Mutiny

I tested most of MM fragrances and none of them made the same impression on me like Mutiny. I felt that there was always something missing or overpowering in them. Mutiny for a change ticked many boxes for me. I have fallen in love with the fragrance straightaway so I had to purchase a bottle same day. I agree with many reviewers here that it may not be a unique fragrance but it is a beautiful, warm and feminine scent. I find Mutiny slightly syrupy but that is well balanced with spicy and citrussy notes. It is so well blended that neither tuberose or patchouli are overwhelming in this fragrance. Mutiny is a complex scent that is comforting and addictive and can be worn anytime. I love it how it dries down on my skin... fresh and addictive breeze. I purchased it about 4 months ago and it’s one of the fragrances in my collection that I wear most often.

This is the best generic smelling perfume ever! All the reviews seem to state it was boring and disappointing no naturally I was expecting the same thing. I scored a bottle online cheap as chips. When it arrived I had low expectations. But when I sprayed it I was relieved. It was not masculine or dirty or heavy but a very soft subtle feminine scent that was far from boring. It is so calming and gentle and I can easily see myself using the entire bottle. All of the notes that are mentioned are in there and they are all blended beautifully without any one of them dominating the juice. The Patchouli is very tame and almost untraceable. A score that will remain on my vanity until the bottle is drained!

I got a sample of this perfume, never head of it or smelt it prior. Upon spraying once onto my neck, I was in awe! Smells very unique and I felt sexy and sophisticated. I love the rich fruity tones but there's this real classy but rebellious feel about this fragrance. I have tried many, many perfumes and get some compliments occasionally. However, my boyfriend came into the room after I had one spritz on me and immediately came up behind me, put his head into my neck (smelling deeply) then passionately kissed me... Think that says it all!

I have 2 favorite fragrances to throw on to smell sweet, young and innocent and they are Mutiny and Wanted Girl. I don't smell oud or leather at all. I have always compared the two fragrances as the same type of hype (not the exact scent) -Mutiny & Azzaro Wanted Girl. Both are orange blossom, fruity-citrus, sweet tooth, lactone/vanilla spritzers - GIRL BYE- fragrances. I would say this leans feminine (p.s - I didn't know it was unisex). I love Dominique Ropion fragrances and this one is part of my clique!

I really like this fragrance - maybe I’m just coming into my orange blossom phase, but it’s very delicate, fruity and pleasant. Maybe not ground breaking, but there was something about the tester I kept trying that made me purchase a full bottle after a few months of going back to it

I dont have big complaints about the scent, but why - WHY?! - did they market this as unisex? Its one of the most obviously feminine scents I've smelled (I am a guy, and dont usually smell women's frags.)

When i first saw it in store, the SA told it was a white floral on a leather background. For me it was an immediate like, definitely floral with smth fresh and a little sweet, but.. leather? where? It starts with a blast of citruses, not harsh at all, rather fresh/bitterish and non-descript, then very soon i can smell florals and a touch of sweetness which i can ascribe to vanilla note. I can't smell any particular flowers, so if you are looking for a big tuberose, you might be disappointed. There is also a bit of woodiness to the scent, but i wouldn't have guessed it was oud. So if you are afraid of it - don't be. That pretty much sums up my impression of this scent. Bitter-fresh, almost herbal, fresh flowers, touch of vanilla - in that order. No leather - at least not for me. There is not much development either. What i described happens within the first maybe 20 min. And then it stays quite linear. Sillage is moderate, longevity is not impressive. I wish it stayed longer... I don't know if it is particularly rebellious. It is very feminine and a bit extravagant, stylish and elegant. That's what i get from it. I like it. The bottle is quite attention-grabbing

Interestingly,I don't find Mutiny overwhelmingly sweet, or girlish...I find it stylish, pretty, like a yellow floral type...it reminds me strongly of Dior j' Adore edt, in the light breezy floral tone, with a juicy pear.....seems the reviews are really all over ..not the easiest scent to describe...I like it,not a strong love, but it has a certain quality to it..feminine, modern, I find it maybe more expensive than it smells...? I don't get oud or patchouli, maybe a hint of vanilla...this is to my nose a juicy floral, not overdone...on my skin though longevity is weak...I would only consider buying it if I found a deal..it also has a honeyed quality to it...vaguely reminiscent of Lady Million...so this is a bit of a lot of nice fragrances, not one I desperatly want, but I wouldn't mind wearing it .now please why is every new scent coming out labelled as unisex !? So sick of it,l,this is very feminine...now I feel the name doesn't represent the scent well, this isn't a revolutionary break the mold scent, it is rather stylish and pretty in a conventional way..

