Soul Of The Forest

The scent profile of Soul of the Forest can probably be best described by comparing it to Autumn Vibes. Where Autumn Vibes can be described as a deciduous forest in early autumn morning with dewey wet orange leaves on the ground, Soul of the forest is more of a coniferous forest. The oakmoss and paminto in the top notes, combined with fir and tree sap in the mid give it a very pleasant piney smell, and throw in the incense and the group of notes gives a slightly camphor-like accord. There is a slight cumin accord, no doubt formed by that group of notes. But its yet another example of that cumin accord used well. It will pair well with Autumn Vibes in my collection. The drydown gives off slight vibes of Houbigant Bois Mystique, probably due to the cedar and incense notes common to the two. Update: I just sprayed Penhaligon Terrible Teddy on card and its giving me Vibes of Soul of the Forest on steroids. Update2: Now that I have become acquainted with Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles, I can say it's not very similar to Soul of the Forest. The coniferous and incense accords in Soul of the Forest are deeper, richer, more prominent. The fruity accord is more prominent than the dried fruits of Fille en Aiguilles. All of these accords are relegated to the background of Fille en Aiguilles, and it seems the vetiver is pronounced. Fille en Aiguilles is more non-coniferous woody. A dry, dusty woodiness.

TL;DR: I am tree, and tree is me. Life is good. Blind buy full bottle worthy. @archiephillips already got one shoutout, but I'll give him another and repeat the parts of his review that I agree with: "The opening is incredible, and the best part of the fragrance. Green and sappy fir with rugged cedar, alongside a tinge of dark blackcurrant. As far as I am concerned, Soul of the Forest captures the smell of nature pretty well. It's not quite photo-realistic, but this smells far more natural than synthetic...The replica series of fragrances can be very hit and miss, but this is a hit for me. It's definitely my favourite forest scent I have come across thus far." I am truly grateful that I cannot detect any pimento--I already got an olfactory assault of freshly sliced green bell pepper and jalapeno with MMM's "Wicked Love", and I am not keen on repeating that experience anytime soon. Unlike @theymightbejenny, I actually found mine for less than current Replica retail (despite it being discontinued) in the good ole' often murky waters of Ebay, and I have no reason to suspect that it's fake. I could not find any decants or travel sprays, so I went ahead and blind bought a full bottle, and I am glad that the risk paid off. I agree that longevity isn't great, but it's such a beautiful scent, and for a reasonable enough price that I can forgive the 4-5 hour longevity.

I've been on the hunt for a forest scent that is truly unisex, and this is the one! I agree with everything archiephillips said. All the other forest-y/pine scents I've tried generally fall into one of two categories: 1. smoky and/or overly masculine (Serge Lutens Filles en Aiguilles [smoky masc], IA Cape Heartache [smoky masc], Ineke Idyllwild [barbershop masc]) or 2. cloyingly fruity to the point that it overtakes the pine (Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest, Olympic Orchids Blackbird). This scent opens with a burst of freshness - there's pine needles here, as well as mossy rocks, and tree sap. Nothing synthetic to my nose - this is a beautifully authentic, crisp air, walk-in-the-woods experience. For my fellow dirt lovers, there's no loam in here, but it's still very forest-floor. The drydown is like an actual pine wood plank - drier than the opening, but still woodsy and natural. Even though it's listed above as a note, I don't get any incense or smoke in this, which I think is what keeps it from leaning too masculine. Performance isn't outstanding, but I prefer softer, skin scents so that's a plus for me. Because the drydown is a bit linear and soft, this layers well (with Demeter Dirt, for example). It's expensive and discontinued, but I have yet to sniff anything that comes remotely close, so it was worth the hunt. Hopefully they re-release it.

