At The Barber's

This has cracked into my top 10 fave scents and I love this scent and just barbershop fragrances in general !! At the barbers opens up very herbal,musky,green,sharp and loud and in that first 30 minutes on my skin is a room filler beastly scent !! In fact, for those reasons I avoid any public settings where I’m in close proximity of people as I can see this being abrasive ! Also in the opening I sense a mix between Drakkar noir and Platinum Egoist However once this dries down the the magic really starts with this and it becomes a much more subtle scent that is very reminiscent of the smells you get from the barbershop with the mix of high quality shaving cream,hair product and those expensive leather seats ! At this stage it really embodies the smell and VIBE of a barber shop rather than smelling like a barbershop scent itself. The drydown is pretty much the same except it does down to a very nice skin scent that is still very pleasant and aromatic but then the tonka bean comes in making this even more smooth and even slightly creamy. The drydown is by far my favorite part as all the harshness has died down and it’s just extremely pleasing to the nose and to all age ranges as well. (This could be a negative to those hoping for a more brash,intense type of barbershop fragrance experience) but for me with barbershop scents I like them to be more subtle and gentlemanly rather than super aggressive and bold. Performance on this is great as it lasts 8-12 hours but keep in mind after 3 hours it’s a skin scent but will come alive in high temperatures and when you move around. Sillage is only light but noticeable after an hour and not super thick but rather airy and light. Overall rating -8.5 out of 10 !! A superb scent that is easily my most complimented in terms of barbershop scents and has been well received by all ages as well and not just mature noses. A beautiful blend of both old school and modern style barbershop styles scents.

Uff This perfume is something beautiful. At the barbers It's morning . Late spring, buds are visible on leafy trees. It is cool and the dew collects on the grass and flowers. Slicked hair and dark sunglasses, a newspaper under his arm and a croissant with butter in his other hand. He is biting and chewing a croissant and the crumbs remain on his lips, the smell of coffee can be felt on his breath. He pushes open the brass door and enters the simple barbershop. One barber is already shaving a customer, while another turns a large brown leather chair and invites him to sit down. He sits down and the ritual begins... The barber puts a warm towel on his face, then expertly whips up shaving cream in a wooden bowl. After a few minutes he removes the warm towel from his face and applies shaving cream. A razor flies across his face while Italian music plays on the radio. The smell of the barbershop. The smell of leather, the smell of expensive shaving cream. A creamy powdery fragrance, fresh, full of optimism and lavender. Citrus is present in the background at least for me, but spices like pepper are felt. Moss and tonka beans are there... everything exudes masculinity and purity. A perfume that you can wear anytime and anywhere. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 7/10 Performance of the perfume - its duration is usually more than 8 hours or more, it depends on the weather conditions, it stays on the clothes even longer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 Perfume rating - in my opinion, this perfume can never leave my collection. Beautiful and wonderful, which makes you want to smell it on your skin.

So modern Sauvage walks into a barbershop...I really like this and I can give a reason based off my appreciation for wet shaving. So this is spicy off the top, with an old school shaving soap vibe, if I were to put my thumb on the final modern twist, is at the dry down this has a strong resemblance to the Gillette blue shaving gel. Really any of the blue gel, and you can even include the blue gel calming aftershave. Now, the scent is more complex than that, it is just there in the base if you take it in. This is a great clean scent, they nailed barbershop. Projects ok and longevity is decent, would wear this in the spring and fall in my opinion. Suitable for any age really, as I find it shares a small hint of Sauvage to bridge the generation gap. Do not blind buy unless you get a sample or the 10ml travel size first, a little pricey and specific in character for most I suspect. Thanks for the read, hope this was helpful.

