Celestial Whispers

Three words: Evil dark laundry 🌌 Me and a couple of my friends smelt a few in store. This one by far blew my mind away. Me and my friend have the consensual opinion that Maison Margiela is a brilliant brand. It seems to capture moments and emotion in an extremely unique and cool way. Now onto the fragrance. There were definitely more nice-smelling and certainly more wearable fragrances, such as chasing sunsets and never ending summer. However there was something about this that was different... On first whiff, this blew my mind away. It was this surreal moment of shock and amazement. This gives an extraterrestrial, night time feel- as the name suggests. The image for the fragrance perfectly capitulates the feeling this fragrance gives. And I know that sounds super gimmicky but genuinely trust me- you NEED to get your nose on this. The uniqueness of this was awe-striking and I cannot exaggerate this enough. Now onto the actual smell rather than just the experience. My friend said it smells like a ‘dark, evil laundry’ and honestly- that’s exactly right. Super cool, super weird, super obscure. This is what I think frag houses on the higher end should be about- uniqueness and obscurity. This is exactly where Margiela shines and in particular this one. The only issue I really have with this is the fact that there aren’t smaller sizes- only 100ml. As compared to other Margiela’s with 60ml and 30ml options, sadly this one doesn’t. It’s not exactly wearable so not having those smaller sized options is unfortunate. Wearability- 2.7/10 Uniqueness- 10/10 I don’t think anyone could really pull this off. It’s not necessarily a bad smell but I don’t think it’s honestly meant to be worn. That’s why I’ve rated it low. Rather it’s an experience and honestly that’s what I think higher end brands should go for. Truly unreal-try it if you can! Celestial Whispers 🌌🌌🌌

Testing Celestial Whispers from a 1.2 ml Maison Margiela official sample. Since the day I have found out about the release of Celestial Whispers, I wanted to get my nose on it. I am a huge incense fan and the opposition of contrasting notes in perfumes always makes my heart beat faster. In this scent, incense paired with aldehydes deeply intrigued me. Happy to report that I am not disappointed in the slightest with Celestial Whispers! It is deeply incensy, balsamic, ambery and warm while retaining the crisp, fresh, soapy aspect from the aldehydes and smells beautifully and intriguing. From the latest MM launches of the last three years, Celestial Whispers is my most favourite to be honest. Afternoon Delight is nice but fairly predictable and unoriginal while Never-ending Summer was a total flop for me. Celestial Whispers is certainly more niche and different smelling than the ones mentioned above, but if you like a cold type of incense, it could be your perfect Maison Margiela perfume. It’s out there without being unwearable, it’s long lasting without being obnoxious and it’s reasonably priced IMO for the quality you get. If something on the unique side of perfumery doesn’t scare you (neither does incense, nor aldehydes), go to your Sephora and get your nose on this. It’s something else and it’s good! I would buy Celestial Whispers, I really like it.

this fragrance is personal to me. when i was in high school, there was a lowkey witchy crystal store called 'stargazers' that i frequented, often going after class or skipping it altogether just to be there. this place was small and sandwiched between an industrial site and a tutoring center but it took me out of the real world everytime. i have a vivid memory of one of the shopkeepers playing three of these large (the size of a child) selenite singing bowls spread throughout the store in unison as if to make them harmonize with each other. it felt like a spiritual earthquake. this store had an incredible assortment of esoterica, among them a wide range of incense, candles, and herbal blends. the second i smelt 'celestial whispers' it immediately took me back to this store. magic and nostalgia are the words that come to me when i smell this scent. it's incense and myrrh heavy with a fog of sweetness to it. not a smell for everybody but i think it's something special.

Take me to church... 🎵🤩 So happy with this one! It was a blind buy and was scared that it would be similar to Montale's full incense (which I can't stand), but it's not 🥰 Yes, it's definitely incense and it dominates the fragrance but it's soft and cozy incense, not "can't breathe cause the incense is choking me incense"😅 It evokes etheral feelings so the name is spot on. It has a simple not breakdown but it doesn't need more. I don't find it lacking in complexity or anything. Really lovely for what it is. It is unisex so anyone can wear it. I think this will be my new favourite incense forward fragrance. So cozy!

I must say it feels deeply personal, almost godly. There’s something profoundly spiritual about it, like a protective embrace. I think it’s the incense note that creates this sacred, comforting feeling. This fragrance definitively immerse yourself in an old cobblestone church with a high humidity in it that's giving a warm comforting affection on your skin. If you’re looking for something esoteric and evocative something that feels like a guardian spirit keeping away dark forces this perfume is absolutely worth trying.

