Sailing Day

BIG BIG FAN HERE. I have been wearing this for a while and am declaring it my signature scent. I'm not sure if my take on Sailing Day is weird, but my reactions are more than just a uniquely good scent from MM's Replica series. Overall, this blue bottle might not be number 1, but it doesn't matters because it matters to me, more than just simply "nice". Starts of floral sweet with a hint of aquatic and smaller traces of saltiness. Like the balance is good, just like that silver salted caramel ice-cream I had back when I was 14. And the capturing of nostalgia doesn't end here, that "Paros, 2001" is a part of my most favourite country (Greece) and the year of my birth respectively. Then, it dries down to being more seaweed than anything else. Not the raw and part decayed ones floating towards the beaches of my city, but the kind that is fresh, pasteurised and flavoured with melons and other ingredients that are beyond what I could afford. The cold side dish to a feast on a mid tier cruise ship, made even better when the weather suddenly shifts to a cold windy rainstorm. The first time I've ever tried Sailing Day was via the sampler box that was $95 in my local currency. Ever since then, I've been using oil dupes and have been rebuying it more than any other scents. Similar to the original by 95% and the missing 5% is for the incomplete mixture. But its not so much of "you buy what you've paid for" because it is better to solve it by shaking it than to spend over 20 times for a 100ml. As for a weird take on romantic story writing, I also like to pair it with Beach Walk. 💙💛 Like a young couple going to the same beach, with one liking the thrill and adventure of boating while the other enjoying the feel of bare feet on the warm golden sands. 🌊⛵️🏖️✨

I'm surprised with how controversial this is, because to my nose, Sailing Day is the most authentically fresh and marine fragrance I've ever found. I adore marine perfumes, which I blame on my childhood spent in the DelMarVa region, on the beaches of the Eastern Shore facing the Atlantic, surrounded by lighthouses and seashells. I grew up with that familiar saline, ozonic scent my whole life–and having swapped the Atlantic for the Pacific, I still seek out the beach and its smells whenever possible. Sailing Day does that for me. To my nose, Sailing Day is pure, clean, fresh and soothingly marine, from the opening to the dry down, complemented by the lovely juniper note and the hint of seaweed. I don't detect any red pepper or coriander despite them being listed, and the ambergris doesn't come across as animalic to me. I imagine that the combination of these notes might be too literal for most people. Coriander and ambergris are notoriously love-it-or-hate-it notes, so I'm glad that at least I don't detect them–but I imagine they put off a lot of people from this fragrance. I consider Sailing Day the marine counterpart to fellow Replica fragrance When the Rain Stops, my absolute favorite from this brand–whereas When the Rain Stops is an ozonic, pine, grassy and mossy aquatic, Sailing Day is more of an oceanic, cedar, juniper aquatic. Both share a subtle rose note at the heart, which I love. The sillage is intimate but it has decent, four to five hour longevity on my skin, and up to seven hours on my clothes and linens. I think this would great to spray on my sheets and clothes for that optimal soothing, nostalgic experience.

I remember instantly falling in love with this when I smelled it at a Sephora, enough that I purchased a 15ml sample that was on sale for $15. While I could be absolutely convinced this was the scent that was permeating throughout Paros in 2001, I wouldn't pay anywhere close to the $165 that MMM, and some other places, are asking for it, but that's mostly due to me being cheap. Thankfully some discounters now have it at over half that cost. Replica fragrances do what the name suggests, and this one does it at least as well as the others I've smelled. Now, mind you, I've never "sailed" per se, but I have been around enough bodies of water to know that each emanates distinct smells. The quality, however, doesn't beget longevity, and projection lasts on the lower side of 3 hours. Even so, I love how this fragrance blends its notes together so that it creates harmony rather than confusion or awkwardness. While the iris is prominent, I wouldn't have realized that there were notes of coriander or red pepper before it. Nor does the dry down reek of seaweed, like Acqua Di Gio Absolu Instinct does before it even gets there. The worst thing about this fragrance then, is that it doesn't come with a time machine and teleporter, and the cheapest flights there are running north of $1000. Pick up a bottle of this, do a quick Google search for Paros, and for less than 1/10th the price, it can give you an idea of what that time and place might have at least smelled like. All you have to do is spray. 9/10