First 15 minutes are absolutely exceptional, but its magic is fleeting and it turns into a more polite and agreeable resinous skin scent fairly quick. I don't really understand why all of Replica's eau de parfums are priced more than the clear bottle line when they have the same longevity and sillage as the eau de toilettes. They just have more abstract names and come in a black glass bottle instead of a clear one, but otherwise they might as well be one and the same. The beginning of this smells like a true high-end niche. There's rich, damp moss, resinous and slightly sweet tree sap, I can almost smell wet earth. But there's also a very head shop feel thanks to incense and patchouli. It's somewhere in between your dad's aftershave and a hippie patchouli deodorant, but in the most elegant possible way. Smells very expensive and truly unisex. Then, at an incredibly quick pace, it mellows into a woody balsamic "your skin but better" scent, with faint whispers of burnt incense. And that dry down is also truly beautiful, but less strikingly one-of-a-kind and also far below expectations for this kind of price. Would likely be full bottle worthy if it was priced like the eau de toilettes, but it's a really hard ask at the inflated price for the black bottle line and an even harder ask at what prices it's going on eBay these days. Jeez.

I wanted to buy this for my son because he is a nature lover and loves to take walks in the woods, especially since he came back from a beautiful summer trip in Scandinavia where he spent a lot of time in various forests. I read about this beauty on here after it had been discontinued, as it often happens, but I managed to track down a bottle at a somewhat reasonable price. The bottle was new but the box was not sealed, so I don't know how much the fragrance has been affected from the original intent. This is what I got: The opening is very, very minty! It's so minty that it is a bit harsh, however that only lasts for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then it settles down into the soft fir and cedar. The woods is what projects the most. It's truly is such a comforting scent at this state. It's clean, woodsy, and a little powdery, especially as the journey comes to the drydown stage. I consider this to be a masculine fragrance but it could definitely work for a woman who prefers clean scents. Longevity isn't stellar but that's typical of Replica EDTs. My son's final veredict? He said, "It smells like Finland!" as he sniffed his arm over and over in sheer delight. So I would say it is a definite success.

Gorgeoussssss! The only note I know and could pick out is the balsam fir. The heart of this forest. I do pick up the sweet and spicy pimento top note but it’s so subtle so it adds the perfect “peppery” touch. I really like the sweetness from the maple syrup as it’s more of a dry maple scent, not sickly sweet at all. The black currant is refreshing and again, not too juicy and wet, but more dry and enticing. The dry down starts to remind me of smarties candies. Not powdery or chalky but that subtle sweet tartness that’s nostalgic and mouthwatering. The cedar is a strong base character throughout the life of the event which is always a favorite note. Very unisex, and I would say a safe blind buy for a woodsy, feminine-scent loving person. Would be nice to smell on a man but feel like it leans slightly more feminine.

This is one of my all time favorite, if not my favorite perfume I have smelled. It gives me extremely nostalgic vibes of being in Lake Placid and the Adirondacks. This smells like the blanket or fuzzy coat section of an LL Bean. The sap and woods mixed with the pimento gives it that sweet spicy and slightly smoky bite you get from wet leaves or like a fireplace in a log cabin with a fuzzy blanket; not smoky enough for a campfire but it's got a very nice edge to it. This perfectly encapsulates happy fall memories like jumping into a leaf pile, or walking in a small town during that transitional phase between Halloween and Christmas. I personally don't have performance issues like other people claim, I think people just need to stop spraying in areas where your nose is constantly stimulated!!

Excellent fragrance It is indeed pine (or I guess balsam) heavy, quite natural smelling. I thought I was detecting some whisper of citrus in there somewhere but now looking at the notes that must be the black current. Very nice. Dries down into a slightly sweet slightly smokey green leathery peppery woody concoction One reviewer said it’s an exact copy of memoir man.. I disagree. It’s vaguely similar after it dries down, could say it’s in the same category of scent, but that’s really it. Memoir is photorealistic mint and wormwood, this is pretty natural but not quite photorealistic balsam. Please don’t get this thinking it’s exactly like memoir, you will be disappointed. Amouage is in a different league. But this is nice. A love even. Artistic but wearable. Well done.

In the hopes that Maison Martin Margiela will bring this back, I’m gonna write a review. The reason I haven’t yet is because I find it hard to describe. First off, this is my favorite fragrance. This is my signature fragrance. The notes are blended so well that what you get is an accord, not notes. I really can’t tell you exactly what it smells like. And that’s why I wasn’t gonna write a review. But please!, bring this back. Ineke Idyllwild is similar to an extent. It’s missing something that this has, resulting in a more feminine fragrance, perhaps the oak moss and/or labdanum. Also, it’s missing the maple sap, and therefore lacks sweetness. If you’re a guy, check out Terrible Teddy. Soul of the Forest is really truly unisex.