Where does Frangrantica get there information on a fragrance? This is not a match to the Margiela website at all. 1) Dominique Ropion is NOT the nose behind this-- it's John Galliano. 2) the perfume has green notes as well as orange blossom in the open. there is supposed to be tuberose all through it and cedarwood in the drydown, not agarwood ( oud) OR patchouli either. I KNEW there wasn't any of either woods. It's clearly cedarwood. Although they discussed three levels of tuberose on Margiela website, I didn't get much of that. It was orange blossom all day long. A very nice, fruity orange blossom scent, with a whisper of tuberose, and a bit of cedar.. Not sure why they named it Mutiny, as it's a very pretty perfume. I happen to love orange blossom, so I find this quite nice. But, only on sale. It's not groundbreaking or overly original, but it smells really good. Not sure if I will buy another bottle as my perfume collection is rather massive. That said, if you like orange blossom, this is a pretty safe buy. And it has decent performance.

This was a blind buy for me. I liked the notes, so I was willing to take the risk. I'm really glad that I didn't see any of the unfavorable reviews before I formed my own opinion. I really like this fragrance. I can't say exactly what gets me about this fragrance. Maybe it's the creaminess of the scent. I don't have anything else like this in my collection. I have several MM Replica fragrances. This is completely different. It's a happy scent. I was hoping for more of the woody & green notes on the dry down but, for me, the middle notes last forever. To achieve exactly what I want, I layer this with MM Replica Whispers in the Library. It calms the sweetness of Mutiny while amplifying the base note of vanilla and adding depth with the cedar. I haven't owned this fragrance for long but I envision myself wearing this combo frequently. They compliment each other quite well. I choose my fragrances based on my current mood or to improve my mood. This scent & this combo are definitely a mood lifters for me.

I just received a sample vial of this with my recent MMM order and wanted to leave my initial impressions: it's nice, unoffensive, but certainly not mutinous in any sense. It seems to fall right in line with the all-too-often-used tropes in perfumery now: that candy, fruity, generic mass appeal quality a lot of scents have. If I had to guess I'd say this is a very close cousin of BonBon or one of the other many scents that share similar characteristics. I'm disappointed that Galliano chose to sign this, much less put the Margiela name on it: it's just so middle-of-the-road. Incidentally, this leans quite feminine, so you've been warned. Further, for an EDP, Mutiny is lackluster at best: it lasts all of ~2 hours before deteriorating into a skin scent, and sillage is equally as unimpressive. Perhaps if they had put as much time and effort into the scent as they did the ad campaign, they would have come up with something truly memorable and genuinely mutinous.

Dominique Ropion is my favourite parfumer and this creation makes sense as part of his output. He's so good with white floral orientals, which is what Mutiny is. I am surprised by all of the comments of this being generic, because when I first tried it in 2018 at Selfridges I found it quite bold and ostentatious. Some of the 'generic'-ness has come from the fact Mutiny was created at the start of a perfume trend that may or may not have been kick-started by Paco Rabanne's successful Olympea, but which now includes a whole army of sweet vanilla florientals with some aromatic notes, be they salty, lavender-like or oudy-cedary. Mutiny starts off very rich and salty on my skin, quickly becomes a honeyed tuberose and oud fragrance, drying down to be a gentle tuberose. There is something incongruous about this sitting in the Maison Margiela line, but that seems to be a marketing issue more than a quality one.

