Funfair Evening

This is really pretty! I'm usually not a fan of fruity gourmands, but this is so gentle and effortless. It would fit in well as a newer pink juice Guerlain or Mugler. And those are perfume houses I actually respect. The 'genre' of this scent might be conventional but this is still really elegant and sophisticated. Of course being Replica, anything they make that has an ounce of personality or uniqueness must be immediately discontinued. I smell powder (not cloying and overwhelming talcum powder, but a lotiony, creamy powder), pear nectar, licorice and a touch of cinnamon-like spice (this must be star anise!), and a tuberose that doesn't suffer the same fate as the "funeral flowers" feel of other tuberose-heavy fragrances, here it is a gentle and creamy supporting character to all of these light, tropical and slightly spicy sweets. It smells exactly what an aristocratic tea time, with delicate gold-rimmed tea cups and hand painted dusty pastel rosettes, would look like. There are little saucers with oversized whipped sponge cakes with slices of pear on top and a translucent rosewater syrup, and there are also madeleines made from real vanilla extract, and candied orange peels on other little porcelain saucers. There's a breeze from tuberose bulbs nearby that are moving and bending with the wind. All of the desserts and teas are lightly flavored, and are decadent mainly in looks only, which allows you to take your time and eat them all without getting a sugar rush. I am deeply impressed by how expensive and gentle this smells for a "floral fruity gourmand". This is not my genre at all and yet I find myself wanting a full bottle, even for the eye-watering prices on eBay. The drydown is gentle, lotiony and even a little spicy, with a dry and spicy vanilla, soft musks and dewy rose petals. The more Replica fragrances I try, the more I realize that nearly all the good ones are the discontinued ones. I don't know why they do this, as it's made them lose a lot of their credibility nearly overnight. When I first bought Tea Escape with my tiny student savings from Sephora almost a decade ago (for an eye watering $130, they only sold 100ml bottles back then!) I felt incredibly fancy for buying a designer fragrance that was so unlike other department store offerings that it bordered on being considered niche perfumery. How the tides move, sampling something like Sailing Day nowadays smells cheaper than even the pharmacy discount colognes it's imitating.

While candy isn't my thing to eat , i emensly enjoy liquerish and the taste of fennel seeds covered in candy , and this is exactly what funfair evening reminds me of. Anis seeds covered in a sugary shell of candy. Followed by caramel , marsmellows and candied apples. Very much a gourmand fragrance , gorgeous for cooler days but also very suitable in the hot summer. To me this a a great, easy to wear versatile fragrance. Easier to pull of than angel or prada Canada , although prada candy is pretty easy to wear . I like how the Replica line smells quite natural. He must use very goood ingredients in his fragrances. I love that each fragrance takes us to places and memories , that they smell like things we love and enjoy rather than the smell of perfume. There is a time and a place and a mood for each. I like a hefty perfume to go out at night or to dinner. But the Replicas are a great choice for just hanging out , inoffensive and cozy , not very dressy nor classy. Just good fun or delicious aromas that are quite addictive. Love the presentation of the bottles. The apothecary style is well suited for this line. However a lid would be nice for traveling.

Scratch the Santa Monica 1994 statement and replace with Seabrook Island, North Carolina 1940. Yes, Miss Allie and Noah from the Notebook, out in the evening strolling at the fair, her in burgundy wine heels and he in his wool conductor cap. The fair and all it entails brings this scent to life —To Me. This smells Lovely, it’s also very hard to pinpoint the notes as this is just a wonderful concoction. The emerging scent straight out of bottle is quite caramely, marshamallow-y, popcorn-y, and the vanilla is ever soft but boy does it make itself known! Second to these would be the Moroccan Rose, and from the anise you can definitely get a light woody licorice-like aroma, but it’s very faint and delectable. The dry down remained beautiful with warm rich vanilla and Pink roses. The ambroxan unveils itself deliciously with the Tahitian Vanillin and caramel. I’m so into this scent, I don’t have anything like this. I feel like I’m Allie from the Nicholas Sparks Novel when I wear this. LOVE!