They took the air from the forests of the Pacific Northwest, turned it into a magic potion, and bottled it. That's the only explanation I can think of, because this smells like a cool, damp forest. It's gorgeous. It doesn't even smell like perfume to me. This is the truest replica scent that Replica has ever produced, in my opinion. I've only ever tested this in a store, so I don't know about the sillage or longevity. I'm dying for a bottle of this; I want to smell like I've just come in from a long walk through woods, smelling of ferns and moss and trees and the damp ground, with the mist still clinging to my hair.

all notes are fresh, no hint of dustiness or oud— it’s a cold breeze, fragrant trees in summer rain. the pepper is a wonderful complement to the turpenes, the drunken sap, the grounding cedar, the smooth fresh moss. i’m amazed; if you want to smell like a forest prince, this is the scent for you. definitely unisex, leaning toward masculine in its palette. (one last note: the pine in this is novel & doesn’t read as “car freshener” — it’s instead an exclusive pine scent i’ve nvr encountered before)

This is easily my favorite from Margiela, with a great fresh woods vibe and almost zero sweetness. Could have been a really nice alternative to French Lover for me, but the poor longevity and projection here are unforgivable (it's not similar to FL but is in the same genre). I want an extrait version! update: I guess the longevity wasn't unforgivable because I ended up purchasing a bottle anyways and love it! Still wish it lasted a bit longer, but longevity is a bit better than I first thought.

I love this!! Smells like resinous, woody, Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum-like with a small touch of leather-like scent. Very appealing!! Manly! Don't expect a lot of sillage (arm's length) nor staying power (4 hours for me about on clothes) for the price, which is a shame. But wow!! Very nice scent still!! Reminds me A BIT of Creed's Spice and Wood... which I freakin LOVE!!! For the price, Soul Of The Forest is worth it if you don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for the Creed.

For me, this is an absolute masterpiece. This is a dark mysterious forest. This is the scent I chose to wear when I went to the cinema to watch Nosferatu. Is has this deep woody aspect to it, completed by the green and camphorous aspect of fir with a touch of fruitiness and sweetness. This is one if my favourite scents. I would only wear this at night honestly but you can use it during the day as well. Again... for me personally, MASTERPIECE.

overpriced for what it is love this scent, however was expecting it to be more complex than it is. that said, i reach for it very often because of how pine foresty it smells on me, no car freshener here, but for the price the longevity is pretty disappointing. would probably search for a more complex less expensive alternative before rebuying. all that aside, once you get past the juniper blast opening, it is a very comforting scent.

Amazing sappy wood with a slight spice to it and a moderate amount of berry in the opening. Expensive smelling (and expensive), to me it’s not 100% forest green but it’s like a nice berry plantation inside / near the forest. Because it’s not just leaves earth and wood, the black currant adds some modernity. It really is amazing and lasts forever. Not a blind buy for most as it’s not at all mass appealing, but it is distinct. Unisex.

This fella does smell like a forest. It is very accurate that it smells like the "soul of the forest". Reminds me of a pine tree forest in the late evening in the light rain. Very nice smelling if forests smell nice to you. The only problem is that its performance is not great for an EDP. However, it can be worn in a lot of situations so it is versatile. If you wanna smell like a pine tree forest get this.

One of the best smelling perfumes ever in my personal opinion but with a major minus: a very weak longevity. Unless you're ok with reapplying it every 3 hours, the price doesn't justify its performance. I really hope they'll release it again one with a better longevity. And I do hope they'll keep the same name because it does justice. It feels like a northern forest with black currents and cedar.

Personally i love this fragrance but i think some ppl might dislike this if u dont like natural or woody scents then this might not be for u but if u do u should defo get this, this cologne smells like u rin a dark rainy woods (on my skin) and i love it! Its so nice woody i could see alot of ppl liking this to, and if u do rock this its more of a springy fall scent. rating: 9/10 (my opinion)

This is a really nice one from MMM Replica! It leaned a bit masculine for me, so I gave it to my fiancée. It suits his personality (very outdoorsy in the summer) and smells divine on him ♡. It definitely makes me lean in close ;) He wears it to his office job and the longevity is very good at 8+ hours. I would recommend if you like woodsy scents.