I was sold at first whiff! Having never owned any niche fragrances before this, I'm glad I managed to come across this beauty before taking dabs that a ways. Some have considered this to be of semi-niche designer quality. And it is sooo addictive, I can't stop smelling it! It is not so much of a barber type fragrance, but it captures the nuances of it in a very sophisticated manner. I like how this and the rest of the Replica range doesn't possess the offensive sillage of the usual beastly niche fragrances. The layers are extremely impressive and well thought out, but the sillage remains mindful of it's space at the same time. Why would we want to attract unwanted attention? I had also recently purchased Lazy Sunday Morning for the girlie, never regretted it, and I practically jump to have a quick snog every time she passes by LOL! Impressive work by Louise Turner. I believe, ATB will be my new signature scent!

I have to chime in, only to make it clear that this does not smell like.... Drakkar Rive Gauche Azzaro It does have some herbal aspects like.... Channel Platinum Egoiste Eternity I worry that people might expect one thing, but then get something completely different based on the comparisons. This is more modern than the Fougere Classics, and lacks the creamy smooth characters of the top listed comparisons. I regret referencing a modern Sauvage twist in my last review, it smells nothing like Sauvage, but has a peppery opening and modern vibe that separates it from old school barbershop style frags. I really enjoy this offering, but the price has gone up significantly, it has a small hint of Gillette blue cooling gel or blue gel shaving foam whatever that is scent wise??? Anyhow, if you are curious about this one I highly recommend a sample first, do not blind buy based off our comparisons. Thanks Again

Classic and quintessential barbershop. I finally found a bottle after searching for it as it’s discontinued and it is an excellent take on this kind of fragrance. Vintage Minty, leathery , mossy and what seems to me a sharp modern backend that makes this more up to date than something like Egoiste Platinum. It has a slight resemblance to Rive Gauche pour Homme but it’s lighter , brighter and doesn’t have that metallic facet that made RGPH so famous. Interestingly this has a strong pepper to it which reminds me of Sauvage EdT / EdP (just that clean, peppery note, not the rest). So you can understand this is a much more modern, and clean, take on a classic barbershop scent. Great stuff even if it’s not reinventing the wheel. I get why it got (sadly) discontinued since margielas fragrances seem to usually be more unique concepts. Maybe the customer base was not looking for more vintage barbershops.

I absolutely love this fragrance. It's so beautifully blended and balanced. The scent of a true gentleman, with a slightly more modern take. It's softer than some of the known powerhouses in the barbershop or aromatic fougere categories, but I like that. That's not to say you can't smell it, it's just that it's polite about it, if that makes sense. I had wanted to try it for so long before realizing it had been discontinued. I happened to find a bottle for sale locally at a great price, and wow - SO glad I did! It's a shame they stopped making this. There is a similarity to Platinum Egoiste, which I have and really like a lot. But as I mentioned, this is a little softer and more refined. I honestly can't see anyone thinking this doesn't smell nice. If you are a fan of barbershop or aromatic fougere scents, you need to try this. A masterpiece in my book.

A warm sophisticated leathery soap. My boyfriend's favourite fragrance. It is very classy to me and classic. |It doesn't break any records for uniqueness but it is really good at what is does, and has excellent longevity for an EDT. Projection is decent too. It is very comforting and warm, with a distinct soap smell after a while. But it is definitely a masculine scent with the leathery notes balancing that clean soap. It gives off big d*** energy, because it doesn't try to be too hard or announce itself. It's also not something you come across day to day on men unlike Sauvage or Bleu de Chanel (which I like don't get me wrong). But this is just for the grown men out there (you won’t catch little boys wearing this). Is it just effortlessly sexy and masculine. If young men out there are wanting to feel more grown then they should definitely get this.

Sampled today. Reminds me of little bit like Drakkar Noir. I didn't much like it at first but it has definitely grown on me. What I like most is that is not so over powering with that old man smell like most Barber Shop scents. It's a little pricey for what it is, but worth it. I'll be picking up a bottle. UPDATE: Just picked up a new bottle of Drakkar Noir and "At The Barber's" is very similar. The new Drakkar doesn't last as long as ATB and Drakkar has a citrus blast at the beginning. If you're on a budget, just get Drakkar. ATB is a far superior smell and smoother than Drakkar. I give At The Barber's 8/10. It's more for the older crowd. Not a young buck's scent. I don't think your average 20 year old would appreciate this scent. IMO. However I did wear Drakkar Noir in 93' when I was 13.

