Brownie Pop

Oh----weeee this is good. Gourmand lover is checking in. This passes the test! Gone head to the front of the class and get your gold sticker, your shiny read apple, and pick out which book you want to take home as your prize. This one takes the cake for sure. This smells like Chocolate Queen and What About Pop had a baby. It's addictive. It's long lasting. It makes you smile. It's not overly sweet. Its like undutched powdered cocoa on top of nuts in the organic market for $18.99/lb. It's labeled as imported from Belgium even though this was harvested, fermented, dried, roasted, and mixed with tired brown hands in West Africa. The mid has the soft essence of popcorn but not that movie popcorn with synthetic carcinogenic orange liquid butter they have in America that's banned in other smart developed nations. (I'm definitely on my soap box here) This is South Carolina, great grandma, share cropper, elbow grease, put-your-foot-in-it churned butter, melted on fresh hot corn bread that Jiffy WISH THEY COULD goodness. This is cast iron gas stove no indoor plumbing, pick your switch, someday we gone make it over, down home, Sundays best smooth & delectable butter on pop. Make sure you put this on skin. Make sure you WEAR IT WELL. Wash, polish, moisturize...prep your surface and then go ham! I want a full bottle. Can you tell?

First thing I’m gonna say is that this smells nothing like a brownie. I only get chocolate for the first 30 seconds of the dry down, and overall the strongest note is hazelnut with a hint of biscuit and popcorn. VERY reminiscent of SDJ Cheirosa ‘71. I start getting some sandalwood after about 30 minutes which fades after a couple of hours and brings out the brown sugar. Has moderate sillage and lasts all day and more. In terms of perfumes listed as similar— ❌ by/ rosie jane Dulce: I’m nose blind to this so it obviously doesn’t smell similar to me ❌ Chabaud Lait de Biscuit: a simple biscuit and vanilla scent, not nutty at all ❌ GDT Bianco Latte: a thick and creamy caramel and coumarin fragrance ❌ Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit: very ginger heavy, nowhere near as nutty ❌ Montale Chocolate Greedy: isn’t nutty at all and remains chocolate heavy through the entire wear ❌ Pierre Guillaume Musc Maori: very sour, nowhere near as sweet or nutty ❌ Shay & Blue Salt Caramel: smells like salty sandalwood ❌ Vivamor Caramel Pop: much more caramel and popcorn heavy with distict chestnut

Brownie Pop was love at first whiff for me. From the moment I put it on, I was enveloped by the aroma of freshly baked cookies and warm brownies straight from the oven. As someone who loves realistic gourmand fragrances, this is exactly what I hope for when I reach for a dessert-inspired scent. What wows me most is just how photorealistic it smells. Many fragrances claim to capture the essence of baked goods, but Brownie Pop REALLY delivers. It's rich, indulgent, and seriously mouthwatering. I also find it to be beautifully balanced as well. The sweet elements are complemented by subtle savoury nuances, giving it depth and makes it surprisingly wearable despite its decadence. I've received numerous compliments while wearing Brownie Pop, too. People seem really drawn to the warm, comforting scent trail it leaves. If you're a gourmand lover, I consider Brownie Pop a must-try. It captures fresh-baked treats better than almost any other fragrance I've experienced, and it has quickly become one of my favourites.

Sampling Maison Mataha Brownie Pop, one of the house’s three releases, all gourmands so far, the first I tried being Escapade Gourmande. Brownie Pop is fittingly a mix of brownie and buttery, caramel popcorn, quite well done, sweet with just enough salt for credibility, but quite warm, interesting, and inviting—realistic yet pleasant to wear. It’s an instant winner of a gourmand, in my opinion, a must-try for gourmand lovers, like Escapade Gourmand. It’s neither too heavily chocolately nor an obsessive popcorn blend but rather a harmonious pairing between the two that, while not extremely loud, performs quit well, and I love the value. It’s extrait concentration and priced at $215 for 100ml, sold at boutiques in the US like Perfumology and Luckyscent, among others. I think this value is very good nowadays for wearable, high-quality juice, and I’ve not smelled something quite like this, so I give it plenty of credit for uniqueness, also. 8 out of 10

If you like (or kind of like but wish it was better) Chocolate Greedy by Montale, Sticky Popcorn by Jousset, Crème Brûlée by Theodoros Kalotinis or Cheirosa'71 by Sol de Janeiro, chances are you will love this one. It is also much higher quality, more complex, rich and delicious than Montale, not as salty and body mist like as SdJ, more rich and less salty than Jousset and less coconuty/more biscuity than Kalotinis. It is certainly worth the price, as althout not groundbreaking or novel scent, it is super delicious and very good quality (no off putting silly or synthetic notes), and also has superb longevity. The biscuit is the strongest note to me, along with vanilla, then followed by brown sugar, chocolate and popcorn. It is not as strongly popcorn or brownie forward as I expected, also not much of hazelnut. And although not listed, I get a hint of sweet toasted coconut which is lovely.