I love this fragrance. THIS has been my favorite Replica so far! (used to be Under the Lemon Tree). Sailing Day paints such a clear picture, and it tells a story, simple but effective; On the opening you get an almost realistic artificial wood accord, like if you were smelling recently barnished banisters, almost like you were at the port. There's definitely an aquatic/marine note in the beginning, what you get is pure freshness after all, but the wood is what has me so in love (I always say I hate wood in fragrances and this just made me change my mind). It's a saling day after all, so it's only natural to actually sail, leaving the port and the wood behind (sadly) as it dries down, to be met with a very fresh and aquatic, almost salty and slightly spicy fragrance. It's not really all that complex, it's very light, you're not going to get Megamare off this, but if you're looking for something light that still tells a story, this is worth a shot. I will say, this is a bit more masculine than feminine, and it's a perfume I would loveee to smell on a male partner!! However, I still get a kick out of wearing it myself, to me it smells like freedom. What can I say? I love the sea 9/10

I am writing this for the 10 mL travel size. I smell this perfume every time I go into Sephora and have considered buying it for years. However, the full price for a large bottle ($165 for 100 mL in my country) is just way too expensive for the short duration it can be smelled. I do really love the smell - it reminds me of being in Greece or on the beach in Nazaré, Portugal. It doesn’t have the cheap synthetic smell that a lot of beach perfumes do, nor does it smell like sunscreen, vanilla, or coconut (all huge NOs for me for ocean scents!) I have found this compliments Claus Porto’s Brise Marine line of soap and hand cream (more driftwood) as well as Williams Sonoma’s Fleur de Sel hand soap & lotion (more floral). When used together it extends the life of both products and leaves a really nice summer time scent. If Maison Margiela could find a way to increase the lifespan of this fragrance I’d buy 10 bottles because it is perfect for me and inoffensive in the workplace - to others it’s a generally nice clean smell, not perfume-y.

First of all, I had no idea this had rose in it. Me and rose are sworn enemies, like it is on sight. Thank god it is drowned out by every other note. Second, I can see why people wouldn’t like this. It doesn't lean into citrus like a lot of "beachy" or "water" scents. But as someone who was huffing pool cleaning chemicals and lived on a boat in the FL keys for most of my childhood, it is very nostalgic for me. It smells like a hot, sweaty day where you are hauling your ass out of the gulf of Mexico onto your boat and your swim trunks are sopping wet and clinging to your thighs while the salty sea breeze is making you cold and hitting your face and ugh there's seaweed hanging onto your skin FUCK and your parents are arguing but god all you want is a bologna sandwich and doritos. Maybe my brain cells are gone from chlorine and I'm an outlier for enjoying it, who knows.

This doesn't seem deserving of a "love" rating, but there's something about it that gets me. When I was young I had a Joe Boxer body spray set, and this smells just like my favorite one out of them all. Brought that memory out of the darkness instantly when I sprayed it, so there's a definite nostalgia factor influencing my rating. Because I know there are scents out there just like this for 1/10 the price, it's way overpriced in my opinion. Someone described the smell as photorealistic watermelon and I completely agree- not candy, but sliced, fleshy fruit. It's summer in a bottle. On my skin and clothes, that fresh melon/ rind scent stuck around for most of the day and I loved catching whiffs while reading in the sun. It's not sophisticated but it makes me happy.

I personally love Sailing Day in all caps PERSONAL. After repeatedly buying and using it, I’ve noticed that the sweet floral REPLICA charm fades out too quickly in the summer, leaving behind a putrid salty stench on my skin. While experiencing it best during the cold June to August, it reminds me of my terrible past and the brighter future. Of being the uncool kid watching the other popular girls have fun and being told in my mind that the future me will travel to Greece and experience the things even the most diva classmates could ever dreamt of. The first whiff of Sailing Day happened when I was being put down by a co-worker. It was also during the same period when I began adoring Greek Culture and yeah, these also took place during the winter seasons.

Replica Sailing Day, to me, captures the "idea" of an aquatic/oceanic scent and much less the actual scents of the ocean. If you're looking for actual oceanic, salty, briny vibes, check out Issey Miyake's Le Sel D'Issey EDT (which I also adore). With that out of the way, this perfume is absolutely delightful. It's bubbly, smooth, well-rounded, and fresh. Some find it sort of chemicalish (not a safe blind buy, thankfully I was able to sample first), so keep that in mind, but I am not one of those people. To me this is a gorgeous scent with decent lasting power, 100% unisex and overall quite versatile. Right now it's in my top 10 of fragrances I currently own. Give it a try, and if you like it, look around for a decent price on discounters!

