Under The Lemon Tree

Edit: I’ve used up the travel spray already, so bought a full size bottle. I keep coming back to it and it’s not even hot here yet. My Original review: I quite liked this. This is the only fragrance I have bought from a magazine sampler in 60 years of life. And I only bought it because it came in rollerball size and Sephora had a sale. I am glad I did, however. My favorite scent for my hot summer climate (over 100 degrees) is Neroli Portofino combined with 4711. So I often look for summer scents in that vein, although not necessarily Neroli. Of course, I have Light Blue , which is an okay scent but rather uninteresting to me. I have several of Hermes single note scents as well, but sometimes you want to go to s summer garden party or wedding and have a bit more complexity. I think Under the Lemon Tree gives you that. It is not a lemon fragrance. It does evoke sitting under a lemon tree in the summer, smelling green grass, weeds around (coriander), a hint of citrus and musk. As it dries down, you get the most beautiful cedar fragrance. It’s no secret that I like a perfume with a cedar drydown, and this does not disappoint. It has a beautiful finish, with cedar adding woods and coriander adding freshness. That is why I bought it. As for longevity, so far I’ve only worn it half a day, so it’s hard to say. Spillage is not intense but that isn’t what I want when it’s 100 degrees out anyway. If it ends up being a skin scent, I’ll be fine. In winter I like to leave a trail, in summer just smell fresh, clean and for those who get close, interesting. It manages to be light and airy and serious all at once. Seeing how my spray goes this summer, I may buy the full bottle, although I’m starting to look like a hoarder! Neroli Portofino will always be by summer favorite and maybe overall favorite fragrance, but as we all know, performance is poor. I’d be nice to find a good hot-weather fragrance that has some staying power. And in rollerball size, I can take it with me and add if necessary. Very nice. This brand is starting to make some lovely fragrances.

A period of stupidity happened back in 2022. I so happened to bought a MM Replica sample pack for $95 NZD! I could dedicate this review to the entire Replica series, but I’ll dedicate this to the best one. Under the Lemon Tree, by namesake, sounds cheap at first. That was because of my prior experience with Moschino Fresh Couture, which left an eww impression on citrus. While my mind was lemons equals cheap cleaning liquids, the Lemon Tree blew my mind upon first whiff. The combination of tea and spice did the unfathomable work of raising the citrus’s value from $2 to $2,000! Even more so when I was sore loser on the fact that this lil bright green 2ml was not the Matcha Meditation I wanted. Under the Lemon Tree not only changed my thoughts on citrus scents, but also sealed my love for the Replica series and made itself home within my good memories of mid 2022. Back when I was reading about Ancient Greece and see how well it will go with a project about autism. It was weird but it was fun. Especially when I’ve sprayed on the pages of the book in question and oh boy was I teleported to a country house of somebody’s yiayia’s. Under the Lemon Tree, sitting together and discussing about Ancient Greece’s influence on Ancient Rome and then our Western Civilisation. We then switched the topic to autism spectrum disorders (ASD) - a rather niche but a low topic. The simplicity of the ripe lemons and complexities of the spicy Greek tea she served. From high topic to the low and the cheap to the expensive. The low humbles the high and the high glorifies the low. Other replica samples did just that but Under the Lemon Tree does it better!

This review is based on a spray sample. Years ago, I stepped off of a plane in Ben Gurion airport. There was an amazing scent that greeted me. I found out later that this was the smell of a lemon grove in blossom. I thought that this is what angels would smell like if they came down from heaven. Since then, I have been keeping an eye out for something that smelled like this. My first encounter with such a fragrance was Le Labo Bergamote 22. It was too expensive for its performance. I found that Commodity Moss was an approximation to Bergamote 22 but was too green. It made the heady citrus blossom note dirty, and this kept me away. I told an SA at Sephora about my experience with the lemon grove and she said "aha" and went and grabbed a tester of Under the Lemon Trees. After one spray, I found that correct balance that I was looking for at the right price. The lemon is approximated by the bergamot, bitter, not sweet. And the blossom is captured by the lemony petitgrain and hint of rose. Just after applying, it goes well beyond arm's reach and this lasts for more than an hour. After about 2-3 hours it becomes closer. I spray some on my clothes and hair so it projects longer than that. It does last long enough this way for me to be able to still smell it at the end of the day. And the price for a travel spray justifies me getting it. My wife loves this. My son doesn't like orangy citrus type perfumes. But this one, he does like.

