Oud Sultan

Roses arouse feelings of admiration and passion. They are the symbol of many love stories and also of some wars. The rose is the queen of flowers and the most masculine of the feminine floral fragrances. Because of roses and their symbolism, women have been named after, revolutions have been made, nations have been ravished, secret societies have been kept hidden, love poems have been written and art painted with its palette of colours. In the world of scents, we often come across powerfully fragrant roses. When I first smelled Oud Sultan by Maïssa, I immediately remembered Noir de Noir, Oud Ispahan and Rose d'Arabie. It wasn't so much a matter of similarity, but because they are also fragrances centred on a divinely powerful rose, surrounded by spices and tender oriental woods. At the opening, I already sense a rose scent with increasing intensity, but still in its springtime of life. It starts as a blooming bud that develops along with the earthy grounding scents that helped to create it. Oud Sultan starts by intriguing me due to the strong and unexpected earthy chord present in the top notes. This impression is fleeting but striking. So much earthy patchouli? Have I made a mistake and used another perfume bottle? This evident and unexpected scent surprised me both by its sudden appearance and by its swift passage into olfactory anonymity. Slowly the Bulgarian rose grows, creeps up and becomes dominant. It is a sweet, deep, and mellow rose scent with a faint indole, spicy and honeyed undertone. This Balkan rose controls our senses with the evolution of its scent but also reveals itself as an odalisque wrapped in veils of seductive oud, ambary and incense voluptuousness, structured by woody background accords, and displaying a special emphasis on the happy combination with sandalwood and saffron that lingers with light nuances of wood and leather during the dry down. A bit unusual development but quite pleasuring anyway! My opinion: The new small player Maïssa proposes different fragrance types, and among them, the inevitable rose-oud composition. The fragrance is very well blended and it pleases the vast majority of oriental fragrance lovers as well as some of its haters. If you are a rose-oud perfume lover, I strongly advise getting hold of an Oud Sultan flask. If as an "oud beginner" you are interested in exploring this type of scent, this is a quality option for a friendly price. They come in 50ml, 100ml and 200 ml sizes. فوران رایحه‌ی زعفران با نیم‌چه حس چرمی که در شروع پرقدرت ترین عُنصر عطر به حساب میاد به مرور فضای شیرین و آبنباتی رُز به مشام می‌رسه و به همون میزان از بخش زعفرانی عطر کاسته میشه علاوه بر این رایحه‌ی بالزامیک در شروع بسیار قدرت‌مند هست که با گذشت زمان جاش رو به یک شیرینی رُزگون میده حال و هوای دودی و ایسنسی کمی داره و فقط در لحظات‌ای وجوه اینسنسی بسیار ضعیف و ظریف‌ای حس میشه که اون هم ناپایدر هست علاوه بر این موارد؛اگر طرفدار پچولی هم هستید باید بگم که این کار به دردتون نمی‌خوره و اصلا زیبا و قدرتمند کار نشده درسته که رُز توی این عطر حالت گلاب‌گون نداره اما وجوه شرقی پررنگ‌ای داره که می‌تونه برای ما تداعی کننده‌ی فضاهای مذهبی و اعراب و دشداشه باشه باز هم نه،به یک عطر دیگه از این برند ************** scent:6/10 longevity:10/10 sillage:10/10 purchase value:3/10 ******* overall:7.2/10

Rose and oud are not notes that I get along with when they are the main players. However, I can appreciate that this is a well blended beast of a fragrance with some very nice spices - I do detect nutmeg and creaminess of sandalwood in the drydown. This is a more male leaning fragrance to my nose. Fragrance notes from the website are as follows: Top notes : Bulgarian Rose, Incense Essence, Patchouli. Heart notes : Cistus Flower, Nutmeg, Sandalwood. Base notes : Amber, Guaiac Wood, Labdanum.

This is a BEAST. Patchouli, woods and rose are the strongest notes to my nose. I'm a chronic oversprayer and cannot do more than 4 sprays of this. Lasts 12+ hours, leans masculine but the rose softens it up.