This is well-blended, unique, & intoxicating. It's hard to describe. It smells like sweet & airy incense - incense in a way that doesn't irritate your nose. It's smoky, but in a sweet way. Every intense, heavy note in here is balanced perfectly with a non-cloying sweetness. There's also a haunting element to it (???), but I'm not sure how to describe it other than "haunting." I'm not sure that this is a blind buy, but I'm glad that I bought it blindly lol. It's absolutely worth a try! 9/10

this has become my go to comfort scent; i love incense but i don't like when the note leans too dusty or resinous so this is perfect. the smokiness is very calming, the aldehydic side has this sort of metallic quality to it. It's linear in a zen way. I wear it mostly on days i want to be grounded ; people have told me it smells elegant so that's a nice plus. I have several incense from CDG that i love but celestial whispers is more wearable tbh, also behaves very well in warmer weather

DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS SCENT. CELESTIAL WHISPERS IS A TERRIBLE NAME FOR WHAT THIS IS. TO ME IT SMELLS LIKE THE CRYPT OF AN OLD CATHEDRAL AND AN ANTIQUE STORE IN YOUR FAVORITE EASTERN EUROPEAN CITY. NOT TO BE DRAMATIC BUT IF I COULD MAKE THIS SCENT MY ENTIRE PERSONALITY I WOULD. It does smell like pests spray, and burnt plastic, yes, but only if you think this way. Even I tried it myself I could smell relaxing zen spa incense + inside of wooden sauna with aromas they put in. I've never been interested in incense fragrances, but this changed my perception. Not that annoying cheap incense sticks girls burn in their dorm rooms, but rather spa level zen incense.

I grew up in the mountains, surrounded by coniferous trees, mostly spruce... Maybe that’s why, to me, this smells like wood warmed by the summer sun. It’s beautiful – but it’s a very resinous scent; for some, it might be too intense or even a bit sharp. I agree that it has the vibe of a wooden "steam" sauna.

To me at first it’s reminiscent of black tea with cardamom and dried limes, and a bit of smoke underneath, then later evolves to amber. Overall lovely and comforting fragrance that doesn’t shy away from being noticed. Definitely unisex

Absolutely gorgeous sparkly yet realistic and mysterious incense. Surprised to see how polarizing it is, to me this is one of the greatest incense frags I’ve gotten my nose on, so interesting and different.

I was looking for a scent like this for a long time - it smells like an old church where a corpse lies in the middle and incense is burning near the head.

Hmmm interesting so i tried this in store knowing it was an incense scent. I tried it and thought oh okay it is what you would rly think of an incense perfume but a little fresh and aldehydic. True enough! It really is incense and aldehydes. I like it because I love incense scents but a lot I’ve tried lean really dark sticky or smoky. Like the added dimension thrown in with incense is usually to nudge it sweeter or send it deep into church. There’s both a sweetness and i suppose sacredness still here but the added dimension it does bring is a fresh airiness. This feels like a fresh almost sporty incense on my skin. Tho if there’s another incense scent out there where the freshness can be pushed further that might be more my jam Reading all the reviews below go try it for yourself. This isn’t super revolutionary but this is in a way a blend of incense I’ve been after. A lot of great mindblowing incense fragrances out there but for what I seek in my wardrobe I might be down to get this tbh.

It is the most unique thing I've ever smelt. I would describe it as what I think that a witch would probably smell like. Its like I am in silent hill whenever I get a whiff of it, I don't know what audience it can possibly target but its a smell that evokes memories of an uncanny dream. The smell itself is something I can't even rate out of 10 but its certainly not worth the price, I would however say that I do quite like it and I will always get a sample when I can because the smell is so magical.

First whiff of this, didn’t like it. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of aldehydes in fragrance. Came off as a masculine scent, smelled off putting and weird. Grew to like it as I kept sniffing it. Idk where you guys are getting plastic from. On my skin, the dry down was amazing. Smelt just like this Catholic Church from my childhood that my mom used to make me go to. Long lasting on my skin, and I’d definitely wear this during the colder months. Overall 8.5/10.

Blind buy. Absolute beast right off the bat; a familiar incense, but there's something weird and off about it. Something about it is more... rounded out? Not as soft as most incenses (which I can only attribute to the aldehydes). Longevity is decent, though I expected it to be longer due to its beast-moding for the first hour of wear.

I have a tiny tester of this new one I got when getting something else from Nordstrom. When he waved the card in front of my nose and it made its first impression ever, I immediately said "Bubbles". There is an effervescence feeling to the smell from the metallic aldehydes that can remind you of bubbles popping under your nose in the top. There is a subtle perfumed smoky incense note, but its not overwhelming like Oud for Greatness or something like that since there is no oud. It sort of reminds me of a girl that smells good from her shampoo (musk notes) while masking second hand cigarette odor with a perfume. Some of the main notes/DNA in here remind me of Pegasus by PDM a little bit, but it is different. Just a similar creamy undertone vibe. This has strong amber and myrr 'shower gel' scents that are apparent popping out different notes in the dry down. This one holds its own though and I'd get it if it was cheaper.