Against all other reviews here I must say I liked it a lot, didn't buy it only because it was too expensive and with too little staying power. The reason I like it is simple - it lives up its name: it really gave me the feeling of a funfair evening, romantic and melancholic at the same time. It's a nice evening, you are happy in that moment but there's also a slightly sad feeling because you know it's going to be over soon. Have you ever felt like this? So, as Replica is the point of this collection, I say this perfume does it well. If it's good perfumery or not, I think it depends on the point of view. It's not a masterpiece for its notes or staying power but it smells and feels like it's supposed to.

I really love this fragrance. I suspect it has rounded out over time since this was discontinued several years ago. On me, it is a skin scent that's sweet and creamy, and reminds me of how a newborn baby smells when you nuzzle your nose in their neck. It is on the faint side, but it has longevity. An intimate scent that will only be noticed by others if they come in very close. This is kind of like a distant cousin to Eau Duelle by Diptyque in the way that they're both sweet and subtle without being overpowering gourmands. Eau Duelle is woody vanilla while Funfair Evening is more of a powdery milky caramel.

I‘ve finally put my hands on a bottle of this! It’s just like I remembered it: beautiful and melancholic, exactly like a funfair evening. I really don’t understand why they discontinued this fragrance, it’s just perfect. It smells of cotton sugar, anis, caramel and baby powder (in this order). Ok if I have to find a negative point: there is really a lot of anis. It reminded me of Poison Girl. Poison Girl is like the supermarket version of it.

This scent is what led me to Fragrantica website. I never use it because I don’t want to run out and was looking for dupes. It has sweetness and caramel popcorn that’s not juvenile. I wore it on my trip to Disneyland after I got married so it’s special to me. Last a decent amount of time and has moderate projection that fades over time. I love it and I’m sad it was discontinued because I have not found anything else like it.

This smells very weird at first and is more astringent with a slight undertone of sweetness. BUT- when you get wafts of it in the wind 💨 it smells GREAT! It IS sweet and caramel like it’s actually heavenly in the wind! it smells better from afar. I’ve come to really love it ❤️ this is amazingly sweet, scrumptious and highly addictive! I can’t get enough... it’s best in fall weather from my experience.

Maison Margiela Replica Funfair Evening smells like a faded carnival memory wrapped in sugar and warm skin. It opens playful and sweet, like cotton candy and flashing lights, then softens into a cozy, slightly musky glow. Less “statement fragrance,” more “nostalgic mood you can spray on.” Fun, a little emotional, and quietly addictive without trying too hard.

I LOVE this perfume! I've never smelled anything like it; it's sweet but unique. The addition of anise to the marshmallow and caramel makes it a more unusual gourmand. When I spritz this on, I can't stop sniffing my wrist! Funfair Evening seems to get a lot of mixed reviews, but to each their own and I really enjoy it.

I love this. If you're looking for a cotton candy fragrance that is still pleasant and inoffensive for the most part, you have to try this. I smell cotton candy with sweet tarts and fruit. The perfume does not smell cheap like most sweet fragrances. It is a bit overpriced though. I don't smell anise, thank God.

Smells like FUN. I adore Maison Margiela ... and I love this one. A scent of candied appels, candy floss, popcorn and rollercoasters and licorice. Feminine, humorous, out there and sceaming Happy times and Happy memories of childhood, laughing and just beeing alive. Longevity and silage definetely ok.

Very nice. Less harsh than I expected, Foxcroft Fairgrounds by Solstice Scents for example is way more out there than this. This is a soft fluffy blanket of red apple, marshmallows, orange blossom and anise. Pleasing. I would really like to smell this on a guy.

My all-time favorite Replica Fragrance. If anyone has one to trade, please contact me. I can't find it anywhere that's fairly priced. Ty!!