An exciting opening of sharp hazelnut and biscuit, the scent then changes into a warm, rich, chocolate brownie with a drizzle of popcorn. It just blends so well together. The dry down of sandalwood brings balance and calmness, leaving a beautiful, cosy, vanilla trail. I was most surprised at the depth of this and how I adored both the opening and dry down, equally the same. I can’t get enough of Brownie Pop, it’s absolutely delightful!

The chocolate and hazelnut dominates for the first minute or so, then the popcorn begins to appear. Becomes intimate within 10 mins. I would wear this lightly in the summer. This doesn’t smell like Chocolate Greedy at all. Chocolate Greedy has that Orange Chocolate thing going on. This smells really delicious, I don’t think it’s worth the price point because it doesn’t last. Hours has passed and it’s turned powdery. 🧍♀️

The chocolate note in this is the star of the show... amazing! Some of the most photorealistic chocolate I've smelled, like you took a fresh batch of brownies and drizzled chocolate syrup on top. I was worried about the popcorn note but it is thankfully also delicious, and takes a backseat to the chocolate, simply serving to add a toasty note instead of remaining recognizable as popcorn in the drydown.

Because who says chocolate is only for dessert? Brownie Pop has bottled the experience of fresh out of the oven gooey chocolate brownies. Creamy melting chocolate, buttery biscuit & toasted nuttiness. The ingredients blend together for a sweet and luscious treat. Every spray is an explosion of warmth, comfort, and nostalgia.

Very good. I get mostly brownies and hazelnut, and not much popcorn, but I love it! Not too sweet and especially as it dries down, it becomes very wearable for someone like me who's not into wearing gourmands too often. Dense and rich, and smells of high quality. Longevity seems alright as well.

It is nice, I get slice of brownie with mint on top. There is no mint in notes but it is so realistic. This is the only chocolate fragrance I can wear. I hate chocolate note to be honest, but here its different. Cant explain that is the different, but its really lovely.

Similar to one of the reviews below, I am also getting (what I detect as) a very odd mint note in this. It's not unpleasant, but I suppose my skin makes this more like mint brownies. 😄 I think I might like this, but need to test more.

I absolutely ADORE the samples I got of this. So warm, hazelnutty & chocolate-y. Didn't come off as artifical or chemical smelling to me personally.

I was a bit worried this was going to be a heavy brownie scent but it isn’t. I can smell all the notes, but they are beautifully blended. I get the chocolate hazelnut brownie in the opening, then the cream and toffee/caramel popcorn. It’s absolutely gorgeous! I was looking for a popcorn scent that wasn’t too OTT and this is it for me! It does remind me of Sol de Janeiro 62 & 71. This was just an instant love at first sniff for me! Ive ordered a full bottle. It’s a gorgeous, comforting, warm hug in cool weather scent. It is sweet, but I definitely think a man could pull this one off too. This is absolutely a new favourite for me! I’d also recommend giving Evaison Bon Bon a try on your skin! That one isn’t something I’d have normally gone for and I’d planned to pass on, but it took me by surprise! Evaison Bon Bon is a very realistic strawberry and cream hard candy scent, or nostalgic “Cream Savers” scent. It’s absolutely addictive! I ended up buying that as well. I also have Escapade Gourmand, which was already one of my top vanilla/caramel perfumes, but I love both of these new releases! ❤️ I can’t wait to see what Maison Mataha do next!

Oh instant BIG smile! This opens with a very realistic gourmand profile of nutty chocolate brownie, quickly followed by a clear and unmistakable popcorn note. The popcorn is impressively accurate and really does become a defining feature of the scent. For me, this stays firmly in 'food representation' territory. It’s fun, playful, and really very well done, but it also unapologetically smells like dessert/snacks, rather than 'perfume'. Absolutely worth sampling if this is your kinda vibe, it is a super happy scent!

The opening is A Bit Too Much for me, but it settles down quite nicely. The opening blast is powdery chocolate and it dries down to nuts, vanilla, popcorn and somehow a bit of mint. It doesn’t smell like Chocolate Greedy to me (it had a chocolate orange cereal smell for me), but maybe a tolerable version of Cheirosa 71 (which I intensely dislike). Lasts a good while; I cannot complain about the performance! All in all - not a blind buy. Worth sampling to ensure you love it before splashing the cash.

I'm not sure about the Sol De Janeiro 71 comparison, but Brownie Pop does resemble Montale's Chocolate Greedy... except Montale has far better longevity and projection. Brownie Pop is a yummy salted chocolate brownie perfume that has a woody, tame dry down. It's smooth and delicious, but a total skin scent with no projection. I prefer Escapade Gourmande, and I already own Chocolate Greedy...so will pass on this release Definitely try before you buy!