LOVE this a lot!! I got a tester set for my last Christmas, and have been slowly going through each vial with the corresponding season they match. As soon as I smelled this when I sprayed it back in the spring, I became obsessed with it. I was half expecting lemon pledge, something harsh and kind of artificial and not pleasing. But what you get instead is expensive lemons with a soft, floral undertone and woodsy notes. This is by far my favorite of my Maison Margiela tester set, and I am definitely thinking about buying a full bottle. The only real issue I have with this is it's performance. It doesn't have very much longevity, doesn't have much sillage, becoming a skin scent fairly quickly. When I say I'm thinking about getting one, the fact that this is a fairly pricey fragrance for a pretty unsatisfactory performance isn't really helping it's case. This gives me a confidence other fragrances haven't been able to. Even though it might be a bit cursed on me, seeing as I wore this to multiple job interviews and didn't get any of them, I really enjoy this and it makes me feel ways that other fragrances, including other Maison Margiela fragrances, haven't been able to do.

I’ve seen quite a few reviews saying that the scent smells like insect repellent or detergent, things like that. And it’s true that the top notes are quite strong at first. Personally, they don’t bother me because they fade almost immediately, at least on my skin. After that, the middle and base notes are absolutely wonderful. I think the perfume has excellent longevity and a nice sillage as well. That intense citrus opening quickly disappears, leaving behind an incredibly lovely scent that’s fresh, clean, and not overpowering at all. That said, this is definitely a fragrance you need to let develop for a while to see how it actually smells on your skin. Even though, as I mentioned before, the top notes don’t bother me, I completely understand why some people might find them unpleasant or associate them with other smells. In fact, they actually remind me of a mojito. Overall, I think it’s a truly delicious fragrance. You just have to give it a little time to settle.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you NEED to try this fragrance. I am being so serious, it might be one of the most understated frags in the top 10% of fragrances ever made. Opposed to something like DG Light Blue which does freshly sliced lemons, this is quite literally "under the lemon tree"; super oudoors-y, beautiful verdant citron. At first, I underrated it as a strong 8/10 because I kept asking myself, "this is amazing but does this really do anything better than Hermes Eau de Citron Noir?" Yes. Absolutely. The quality of this scent is leagues beyond, even in the Replica line itself this is #3 with the only better scents being By the Fireplace and arguably Jazz Club. If you already have Citron Noir, maybe you don't need a second bottle of this but if you ever run out, skip the refill and pick this up instead. Go ahead and smell 100 random frags under $200 then smell this, you will IMMEDIATELY notice the quality difference.

This is the best maison margiela scent that I have at the moment. I love anything that smells like I just stepped into a beautiful place, this is the most beautiful lemon grove. It’s soapy and sweet and clean and juicy. I get a small amount of something edible, maybe it’s the cilantro but it just gives more depth. And the light musk ties it all together and prevents it from becoming too cheap or immature. It opens so vibrant and real then after 10 ish minutes becomes an expensive, creamy lemon soap. This is the only scent that’s replaced my Tea Escape from maison margiela. Longevity-6 hours Projection-moderate Overall-9.5/10 EDIT I’ve given my bottle to some of my friends to smell and they all say it has a very masculine scent from the bottle. When I let them smell my wrist or clothes they say it’s very feminine, it’s definitly a unisex fragrance!

This smells like a week on the shore with 9 of your favorite people. It smells like reading a romance novel and giggling while your best friend rolls their eyes. It smells like sitting shoulder-to-shoulder-shoulder-to-shoulder-to-shoulder on the porch, laughing so hard your bones hurt. It’s nighttime on the boardwalk, walking to the end of the island and waving at the lights of the mainland, playing soccer on the wet sand with the high school kids from Philadelphia. It’s the boy you love sitting across the way, and a boy who loves you sitting on the other end of the couch. It’s young and carefree and happy, even if it’s just for the week.

big fan of this one, might be my favorite end of spring/summer fragrance I have so far. super fresh and refreshing, I've gotten a ton of compliments with it. it's very lime/citrusy with notes of green tea and lemongrass, and the lemongrass especially brings back some childhood memories. it's not super long lasting, but when it starts fading the notes shift a little, hard to describe but it's really pleasant, it's like it goes out on a sweet note. price feels pretty fair for how much you get, you get a good amount of product and since it's mostly a seasonal fragrance, you're not going through it year round, so it'll last you a long time