This is probably one of my favorites from the Replica line that I have tried so far, when I first sprayed it on, the opening was really similar to Under the Lemon Trees, up to the point where I was thinking it would be redundant to own both. It then slowly evolves into this fresh, sweet, oceanic smell which is different from anything I’ve smelled before. It’s just an amazing fragrance for the warmer months. Most of the Replica line has mediocre performance but this one is above average for me, lasting around 7-8 hours easily which is impressive for a freshie. I think I would pick up a full bottle of this for the warmer months 10/10

In the bottle, this smells really bright, sweet and aquatic to me but on paper/my skin it starts off smelling kind of like men's cologne? Very clean and aquatic, like a mix of cleaning supplies and men's body spray but after the dry down it starts becoming sweeter and softer. Whoever said it smells like watermelon is spot on! Its still aquatic but slightly floral and sweet. It lasts on my skin for hours and despite not liking the initial 10ish minutes of wearing this, I am obsessed with the way this develops.

This fragrance is masculine and somewhat tropical at the same time if that makes sense. It’s in no way fruity, that’s not what I mean by tropical. It smells like coconut sunscreen on the beech. My friend has French Riviera by Mancera, and this is very similar. Its not really unique, it’s just something that people will smell on you and think “oh, that’s a nice beach scent.” It smells like if you were to have the memory of being at the beach itself and put it in a bottle. It’s very nostalgic and fresh to me.

this fragrance is like my ultimate guilty pleasure. do most people hate it? yes. is the performance mediocre? yes. is it kinda overpriced? yes. but damn i still adore it. the most realistic aquatic/marine fragrance i've ever smelled, literally smells like swimming in a cove, your skin being covered in dirty sand and seaweed, which understandably sounds gross to most people, but to me is absolutely beautiful. i am a sailing day defender til i die

Got a decant size of this. I love it! On first spray I could instantly smell the aquatics in it. As time went on I got more of a fresh and clean soap smell which I love. It is not cloying at all and is very light and airy. A great scent to use on a warm summer day with the wind slightly blowing! Almost up there with Melody of the Sun for me! I just wish it lasted longer! 9/10

One of the best fragrances for summer. Fresh, aquatic, and very clean. It smells like ocean air and sea breeze, with marine notes, juniper, and a bit of ambergris that gives it a salty, natural feel. If you want a fragrance that instantly feels like summer, this is it. Clean, airy, and effortlessly good.

I know it’s probably weird to say I want to smell like water, lol, but I do. This is the perfect clean, fresh, marine/aquatic for me. There’s something a little sharp to my nose at first spray but it fades quickly. I get 5-6 hrs longevity with this which is better than most other fresh scents I have.

Just a girl who yearns for the sea... I use this like aromatherapy. It's so addicting. Actually it smells like my mom's bedside lotion she had when I was a kid. I've been chasing that scent ever since (apparently). Found something close to it. Longevity is amazing on me. 10/10

My dad who hates fragrances genuinely likes this one. It reminds him of his childhood, growing up next to the Adriatic Sea. Just a really nice marine scent, a bit less fresh than other blue scents though. Which I like. A perfect non-citrusy scent for summer.

If the sky blue has their own scent, this would be it. As a person who loves Marine fragrances this is the one I’ll use forever, scent of salty sea and sparkle of aldehydes mixed together perfectly but sometimes can make you feel greasy 🌊🌊🌊

in my current rotation for summer scent trials...has that aquamarine feel i've been looking for but not as youthful as i would like. super playful, crazy longevity. has the feeling of holding your ear up to a seashell on a bright day.

i bought this in the winter on sale and thought it was okay, now that it's summer I'm in love with it. It starts as salty sea forward but on me the dry-down is bright warm cedar with a touch of floral. I'm obsessed right now!!

This one is quite lovely. Very fresh, like a laundry scent. Also quite aquatic with some woodsy in there. Love the bottle as well. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a clean, fresh and aquatic fragrance.

I like that it isn't coconut-y, it's the closest I have found to smell like Sea salt water but there is also a forest smell to it. It's fresh but on me settles down to musty animalistic scent and fresh laundry.

I don't care if this smells a bit on the feminine side it smells very aquatic and fresh like Aqua di Gio mixed with Versace with some floral notes. I want to get a 10ml in hope I can get a full size in future!

I only wear this fragrance when I go cruising. It has a beautiful scent memory for me that way. It's perfect. Light, airy, aquatic, salty, fresh. I can't think of a better fragrance to wear for that occasion.

