Spicy Calabria

What a new and pleasant sensation. Spicy Calabria makes an impression by feeling so comfortable against the skin, even before the scent hits my nose. Now I wish all my perfumes are water based. What do I smell? Top: Forest air. Ginger, lime & bitters. Whisky sour. Heart: Warmed spice. Lemon cream. Incense wood chips. Powdery rose. Ginger tea. Dry-down: Dried soft woods. Amber. Rose water. Spicy Calabria is unexpectedly fragrant given it is 78% water. It imparts a powerful but smooth nose feel. Very natural smelling. Performance is good compared with most alcohol based scents. This scent skews masculine, but the oud accord and spice mix is not overwhelming. The entirety is layered and well blended. The notes reveal themselves quickly, making for complex and at times busy top and heart phases. Overall, Spicy Calabria is vivid and punchy to start, the freshness lasting beyond the review of woods and warm spices, making for a very interesting olfactory experience. The zesty top is a fantastic showcase of green zest and fresh greens. The heart is a matured and elegant version of Spicebomb and Montale scents. The base is wonderfully woody, floated by amber and receding rose. Immensely wearable, not just for the nose, but for the skin too - the water, olive oil and vitamin E carrier feels nourishing, and does not cause any burning or dryness. Suitable for most occasions and all but the coldest days, Spicy Calabria represents a new perfume experience, and is very much worth trying.

It's a perfume with an incredible development on skin. Starts with a lemonade-like juicy lime and other citruses. Sparkling with ginger bubbles and a grounding tartness of artemisia. So at this point it's juicy citrusy and sparkling. And then the oud comes out. It is a very unusual combination - oud and citruses that are there simultaneously. I don't know how they did it, but it's stunning. The oud is not aggressive though, it is instantly recognizable, dark and deep, but smooth and non-animalic. Very stylish, modern and niche! It blends with the skin, creating a new experience. The water-based emulsion technology of Maison Sybarite is a true innovation that is a must-try!

This one had my head spinning in such a good way... 3 sprays. It started as wet wood, funky, earthy citrus with a mysterious crisp menthol note. So much damp earthiness going on with the bitter & wood & the dank & I dont know what to make of it all. 10 mins. Dark, aged wood, and a beautiful leathery (old, dark) note emerges. 30 mins. It changes again... the oud settles, a tiny bit of sweetness. It refines. Holy shit it’s gorgeous. Masculine, classy, but not pretentious, genuine, confident, rugged with a gentle center. It’s so intriguing & interesting, but I couldn’t pull it off successfully (even as a female who often wears masculine leaning fragrances) So good.

I bought their discovery set and this, together with 720, really caught my olfactory attention. This, so far, is definitely my favourite. It's quite strong, (though I did spray it twice on my wrists), so possibly not ideal for an office situation, but it has a wonderful warm, spicy (unsurprisingly) scent that gradually dries down to a subtle leathery, woody note that is still very noticeable 6 hours later. I think this leans more masculine, but I love it so much I may ignore that fact but be more sparing on application. Pleasingly I was complimented on the fragrance and this when I was outside. I'll be interested to see how it fairs in cooler weather.

How did you make this combination? It's crazy. It's such a sexy smell. OMG !! This is a niche perfume drawn with a refined sense. I just found out about these brand products, and I'm surprised to see them performance and balance like this.

This is the best creation from the house, the mix of citruses and oud is quite lovely.

I received a random sample of Spicy Calabria with a purchase. I hadn't previously heard of the brand, but seemingly they specialise in alcohol-free, water-based scents. The liquid in my vial is curiously milky, echoing @Cherry_Darling's question below - something I haven't encountered before. The scent itself is a herbal-woody affair, laced with rich, warm spices. It is unisex, despite being labelled as masculine. It is a warm, comforting scent, made with natural-smelling ingredients. SC opens with damp herbal notes, led by bitter wormwood. Some citrus gives a fresh lift to the opening. Warm spices follow, rounding out this scent. I get cinnamon in particular, adding warm sweetness. The damp herbal notes give way to a dry woody-amber accord as it progresses, led by soft, woody oud that is not too animalic or overpowering. The spices remain, complementing this phase beautifully too. There is a lovely incense note that emerges as it dries down - dry, smoky and balsamic. A little perfectly-judged patchouli adds earthiness to the drydown. It fades to a musky, woody skin scent with spices remaining until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A deeply pleasant, smooth and well-rounded woody-amber-spicy scent with a restorative herbal opening, SC is a comforting, natural-smelling scent. It is also one of the most versatile scents I've tried - unisex, year-round, day or night-ready. I didn't know what to expect, but I really liked this. I just wish the performance was better - it fades fast. 4/5.

This is a nice fresh spicy woody scent but for a man. My husband will get this sample. It has a crisp lime and a bit of a mentholated sigh in the beginning of the fragrance but as it develops it becomes very spicy. Ginger and black pepper really dominate. As it goes on further it becomes an oud scent but a nice oud. This is not a barnyard oud, a very wearable nice oud but masculine. This is also slightly earthy as well but not overly so. A nice year round fragrance for a man except in extreme heat.

Love its texture on the skin. Bright mix of spices and incense. I can detect some bitter ginger. The citrus is spiced up but I can feel a little citrusy sourness and zestiness. The base is ambery and woody, but not overwhelming. I guess it also works for women as well. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

I wrote an email to the house and they sent me free samples! So far I have tried this and Opulent Wood. But I love this one! I want it. It’s really gorgeous. Roses and spices.. very nice. I can’t believe it has oud. I don’t smell it! Now that I know there is ginger I can tell that it has, but without knowing, it’s just a very pleasant blend. Gonna get it. Update: I ordered it and now I have it! I really love it and the feeling of the water+emulsified oils is really nice on my skin. It has a good sillage and longevity. The sprayer is extra good. Love it! I hope to try another someday.

Is the juice of this perfume supposed to be white? Never seen that before but it is an official sample...:) To me this is quite skanky. Starts citrussy and woodsy but quickly turns a little fecal / saliva / body odor. It has to be that oud, it's putting me off. i think this is one for anyone who may enjoy these kinds of ouds, I may be a bit sensitive to it today but it's really coming across like a musty funky body odor from the nether regions :/ Mixed with citruses and woods which are nice but :/ :/

Only sniffed this but had an instant wow factor, a modern twist on a winter deep spicy scent . Must try on skin next opportunity hopefully the longevity and projection are as impressive.