NOT EVERY PERFUME YOU OWN NEEDS TO BE SUPER UNIQUE. I love that I have unusual, complex scents in my collection, but aren’t the crowd pleasers just as important?? Mutiny is quite simple, it’s comforting & pleasant. This is a great signature scent, and yes it is a crowd pleaser! I know I can wear this anywhere and I will receive compliments, I can wear this at work and nobody will find it unpleasant or complain. It is not the most interesting scent that exists but it is quite stunning & has great lasting & projection. I COMPLETELY recommend this scent, feminine, sexy & simple.... which is okay

Super feminine and joyous... for a Mutiny. A salty peach. It seems the front-loaded type and needs time to be verifed. It has cocoNUT vibe with salty breeze in the background and mangos eaten in a shadow. An effect of salted female skin warmed by sunshine, drinking coconut milk and eating fruits. It seems a bit chemical - my receptors are reacting with slight discomfort when smelling my wrist upclose. It mellows with time and stays quite the salty peach and warm flesh. There is something naughty about it. Loving the bottle design. I can live without having it, I doubt I will miss Mutiny...

Vacation in a bottle without that standard coconut note thrown in. Nothing groundbreaking but it's nice but the price let's it down, it's just not worth it. If you want to smell like a Buttery tuberose on a hot sunny day with salty hair by the beach this is the one. I do think it's very reminiscent of FDD oud Juane too the same applies to that for me too as nice as it is it's also super overpriced for what it is. But nice indeed and refreshing not to have a coconut note.

Nice modern floral with a creamy base note. It's supposed to be an authentic tuberose but I can't agree. There's a touch of tuberose, yes, but the other notes dominate. Moderate sillage and lasting power, a work safe, unisex scent. I bought a carded sample, the bottled fragrance is quite expensive. Is it worth the money? IMHO, Replica Jazz Club is the better perfume by far.

Feminine, smooth and faultlessly blended. A highly wearable season-less orangey/fruity floral with a classic base. A strong like, yes for me, I am a fan of orange/neroli. Will I buy a FB? Maybe after I finish up countless other ones on hand. Maybe not a good blind buy based on other reviews and yeah, it isn't outstanding or unique.

No mutineer made an appearance during my wearing of this fragrance, all the notes got along nicely and tuberose was on its best behaviour. Fruity floral of moderate intensity.

just tested this - thias is a Olympea Intense with a touch of leather and more citrussy. 90% identical. very good guality, very nice, just as Olympea

Smells like a vacation scent which surprised me a buttery tuberose done right. But way overpriced so I wouldn't purchase this.

Mutiny is a generic spicy-fruity-floral. There’s a strong tuberose note which, when it meets the leather accord, turns almost plasticky. (Or, what some people describe as that "doll head" smell.) I wish the spice from the saffron and pink pepper were better incorporated. There are just 1) better riffs on this concept; and 2) MUCH more interesting fragrances from this label. Although a decent fragrance, this doesn’t have any personality to me. After about 30 minutes, there’s almost no projection. It’s not particularly “sexy.” It’s definitely not sporty. It doesn’t have the longevity to be an office scent. If I’m looking for something pretty for a special occasion, it’s a little too casual. If I want something casual, there are better choices. I can’t think of any occasion when I’d actually pick this over something else. One positive is that it’s not your typical "Spring" white floral, but one that would also transition well into Fall weather. It's more warm than "crisp" or "fresh." TO BE CLEAR, I'm not saying this smells bad. It's just that, if I want a fruity white floral, I have about 20 others I’d reach for before this one. It’s “nice,” but not WOW!, especially for the price point of a Maison Martin Margiela fragrance.

At first spray I thought, 'Oh! I'm going to really like this,' but about 20 seconds later I wasn't so sure. I gave it some time to settle and then smelled my wrist and, since smells are associated with memories for me, I immediately recalled being a child and burning the back of my hand in the oven. My grandmother smothered the burn mark in butter, and I've never liked even a smidgeon of butter on my fingers since then. Other reviewers have referred to the butteriness of this fragrance, but for some reason I didn't think they meant it actually smells like butter. Currently, I smell like I just peeled an orange with my buttery fingers. It's all a bit foody and messy. I'll be honest, this is not an awful fragrance. If I sat next to someone wearing this I'd be fine with it, but to wear it myself, it's a no I'm afraid.

