Nuée Bleue

The perfume Nuée Bleue (Blue Cloud, in English) was created in the 1950s and represented Maison Violet's last breath in the midst of a period of reconstruction in France. It is part of the legacy that lay dormant for decades until the company's revival in 2017. Nuée Bleue was relaunched in 2019 and once again featured the talent of perfumer Nathalie Lorson (who also signs other fragrances for the house). Its fragrance was imagined as the calm before the storm. And to represent this cloud blowing the humid freshness, notes of bergamot, lemon, and orange blossom were combined in the head. Then, the carnation flower and the iris absolute make up the central part, while the base brings benzoin, sandalwood, and white musk. On the skin, Nuée Bleue does not hide many mysteries and reveals itself as a fragrance that is easy to decipher. Basically, it is a powdery floral, whose iris reigns absolute, elegant, and well supported by the other ingredients. Obviously, the opening is more vibrant and citrusy and the orange blossom gives a luminous content, representing the sun, which always shines above the clouds. Then, the iris explodes and shows its dry and powdery facets, without ever losing tenderness. For me, the highlight of this creation is the fact that, normally, fragrances with a very evident iris note make me think of shades of purple. But here, the color is white and clear, pushing me to a deeper stage, when the creamy sandalwood emerges and the musk reinforces the soapy effect that remains on the skin. Over the hours, Nuée Bleue reveals itself as the classics of a time in the perfumery universe, when powdery fragrances represented social status, romanticism, and femininity. Over the decades, this olfactory profile has survived and adapted, getting rid of absurd doses of aldehydes and gaining touches of modernity. Nuée Bleue is the right bet for those who already know this timeless style, who have already been enchanted by fragrances from brands such as Guerlain or Prada and are now part of a more demanding public, which in addition to not worrying about the commercial barriers of gender, also seeks concept, history, and quality when buying new perfumes. Finally, Nuée Bleue has a style of poetry, like those that are published on the internet on a background image containing rain on the window.

I really appreciate that Maison Violet offered a sample of Nuee Bleue when it first released for just 2 euros to those on the email list - I think that's a great idea for all brands try so that people can easily try the newest release. I look forward to trying their future releases if they continue with the same policy. When I first sprayed this on, I was immediately reminded of my beloved Prada Infusion d'Iris. There is a lot of bergamot in this fragrance, and lemon which I smell in the opening. Very fresh, and "frosty." Then begins a beautiful blending of orange blossom and iris, so intertwined you sometimes get a dash of orange but then you chase it back into cold iris petals. Thank you, Elena, for writing a splendid article on this perfume - she described it perfectly. This fragrance smells cold, without ever being sharp or metallic, which is an incredible thing to achieve for the perfumer. It never loses its coldness, even as it wears on my skin. When I smell it, it's gives me the physical feeling of inhaling chilly winter air outside - dry and cold with hints of some beautiful natural smells, like very distant laundry coming to you on a winter's breeze. Laundry done with plain soaps and starch, no fancy fabric softeners or anything like that, this is not a detergent smell. Because the musks used here are not warm, they don't billow around you like a warm musky iris fragrance might. But it still does have lift, and I can smell a beautiful, elegant, cold iris "aura" around me that shifts into consciousness from time to time. This is more severe to me than N19! But I always loved my fragrances to make me seem "untouchable", so that's perfectly alright with me :) Thank you, Maison Violet, this was a pleasure to smell :)

Nuée Bleue (“Blue cloud”) is, to me, one of the best iris fragrances available today. Not better than Chanel’s La Pausa or N°19 Poudré, with their vetiver base, which embody for me the full beauty of cool and fresh irises. But Nuée Bleue stands alongside the excellent Le Dix by Balenciaga and comes close to Iris Fath by Jacques Fath - another high peak in today's iris landscape. Nuée Bleue smells like true iris butter - creamy, powdery, and incredibly natural. The quality of the ingredients is immediately noticeable. The fragrance is cool, classically composed, without any sharp powder, dustiness, carrot overload, or acetone notes. It remains refined and “delicious” in a perfumery sense. It doesn’t slip into a cosmetic territory but stays a vivid sketch of iris flowers and root. It evokes Japanese imagery, where blue irises are often found around ponds. Yet it is not the delicate, watery, molecular iris of Iris Ukiyoe by Jean-Claude Ellena, but a more alive and naturalistic interpretation. I prefer it to Iris Médicis by Patricia de Nicolai, where the leather in the base slightly weighs the composition down. I can’t fault a single note from the opening to the drydown. The fragrance is quiet, with almost no sillage. There is something in it reminiscent of Céline Rimbaud, which has a similar iris character. It feels modern and presents a noble iris without leaning too far into either feminine cosmetic softness or masculine cedar-pencil dryness. Although such irises are usually more typical of feminine compositions, this is a rare case where such a luxurious iris can also be imagined as a masculine fragrance. It is masterfully crafted and balanced with fresh, cool citrus notes. It’s a scent you want to breathe in.

