impression I have with this scent, it's a dark green. This is just really heavy on the vetiver, so it smells rustic and outdoorsy. However, the grapefruit included alongside the vetiver (these two notes are made for each other, it's almost unbelievable how well they pair) is absolutely perfect. There's a bit of geranium too, which clearly emerges distinctly, though I cannot claim the same for the rest of the notes here. *HOWEVER *; the issue might be my nose, because vetiver feels peppery to me anyway (I sometimes like using straight essential oil, and it has a peppery quality). If black pepper is here, it's deployed in a genius manner, because it doesn't overpower anything and helps to assist the vetiver, which is clear the centerpiece of this composition. Same with the patchouli, it's a supporting feature and it doesn't jut out even as this dries down. This is just...evocative to me, which is a determining factor sometimes between me loving a fragrance or merely liking one. This is grounding and naturalistic, I think of a chilly breeze during Indian summer, toward the end of September. It's cleansing to the palate, and it's going to be perfect for me if I'm ever weary of gourmonds. It's also quite gorgeous on my skin...if I do say so myself, it works with my chemistry. I love things like this. Beautiful perfumery without smelling overly complex nor overly blended and *perfume-y* (though I like that style too sometimes), it puts my mind at ease. 💚🤎💚🤎

Niche quality Terre d'hermes... Kind of a high quality mix of TdH and TdH Eau Fraîche. I really like it! I'll write more later as it develops

My favorite of the Maison Louis Marie line. It reminds me of a men’s soap I once bought at Target because it had an intoxicating wet stony salty smell when dry (orris? vetiver?), but I never used it because it smelled like aftershave once wet. This has the wet salty smell, but doesn’t turn into aftershave! I guess that’s what’s being called “mineral” in the description. It feels pretty gender non-specific when you first roll it on, but after time as the vetiver and cedar rise to prominence it takes on a more manly cast. It lasts a long time on me. My concern is that while I like the overall scent, I often feel that the wrong note dominates at the wrong time. It doesn't feel perfectly calibrated and balanced like a proper perfume should, at least not on me. It has the more thrown-together feeling of a home scent. But in closing I will add that thanks to its oil formulation, this scent never feels like too much or too perfumey, which might be a reason to choose this over a more well-balanced alcohol-based scent.

Oil Rollerball Version: Soapier and richer than spray version. I get a little more citrus. I can smell the actual oil in this, so it's not as great up close (until it melds into my skin more). Application creates a really lovely scent bubble to enjoy all day (9-5!). Consistent and linear throughout the day. Spray Version: A little sweeter, but not as smooth as the oil. Green, fresh and still really lovely. Truly unisex scent in both forms. I love the geranium. Light and airy. I get a slightly leathery note...? (Not sure which notes combo is doing it). Really beautiful up close. Both are clean and woody. I'll have to wear more often to figure the seasons and which form I prefer. The little roller version is perfect for carrying around with you, and I love the simple packaging.

I am really glad I decided to purchase this scent. I was looking for a rollerball of something more unisex, that I could wear in a variety of situations. This oil rollerball is gorgeous, in my opinion. Something about it just cuts through and grabs you attention instantly. Very spicy, bright, and clean. It does start out more unisex, with the grapefruit and citrus on the top. But, as it warms up to the skin, it does lean a little more masculinely. The woodsy smells do shine after a half hour or so. However, I would never say a woman couldn't wear this scent. In fact, I think this scent would be magnetic and powerful as a feminine fragrance. I love how versatile this scent is, and it's quickly becoming my "daily driver".

I find Vallée de Farney to be a delightfully subtle perfume that sits squarely in the unisex zone. Green citrus and vetiver notes hit first sustained by the cedar, with a lovely floral patchouli musk emerging some time after the dry down. Now that I'm in a clinical environment, I've been trying to find perfumes that are quiet in their presentation so I can get away with wearing perfume in a borderline fragrance-free workplace. I initially thought that No. 9 would qualify, but that floral patchouli musk lingers in a way that is enticing present. Not quite as soft as I hoped, but no one called me out on it. I'll keep chancing it ;).