The perfume opens up with a heavy hint of Basil, Rosemary and Lavender which makes it super spicy and fresh, but it lasts about 30 seconds, and the notes tune down after. 10 minutes after you apply it, the muskiness starts to come through along with heavy lavender and a little mossy. After an hour, the scent becomes very lavender musky and mossy heavy which it becomes this fresh and spicy sexy, but a little bit dark, barber fragrance. Honestly, this perfume has the X factor and is an all around versatile during fall, summer and spring mostly during the day, but you could rock it during the night if you wear something casual like a buttoned up shirt with some shorts and a freshly cut hair. This is a barber scent perfected! Performance: 8/10 Price: 8.1/10 Smell: 10/10

Margiela's Replica At the Barber is both what I had expected and not. There's a fairly green opening, and soon, something a little metallic in there as the lavender and then the musk starts to dominate, but as it dries down, it becomes more vague and atmospheric, and I mean that in a good way: it's like the atmosphere of the barber's rather than a cologne, if you know what I mean. It's not actually a traditional fougère, rather it is what it says - a replica of the scent of the barbershop, which includes that type of scent but isn't the only aspect. I really like it, and I think it's one of the few of the Replica range that actually achieves its goal of creating the impression of a memory. Maybe the barbershop was an easy target, but this still hits the bullseye.

So nice. I get the sense of being a dapper little kid who feels all grown up because the barber put Brylcreem in my hair before I get my picture taken at Sears. Interesting to see the comparisons to Drakkar Noir. I used to love it, but I've become a little sensitive to lavender, so I don't think I can wear it anymore. (Same with Montblanc Legend) The lavender doesn't seem quite as front and center here, so I think I can get away with At the Barber's as long as I'm spare with it. If I remember Drakkar Noir correctly, At the Barber's is also sweeter as well as fresher and cleaner. Very comforting and evocative. This is the second Martin Margiela I've tried after Jazz Club, and their fragrances make me happy. I would wear this again.

My first love. Now I must move on due to your discontinuation. I religiously wore this fragrance as a young collegiate adult. What is there not to like. A demi-fougere with simple herbs, leather, and citrus. It does lean soapy due to its use of white/clean musk. Hence why I've labeled it as demi-fougere. However, I do not mean to discredit the beauty in its' simplicity. It is bright, light, simple, and clean. It is an all-purpose Swiss army knife that can be worn professionally, casually, and leisurely. It is thoroughly enjoyable for anybody. As it is being discontinued, I would have to move on. I do think Bon Monsieur - Rogue Perfumery, Beau de jour - Tom Ford, and Platinum Egoiste - Chanel. Nonetheless a great entry into fougere

One of the best barbershop fragrances ever. I was fearing this would've been discontinued and I have got bottles of this stuff. I do not like black pepper and especially in fragrances but in this is one, I highly accept. I describe the black pepper in this is like using salt in a recipe - it is needed but when you overuse it, you'll just spoil the whole thing and that is the best way I could describe it - light moderate black pepper. There is some slight soapiness with it, maybe shave soap? There is the leather note and it is not too overbearing. This fragrance is for a man who is calm, relaxed, observant and has zero tolerance to bullsh-t. This is not for the immature. Definitely a 10/10.

This is my second review of At The Barbers. This is a real nice representation of a modern day barbershop fragrance. Spice and leather verses the heavy lavender opening of most fougere / barbershop scents. A more refined modern day Drakkar Noir. For comparisons to other barbershop fragrances. Beau De Jour (my favorite) has way more lavender Rive Gauche is more rich and creamy. At the Barbers is definitely a more dumb reach and wearable barbershop fragrance than the other two. I really enjoy this right out of the shower or during the day with jeans and a white T. Note: I’m 41 and my wife is 42. She usually hates barbershop fragrances because of the old man vide but she likes At the Barbers.