Have only tried one other in the series, Across Sands, and while it was good, Soul of the Forest is much much better.

just got my decant today and oh mamma! Opening is sharp on the fir and patchouli and very spicy. The dry down is HEAVENLY. a walk in the forest after a storm. sappy cedar, fresh oak and wet moss. I will wear this but it’s definitely unisex leaning more masculine. It’s delicious, an experience on its own. Will be on a lookout for a full bottle.

I loved this at first sniff. So much like Clean Reseve avantgarden collection “sweet briar and moss” who’s sadly is discontinued now. Forest for sure. Deep damp and spicy, definitely unisex. This is an absolute gem IMO. Smoky and Sweet. I love the incense! One of my favorites along with Jubilation XXV, TF Ombré Leather, Arabian Oud Kalemat/Kalemat Black and Oud Saphir. Yes, I like Soul of the Forest that much. I have no issues with longevity with Soul of the Forest. I easily get 10 hours plus.

Very Green Man. Very Twin Peaks. For me there's definitely fresh notes at the top, cut grass. Wet foliage. Balsam fir following you all the way to the woody, a bit smoky dry down. Green green green, aromatic, woody. Unisex, leaning more masc. I think I need this in my collection.

exactly like a coniferous forest, very woody, dark and sexy, drydown is a little masculine, not blind buy safe because it's less perfume more realistic tree smell but I absolutely recommend it for its uniqueness and quality

This is life!!!! I absolutely love this scent. I get the Balsam Fir and the Cedar. I find it to be a fairly strong scent with lasting power. It radiates several feet and I only put on one spray.

Smells amazing, but that doesnt cover the fact that both sillage and longevity is very weak. Too bad, it's a pretty scent. My tip: save your money, it is'nt Worth the price imo.

I'm a sucker for anything that smells like trees and nature. I purchased a decant hoping to fall in love. And i *am* in love with it, just not on my skin... I'm also a bit of a snob when it comes to "forest scents" because i literally live in a valley that has forests / mountains on either side of me. I am spoiled by my daily walks of being surrounded by pines and firs and cedars and birch and oak and maples etc etc etc... Anyway. This smells like crap on my body chemistry. It's way better on my husband than on me. Two completely different experiences. I have a very low body temperature, dry skin, and a naturally salty 'oniony' body odor when i sweat (probably because I eat so much garlic lol). The opening smelled like juniper and pine mixed with nail polish remover and windex. It was bordering on ammonia / pissy on me. I don't smell the maple sap on my skin. I just get a screechy 'minty' peppery, green fir and then a soft cedar after several hours. My husband is the complete opposite of me; warm body temperature, a naturally musky earthy body odor, and greasy skin. My goodness, it is SO cozy on him. Aromatic and fresh but not too vegetal or peppery. Sweet wood and leather. Cozy amber. I was skeptical about smelling maple sap (because even when we boil maple sap down into syrup during tree tapping season, it's not a super strong smell. You have to stick your nose in the pot) but there was a faint smell of pancakes in his skin too. This fragrance is like staying at a friend's cabin (or my house, basically) on a cool spring weekend. You overslept and finally roll out of bed and make waffles for brunch and eat them out on the porch that overlooks a green mountainside. I would LOVE to have this as a candle or reed diffuser just to add to the ambiance when friends & family come visit me. I guess I'll just over-spray my husband whenever we have company.

Opens with currant and fir, with the currant highlighting the slightly fruity aspect to fir needles (a la Filles en Aiguilles, but fresher). Next, I get a strong pimento note, with fir, cedar and synthetic oakmoss. I think the pepper is the BO scent that people are talking about - I actually love pepper notes though, and it is reminiscent of the actual peppery/BO note in woodsmoke. Think of the smell that your clothing gets from sitting around the fire - the pepper note in Soul of the Forest is a toned down callback to that scent. Despite this, it is not a smoky scent. There's a hint of smoke but it's mostly a cedar/pepper scent with a little fir, oakmoss and maybe patchouli in the background. It has a quality of airiness, as if you are in the forest and smelling your surroundings - maybe a touch of ozone-synthetics. It's not as harsh as Norne, which is the smell of breaking fir needles in your hand and sniffing them up close. I don't think they're that similar; Soul of the Forest is more commercial and easier to wear. With the cedar and pepper, this one is closer to Comme des Garcons Wonderwood. Overall, I like it - I feel like the inclusion of the weird pepper note keeps it interesting when it could have been just another cedar scent. Projection isn't great, and the scent doesn't have a great longevity except for the cedar/pepper that stays on your skin for a long time. But it's a solid offering from a house that often goes wonky on my skin.