Try this on your skin, on paper strip it feels overwhelming and too much while on skin it balances out into such a decadent and comfy ultimate gourmand experience. On those days when you don`t care for being chick or polished or professional but just want a simple pleasure of high carb foods in the shape of scent. I`m working from home in my PJ today, low energy so I just crave comfort in any shape and form and this scent delivers big time. Yummy.

In the opening it smells exactly like Cheirosa 71 which is my favourite gourmand. It has more chocolate though, but to me it's still not as chocolatey as I expected based on the name. I also get a biscuit note but it's not as prominent as in Cafe des Delices for example. It's a realistic baked good smell, not synthetic, with some nutty and coconut notes, but not necessarily brownie to me.

I really like this one but for the money I think I could find this cheaper. My husband said it smells like a graham cracker to him but I smell the brownie smell. I might try to find a good dupe for this one but I'm def ordering Chocolate greedy to compare to this one while I still have my tester sample.

100% agree with everything @GrenadeGirl says Pretty equal parts hazelnut, popcorn and chocolate...it's fun, mouth-watering and very gourmand. There is something comforting and cozy about it. But I cannot imagine a time I'd want to smell like this.

Fresh pandan waffle with coconut drizzle. I get a spot on visual of this dessert instead of brownies, chocolate, or hazelnut, though freshly cooked pandan does emit some of that nuttiness. It’s just more coconuty to me than anything else.

the chocolate or whatever is immediately strong but i can smell popcorn under it too. smells like a cafe, and i actually really like it but it's more of a time and place scent, not a daily. a little juvenile but fun!

it smells like sol de janeiro 71! mix of popcorn, cookies, buttery, sweet, desserty. i cant imagine wearing it but i really enjoyed smelling it on the paper.

This smells like the Christmas cookie Yankee candle to me! Much nicer than the evasion bonbon which is not nice to me at all.

Smells like coconut biscuit on my skin.

I get a faint smell of biscuit and chocolate. If sprayed onto clothes It smells like popcorn and hazelnuts inside a teenaged boy’s bedroom full of sweaty gym socks because only the popcorn is the note that’s dominant and doesn’t dry down. Popcorn is a musty note to my nose anyway. On the skin, it’s an ok scent once the popcorn note fades a bit. This scent could really be amazing if the notes of hazelnut and popcorn were dialed down a bit and the chocolate, biscuit and vanilla were amped up a bit more. So disappointed 😔

The opening is like an acridly sour bag of stale, unground coffee beans. It starts to fade as it dries down, thankfully, just in time for it to morph into ~ eau de "warm air venting out of the back of a gas station coffee machine" ~ Not sure why I get coffee end to end with this one. Maybe it's the burnt-ness of the popcorn note. By the time I get to enjoy the actual chocolate notes, it's fading SO fast. I'm not sure. Need more time to sit with this one...

This perfume was pretty good but nothing compared to escapade gormounde which is literally my favorite perfume ever. It was better than the strawberry one for sure but I don’t think I would buy the whole bottle. It does smell very like browny and salty and edible so if you like chocolate leaning perfumes you would probably really like this but I would definitely recommend to get a sample and not blind buy it.

Upon first spray, this is pleasant-- I'm picking up the essence of an almond joy candy bar. It is also toasty and cocoa-powdery. Within a few minutes, the scent almost completely disappears. If I sniff as hard as I possibly can, I do understand the brownie concept, but it's so faint. I'm not noseblind, because no one else in the house can smell it either. This could be great if it was 10 times stronger.

I LOVE Escapade Gourmand so I was really excited to try this one and ordered a sample. Unfortunately I was disappointed. A weird minty note appeared on my skin. I can barely feel any note except that mint 😅 I don’t feel any sense of chocolate/brownies except the first minute, then it goes away. Cant detect any popcorn scent either!

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I was scared of the popcorn note, but to me this comes off as toasted coconut brownie. Like the crispy edges of the a brownie specifically. My only complaint is longevity isn’t there which is a bummer because I love the opening. Not FB worthy for the price but I did enjoy my sample.

Realistic scent. I can literally pick up the ingredients of a real brownie, especially vanilla sugar. I do not necessarily want to smell like a cake tho, even as a gourmand enjoyer.

The drydown is nice, but the opening is not good. Too fake chocolate-y. Maison Tahite's Vicious Cacao is my choice when I want a realistic chocolate. I'll pass on this one.

Ugh. This is rough. It’s so overwhelmingly chocolate and powdered cocoa. All I get is burnt brown sugar, butter powdered cocoa, and chocolate. There’s just no way I’d want to smell like this or be close to someone who smells like it. Coming from a girl who has pretty much every food scent from Snif and loves this whole company. This one was a no for me.

was so disappointed by this because i was a HUGE fan of escapade gourmand... all i could smell was that super synthetic chocolate note and it was like burnt plastic on my skin. i know it’s probably just my skin chemistry because i had the same issue with bianco latte but it still makes me so sad!

