Ambre Mythique This is a scent worthy to accompany an artist working on their masterpiece These are the types of works that can be appreciated on so many levels. The resins are so impeccable. It seems like it is something you can take a full breath in, and as your lungs reach their capacity You feel a pull; you still have not gotten enough of its sweet aroma It is not sugary sweetness; it feels like something that is earthy, like sand, has that dust on it. Yes, it feels like you are sniffing some mythical resins, and the dust on them just envelops you The texture of this scent is where the beauty lives. In the first week of owning the bottle I could form an association with the aroma of popcorn caramel- like smell. Later this reminder went away its pure without associations now. Perfectly abstract. It has that quality of catching yourself sneaking to sniff where you sprayed I remember being a bit angry when I first got my bottle, as I thought it wasn't strong enough I can now attest that its strength is perfect. I have found this sort of overlap of base notes as in Grain de Plaisir. I can't explain it based on the note pyramid. But if this is something that overlaps across MPG fragrances, I am very curious to get my nose on the rest of their collection.

Do not expect the usual amber at all. This is a beautiful, powerful fragrance that feels classy and exquisitely dark. Here, the name "mythique" is appropriate, considering this is all about the depth and slow resonance of it's base-heavy structure. The top notes of citrus are nearly non-existant, but what is there is gorgeously swirling up from the first spray. I get an immediate plume of incense, myrrh, patchouli and labdanum, which lingers and grows, revealing tonka bean that is sweet without being predictable or cloying in any way. My girlfriend also wears this, and is absolutely addicted to it, claiming it is mysterious, dark and extremely sexy. The longevity and sillage are both enormous. I had heard this parfum was upped in intensity, and I can see that. Actually, the one detracting factor may be the longevity, which, because of the powerful swelling of deep notes here, could turn a few off from its charms, but for me, and I'm sure for most, it will be seen as incredible. A blossoming black rainbow with enough sweetness and punch in the middle to "consider" it some kind of amber...I suppose.

I had a 5 ml sample of this and while I really dislike smoke and frankincense, AM managed to make it work. And my God, is this POTENT! That said, my full bottle purchase was the more classic, deeply resinous, rich, and not smoky Ambre Précieux. That one is pure aromatherapy. I spray it on my pillows! If I do buy another amber, it’d be Ambre Mythique. This company just does amazing resinous amber blends. I never thought I’d love a scent with frankincense but I do because MPG counterbalances its stronger notes. In Ambre Précieux the amber itself is wrapped in Tolu and Peru balsalms then dipped in vanilla. MPG are superb blenders, a rare talent in today’s two-three note dominant frags!

Delightful! This really does smell like the amber crystals stuffed in pomanders. Sharp, herbal and refreshing at the start with an airy aridity that almost conjures dust motes as it starts to dry down. Sweetens and becomes more powdered in the dry down. It’s warm but not thick or chewy...warm cloth, pools of sun on lacquered floorboards on cold clear winter days, wind in the hair and crystalline blue skies....the kind of scent to wear on dry cold days reading book with a steaming hot brew and warm, silken furred cat purring and keeping me company.

So the ambers from this house are a interesting bunch, I doubt they'd have three or four if each didn't have something unique to say. I actually think that ambre mythique is my favourite upon a quick sniff. This is not a overly sweet amber, but the vibes of precieux are there, but the focus here is more on the incense aspect and that alive, zing but greasy medicinal feel of olibanum and the uncompromising heady myrrh, carefully woven in. I have to wear this properly to continue this review but the way resins are handled is really well considered.

I agree that this is the best amber ever, and I’ve smelled a lot. It is a hell of an accomplishment to match Ambre Précieux. The crunchy burnt-toffee smokiness is exquisite, and there is just the right tincture of animalic umph to make this at once beautiful and strange. The closest comparison in the market right now is Interlude 53, but it doesn’t touch Ambre Mythique. I am happy that Maître is such a well-kept secret. I would like to drive business their way, but I selfishly want them all to myself.