The opening of Soul of The Forest appears quite sweet and fruity on my skin. That said, the black currant doesn't display any jammy or ammonia-like quality, but rather pertains a tart edge, and feels dry and balmy thanks to the balsam fir. Sprinkles of pimento whispers an earthy, green, fresh spiciness, which makes the fir-fruity accord more invigorating. The incense here is sparkling, clean pine-like, which makes a lovely companion alongside the balsam fir. Soul of The Forest doesn't have any dramatic change. Only the focus shifts from fruity cassis to balsam fir with time, and the fragrance remains a lightweight, occasionally green peppery, mildly sweet coniferous skin scent. The sillage is always close to the skin, and the longevity is around 7 hours. On the one hand, Soul of The Forest is very smooth and enjoyable to my nose; on the other hand, it reminds me of a handful of fragrances inspired by conifer forests or featuring prominent conifer notes. Soul of The Forest is much more streamlined and more abstract in comparison, and somehow feels more like a clever construct of a few aromachemicals than imitating rich, complexe natural essences. This modern, simplistic approach is very much in line with the MMM brand, which makes Soul of The Forest a solid offering to those who enjoy abstract, transparent woody fruity fragrances, and a lovely gateway soft coniferous fragrance to those who are concerned about its possible masculine connotation.

What I like about Soul of the Forest is that it does not go the incense route, which many pine/fir fragrances have an annoying habit of doing. They end up smelling like a forest fire, or just incense with pine in their somewhere. The smokiness is not prominent here, and it dries down very woody instead - much more like an actual forest. The performance is quite poor, but this isn't a scent I would want to project all that much. The replica series of fragrances can be very hit and miss, but this is a hit for me. It's definitely my favourite forest scent I have come across thus far. I like it a lot, potentially bottle-worthy. (dislike/indifferent/like, but not BW/ like a lot, potentially BW/love, definitely BW/masterpiece)

Soul of the Forest is one of the more conceptual releases in the Replica line, aiming to recreate the feeling of a dense, ancient forest rather than a conventional “wearable” scent. Found a soulmate for Souls of The Forest. I hated SOTF and could never layer it with anything. Then Boom, this mix came up accidentally while I was with a friend. Shoutout to Bisola for this. Combining "Souls of the Forest" and "By the Fireplace," creates a unique and multifaceted scent experience. "Souls of the Forest" offers an earthy, woody fragrance with green, mossy undertones, evoking a fresh, serene woodland atmosphere. "By the Fireplace" provides a contrasting warmth with smoky, sweet, and spicy notes, reminiscent of a cozy and smoky Marshmallow. Blending these two fragrances results in a harmonious balance of freshness and warmth, where the forest's crispness complements the comforting, fiery embrace, producing an enveloping, complex aroma that is both invigorating and soothing. Grassy herbal and a little bit sweet light blackcurrant opening, more on the edge of the forest than deep within it here. This opens up a bit to be a little stronger after the initial spray I guess with the more resinous aspects warming up and it starts to feel a little spicy, and the grassy start drops to a deeper forest fir scent. Its not as bold as say Tom Ford Vert D'Encens that is truly like being in the middle of a green coniferous forest but this is a also very good. If I wanted to take a trip to the outdoors while being indoors and had both bottles in front of me I'd pick the TF, but if I had to buy one of them I might go with the Replica; You get double the amount (and its not a false economy here they both perform) and it is 3/4 the cost. That said, I would say Soul of the Forest is unisex and more accessible due to its sweeter and softer aspects, whereas the TF stays quite masculine throughout.