Category: White floral, sweet, musky (clean/conditioner) Notes: Holy orange blossom, Batman! I'm getting pretty much JUST orange blossom, at best maybe a bit of neroli. Overall this is a pungent, white floral. After some time this does develop a slightly musky quality (clean musk as in conditioner or detergent) as well as a mild vanilla, but I'm not picking up on any caramel or star anise. Vibe: Orange blossom water. Blooming citrus trees. Hot summer evenings. Beach bonfire. Star-gazing. Short-shorts. Walking barefoot on hot pavement. Clean clothes hanging on a clothing line. Expensive conditioner. Brown, silky hair. Sun-kissed skin. Freckles. Sillage: 7/10. Pretty decent sillage, not obnoxious but definitely not shy. It has better projection than a lot of Maison Margiela’s Replica line fragrances. Longevity: 5/10. Lasts about 6 hours on skin. Would honestly have liked to see better longevity from this, one of the poorer performances from the Replica line fragrances. Wear: Personally I think this is best reserved for hot summer nights. Or vacay evenings if you're traveling to a sunny destination. Although this isn't too loud, I think this is a little too heavy for office wear with the pungent white florals. Unisex, leaning feminine. Overall rating: 5.5/10. This was not at all what I expected. As a licorice hater I was really worried about this one considering the supposedly prominent star anise note, but thankfully I can’t even catch a lick of licorice or anise in this composition. It starts as a straight forward and photorealistic orange blossom and develops into a sweet, musky floral vanilla. Very pungent, heavy and sweet, it reminds me of the smell of citrus tree blooms wafting in the night breeze. This is a hot evening/tepid night kind of perfume, perfect for star-gazing, late night beach bonfires or a summer evening walk. It has a mildly soapy quality to it, likely from the musk, that gets stronger the longer it stays on, giving it a clean, expensive deep conditioner kind of quality. It is frankly quite similar to Reminiscence Mi Fa but way more appealing. It's enticing, dreamy and cute and while I really do like it, the fact that it is the kind of scent to make sense only within very strict confines (hot summer night ONLY for me) unfortunately docks a lot of points off of my overall rating due to lack of versatility. The poor longevity is also a factor as to why this didn’t get a higher rating, as I expect at least a good 8 hours out of a perfume at this price point. If you struggle with sweet fragrances I would probably steer clear of this one as it can easily become overwhelming, but I also want to point out this is by no means a gourmand - nothing about this smells edible. Would definitely consider adding to the collection if I found it at a good deal. Who would wear it?: Ana de Armas.

First thought when smelling Funfair Evening: "Smells like a simplified Bertrand Douchaufour creation for L'artisan." Second thought: "Creme brulee and star anise..." which lead to the third thought: "Bond No 9 Lexington Avenue minus cardamom + swirls of cotton candy." I like it. A lot. It isn't as quirky as you might expect from a carnival themed fragrance, but it smells so very good. It's a lovely, not overly sweet gourmand with florals and a hint of spice. It has more creative flair than the other Replicas, in my opinion. Actually it's the most unique of them all. I've learned to keep my expectations in check when it comes to Maison Margiela fragrances because even though I love their marketing & bottle design and the idea of replicating times and places through scent, they're all fairly simple, without a lot of depth and the drydowns can tend to bum me out a little bit. Fortunately, Funfair Eve avoids these pitfalls and doesn't turn straight vanilla or caramel after an hour. Yay! It isn't mind blowing, but it has character and charm, and it retains most of its structure from the mid to deep dry down, which makes me so happy. It has a niche quality and nothing else quite smells like it. It does indeed capture the essence of many familiar and yummy aromas you might encounter at a carnival, but it does so in a wearable, approachable way. Longevity is great for a Replica. I get almost a full day of lingering scent on my skin with one good application, continually catching whiffs in the most perfect way. From a distance it can smell like fluffy orange blossom laundry, freshly spun cotton candy, or root beer. Or a combination of all three. It's fascinating and absolutely lovely. Edit: The more I wear it the more I can't get enough of it. It's tied with Lipstick On as my favorite Replica, and it's one of the only fragrances atm that I want to keep smelling and wearing day after day. The floral heart makes it special; it's what elevates the fragrance and makes it versatile. I got a backup to relieve myself the worry of going through it too quickly. It's incredible. They left a hole in the line when they discontinued it.

This scent has a rather bad reputation. Not many are positive towards it. I can sort of understand why. It has a very sweet and intense smell. Luckily for me my skin handles sweetness very well. I kind of like this one. Funfair Eveneing is a concoction of sweet candy notes like marshmallow, caramel, cotton candy, candied apple and candied violets (I believe the candied violet note is a result of the combination of orange blossom and star anise, because it is not listed as a note). An intense, playful and fun gourmand that makes you feel like you are in a candy shop - or at a Funfair at Santa Monica Pier in 1994 (which is the inspiration for this scent). It has a slight musky vibe, although musk is not listed amongst the ingredients. This might also be the combination of orange blossom and star anise, or maybe orange blossom and marshmallow. I lean towards the latter. It reminds me a bit about the musk note in BodyShops White Musk Libertine by Leona Lewis. Also a very sweet gourmand with candy notes. I think Funfair Evening would work well as a playful, yet cozy and relaxed summer evening fragrance. Can't wait for the weather to become warmer. The only downside, for me, is that the scent doesn't last that long. It has great sillage when it's there, but it's almost all gone after about 4 hours. Just a faint whiff of red apple is left.