I am a woman and I used to love wearing this fragrance during my early 20s. I told my friend I wanted a fragrance that smelled like cologne and leather to remind me of my dad and she found this for me. I specifically wanted to relive the memory of hugging my dad before church, freshly shaved, wearing his leather jacket. It was perfect! So warm, nostalgic, and beautifully masculine. When I wear it I feel enveloped in a cloud of masculine protection. Funny enough, when I met my husband he didn't like it for himself. He likes to wear fresher scents. I might get a bottle again for myself just for the nostalgia and comfort.

I was not high on this when I first bought it in December 2020. It felt overwhelmingly herbal without enough lavender. It died on my skin very quickly. Fast forward 8 months and I really love it. Either my nose has changed/matured or maceration has smoothed it out dramatically. Performance has also jumped considerably. It projects better and stays on my clothes 24hrs+. It's very refreshing to wear in the heat. Where I live it is over 100F° regularly during summer. This frag is refreshing, clean and cooling. Even more so than Aqua di Parma Colonia Club. Excellent frag for me but the juice needed time to age like wine.

First blast of clean, freshly showered... male. That's it. I can't pick out any other notes except to say that I wish all the guys around me wore this. Evokes images of men in tailored freshly-pressed suits and also Chris Evans in that white cable-knit sweater. I'd say suitable for all weather and all times of day but perhaps a bit too bright and crisp for a night out. Projection is there in the beginning but performance fades pretty fast, on my skin anyway. 6+ hours later: It's mostly gone; honestly, was mostly gone with a couple hours. Would need a constant refresh during the day which makes it overpriced.

To my nose goes in the direction of Guy Laroche ́s Drakkar Noir but a bit more shaving foamy. I think it doesn't project very much, only the first 30 minutes to 1 hour afterwards it comes down to a more personal experience, sitting close to the skin but you can still feel it giving you that boost of confidence. It ́s not the type of fragrance that will give u a tone of compliments, not because it doesnt smell great but because it dont get very noticeable. It ́s a must have if you enjoy that barbershop style of smell and if you're a collector of those sort of fragrances.

This is the first Replica fragrance I have bought and after testing over a couple of months, I love it! I'm still new to the community so I can't pick out individual notes, but this is just a clean barbershop aroma scent with a hint of leather. This is perfect for the hot kitchen I work in. It doesn't project too much and doesn't offend anyone working with me. I get about 7 hours on this fragrance, so I usually reapply between meal periods. I'm not sure I would pay full retail for this scent, but will gladly pay the $80 I spent on it earlier this year. Solid 8.5/10

First tried it in Orlando, 2018. Classic shaving cream. I think the leather undertones give this fragrance some legs that help it linger into 6+ hours. The leather with the seemingly white, frothy shaving cream and warm towels makes a fantastic fragrance. The scent DNA and price would lead one to think this is overpriced, and it is. I just saw they have 1oz of this on some websites. $50 for a 1oz is when I pulled the trigger. Fantastic casual fragrance and for work, but I can see the price being too high for that. I recommend the 1oz. Solid fragrance.

Used to own a bottle and enjoyed it too, but eventually sold it as I felt it reminded me a bit too much of Platinum Egoiste, which I already had at the time. Inevitably, I got rid of that Chanel, and well... coming back to this now, it actually reminds me more of Masculine Pluriel, but without that oiliness and plasticity. Overall airier and easier to wear. In short, yeah, it's a bit of a lot of things... barbershop, shaving foam, talc powder, Masculine Pluriel, Rive Gauche, Beau de Jou.... all that jazz.