A warning to the impatient, this one does take a while to settle. For the first hour labdanum, magnificently rich and oily enough to wilt my quiff, dominates with first lavender then myrrh and coriander, a little sharp. Then, finally, the celestial accord arrives, and the other notes begin to wink like stars. And it goes on and on and on and you're lost in your own olfactory bubble, returning to sniff your wrist again and again. A stunningly beautiful amber and one of this house's masterpieces.

This is like having a perfect crème brûlée. The incense and coriander are like the burnt sugar that you crack with the side of your spoon to get at the cool vanilla custard cream. I find this to lie somewhere between Ambre Précieux and Amouage Interlude Man. The quality of the ingredients and the expertise in blending are unrivalled. Maître never disappoints. I've been sampling this over a period of three weeks and have never tired of it. It's a vibrant take on amber. I keep picturing "scarves" when I wear this. I used to live in San Francisco, where I would bundle up against the summer chill with a silk scarf. Mythique is the scent you want your scarf to smell like. Classy, warm, and invigorating. If I could make one tweak it would be to tone down the Tonka bean and dial up the vanilla.

Frankly, the Best Ambre ever. Very complex but finally very easy to wear. I call it Aromatic Ambre because of its incredible surprising herbal start. But at the end proposes also the most beautiful classic vanillic dry down. Monster longevity. I know a lot of Ambre fragrances and own quite a few: Précieux, Doré, Fétiche, Russe, Nuit, Sultan, Eternel, Tabac, 114, Extrême... all splendid... But Mythique leaves them all behind!

Discontinued!!! 😱 Because of not compliance to new IFRA standards for fragrances. To compensate this lost MPG has released a new one: Ambre Capucines (still not added on Fragrantica) which is good but nothing to do with mythical MYTHIQUE...

Profumum Roma "Ambra Aurea" will always be my "Holy Grail" of amber-centric fragrance. For a number of reasons, I decided to explore suitable alternatives to Ambra Aurea. Of course I had to try "Ambre Precieux" by MPG. I also decided to purchase a sizable decant of "Ambre Mythique." I do not think there is an amber-centric fragrance that can compete with my beloved Ambra Aurea. IMHO, Ambre Mythique is quite a bit different from Ambre Precieux. Ambre Mythique opens as a thick, heady, slightly spicy, resinous amber fragrance. The addition of olibanum is immediately apparent to my nose, as there's an initial burst of skank. There's lavender, there's vanilla. But for me what separates Ambre Mythique from Ambre Precieux is the addition of tonka bean and geranium. The tonka bean definitely adds a powdery, nutty accord. The geranium adds a bit of floral tartness that beautifully balances the heavy fragrance of the lavender note. Not sure I see myself wearing Ambre Mythique on any regular basis. And I definitely see shared similarities between the two fragrances, Ambre Mythique and Ambre Precieux. The two perfumes are not unique enough (and too expensive) for me to own both.

What can I say about this beautiful scent, it's an improved Ambre Precieux. First day I picked it up from the courier, I disliked it and considered it another failed blindbuy. Got home and received a compliment which I thought was surprising. To me it smelled deep, dark slightly burned toffee covering patchouli, think thick syurpy toffee rather than gooey chewy toffee. Then the aromatic notes started coming out but instead of clashing they just blend seamlessly with the heavier notes which I find very interesting. This phases lasts for a good 1-2 hours (or probably I go noseblind to them since on others it lasts much longer in the scent cloud). 5-6 hours down the line the Ambre Precieux base is the prevalent scent hence why I consider this the improved version of Ambre Precieux. Has gotten me numerous compliments one being on a cold night, from tuk tuk/rickshaw driver which was the most interesting one. In the middle of my directions he stops me and says, "Leave that sir, first tell me what perfume you're wearing, because from the moment you've gotten in, it has refreshed me and uplifted my mood". 4 sprays and 3 hours later, a testament to it's performance.