As one who has been to the Santa Monica pier many times, I was a little disappointed that Funfair did not have any marine notes. I wish the white florals were more prominent, as star jasmine is everywhere in the area in spring and into early summer, and it's quite potent. I also wish there was a hint of tobacco, since fairs often smell like cigarette smoke and kettle corn. Yet I don't dislike this fragrance. It's a good subtle gourmand, light enough for warm days. The price is pretty hefty for what it is. Try not to pay full price for this one. Also, don't combine it with Beach Walk like I did. Blech. Addendum: wore this on a rare cold and rainy May Day. The white florals are much more prominent. Still no star jasmine though. Might layer it with Pacifica Star Jasmine (even though that fragrance doesn't quite get the exact scent right, either). If anything, it smells much more like Disneyland than Santa Monica pier, minus the unpleasant smells you often find among crowds of people on a hot day. Add in the scent of churros and waffle cones and it would be a truer replica of "the happiest place on earth."

My first impression is that this is perfect. Soda and spice and full of fun. If I focus I can tell that this root beer/cream soda smell is anise and tuberose, which is also fun. I could swear I got a bit of popcorn tonight! As is progressed the spice got incense-like. I did get a pumgent note for a bit that reminded me of copal, but I enjoy copal so I didnt mind. It settled to a warm warm musky spice that was still a detectable skin scent 14 hours later. For my second wearing I am getting much more floral notes and a generally brighter scent. It is perfumey and something most would find wearable, bit with a nod toward the food notes. Im only 3 hours in and I have gotten a hint of incense but nothing copal-like. At 7 hours if I put my nose to my wrist amd really try I can get a hint of that pungent note but it is so subtle it really just deepens the tuberose and cream soda scent. I think temperature is the biggest difference. If I remember right I was working in a refrigerated section when I first tested this. It must like room temperature better.

I don't know how the fair in Santa Monica in 1994 smelled, but in my experience funfairs do not smell like this "Replica" perfume. I would have expected something more loud and aggressive from the name, maybe with a roasted almond or slightly burnt cotton candy note. Nevertheless I like this and can't understand the negativity. Funfair Evening is a soft scent that stays close to the body and has an average longevity, but not a weak barely there scent. It's just not cloying or hardcore gourmand and could be worn in mildly warm weather as well as in wintertime. When I first spray it on there is petitgrain and a fresh green apple for a short moment. Beneath there are soft powdery marshmallow, star anise and white floral notes. The fragrance becomes very creamy on my skin - a delicious blend of anise, caramel and orange flower. Clean musk is in the background, I think, and everything dries down to sweet white floral and vanilla with still a hint of star anise.

Don't really understand the hate. It's not the most exciting scent, but I wouldn't call any of Maison Martin Margiela's scents "exciting". Beach Walk smells like Bobbi Brown Beach, Jazz Club is a simple, boozy leather and the original resembles Mugler Cologne.. all nice, but not a one of them "challenging" or "unique". Funfair Evening is a pleasant, fluffy gourmand. I like star anise so this one is a winner for me, despite my usual dislike of gourmand scents. No burning plastic or eye searing vanilla to be found. The marshmallow note actually smells like marshmallow instead of just a generic powdery sweetness. The caramel isn't sticky or overwhelming. I'm not in a rush to own it, but if I ever find myself feeling the urge to own something gourmand, I will most likely turn to this scent.

I cannot love this perfume because of the anise, but it is truly nicely done in conjunction with sweetness. I just don’t care for anise at all, but I am willing to wear this perfume until it is gone. Considering I hate anise but will still wear it—that says a lot to me about how good this perfume is. The anise has mellowed a good deal (still there, just not as glaring as when I first sprayed). I’m in my 6th hour with this perfume, and it’s still going strong. It is powerful as well—I catch a whiff of it constantly. It’s also a different take on marshmallow, which some people will appreciate. If you don’t have any issues with anise and love marshmallow, I highly recommend! This would be perfect for you.