Perhaps the best of all barbershop colognes. Next to Fougere D'Argent (which is more barbershop + dense forest). As with most every MM perfume, the name is accurate. No confusing description; just smells like you're sitting in a barbershop. I guess if you had to go stronger than this, you would just get Chanel's Platinum Egoiste. But PE is different, and this is better. Inoffensive, masculine, and timeless. Barbershop colognes have a tendency to feel dated, but this is good.

It took me some time to let this fragrance get to me but once it did IT DID. It smells like a fresh shave in the barber shop but not in a Colonia type of way but more like a creamy shaving cream type of way. The projection is not shy but it is also not room filling, so pretty decent. And honestly I am very biased because I am in love. I feel like this is the fragrance for me and it hurts me so bad that it has been discontinued. Please Maison Margiela bring it back!!!!

I absolutely love this fragrance. The masculine white towel fresh herbal feeling with a leather accord to give it some balls. The way it lingers on clothes is worth the purchase for me. I find it just delivers in cold weather even as a fresh fragrance. I spray this on my Jean jacket and it’s magic. It may smell exactly what you imagine it would, but I recommend. They recently started selling this in a smaller size than the 3.4 ounce, and as a collector it was perfect.

I think that it is a perfect replacement for Rive Gauche. At the Barber’s is modern and very well balanced barbershop scent where for example Beau de Jour is unapologetically herbal and strong on lavender, this one is smooth and much more pleasant. Don’t get me wrong BdJ is great, but personally go my taste Replica is closer to RG which is even superior. I don’t think that it is discontinued, it is available on many places and also on the Margiela website.

This is very nice. Aromatic and fresh and put together. Yes it's barbershoppy but I'm not getting shaving foam off it. Nothing complex or deep but sometimes you just want something to smell good and make you feel ready for the day. A shame it's discontinued, will have to look elsewhere. I actually slightly prefer this to platinum egoiste but that's probably the closest fit I've come across so far. Also, for some reason this strongly reminds me of Percival.

I love this scent and it's making me sad that I cannot find a legit bottle anywhere. I haven't tried some of the scents that people compare this one to, so I can't speak to that. However, I do think it definitely falls into a barbershop style. I really enjoy the profile and it lasts a good chunk of the day on me and my clothes. You can still get decants of it, but trying to find a bottle is frustrating since there are so many fakes online.

Airy Fresh, like a barbershop dream, well blended and should be a buy for everyone that loves Fougere and barbershop, not to soapy...not to spicy.. mild and soft, perfect for summer and when you want to smell clean in a old aftershave whey wit a modern touch and finess, for those that dont want it to screechy or loud, it smells expensive in a subtle way Good amount off tonka in this tho, so tonka bean haters be Cassius .

Perfume rating 3.81 out of 5 with 1,269 votes?!?!?! Who's kiddin' who? This is hands down one of the best barbershop fragrances, and I've tried the overwhelming majority of them. It's classy while being versatile. It's in the same league as Fougere Royale, Rive Gauche, and Platinum Egoiste. Maybe if people actually believe that insanely low rating for ATB the prices will start to come down. Highly recommend.

Perfect after shower lounge around the house I just want to smell clean fragrance. This also works well for the office. Performance is fine especially given how you should use it. It is not a date night or clubbing fragrance. You wear this for yourself. It doesn’t need to be a beast. It does lounge day to perfection and is decently priced. I will always have a bottle in my collection.

my bartender who looked like a vampire reeked of this sour, slightly spicy scent that was mind blowing... so i naturally asked him the scent after getting way too close and sniffing him, and he said it was some kind of margelia fragrance.... after hunting various websites, i settled on this one and wrote it in my notes app for future reference...god i miss how his neck smelled

Yep, it's a barbershop, alright. Starts with a strong blast of Barbasol shaving cream that's calmed eventually with powdery florals and herbal notes. About a half an hour into it, a hint of vanilla reveals itself as well. One of my absolute favorites from the Replica line. It's not something I'd wear myself, I find it too masculine, but I'd love it on someone else.