I can't quite understand this fragrance. I have smelled this before and it's just "okay". But when my wife wears it, it drives me wild. It smells good but on my wife, it's something else.

beach day :) Smells like a fresh towel and the sea breeze. I would say this is pretty unisex in the way anyone can smell like the sea. Someday I will splurge and buy the full bottle...

Having never experienced a fragrance like this, it has surprised me just how strongly it smells of the ocean; I found it extremely realistic. It’s certainly not difficult, when wearing this, to imagine oneself out on a sailboat or walking along a beach taking in the ocean spray. It comes in with a blast of salty aquatic freshness that lasts, with very little change, for a good eight hours on my skin. Aldehydes give it a crisp, breezy, uplifting feel. Several other notes are mentioned by the perfumer, but I couldn't detect any of them specifically in those first few hours, as the marine note is so dominant. It eventually mellowed out and then all I really got was a generic floral scent, perhaps the mentioned "rose" and "iris". Not unpleasant, but not particularly interesting either. Hints of it remained for 14 hours as a skin scent. I do find it an interesting and unusual fragrance for the first eight hours or so, but I'm not convinced that I like it enough to buy a full bottle. It doesn't really evolve in a progressive way; it does what it does and it does it well, but it's not enough for me. I also struggle to see what sort of occasion I’d wear this type of scent for. UPDATE: Smelling the atomizer, I'm amazed to find a strong and quite lovely, light rose note, with no aquatic at all. Rose is not typically a note that I like, but this I do. If it had dried down on my skin like that, after say six hours, my view would be far more positive. Tested: 1ml decant Seasons / Occasions: Spring through to late summer. Informal. Key thoughts: Realistic ocean breeze. Interesting, but hard to see wear I'd wear it. Overall rating: 7/10 Buy full bottle: Undecided

Upon application, the fragrance greets you with a fresh and aquatic aroma that is lightly peppery, accompanied by a hint of salt. It reminds me of the scent you catch when you're hit by ocean mist—that slightly salty aroma that doesn't quite qualify as a scent, but is unmistakable when you're in the right environment. After about 15 minutes, the oceanic smell becomes more pronounced, revealing a seaweed-like note. If you grew up by the ocean, you’ll recognize this scent—it’s that green, salty fragrance you get when walking past a pile of seaweed on the beach. Don't worry; it doesn't smell unpleasant. It's a light and pleasant scent of seaweed that is oddly comforting. The fragrance projected about two feet from my skin for the first hour. After that, it became more intimate, sitting closer to my skin and lasting for about four hours, followed by a faint scent that lingered for one additional hour. My thoughts on Sailing Day are mixed. Do I like the aroma? Yes, I do. It evokes memories of growing up by the ocean in my youth, which is exactly what it promises to do. However, it is situational because I don't always want to smell like seaweed.

#1240 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I feel the same about this as I feel about Bvlgari "Aqva pour Homme" and Clean "Summer Sailing." Makes me wish I still lived on Puget Sound when I could borrow my first Sergeant's Buccaneer 320 and sail up to Salty's for Sunday brunch with whoever stayed Saturday night. This is a very aquatic and clean scent, bright, sharp and aromatic. But like all bright aromatic scents, it's a very mediocre performer. You get a few hours out of this. I would think less than that in hot and/or windy weather. I suspect if I applied this before launching, by the time we docked at the restaurant it would barely still be a skin scent. But if you own any of the Maison Margiela's you've found yourself wondering why they don't reformulate their scents as EDPs. Especially "Jazz Club", "By the Fireplace", "At the Barber's." They're pretty pricey for EDTs. Anyway, this is a nice summer scent, versatile for any use in any setting. Clean "Summer Sailing" is hard to find now, even on eBay, so I'd recommend for this vibe you stick with Bvlgari Aqva. It's pretty much same-same and $30 cheaper.

I have to start by saying this fragrance smells amazing, and honestly it is unique. Even tho there are many fresh and clean fragrances, this one is different. The notes are amazing and it smells like high quality for sure. For me the overall smell is really nostalgic and reminds me of my vacation in the ionian sea. And that's where the good news end... Sadly this fragrance does not last more than 3 hours. Maybe if you overspray it will. It lasts a lil bit longer in linen and cotton shirts tho. The projection is near non existing sadly, but that's not the point of this fragrance. Aside from all that it is definitely worth it if you know what you are buying it for. Not to show off, not to necessarily turn heads but to smell great and kind of "old money" with a twist. A huge note here for the ones who consider buying it. It is expensive for its performance and honestly you can find subjectively better scents for that price point. Considering all things above. It's a great one for me and for my needs, even tho I wish it lasted longer.

