Velvet Coffee

Sampling Maison Tahite Velvet Coffee, my final try of their most recent coffee quartet, a blended creamy coffee scent the sweetness of which is toned down by the addition of a variety of elements like sandalwood, leather, and patchouli. As with most of the coffee scents, it’s not really a gourmand, nor is coffee especially dominant, but coffee is still a prominent, noticeable part of the mix. I think it’s a pleasant blend, overall, less powdery than I Ristretto and a little more of a muted down alternative to that, all together. Certainly I’d recommend sampling this and the other coffee scents, though, which I purchased in discovery scent on Luckyscent but that is unfortunately currently sold out. Like the rest of the house, Velvet Coffee is priced at $115 for 100ml, in EDP concentration, very reasonable pricing for niche/independent house, and is sold at Luckyscent and a couple of other boutiques in the US. 7 out of 10

It’s spicy and peppery and powdery. Velvet coffee is the same feeling I get when I walk into a jazz club on in new orleans. You walk up to the bar and order a bourbon cocktail, subtle and warming. This scent isn’t overwhelming and it certainly doesn’t last forever. It’s the smoke of a candle in the bathroom. Reminds me of tobacco vanille, but slightly more tasteful and gender neutral. Somehow a gourmand, but the sweetness is just the flavor used to balance everything else out. Velvet Coffee not quite coffee but it is the smell I would want my barista be wearing. I don’t quite want to take a bite out of it but I might sip on it. The scent is getting a little too sloppy at night and reapplying the same eyeliner the next morning. It’s getting a warm cup of chai with oat milk and sitting on a porch in the drizzling rain. It’s moody and understated.

Well this is a funny one on me - the opening was almost spiced cough syrup, rounding within a minute or two to a full on 'CARDAMOM!' punch, then settle back into a full on dusty spice vibe. It's nice, actually, but at no point did the coffee come through on me, so this'll definitely be skin chemistry sensitive. Pleasant? Absolutely! Wearable?.. not really for me, it is just a bit too 'literally walking into a spice shop with wooden shelves'. Lol

Warm, creamy amberwoods with a frothy blend of "velvety" soft powder & spice. The iris and carrot lend an earthy powderiness, the coffee and cacao complement one another like a mocha latte, while the cardamom adds a fresh spicy kick. Soft projection for 2-3hr, longevity 12hr+.

It’s nice for layering but it’s too weak to wow anyone on its own. I definitely do like its embodiment of “richness” tho. It’s a sexy richness.

This is a great fragrance at a good price IF it works with your chemistry. For me it does not. All I get is a savory, salty sandalwood with a touch of acidity and I am not fond of it. However, it did project well (for me, I like a moderate projection) for several hours and I could still smell it when I woke up. Lasted about 9 hours. It's not an awful scent but it's not what I'm looking for. Could be my sample wasn't great. But if it works for you, then it's a good performer for the price and would be very worth it :) I hoped for more coffee and chocolate from the name of it. Worth sampling but do not blind buy

Not velvet at all. Very dry and woody, without creaminess on me :( Also, I don’t get much coffee, it’s more about spicy slightly dirty Vetiver. Encore from Teo Cabanel is waaay better, smells like carrot pie, but not too sweet, try that one better.

Gross. I get cardamom and coffee. Neither of which I am a fan of.

☕🌿 MBTI: INFP, INFJ ☕🌿 Another misnomer from the Maison Tahite collection - they should have named this "Herbal Coffee" and it would've gotten the right kind of attention. Velvet implies musk and freshness in my mind so - maybe don't take a dirty chocolatey herbal scent and call it so, hm? ☕🌿 It is cardamom/patchouli coffee! It's a dupe for Caravansérail Intense by Nicolai Parfumeur, which is niche enough to the point where even using a word 'dupe' feels like a scam. This feels like something that the old hippie Lush would put out, albeit it is much too weak. ☕🌿 But yeah, cardamom, a drop of citrus and cocoa over a strong coffee accord. It doesn't really smell like a cup of joe itself - but frankly i quite enjoy this one. It's a chocolate-y patchouli that isn't overly rank, and the cardamom and citrus don't assault me. Dries down and smells like i put chocolate scented lotion on my skin. ☕🌿 ☕🌿 Weak and not for everyone, but herbal/unique and enjoyable tbh. ☕🌿

This is a strange perfume- not gourmand or even coffee. It’s a smoky, woody perfume. It feels like being in a room where a fire was lit the night before. It is perfume for autumnal mornings, foggy walks followed by warm spicy drinks (maybe spiced, smoked tea). I like it but if you want coffee perfumes you better test this first. It is gender neutral and sillage is quite minimal which I like. It is a cool, contemplative perfume.

Gorgeous opening; reminds me of Bewitching Yasmine. The carrot note in the dry down is really not working for me. It gets unpleasantly vegetal and smells more of boiled carrots than than gorgeous sort of starchy powdery carrot note I tend to enjoy. On a side note, Cacao Porcelano from Atelier Materi had the same offputting molecule in its drydown as well.

It's a pretty, gentle, powdery cardamom/coffee/cocoa fragrance. It's not sweet enough for me to consider it a gourmand, especially with the inclusion of the wood notes. The overall scent is soft and cozy, but projection is so poor that I would not consider buying it at this price point. I'll use up my sample for sure, but when it's gone, it's gone.

Boy oh boy has Maison Tahité been a complete disappointment for me. Newborn spitup for Vanilla2. Generic red candle for Tonka Rogue. Smoking ashes for Vanilla Park, blah leather for Vicious Cacao. And now Velvet Coffee, almost an exact dupe of Vicious Cacao, just swap out the coffee for the cacao. The scent DNA on my skin is practically identical.

Goes on nicely; definitely more dry woody notes than coffee, but it's good. But after a few minutes this weird sour vegetal note comes out and ruins it for me.

Sickly sweet, synthetic and cloying.