This one is pretty good, but only in the cooler weather. I tested this out in the Summer, and I didn't like it. This starts with a very sharp blast of petitgrain and orange blossom, and anise. I'm not a huge fan of the opening as it is rather sharp and headache inducing. However, after about 20 minutes the gourmand aspects come out, and there is a mix of a sweet marshmallow notes, anise, sweet & salty caramel corn, and the white florals--it's very unique. The dry-down is a sweet powder on my skin. This doesn't have great sillage or projection, and has a moderate lasting time. Definitely don't blind buy this one, sample it first.

This is similar to Black Opium with the green-peppery opening of Escada Magnetism. In the drydown I'm getting a sweet mélange of sugar, molasses, licorice and blush rose petals, all melted together into shards of glass candy. I know it's super specific but that's what my imagination conjures when I smell it. If I'm not mistaken, this came out before Black Opium, so I won't hold the similarity against it. Sillage and longevity are moderate on me, and I'm not sure I find this special enough to pay the uber-inflated ebay prices, but it's still a pretty and evocative fragrance and I will enjoy my bottle for as long as it lasts.

"Funfair Evening" is the first fragrance (known to me so far) in which I can really smell anise, and I love it. It grounds down the caramel, and gives it a fun twist. The end result is a "casual" gourmand, not too sweet. Something easy but not boring to wear. I would definitely recommend you smell this one, and see how you enjoy the combo. The lasting power is unfortunately just not there, and neither is the silage, so while "Funfair Evening" is fun while it lasts, it's not a fragrance I will be purchasing in the near future.

This takes alot of stick but to me it is actually reminiscent of walking around the fair that came to town once a year as a kid. The sweet smell of toffee apples, candy floss, I sense some anis, caramel and marsh mellows, wafts of delights you would buy on your way home after riding the dodger and waltzer! The lightness of it makes me feel I'm back on that field, at that fair and to me thats priceless.

I was so hoping for a caramel apple marshmallow with this! Alas on my skin all I get is an initial spray of Good and Plentys, followed by Smarties, finally drying down to a gentle floral musk. It's all very nicely done (licorice *never* smells good on me, but this one does!) and authentically yummy smelling, no chemical blast or platic for example. It's just not caramel apple.

I've written so many bad reviews lately, I feel like I have to leave a good one! I just love the idea of smelling like the Santa Monica Pier in 1994. This is a fun gourmand. I don't like it $125, but I like it.

Glad I didn’t blind buy it and pay those crazy eBay prices. This smells super close to Jo Malone Rose Water and Vanilla. Nice scent, but it would be redundant in my collection.

This mostly smells of orange blossom on my skin. I hope it will evolve into something a bit with wearing it more, if not, I will need to part with the bottle. EDIT: It does evolve, but after hours and hours on the skin - more than 6 in any case. The drydown is fantastic - caramelly, beautiful. However, it takes so long to get there... I kept a decant and parted with the bottle. The opening which lasts forever is just too boring.

I picture this fragrance as a late evening theme park next to the boardwalk to the beach, with the smell of sunscreen prominent in the air, during the midst of summer. I don’t get anything else from this fragrance other than neroli (hence the sunscreen). I was disappointed, as I expected some gourmand scent which is usually associated with funfairs, but just ended up smelling like sun lotion.

This to me is a Jelly Belly cotton candy jelly bean plus a Jelly Belly popcorn jelly bean as the initial top notes, fading into a floral oriental base that reminded me a bit of Revlon Unforgettable. The top notes did evoke a funfair. It was fun to try it but I don't think I would want to smell like this on an ongoing basis.

This is the sexier, peppery, more mature, Margiela interpretation of Black Opium. Sweet, spicy and floral bodied by deep vanilla. Quite intoxicating, definitely sensual and loud. Black Opium is quite juvenile and over-worn, but this, smells elegant and rich. It is an elevated scent unto itself.

Floral, soapy. Sits close to the skin. Very small sillage and very fast it's gone. Not Dior Poison Girl at all. Maybe a little like Memo Sintra, but just a little. From notes I was waiting for something different. Try before purchase.

To me this smells of marshmallow and cotton candy, which is nice and a bit quirky (in a good way) but I wish there was more happening in this scent... It is just so very simple, so boring...

