Eau De Nostradamus

I found this charming perfumery while walking through the village of Vézelay in The Bourgogne region of France. And discovered while at home the perfume is made by a fellow Belgian lady. This particular one is a dark, gothic rose with musk. I thought I didn't like musk much as a scentnote but in here I do love it. This is a rose from another time, something dark and opulent and very fitting for a perfume made from one of Nostradamus's recipes. I personally love it. Strangely enough it is marked as for men but I think it runs more feminine with its deep, dark and sweet rose. Unisex would be the better term.

Another gorgeous creation from Maison Nicolas de Barry. Barry's creations never disappoint. You can truly smell the quality of ingredients that go into every one of his compositions. Eau de Nostradamus features a strong rose note, reminiscent of the type of rose one would find in Serge Lutens' Sa Majeste La Rose and Perfumer Workshop's Tea Rose. An interesting mix of rose that is simultaneously natural, perfumey, tarte, and sweet. Something else, maybe the amber, imparts a sweet and slightly powdery quality. The musk in this composition brings all these facets together, fuses with the skin and breathes life into the wearer. The spices exist but I can't pick a single one out. I agree that this scent is reminiscent of Diamonds and Rubies, but with a much higher quality rose. Eau de Nostradamus smells a bit vintage, though, and definitely a shapeshifter. Sometimes gothic, sometimes glamour and pin-up and old Hollywood movie star. It's interesting that this was the creation associated with Nostradamus - astrologer, physician, and diviner. I'd imagine something more cryptic created for the prophet, though the image evoked by a perfume is a matter of the wearer. On me it's ultimately a sweet, musky, spiced-but-not-spicy, powdery rose. It could definitely be worn comfortably while studying in the cold crypts of Hogwarts or on Christmas Eve.