I really liked this fragrance. one the few fresh green fragrances i actually tolerate. The opening is a very nice bright citrus fragrance, a beautiful grapefruit, with a hint of green probably vetiver. weirdly enough there was a lettuce quality to it, in a good way, it was this mild delicious summary garden vibe. The base of this fragrance had a little hint of sandalwood and patchouli. It bloomed a little note of floral musk which was beautiful with the citrus. this fragrance was made very well, blended so well everything played together so well, so smooth. I'd give this a 7/10 light, fun, green, and fresh fragrance.

Grapefruit and pepper in the opening, drying down to a cedar and vetiver base. There’s a mentholated, almost dusty aspect to the drydown which I think is the geranium peeking through. When I sprayed No. 9 I noticed an oily sheen on my skin from the in store decant of the EDP, which I think is a sign that quality ingredients were used and contributes to the very good performance on my dry skin: 3 hours or more before it stops projecting. I like it.

Lightly spiced citrus on a summery woodsy base. Bright and inoffensive, good for hot weather, settles nicely on sun warmed skin. Can lean a little soapy/cleaning product’y if you’re sensitive to that, but I really like a clean scent. Very neutral, nothing “wow”, but worth it for the price point

it’s ok! mostly grapefruit, but the peppery notes and vetiver hold it down to help it last longer. if you want a natural perfume oil that still has some zest, I think you’ll like it

Very well blended perfume. Smelled very high quality. But I just wasn't 100% of it so I decided to pass.

This is a less blended version of Terre d'Hermes, leans more citrus cleaning product.

At first, I was feral for this scent. It's herbal and reminded me of a massage oil. And it lasts SO LONG for a roll-on. 10-12 hours with great projection! But unfortunately after wearing it a few times, it became too soapy for me. If you like a squeaky clean soap bar scent, you would love this!

It's a bit too green for me. It smells very fresh, but for my taste I like to layer it with something with some deeper notes. I don't care for it on it's own.

I got a sample of the perfume oil...grassy green fragrance, low sillage and nothing special. I've smelled much better green fragrances. I won't be buying a full bottle.

This smells like Prell shampoo. If you like "clean" scents this one is a good one to try. It just isn't my cup of tea.

With No.04 hogging so much of the Maison Louis Marie spotlight, Vallee de Farney (or No.09 to all us philistines), is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. It is my first foray into perfume oils, and perfect for someone on the fence about trying them. My favorite thing about No.09 is it's wonderful sense of balance. Sure it's a "citrus" fragrance, emanating deep grapefruit and orange, but the woods, pepper, and musk keep it from becoming overly cheerful. It's unpretentious and very versatile. I like it on a gloomy day, as the citrus adds a little optimism alongside the darker, more pensive notes. No.09 is strikingly similar to Terre de'Hermes pour homme, so it does lose a few points for originality. That being said, the idea of Hermes in a high quality oil concentration is sure to be enticing. Agreeable without being generic, heavily complimented, and my favorite in their lineup. I'll have to try the candle next.

Love this. I have the eau de parfum, the perfume, and the roll on oil. I get compliments ALL THE TIME! A man stopped me on the subway because he wanted to buy it for his wife. It's not over powering and I can rarely smell it on myself but it lingers. Almost reminds me of Molecule 01 and how every now and then you catch a whiff...that happens with this one too. I just love it and don't see myself ever wearing anything else.

This really surprised me! I bought the oil discovery set from Sephora because I was interested in Bois de Balincourt and Le Long Fond, but THIS one is by far my favorite. It is slightly citrusy but only in that it lends a brightness to the scent. It's otherwise beautifully spicy/peppery with a hint of wood. Nice silage but I did lightly reapply, even the oil, after 4 hrs.

The notes sound like heaven..... However, in person, the scent smells like an old-school men’s cologne with a little aquatic sweetness added. I really can’t smell any of the notes listed and I’m pretty well-versed in fragrance. Pitty, I thought I would love this.