Strong opening note of shaving cream that lasts about a half hour before calming down to a lovely warm spicy base. It’s so sexy and inviting. Lavender and Basil are the most dominant notes for me. Definitely leans more masculine but it’s appealing on everyone. New favorite for my wife to wear. Overall 10/10 so many people would love this fragrance.

A good shaving-cream-style scent... Classic feel... Dapper Dan vibes. Sounds like this is discontinued. It's going for around $100 right now, and I assume the price will only climb from here. Although I enjoy it, I don't think it's superior to something like Drakkar Noir which performs better and can be had for a much more reasonable price.

I like it, but then again I like platinum egoist and this is in the same ballpark. Whereas PE is more green, this is more fresh. Don't know why this was discontinued as it's one of the better ones (IMO) from the house. The closest thing to an old school shaving cream scent as you can get but somehow doesn't really smell old fashioned.

If you enjoy wet shaving then you'll probably enjoy this, it's a fresh spicey aromatic soapy fragrance. This smells just like having a range of fine shaving products, pre-shave balms, a nice lathered up shaving cream, some zesty aftershave balms and the full kit of products with just the slightest hint of leather in the background.

At the barbers is exactly what it’s advertised. It smells like you’re at the barber shop and just got a clean shave and a trim. It encapsulates the feeling and confidence you have for the rest of the day. This fragrance smells to me like the best shaving foam you’ve ever smelled. (Such a shame it’s being discontinued)

It smells exactly what is says it smells like. Takes me back to a day at the barbershop in the mid 90's with my father and little brother.My father would always spray us with Drakkar Noir right after the barber was finished. If that's the vibe you like then this is a great choice especially for nostalgia.

Oh I love it, it reminds me of my grandfather. It's almost an exact replica of his aftershave. This review is purely personal, I'm afraid. It's fresh, aquatic, soft, a great soapy fragrance. Probably has the best projection of the Replica's I've tried. Really a simple classic. 7/10

This is the best blind buy gift for a man. I've gifted this to a few men and they've all really liked it. 'At The Barbers' is such a fun and perfect name too. It's that classic and nostalgic mens scent that we've all smelt before. Fresh and clean-cut will never go out of style.

Wonderful stuff. It's not groundbreaking but if you, like me, love the smell of shaving foam and an almost minty freshness then it's a winner. Incredibly clean smelling summer scent. July, Shorts and t-shirt. great Longevity and projection.

Reminds me of several fragrances my dad had back in the 90s. Stuff like Van Cleef Tsar, Platinum Egoiste, Eternity, Drakkar Noir etc. I really love it. This one and Beach Hut Man are probably my two favorite green fragrances at the moment.

This scent reminds me of Penhaligon’s! It is really well blended, and I think it would smell great on any guy. The lavender, basil, and rosemary notes make themselves known, and its really nice and fresh. I find this scent so intriguing!

They really replicated so good the name of the fragrance. My brother handed me a paper with this fragrance without me knowing what fragrance was in the paper, and when I smelled it the first thing that came into my mind was a barbershop

Great everyday freshie if you just want to feel clean and smell like a man. Basically smells like shaving foam in a cologne form. Great on winter months but could be used all year round. pretty much an expensive version of drakkar noir

Smells more like a high quality shaving foam more than an actual barbershop, but is so good! Too bad it is discontinued. Doesn't smell like an aromatic fougere to me. Shame it doesn't last more than 4 hours on my skin.

This a great male on the go fragrance. I really enjoy the smell of an old school barber shop. Just takes me back to the smell of my grandfather taking me to the local shop. I can see this worn on a nice summer day.

Really love this stuff, discontinued I believe, so I use it sparingly. Great longevity for me about 7 hrs till its a faint memory. I agree with the comment below mine, fresh & clean cut never goes out of style.