I got a sample of Mutiny by chance, and it's one of those scents I feel disqualified from really reviewing, since it's so far from my own thing that I can't say whether it's good in its category or not. It's a big, bold tuberose, strong and longlasting, feminine and very sweet in a balanced way. It definitely has that bubblegum vibe to it. The other notes, like pear and vanilla, are only there to enhance this powerful sweetness; I can't distinguish them in their own right at all. As is the case with many tuberose scents, I get a vague undertone of something vegetal, like celery, but not enough to really have an impact. I like it well enough, but I'd never pick it for myself - but that says more about my tastes than it does about this scent.

I had high hopes for this scent after hearing it on a blotter, it was strong, sweet and very girly, with a definite pear note. On my skin, sadly, it evolved into a peachy aftertaste with a faint patchouli hint, no traces of oud or leather. I feel this is a scent for a teen girl, it tries to be bold, but is in fact positively fruity and hopelessly cute.

Got this as a gift from my friend. I really wished I could have enjoyed this. So fruity. Smells too sweet for me.

smells kinda buttery. Maybe its the tuberose but comes across more gourmand than flowery. not a fan. :(

A fruity perfume. Open with citrus, company with a heavy syrup-y sweetness, mainly the feeling of concentrated pear jam. Then after a while the chemical sense of peach appears, strong, concentrated, and long-lasting. I just sprayed a pump and a half on the back of my hand and after around 3hrs it can even makes me feel too much and all other fragrances on other parts of my body are not perceivable. After the peach slowly weak down, pink pepper, saffron, leather, patchouli, and guaiac wood similar scents will appear. I don't like this perfume because of the strong and chemical peach and sweetness. ------ 果香主题香水。开头柑橘,有很重的糖浆甜味,主要是浓缩梨子的感觉。再过一会出现桃子的化工感,持续很长时间,化工感很强烈,而且它很浓郁,存在感非常强,我只是手背上喷了一泵半就甚至能有点熏到自己,身上其他味道都完全不见。桃子慢慢弱下去会出现粉红胡椒、藏红花、皮革、藿香、愈创木类似的味道。 因为强烈且化工的桃子和甜度,我不喜欢这款香水。

This is not a tuberose scent. It is a pear, peach and vanilla perfume, fading too quickly and gone before my friend and I made it back to our car from our shopping excursion. Neither of us picked up on any kind of oud note. Underwhelmed after the opening fades. Verdict: generic fruity floral perfume with sub par performance.

Sugary sweet and fruity like 90's Boots bubblebath. All bright colours and fruit scents that have never seen a real fruit. Not for me

I can't get over the price: over a hundred dollars to smell like every other perfume from the high school locker room?

This is really sweet and tropical smelling. I smell a suntan coconut vibe going on here. I'll pass

The name of this drew me in. Mutiny! Was it mutiny against modern perfumery? Or was it going to hearken back to the days of pirates and questionable loyalty? Unfortunately the answer is...neither of these things. Mutiny is a sickeningly sweet fruity floral with little depth or intrigue. MMM tends to do their white florals extra sweet, and this is no exception. I'm thoroughly underwhelmed by this one.

Over pouring, nothing special, boring, smells the same as lots of other fragrances. It has a very strong smell of one thing i don’t like that is very aquatic smelling, but I don’t know which note/s it is. Definitely not a safe blind buy! Not something I’d ever choose to wear. Smells very much like a cheap toilet air freshener

This was one of the biggest disappointments of the year. I get clubbed over the head with all the floral mentioned. The silliage fills the room with florals that are suffocating. There is no sweet fruit or citrus. I will destash immediately.