Aldehydic start with incense, myyrh + iris on sweety cum yum cedarwood base. Lattafa grade synthetics & poor performance. Cool X-Files AI slop graphics. If you like this vibe, but you want to upgrade to better materials and a masterful execution sample Groove Xcape by Xerjoff.

This shit is downright awful. top notes of burnt plastic and middle notes of wet dog. This is what Pyramid Head smells like in silent hill. What the actual hell. very few fragrances have ever repulsed me. This is up there. Please sample before you buy, just prepare a wash cloth before hand.

It smells like old wooden furniture with wood varnish on it, washed and left in the sun with dish soap.And the longevity is annoying long and strong.

I have a sample of this. I've smelled it twice on my skin and once on my boyfriend's, and I've been smelling it throughout the day each time to see how it evolved. I live in southern Europe, so old Catholic churches are everywhere and have been a part of my daily life. I love church scents, I even bought pure olibanum essential oil and olibanum incense for my home. I love this fragrance. It's the most photorealistic church scent I've ever smelled. It's not an incense scent, it's an "I'm in the church and I can smell everything inside" scent. It smells waxy, like church candles, and I can smell the frankincense incense, but it's not smoky. To see if I wasn't imagining things, I put it on my boyfriend's arm and had him smell it. His eyes widened, he confirmed, it's photorealistic inside a church smell (at least a southern Catholic church). He even told me he could smell the cold dampness and old wood furniture. I've seen people comment about the bug spray smell, and I wonder if these people have smelled it in the store where there are a bunch of other smells or what because I haven't noticed any. At this point, I even suspect people are saying this to gatekeep the scent because to me it's amazing. I'll try it again (I always test my samples on clean skin after a shower and spend all day smelling it to see if it lasts and asking friends to smell it for me) and I'll keep the bug spray thing in mind. I also want to see if the longevity is good.

Musky incense stored in a vintage metal box. I don’t really smell the vanilla or any of the other notes described beyond the incense, aldehydes and musk. Not a bad scent, but not really my jam. UPDATE: After wearing it for a couple hours it has dried down to smell like black licorice. I would love to see incense and aldehydes become the gimmick of the fall. Celestial whispers comes out of the bottle with a sweet, resinous, slightly spicy aspect and slowly reveals a blend of plastic and air at its heart. Gossamisa was right that this is evocative of a witch store. Longevity is good. The scent this most reminds me of is #hashtag, another proudly synthetic incense/aldehydes profile, and both of them are marketed with the aim of being gatekept. Revealing #hashtag's name reveals both one's own susceptibility to online word-of-mouth campaigns and the fact that we live in a poorly written cyberpunk YA, while "Celestial Whispers" sounds like you're talking about adaptogenic gummies that don't do anything. I can't believe I'm saying this, but ELDO's copy on this annoys me the least.

Incense overdose. Peaceful like church incense, aldehydes add a little soapy touch. Why did they launch this? why that name? the color of the juice? this is similar to Rien, incense series Kyoto or even Avignon...but somehow watered down and even more synthetic. I don't think this is a bad scent, just redundant. It is not sexy, not feminine, not truly masculine either...it is very...ambiguous, insipidus...boring. If you adore incense scents without much character you may like this. It becomes a skin scent just after a few minutes...I guess that is why is called whispers...but they are not celestial... A sample is enough for me.

I'm not going to quibble. Celestial Whispers is quite a pleasurable incense scent. Is it among my favourites? ...I couldn't say. ...not without making elaborate direct comparisons. (I certainly have a soft spot for Reve d'Ossian) Interesting to think how aldehydes might give resinous incenses more loft and flair. Celestial Whispers also has some sweetness to it, compared to other incense fragrances, ...but it is moderate, ...and not particularly ambery either.

An ok incense, but none of the notes really get a chance to shine here. The aldehydes are too soft and the incense a bit dull. Seems a bit light on the skin ass well with little to no projection. Very disappointing as the bottle and marketing make this seem way more interesting. Pickup any of the comme des garçons incense line which are better and around half the price. If you already have an incense fragrance in your collection you probably don’t need this.

Just got this in the mail. First thought: like wandering around Japan in scent form. Soft trails of incense, reminiscent of Amouage Existence, but warmer and more savory. Like the quiet promise of a good curry down a tucked-away alley.

Same notes as Dior New look 2024 and many upvotes comparing them, but I don't see anyone actually talking about it. Is it truly that similar or are people just voting without comparing?