I was in love with the idea behind this perfume. I'm all about warm cozy fun feelings, especially if it can be emulated in a fragrance. And I was excited about the star anise, as I like a little spice in most of my perfumes. Yes I smell cotton candy. Yes I smell caramel. Yes I smell the anise. Yes I smell that warmth and sweetness of a summer night at a beach side carnival. But unfortunately, Funfair Evening is like a firework that pops and sparkles, then fades very quickly into darkness. After about five minutes, the ride jolts to an unexpected halt, almost giving me whiplash. Suddenly I am nauseated by a sourness that ruins the rest of my anticipated fun-filled evening. Like when you finally get your rainbow sprinkled ice cream cone and it immediately falls on the ground, face down, and you start to cry. But it's chemistry, it's not the perfume's fault. There's just something in this mixture that does not sit well with my skin. Big sad face.

I had high hopes for Funfair Evening as I love gourmand fragrances. However, upon spraying the fragrance, along with the cotton candy, a synthetic, volatile note also bursts out, which makes the scent very sharp and artificial in an unappealing way. This synthetic nuance does wear off, and the fragrance dries down to a soft caramel and orange blossom, nice, comforting, but not something unprecedented in the gourmand genre. On the test strip, the anise and orange blossom together, actually give out an intriguing 'dirty' edge, but unfortunately, it's entirely lost on my skin. The sillage is moderate at first, and drops to soft after about 1 hour. The longevity is around 6 hours. I don't entirely dislike Funfair Evening, but I'm not impressed, either. I think there're other more fun or more sophisticated gourmand fragrances with similar combination of notes, and I wouldn't particularly recommend this fragrance.

Sadly, I seem to be anosmic to this one. On me it is really weak and doesn't project at all. Contrary to all the reviews below, I don't find it sweet. I am really into gourmand fragrances and Funfair Evening is not even close to what I consider a good gourmand perfume. It opens with the hairspray notes a lot of users have mentioned, then fades quickly to some sort of a lotiony smell which is totally lackluster and boring to my nose. I'd describe it as a juvenile floral rather than a gourmand. Try before you buy!

Sadly Funfair Evening isn't anything like I anticipated. It's immediately a harsh floral, very reminiscent of hairspray. I tried to give it some time to calm down, but unfortunately after an hour or so that scent had only vaguely faded. No gourmand notes, perhaps a little sweetness after a while? Not horrid exactly, but not my cup of tea at all. Especially a surprise after trying some indie fair scents that were a little too on the nose.

The disrespect for this fragrance stops here! This is not as juvenile and generic as most reviews are making this out to be. Is it fluffy? Yes. A bit sweet? Of course. But the way this fragrance develops and takes you on a journey is truly genius. The opening is a blast of star anise, which I was not thrilled about. The more I smelled it, a lightbulb went off. Root beer!No, a root beer float( as there is a creamy feel)Yum. You get the green, medicinal, tree bark like notes on top. In the middle is when you get some floral, I get mostly tuberose, maybe Iris? There’s a powdery element. The dry down however is fabulous. I wanted to bite my hand off. This is where you get the caramel apple, cotton candy, and something warm and roasted, maybe like a toasted marshmallow, I’m not sure. This fragrance creates the perfect carefree night at the fair on a summer night. You start the night off with a rootbeer float. Enjoy a few rides, play a game. Oo how lovely a flower stand! Look over there, fresh cotton candy! That stall is selling candy apples and confections! Let’s get both and share. Such a fun fragrance. I foresee this fragrance getting popular in a few years, and very hard to find since it’s discontinued. Enjoy it while it’s still around.

Saw these, remembered that they're new, but I didn't remember if I wanted to test any, so I picked Funfair Evening. The bottle is so gorgeous and amazing, I liked the sprayer very much xD The scent is nice too. But... Too common. I did expect something sweet, but high end with some niche quality olfactory experience. Nah... Marshies! This note is very strong and pairs up with good caramel note. The caramel note is soft and makes me suspect it is a real food flavoring here xD As I smelled and enjoyed it, I've got instant idea, that I smelled this somewhere... where? I thought, maybe similar to Loverdose? Uhm... Not quite, maybe just same direction. Then, maybe Royal Desire? Um.. yes quite that. Marshmallow, that one has it too. And it is as yummy, and much much cheaper. Maybe it doesn't have that lasting power, but I'd chose Royal Desire over this one. It's nice but there are many other caramels and vanillas with great quality and not overpriced. Doesn't trigger anything either :3