This is frankly a very feminine, unique citrusy tea scent. It opens with a spicy lime while quickly becoming a sweeter lime and making way for the rose note. The dry down is simply a warm, sweet tea. Neither the lime, nor the tea are photorealistic notes, though. It feels like you slowly swing in a hammock beneath the lemon trees while the sun shines bright. You sip a sweet green tea, then as the sun slowly sets behind the warm summer horizon you’re calm and eventually fall asleep with a small bouquet of subtle roses by your side. It’s what summer smells like, at least to me.

Lovely citrus lemon scent, good for everyday wear in summers and autumns. Generic, definitely not for everybody. You either love it or it is meh to you. In my opinion it is the best out of Maison Margiela fragrances, not a fan of Jazz club or By The Fireplace. Longevity lacks, can withstand only half a day, but sillage is pretty good. Simple and sharp, but quite pricey for what you get. If you love lemons and limes it is a very safe blind buy, it isn’t ground breaking or a roller coaster of an experience, just a good limey fragrances for daily wear 5/5 if you can afford it

I love this so much as a fruity scent type of girl. It's citrusy but not acidic. Very fresh, clean, breezy, summery, a tiny bit sweet, no tartness. I have gotten many compliments and questions about what I was wearing while having it on. But it only lasts 2 hours max on me. I have seen people saying it smells like cleaning products but in my experience, it doesn't smell like them at all. It's too sweet and not lemony enough to smell like cleaning sprays.

Lovely fragrance, my favourite from the brand. It's subtle, clean, fresh and completely unisex, the longevity is great for a citrus fragrance. The green citrusy feeling is so uplifting. Doesn't smell like cleaning products at all, not even in the opening like most citrus fragrances. Reminds me a little of a hotel soap I smelled when I was a kid which I loved. But don't get me wrong, it's not soapy at all, the soap just smelled like this.

This fragrance is exactly as its called. It smells like lemons with a woody undertone. It is not a very complicated citrus. A perfect summer scent. Reminds me of summers in Italy near the coast. I keep smelling my wrist when i have it on. It lasts for 3-4 hours on me, so not that long but that is of course common with citrus fragrances. Projection is fine, but definitly not a beastmode perfume. To me it is definitly worth the splurge.

Liked this much more than I would expect out of the fragrances in the MM discovery set. It opens with lime which starts out very strong and pungent (a bit overwhelming at first) but immediately starts to settle into this lovely aromatic scent, enveloping tea, cardamom and mate. As some commenter described it, it suggests a lemon ice tea. Perfect for a hot summer day. Lasts decently on skin, and have gotten some compliments from it.

Love this. It's a fresh, sharp citrus and then you get the woody scent with a little musk, It's really light and fresh and a little bit herbal. Some lemons remind me of cleaning products but this manages to avoid that. Perfect for summer. I got a bunch of this brand's samples and I think this is the one that I will go for in full size. I will say the longevity on my skin is quite poor but on clothes it lasted for hours.

At first spray it does smell like lemon, but after that you can tell it's not. Don't know why they'd not put lemon in a lemon-named fragrance? Anyway the lime is nice but comes off a little bitter instead of sour, the tea is grounding and soothing. Smells like a citrus tea with a little bit of earthiness, and I get the rock rose faintly. It reminds me of a less grassy Wulong Cha. Straight up unisex.

This fragrance is damn near amazing, it’s literally lemonade in a bottle it’s so good I don’t know how to describe it it’s perfect for summer days out and unisex this fragrance is a 9.8 out of 10 and one of my favorites in my collection I highly recommend this to girls and younger guys get this and I promise you’ll be happy thank you for reading and have an amazing day ❤️

Got this in a Replica discovery kit and I've fallen in love. This is a light citrus scent that isn't too strong or overpowering. This is a great daily wear and I think this is perfect for an office setting. It doesn't have the best longevity or sillage but I'll trade that for how much I like the scent.

what i wouldn't give for this to last a bit longer it's a nice, fresh, citrusy fragrance whose tea notes i absolutely adore while not anything revolutionary, it stands as it's own unique little thing and makes for an incredible clean unisex summer/spring scent that i personally do not regret purchasing