In anticipation of 'Pirate Day' in my area, I wanted to try Mutiny. I'm imagining a perfume for Lt. Fletcher Christian that would make Capt. Bligh envious . . . *sigh* . . . instead I got chernobyl florals. Nuclear chemical blooms that unleash radioactive scent with a half-life of 48 hours. So irradiated with artificial flowery fission, it still lingers after a decontamination shower. Dominique Ropion is a world class master perfumer. He has created some of the most beguiling scents on the planet. However, he only assisted on this composition. Mutiny was primarily created by John Galliano. His first perfume since he took over as Creative Director of the brand. Galliano said that he created Mutiny via 'deconstruction', breaking down before building up. He assembled a "tribe" of sulky Gen-Zer's to represent the ideal in the videos - "rebellion comes from within". If I had chosen the tribe based on smell, they would look like aging beauty pagent contestants wearing stage make-up, gaudy costume jewelry, and tight spandex. Might be the generation gap, b/c to me, Mutiny smells similar to other generic, chemically-harsh, cut-n-paste florals. My act of rebellion will be to pass.

Writing to confirm that those online sign-ups from the MMM website promising free samples of this are legitimate. Mutiny starts out very fruity! I'm reminded of Fruit Stripe Gum from my childhood. As the fruity quality lingers in the heart-notes, Mutiny takes on a shimmering, sharp, almost ammoniac effect. In spite of how this may sound, it remains pleasant. The tuberose is blooming and starting to do that bubblegum thing it sometimes does. In the last act of the dry-down it is still vaguely fruity, a little green, eminently sweet. Sadly, there is nothing very mutinous about this, unless the fruit salad at the party is actually poisoned and we won't know until tomorrow that all the guests have perished. On a more serious note, though, this strikes me as a fun and optimistic frag, and maybe in today's world, if you watch a little too much television news, optimism is a kind of mutiny!

I received a sample of this. I would agree with other comments about the underwhelming composition on initial testings, there was a reedy screechiness to the florals here, it lacked depth. HOWEVER. One spritz of this on my wrist at the office had my coworkers exclaiming within seconds "What is that lovely smell?", even my two male bosses who were standing several metres away from me, so sillage is good. The spritz has lasted into the next day, on the fabric of my cotton sweater and the thin profile has warmed down to an almost coconutty creaminess, aided by the tuberose. I am reconsidering this scent now, I think the white florals/ fruits are quite pretty enough but the execution of the tuberose in which it melts into a smooth drydown is rather fetching. Not for me, but a nice scent... Overpriced of course but that's the Margiela name.

I have to write an update now that I've had this scent develop on my skin for some hours. The scent is definitely not going anywhere yet and by this I mean that the longevity is good. I can also catch the flowers clearly now, and some fruitiness as well, although the fruits stay very much in the background for me. This is a warm, pretty heavy, sweet, flowery and leathery scent with some fruits in it. Very feminine yes, like is said in my review below, but no freshness at all in this on my skin. Pretty much on the contrary: I'm able to detect some smokiness in this, which some people might find sexy. Not my typical type of fragrance at all, as I like my scents a bit fresher/cooler, but I like the way this developed on my skin. I don't think I will be wearing this much though, but I can see why a lot of people might really enjoy this.

I recently placed an order where I was able to select two samples to be included with my purchase and as I love saffron in perfumery, seeing that listed as a note in Mutiny I was sold. I just got it today and I quite enjoy it, even though I don’t smell much of the saffron, leather or oud. I definitely smell the apple, peach, pear and orange blossom. It’s currently summer here in Australia and Mutiny suits the season perfectly. Will I buy a full bottle? That’s an easy question to answer as I can’t see it available anywhere here in Australia. However, it smells enough like Tocca Giulietta that I doubt I’d buy Mutiny even if I could considering Giulietta is much more affordable and they’re similar enough.

To me this is tuberose with all the overpowering parts of tuberose toned down. I'm surprised to see this has no solar accords because this is big yellow mellow & rounded to uft degree. This is buttery & sunny and sunshine and white dresses. (pssst!, warm mandarine and apple skin back here) Anybody remember the Australian "Cadbury flake" 80's commercial Lady in the white hat & dress eating a flake chocolate flake by flake instead of just chomping away like a normal person (a normal person would get a least one flake of brown chocolate on that white lace dress) She would smell just like this. Tuberose tamed but with added solar warm round buttery accords. Generic? not to me.