This can be unisex, and I am comfortable wearing it but I'm flexible in that, but I can see how some may think it is decidedly masculine, especially on the opening. This would be an easy reach for anyone who tends to like watery, oceanic men's fragrances or may enjoy a light, airy iteration of that profile. When it begins to dry down it has a delicious fruity sweet quality. Further along rose becomes more obvious and it even begins to lean more feminine. Hours on is when the saltiness is most apparent to me. I seem to like this more going further along through the wear time, and longevity is pretty good. When I was doing my first wear test of this I was wearing white cotton and I spent a warm and breezy May afternoon reading a book on my balcony which felt appropriate. I would wear this on an outing to an oceanfront strip, or when I wish I was there.

My first fragrance, a good mistake. It's great for beach days, pool days, and maybe even the gym. What sucks is the price and the lackluster performance. It'll last as long as an afternoon at the beach or pool, and that's being generous. The scent itself is really nice, and sometimes when I mix it with coconut body lotion it brings out a sort of warm watermelon scent. I find myself over spraying this a lot to make up for the poor performance, and now just keep it as an air freshener for my room, closet, and car. A really expensive and nice-smelling air freshener. If you need to use afterpay for this, just stay away.

A lovely, yet predictable aquatic with a minimal degree of development over its lifespan. The story might end there, but what truly stands out about this one is the longevity. Most (if not all) aquatics are wanting in the longevity department, and typically don't last any longer than a Lord of the Rings movie. But Sailing Day is unique in that it lasts for a significant portion of the day. Granted, it doesn't develop much beyond how it begins, but the length of time that it lasts is genuinely remarkable. I have extremely high hopes come summer when I do look to my lighter scents to last longer and project well.

This would make more sense and should have been called Freshwater Sailing Day. Personally I don’t pick up on the ‘Sea notes’ too much, Like the ones commonly found in your ADG/Cool Water. However, absolutely yes to Water Notes. In fact i would describe it as Water, Ozone and Aldehydes all together in a bottle. Very much a second skin type of fragrance. Almost smells like something in your imagination. Aqua, aqua, aqua, aqua Would only recommend in high temperatures due to its not so good performance. Buy if you love ‘fantasy fragrances’, such as myself.

I can't understand why this is getting hate? It smells awesome its just a marine scent. If you don't like marine scents just say that and leave. Its not an "awful" perfume, it is just marine and some people don't like marine but it doesn't make it awful. Its well blended and if you love marine scents this one is a great one and I recommend it. It doesn't smell like"fish" like one person said?? it just smells like lemons, and the sea and its fresh and clean. The bad reviews are just people complaining who don't like marine scents, NEXT!

really like this. very marine, airy, salty. smells like a fresh breeze. performance seems to be weak to moderate to me, also i don't think it's a very unique smell overall. but it really is very classy and elegant and thoroughly enjoyable. very hard for me to pick out the notes in this but i definitely get the airyness and saltiness which i love. don't usually enjoy to label frags as gendered but do think this is actually almnost entirely male. smells like a rich dude at a yacht club bar

First whiff + Wet is a very masculine deep blue ocean scent. As it dries down, it gets a bit more sweet (that could be my skin chemistry) and fresh. I have no idea how anyone was able to put a chili pepper in this mix and come out with anything oceanic, but it works. While the dry down is still masculine leaning, I see the unisex appeal in this. Pleasant, inoffensive, fresh, marine, non-linear (in a good way), great silage and longevity. I like it on me, but I'd prefer it on a man.

This smells like an aquatic themed bubble bath, but not in a bad way! It’s like the bubble bath that would come with your complimentary amenities while staying at a luxurious costal resort. A place where the skies are always grey and the mornings are misty, and the sound of chilly waves crashing seems to follow wherever you go. I felt calmed and refreshed all at once upon smelling it. May have to keep in my car like our great grandmothers carried smelling salts

I regret selling this. At the time when I got this, I wasn't a huge fan, now I tried it again, and it is really nice. Smells like going to the beach, and getting hit with a breeze of salty air. I really like it, airy, fresh and clean. Sadly the only downside to this fragrance, and every other Maison Margiela is the performance, and this is one of the worser ones, lasts 4 hours if you are lucky. Overall, great scent which brings me back memories. 7/10