The ancient forest trope seems to be a pretty popular theme among indie perfumers these days. So I'm frankly a bit surprised that a designer/fashion label backed by a big commercial brand name decides to trudge down the same path. Soul of the Forest gives a graceful nod to Slumberhouse's Norne and Alkemia's Ydalir. I have to say (grudgingly) that it's very well done. As an introduction to prehistoric woodlands suffused with thick smells of resin, sap, pine and lumber, it will do. While Norne is dark from the hemlock and incense, and Ydalir is rugged from heavy handling of the birch, Soul is pretty, unoffensive and wearable. It is also very sweet from the maple sap and labdanum, so beware if you can't take sweetness. As for me personally, this perfume is a well worn path and I'll stick to the ones I already have and love .

a very warm green. surprisingly sweet with smoky bitter undertones yet not quite bittersweet. very pleasant though it's the kind of pleasant that almost feels like it shouldn't be worn as a perfume, but perhaps rather admired as the first thing that graces your nose as you walk through your wealthy friend's front door during Christmas season. someone else said it reminds them heavily of memoir man, which is a personal favorite of mine. I'd say memoir man minus its sasparilla-esque herbal/spicy/vanilla quality that I find endearing. my girlfriend didn't like it, saying it was very sharp to her nose, and I can see that being a possibility. feel like I'll only wear it at home this winter season when I want to stay in or maybe on solo library outings. idk, there's something fantastical about it

I may have just spilt my sample on me. Not sorry. It's definitely woodsy. To state the obvious. I feel like this is the olfactory equivalent to hiking through a pine forest. You smell the sap. You smell the pine and fir trees. You smell the green air. It's strong, yet calming and invigorating. You have to be careful, though - in the wrong crowd, you might be thought of as a poor imitation of a car air freshener. Other cons: - It's wallet-crumblingly pricy (MMM 'Replica: Fantasy' range typically cost $AUS220 for a 100ml bottle). - It doesn't have outstanding longevity. It does die down to something quietly intoxicating, but - yet again - this makes me very happy as I have a particular love of forests! YAY NATURE! *** Kitty rating: 7/10.

Edit: 4/23/26 Wore it for a couple days. Doesn't last long in the slightest. On clothes it leans into the balsamic fir and earthy bits as your body heats up. Not a miss for me, but it's making me question my next purchase from this house. Fresh out of the box, first spray on paper - immediately, I get the fir and honey. A soft peppery spicy with a smoky finish rounds back to the balsam in a smooth and mature way. On skin, that honey and fruity open come in strong with the fir and spicy mossy mid, landing sweeter and more incens on the dry. That fir still holding. Maybe it's just that it's a new bottle.. but I can tell I'll need to overspray this one to get some pop. This is a very subtle but heavier scent, for sure.

This really does start to smell like a forest in the drydown, and there is something about it that I can't help but find really damn sexy... And then I realized why that is. Some people mentioned that this has a certain BO vibe, and I realized that I agree with this, but not in a bad way. In fact that's what I find so sexy about it, because it pretty much smells to me like a young woman in a forest on a sunny summer day, and she's starting to get a bit sweaty. Not in a funky way, but in a natural, summery way. So it basically smells like fresh forest with a hint of salty female skin. Wonderful! I'll have to try wearing this a couple of more times to see if it feels to feminine for me... But it sure does smell nice.

I had realy high hopes for this one being a Fir scent lover . It starts of very promising with blaccurrant and fir swet fruity and jummy And yes i was thinking in line of Vagabond prince enchanted forest at first . But very quikcly the top notes fades and al im left with are as some one else sayed , wood carvings and dry dusty wood ,almost a bit cardboard on my skin . I Totaly love the opening but its the dry down i have to live with in the end and this is not as good on my skin. i did not have any problems with longevity .This lasted a good 5-8 hours on my skin . alhough it gets closer to skin in the end . IMO the top notes are a unisex style scent .the drydown more masculin

This one is nice, but it reminds me of a car deodorizer more than anything. The best way to describe it is a generic citrus with the scent of pine needles pushed to the front. It's not unpleasant, it's just that I've smelled it or something similar before probably 10+ times. But, more concerning than the lack of imagination is the fact that this scent doesn't last, even as a skin scent. I get probably an hour max from it, and then I need to decide if I want to reapply or switch to something else. There's no way this is an EDP...even Tom Ford and Jo Malone have better longevity and they wrote the book on crappy longevity. Very disappointed. 2 down, 2 to go.