This is very sweet on my skin. I was so much looking forward to all of those fruits in this one (apple, mandarin, orange, peach and pear) and how they are blended here. But to me they are not very dominant at all. I can say there there is some fruitiness there, but I'm not able to name any specific fruits. Oud and leather are pretty strong on my skin and the patchouli is there. So all in all on my skin this is a very sweet and quite warm leathery scent, with just a hint of fruits and patchouli. I usually like white floral based oriental florals, but this I think might not be for me. It's all down to the skin chemistry.

I tried this perfume after the Interesting name. I was delightfully surprised. It has an 80’s vibe to it which is so refreshing after all the overloaded patchouli perfumes. This has patchouli, but it Is not a dominant note. It smells like a beautiful floral. It smells very similar to Ralph Lauren’s Woman perfume. Will have to test them together to see which works with my skin best. I am reading complaints of a chemical smell that I do not smell. I think synthetic scents tend to last a bit longer than the natural scents, depending on the chemistry. I think it may be a winner.

A bit more mature than Hermes Twilly and fruitier than Gucci Bloom, Mutiny is riding the trendy white floral wave and does a nice job standing out from its contemporaries. The fruity note perplexes me though, rather than feeling like peach or mandarin as listed, to me the thing skews *GRAPE.* Rather like a grape fanta - not overly sweet, still somewhat refreshing, but grape-y nonetheless. In its own way, it reminds me of a modern take on Dior's classic Poison, without the cinnamon spiciness underscoring the dried fruit and white floral notes.

To me it smells mainly fresh and fruity in the opening (my favorite part). I detect oranges very prominent, orange flower and jasmine? (not listed). It turns into a flowery vanilla for me, I don't get oud, leather, tuberose or saffron (not that I ever consciously smelled saffron in a perfume). To me it is a bit disappointing, I think I expected a more expensive vibe. From what I read here, I'm more convinced than ever that every nose is different, and you should never make a blind buy based on what other people say (or the listed notes).

Summary: Super slept on nectary floral scent! So, my husband asked me to buy him this for Christmas 2018. I did, and I wore it more than he did. One thing I find out about Mutiny is that it’s a difficult scent to describe. That being because I don’t pinpoint a particular note. I would say that this is a safe blind buy. I couldn’t imagine anyone disliking this. It’s also super versatile for both office wear or evening. Many of my colleagues have complimented me whenever I’ve wore this. Perfect for spring/summer months.

Sweet awfulness. I can only quote Madonna - Sticky & Sweet...The SA said: Wait it will become more spicy with time...When exactly? When I spray Sycomore on top of it? I really can't understand how someone wants to smell like unwashed for three days makeup.....(the only effect you can achieve is people around you doubting your hygiene with such type of scents or just sneezing)....Well I'll stick to MMM(untitled) it is obviously another era (before present day owners).

A warm spicy fruity scent. A Baccarat Rouge and Flowerbomb vibe but more on the fruity side. Not sure what the name refers to, other than a mutiny on a ship near a tropical island, hence all the fruit I guess, but it's way too tasty and pleasant to be any bit rebellious. In fact, it's the opposite of rebellious, it could be a safe blind buy for a fan of warm sweet perfumes. Overall, a good scent, I wouldn't call it a unisex, it is quite feminine.

It’s a safe fruity floral with an appealing creamsicle-like effect in the opening from citrus/floral/vanilla -sweetness. It’s not at all what I would expect from the name and the advertising (which is what made me curious enough to try it) but I have to say that it smells better than most designer perfumes out there. It’s charming and if I were female I’d probably buy it.

i would not be able to single it out of 10 fragrances that are being sold in a department store today, to me it smells just like another mass market fragrances, not like MMM, probably they made it to rake in the revenue, a lot of people will like it and will buy it, so i guess it fits the purpose

I was surprised to find a tester so sprayed it on my hand and I got a very sweet, fruity, kids sweets kind of smell. It feels nice and comfortable but it isn't unique or exciting in any way. In the dry down it reminded me to PR Lady Million Empire.