"Blue cloud" is a perfect name for this! It feels hazy, semi-transparent, light, and still somewhat surrounding/consuming. It's definitely in the Infusion Iris family of light "freshened up" orris-ey scents. This one is perfectly balanced with a sharp, fresh opening, a glorious powdery iris heart that isn't too sweet, and a gentle white musky drydown. It's not going to move heaven and Earth...and no real points for originality, but its immaculately executed. In the grand scheme of "infusion Iris-esque" scents (I just tried "Trench" recently so it's on my mind!) the sharp and soapy opening of this makes it feel "extra unisex." Maybe it's association because the "fancy bubble-bath meets hairspray" topnotes bring to mind whatever scent emanates from Thomas Pink's fancy men's shirt stores. A great "easy reach" scent that I'm glad to stock for mornings when I don't know what to pick.

The opening has a small sour note I don't love but is still nice. One of those openings that you just need to experience a few times to get used to and appreciate. Oh but the dry down is what I cannot get enough of...it is so beautiful, soft, it is powdery but not a dull or stale powder. After a couple of hours the scent was so familiar, an old love that I could not quite name and finally it came to me..L'Air du Temps. Yes a modern fresh faint L'Air du Temps. There is a very soft pretty clean note in the dry down that has me coming back for more. A very feminine perfume. I'm surprised it is listed as unisex as there are no masculine notes but it is vey clean just showered vibe in the dry down Edit: After a few days this one has really grown on me. I now love the opening and am head over heals for it after the first hour. One of the best blind buys yet

Nuée Bleue is a beautiful take on iris. It strikes a wonderful balance—neither overly earthy nor excessively powdery. Instead, it feels smooth, elegant, and quietly refined, allowing the iris to shine without becoming cold or makeup-like. It's the kind of fragrance that whispers luxury rather than demanding attention in the same realm as my old time favorite iris fragrance, Prada Iris d' Infusion. However, the longevity is underwhelming, especially considering the price point. I also can't help but feel that the new bottles look rather cheap for a niche house in this price range. While the fragrance inside is undeniably beautiful, the presentation doesn't reflect the premium experience you're paying for. If Maison Violet improved the longevity and elevated the bottle design, this would be an easy recommendation.

I love it but it’s a dead ringer for Prada’s Infusion d'Iris. Hard to believe that this is a complete note list as the only common notes between the two perfumes, beside Iris, is orange blossom and benzoin. The only difference I can detect is that Nuée Bleue dries down to a musk base. But both creations use tha same Iris note in the same proportion. And both fragrances start off the same; bright citrus with a warm powdery Iris. Interesting to note that Nuée Bleue was originally released in 1953, and Nathalie Lorson updated it with this formula. I love Prada’s version, so buying this would be redundant. Daniela Andrier was probably influenced by Nuée Bleue. And if she wasn’t, then she knows now.

This is a house that’s not easy to reach in the US at this moment. I tried the whole brand in Japan and Nuée Bleue was my favorite. Very fresh without the sharp citrus, powdery without being baby powder, very musky (musk became my favorite note recently), the Benzoin and Sandalwood provide depth and sweetness. I just love the scent and I got compliments whenever I wore it. Except the longevity could be better. Only last 6-7 hours on my skin. I understand it’s pretty good already as a fresh musky fragrance but still wish it last longer. I will try layering it with Molecule 01 or 02.

Beautiful, serene French perfumery. For a blue-eyed man or woman in a white shirt, perfect skin and teeth, the sun reflected in the highlights of their dark blonde hair. That is the vibe. Iris lovers will be satisfied by the multiple facets of the material conveyed throughout the scent’s 4 hour lifespan. I am reminded at different phases of several iris perfumes from Hiris to Iris Silver Mist but oddly enough not Prada Infusion D’Iris which I associate with powdery cedar. 4.5 out of 5.

I loved Maison Violet’s original bottles. When I spend a chunk of money for a new fragrance, a beautiful bottle is part of a luxury experience. I am sick and tired of all the generic unisex bottles out there. Their new bottle design is disappointing and looks cheap. Nuee Bleue is a beautiful Woody Iris musk. I love it during spring and summer months.