If the goal is chocolate popcorn, then call it that. Bland, boring, and weak.

Smells like an opened bag of stale doritos 🤮

This scent pissed me off so much that I remembered my Fragrantica password after forgetting it for 2 years. I ran out of rubbing alcohol, so I wiped it off my body with vodka 😭 On my skin, this is the dryest-smelling scent I have ever put on my body; it almost smells like stale popcorn that fell under the couch a month ago. After a few minutes, I do get a bit of chocolate, but on my skin, you get predominantly the dryness of the biscuits/popcorn/sandalwood combo. I was kinda expecting more of a toasted chocolate scent based on some of the reviews I was seeing, so I am sorely disappointed 😭

Got this as a free tester alongside some other samples I'd purchased and I could tell just from the name that I wasn't going to be a fan. Didn't expect to dislike it quite this much though! Incredibly heavy and synthetic, and it just smells exactly like brownie/cake flavoured vape juice to me. It does improve slightly on the dry down, but I still can't get over that fake synthetic vape juice smell

Brownie Pop is thick brownie chocolate with heavy sweet depth - and it does smell exactly like chocolate, just the synthetic kind. There's a completely synthetic buttery popcorn quality that lingers and a faint chocolate drydown that's almost interesting, but the overall effect is sweet, linear and a little overwhelming.

If you vape, this one smells just like those fake chocolate vape flavours. And some people do like them since they keep being made, I wont try this on skin. Big no for me, but if you like chocolate vape flavours this will be perfect for you!

I was shaking with excitement ordering this perfume as a chocolate perfume lover but for some reason all I can smell is coconut and it genuinely shatters my soul and I hate the smell of coconut

wrote a longer review for evasion bonbon, it’s in my history if you’d like to read it before purchasing! i was more excited for evasion bonbon then brownie pop, but I ended up liking brownie pop more. now being completely transparent, I usually don’t love chocolate that much, especially in fragrances (I do love brownies though which is strange) so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this. this fragrance smells so so so similar to Hayal from Katana Parfums. it's a bit sweeter with the chocolate note. but they both have the same nutty, rice-like quality. I’m pretty sure that it’s coming from the sandalwood, hazelnut, and biscuit notes here in brownie pop. if you don’t like hazelnut, be careful with this one. hazelnut is one of the stars of this scent and it might throw you off. I get a very gentle chocolate here, warm, fresh out the oven. rich and surprisingly airy. the popcorn is pretty subtle so you might only pick it up if you’re looking for it. i do get brown sugar, but just a little bit (if you’re expecting vanilla 28 vibes, look elsewhere, or layer). it’s mainly the sandalwood and hazelnut here. it’s not super sugary or overly sweet — it’s more nutty & woody. I actually think this could be worn daily. I find it to be sophisticated, surprisingly clean, and comforting. it reminds me of a desert and dessert at the same time, don't ask me lol. this layered with escapade gourmand is incredible. i think maison mataha should seriously consider combining both scents into one unique fragrance. not a safe blind buy either, but safer to buy than evasion bonbon IMO. not sure if i would purchase either of these again if I finish the bottles, but I would (and will) repurchase escapade gourmand. she's still the supreme. the house has a lot of potential. escapade gourmand is SO good and SO appealing that their other fragrances will have a very hard time rivaling it. the bar was set quite high. but i'm seated. I’ll update after a week to see if my thoughts change.

Oh lordy me, it's like wearing a warm hug of deliciousness! Brownie Pop, to my nose is far better that Jousset's Sticky Popcorn, for something of the same price range. You know that moment when you walk into a bakery, and you smell those freshly baked brownies and popcorns? Yeah, Brownie Pop smells just like that, it's insane! It instantly transported me to my favourite cosy café, and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. But hold on, there's more! There's a surprise twist in this fragrance. As it develops, you start getting hints of caramelised popcorn, which makes it feel like you're at the movies, munching on some yummy snacks. It's so much fun! And don't worry, it's not too sweet or overpowering (after a few minutes). The geniuses at Maison Mataha blended in some sandalwood and vanilla to balance everything out. The result is a sophisticated, creamy scent that's totally addictive. I get about 6+ hours of wear out of Brownie Pop, with people around me noticing and complimenting the delicious aroma. If you're into gourmand fragrances, you've got to give this one a try. Trust me, if you're into popcorn or foodie notes, your nose will thank you! Don't think about what others say, you buy the perfume, for you, from your own pocket and hard-earned money, not for others to say something about it. But be warned, one spray is enough to turn heads; it's a nuclear projection.