I love the funfair idea, so I’ve wanted to try this for a long time and finally got ahold of a mini last week. Unfortunately, as with nearly every offering from this line, I’m disappointed, and I don’t see what this has to do with funfairs at all. I don’t detect anise or anything else promised in the note pyramid. It’s just a white floral, specifically orange blossom. Smells like orange blossom water you’d put into an Italian baby’s bath, to teach them that bathtime is sweet. Some people connote this smell with “marshmallow.” The scent is childish, but cute. It won’t devour the atmosphere in a room the way Love by Kilian does, but Funfair Evening is very much in that same vein, just more powdery and not quite as grape-y. I don’t want anything to do with it, but if this is your bag, I’d suggest Perdizione by Nobile 1942 as a good substitute, since it is still in production, and compared to other offerings in this style it’s the most economical option, in my opinion.

I see this one gets a lot of negative reviews which proves to me how different a fragrance performs on each person. This starts off green on me. It must be the petitgrain and orange blossom. I also get a fresh juicy fruit note (green apple). Soon it will turn sweeter when the gourmand notes show up. I can clearly smell the marshmallow and caramel notes along with the anise. I really like anise in perfumes, in this one it's very subtle though. This fragrance is never just sweet or gourmand on me. The green and fresh notes stay with me almost until the end. In the end it's sweet and a little bit musky & powdery with some anise. I'm not a big fan of gourmands but I like this one because it's not just a gourmand. I don't know if I'll ever buy a large bottle but I'll be happy with a decant. It's also a very joyful perfume to me and it's quite translucent if you get what I mean. It's never thick or cloying. Give it a try.

I can understand why people might not like it, it's got a very, very sweet opening, smelling exactly like old school cotton candy. What makes the scent unique, to me, is just after that sweet opening, the scent sort of flawlessly glides into the white floral scent. I love it. Somedays the white floral seems stronger to me, and other days the cotton candy scent seems stronger, if it really bothers you I might layer with another white floral perfume, but this scent is delicious and wonderful. What makes this work for me is that I don't detect chocolate or vanilla or caramel or any of those other sweet gourmand smells, just straight up cotton candy, and it doesn't last long before the floral kicks in and stays (though the floral always ends up smelling sweet and friendly).

L'Oréal basically has 5 or 6 perfumes and then tweaks them slightly and re-releases them across their brands. Funfair Evening is basically Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto, which I LOVE and constantly receive compliments on. It is surprising how many Fragrantica users don't understand the Relica range. They're designed to be a complete experience, not a traditional fragrance. The top notes of anise and apple do not last. It is there to add to the entirety of the carnival vibe. When it settles, you get warm vanilla and amber with a touch of orange blossom. I have a full bottle of Manifesto but I still bought this. ADORE

Based on a sample from Sephora, the candy floss (marshmallow, star anise, caramel combo) was too realistic for me. A dip in pink or blue spun sugar without sophistication. Was there a bit of popcorn in there too? It was wearable but it wasn't expensive perfume (which it should be with that price tag). This scent is exactly what it claims to be: a replica of a funfair. It didn't, however, make me smell or feel yummy. It's an after-the-fair linger rather than an enticement. By comparison, D&G's Pour Femme is marshmallow done right. Similar but feminine and sexy.

Something's wrong with me. Or perhaps with my bottle of Funfair Evening. I've been reading all these comments about it smelling like cotton candy and marshmallow. Well, I do not smell it at all. AT ALL. I find it very hard to describe what I smell. It does smell synthetic, and the drydown does smell a little bit sweet. But I do not recognise anything in it. I've been thinking there's two versions of this perfume. I bought mine in France at a rather "niche" store. I'm sorry I bought it...

I was given a sample , as I tried it in a store, and like it on a papaer. When I came home and decided to try it: nothing special. Can not destinguish any good element for me. Nah... P.S. What is distinctive is somewhat "plasticky", i like that note. p.s. I saw the perfumeurs, who was noses in this perfume, strange thing, i like most of their treasures, to name a few Chic (Herrera), boudoir (Westwood)