It’s official, I am now done searching for My perfect Iris fragrance. Yes, it’s very much like Prada Infusions de Iris but more elevated. It seems a bit more woody and definitely longer lasting. I am hoping it is my signature but I always say that too quickly and change my mind. We shall see......

Lemon and bergamot lift a soft powdery violet-iris heart, wrapped in white musk and sandalwood. Soapy to some, baby-clean to others, but impeccably done. A hazy blue cloud of elegance you reach for when you want to smell quietly polished, fresh out of the shower, and timeless.

What a classy, fresh iris. I love the sparkly, citrus push resting over an elegant woody, iris base. I am a touch disappointed in the new generic bottle design. It’s inoffensive but, in my opinion, without some of the elegance of the previous design.

Beautiful soft elegant iris scent with neroli clean and soapy If you like iris from Prada or chanel 19 poudre or infusion oranger from Prada you will love this Very elegant

One of my favorites from the Maison Violet Discovery Kit. A bright, glamorous scent that evokes old Hollywood to me. It's funny that it's called Nuée Bleue (I thought of Matisse's Blue Nudes from 1952)–To me, this scent is purple and orange due to the soapy iris and acidic citrus notes. I don't usually associate fragrances with any particular time of day, but it also feels like a morning smell, perhaps due to the intense lemon and bergamot. It's a bit too formal and old fashioned for me personally, but I do like it. Not one I need a bottle of, however.

Johnson's baby shampoo! But it works. The iris is clean and smooth, and this is permeated by a very well behaved bergamot. The accord is impressive in its simplicity, Good performance for a frag of this kind. It has nothing in common with L'heure bleue, and I don't think it was ever intended as such. However, I have never sampled the vintage Nuee Bleue, so as with this kind of re-interpretations I don't know how close to the original this is. Having said all that, it's a beautiful and very clean composition.

This parfume is a very nice fragrance with iris, musk and bergamote. I am ok with the other comments: it is a clean and soapy scent. Elegant, great for work. More for woman to my opinion (but a man can wear it) and for spring and fall. The sillage and longevity are correct (moderate, not so huge). A poetic scent. 7/10

Just added this to my collection and I’m in love! 🌸 A beautiful balance of citrus brightness with soft powdery iris and a touch of violet. It feels airy, elegant, and timeless — like a fresh breeze wrapped in delicate florals. Perfect for everyday wear yet classy enough for special moments.

Powdery iris. It is quite reminiscent of Prada Infusion d'Iris (which I used to love about 15 years ago), but less diaper-y (still a little diaper-y though). Like most of the offerings from this house, not hugely different from things I've smelled before but well done, if not original.

I enjoy this fragrance, but it's a little bit strong on the florals, IMHO. Very sweet and powdery.

Its really unfortunate the opening on my skin is so sharp a la kitchen cleaner. Slightly sharp and powdery citrus + iris scent. I can't discern the carnation but I do think its a bit too heavy on the florals for my liking. After the opening the citrus calms down to a lovely musky iris scent, but I feel like I have other fragrances that I better enjoy the jouney ton the dry down than this one. Skin Scent Opening: 3/10 Mid/Base: 7/10

Quite a citrusey-iris, quite feminine upon application, but it dies quite quickly. Within a few hours it's a skin scent with minimal projection. I didn't really care for it all that much to begin with, but now with it's short lifespan, it's still a no from me...

This is a make up bag scent for someone who is just dipping their toe into make up powdery perfumes. A very light powdery iris that is cleaned up w/ a lot of citrus notes. Understated chic but a tad boring.

This is a nice powdery iris smell with the mix of musk and a little bit of citrus. The orange blossom is slightly present. An ok fragrance. Definitely female targeted in my opinion.

I love iris and this is a nice fragrance... but to be honest, I've smelled this a dozen times before.

I don’t mind a powdery scent so long it doesn’t smell of baby powder/ tacit powder or grandmas’ scents . This is way too too much of the above . Prefer my Xerjoff - Apollonia for an Iris/ Orris scent . Big No for me !!!

I ADORE THIS SCENT! THIS IS FULL BOTTLE WORTHY. I regret not pulling the trigger and just ordering the full bottle. I ordered Fleur De Peau instead and I love this one so much more. It's just perfect. Perfectly powdery iris but also lemony fresh. If you do not like Infusion D'Iris fear not because I don't care for that scent but love this one. Projection is good for this scent type. The powdery iris is balanced perfectly with the lemon citrus freshness, and it creates this beautiful dynamic between the two aspects which are often in opposition with one another. IS there a pledge cleanliness to this? Well, sort of. I don't mind it though. It just adds to the feeling of being squeaky clean and fresh. This is a perfect scent for out of the shower and wanting to smell super fresh, super clean, super feminine. I envision wearing this on repeat during the summer heat. It's a. simple composition and I really only get 4 notes from this: Iris, lemon, bergamot, and musk and once the lemony fresh zestiness settles, I'm left with a beautiful iris that's super elegant, lovely, and refined. To me, this scent just EXUDES class. I want Maison Violet to sell bath products of this. I'd love a bubble bath and body cream to go with this perfume! It's both invigorating and calming. SCENT: 10/10 PROJECTION: 6/10 LONGEVITY: 6/10

To my nose prominantly iris which gives a powdery makeupy feel but not super strongly... it has a citrucy sweetness to mix it up. Similar to Infusion d ́iris but way more rounded and less harsh, sweeter and more delicate. I really dislike iris but this is duable. It smells so natural and fresh. Very sophisticated, gives the vibe of muted elegance. This smells like natural clean soft feminine elegance from a previous era. Not in a way that it smells vintage, no, it smells like a very modern up to date interpretation of that. I think it is the iris that smells softly like a vintage face powder(?). The same feel that you get from Infusion d ́iris.. It gives me the vibes of a very elegant old money wealthy older lady. Mind you this does NOT smell like an old lady no, I ́m only trying to describe the vibe.. this person is anywhere from 24-50 (this has a young fresh vibe), belongs to old brittish royalty, goes to see polo matches, is classicly feminine and demure. This is what she smells like on a casual day having a walk in the park. Elegant, soft, clean, fresh natural iris with sweet lemon. It ́s quite soft so probably needs heavy sprays to get some sillage going on... This smell is the opposite of boho chic. This is demure royal elegance.

Pale lemon/citric florals over iris carnation powder Nuee Bleu is essentially a high pitched bright lemon slowly shifting into orange blossom and progressively revealing a tender creamy powdery back drop with a spicy carnation inflections, almost like an elevated Dove body lotion with a hint more sweet cinnamon. The result is quite functional on my skin. So much so that I could imagine many people may just pickup the smell of a well groomed person who just left their bathroom. Two issues I have with this fragrance, I can imagine it being disastrous if you break a sweat, the brilliant powdery facets without any animalic counter balance feel quite bare and exposed and prone to being a brilliant contrast against one's not so brilliant secretions. Secondly, I personally can't even remotely justify the price.

Absolutely lovely fresh, clean, and powdery iris fragrance, yes it’s in the same realm of Prada Infusion d’Iris but it still manages to be very different, I enjoy this one a lot more. The citrus + clean iris combination does indeed give me a “frosty” feeling like another reviewer mentioned. Performance is moderate, which is expected with this kind of fragrance, it does last over 8 hours on my skin and projection is nice at the beginning but it quickly becomes intimate.

Really pretty. Sweeter and softer, more inviting and warm than Prada Infusion d'Iris (the original version EDP.) Lovely, understated, elegant iris fragrance. After about eight hours of wear, there are still wafts of scent, very weak, but stronger than a skin scent. Unfortunately for me it is mostly a musky note that I don't get along with. It's used with restraint here, but makes this fragrance a pass for me. That's ok, there are a couple from this house that I adore.

Lovely powdery soft makeup bag vibe with some sparkling citrus. Super "clean". Subtly sweet, with a musky, old fashioned boudoir feel. Not overly vintage, carnation is not dominant at all (phew!) A touch woodsy on the drydown. Overall really nice! Posh, clean, refined, a little old school. Safe blind buy if you are into makeup bag / powdery iris, and very safe for work wear.

A least elegant version of L’Heure Bleue de Guerlain. Obviously, the notes and ingredients aren’t exactly the same but I’m missing some spices and the purple flowers aka iris and violet that aren’t promoted in the best possible way. But it might be a good alternative for people wanting L’Heure Bleue without the vintage notes process.

Calm and collected powdery smell. Just like the reformulated Prada Infusion D'Iris. The vintage Prada used to have incense. The current formula as well as this perfume are just another lovely violet iris perfume. Definitely chic and luxurious, can't go wrong with it.

-Soft, powdery lipsticky scent, with subtle citrus undertones. -This could read as a vintage-inspired scent, reminiscent of Guerlain's l'heure bleue- Except Nuee Bleue doesn't conjure the same melancholy. -Not quite unique enough to be bottle worthy. (-)

Strong citrusy opening, but dries down into beautiful fresh iris as opposed to sweet powderiness. Surprisingly good performance

On paper: Super soapy violet and a hint of iris. Body creamy white musk, aldehydic and detergent-like.