My previous reference point for myrrh was a $10 Kuumba Made roll-on oil, a cheap vanilla coke accord. Going straight from that to Ambre Mythique knocked me straight to the ground. At first it’s distinctly aromatic. You could almost call it a “green amber” for how grassy the myrrh is, but an hour or so in that evaporates, at which point the ingredients play off each other in perfect balance. There’s incense with a hint of smoke, resin with a hint of pungency, aromatic with a hint of spice, vanilla with a hint of dessert. The heady ingredients are all wrapped up in palatability, but there remains an addicting depth that keeps me sniffing my wrist over and over. I prefer the dryness of Ambre Precieux personally, but this scent is memorable like no other amber I’ve tried so far. If you like Penhaglion's Halfeti but found it too heavy this is well worth a try; in my opinion Amber Mythique is lighter, clearer, and sweeter than that scent.

This fragrance is beautiful, finely crafted and so unique! To be honest, I didn't think I would like it at first. The myrrh note is strong and it takes an hour or so to burn off enough that I can enjoy it. That's my only criticism and it's something that might not bother others. It's hard for me to describe this. The myrrh definitely gives it a 'spiritual' feel. It's got some of the Ambre Precieux DNA underlying it which is nice as the myrrh plays really well with the amber accord. It's a creamy, churchy amber that makes me think of autumn, winter and overcast days. Myrrh tends to make a fragrance smell more serious for me (probably my Catholic upbringing) but there is also a very 'hippie' vibe to this as well. I can see the Birkenstock crowd rocking this.

This smells wonderful. Cozy, woody, smoky, and almost boozy. When I first opened the vial to sample it, I instantly had an impulse to drink it. It smells that delectable. I really enjoy it. That said, there's something about it that leans ever so slightly older and more masculine. I love the scent, but I don't think it fits me exactly. I'm going to try Doré and Précieux next....

A perfect oriental fougere. The sweet MPG amber accord plays very nice with fresh lavender and bitter green herbal notes. So very complex that it’s difficult to describe.

Unfortunately, Ambre Mythique by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier didn’t work for me at all. The scent immediately gave me the impression of something very old-fashioned. The image that came to mind was an older woman living alone in a large Victorian house on top of a hill, powdery, heavy, and a bit dated in character. It might appeal to those who enjoy very vintage-style fragrances, but on my skin it simply didn’t feel wearable. In fact, it was a scrubber for me. Fragrance is always subjective, and I’m sure there are people who appreciate this classic style, but it definitely wasn’t for me. Scent: 3/10 | Longevity: 7/10 | Projection: 6.5/10 | Overall: 3/10

This smells exactly like Opium smoke! When somebody’s smoking opium in a room,that room smells like this!

Agree with the comparison to Miller Bertaux #23. Great call, didn't make the connection until I read that comment. Different framing with the same overall effect, although I vastly prefer Ambre Mythique. It's sweeter and more approachable. Less medicinal than the India-inspired Newsletter. Newsletter, with its absence of sweetness, pulls heavily medicinal. Newsletter is a heavy dose of fennel and saffron, with dry incense and sandalwood. That is a better "pure" incense, where as this leans more into traditional amber territory. Ambre Mythique veers away from the Indian curry spices and sticks to more "Western" additions, like lavender and geranium. If Miller Bertaux is authentically "Oriental", whatever that means, then Ambre Mythique is that same Orient, tempered by Occidental influences. Geographically, this would check out, with Oman's historical cross-cultural exchange via the Silk Road. The conclusion, then, is that both of these perfumes do evoke what they have set out to render. Both are great. This base signature is mostly a very complex oriental incense, evoking India in the Miller and Oman in Ambre Mythique. The Omani take incorporates ambered sweetness over the austerity of the Indian version to perhaps temper the Oriental soul for consumption by Western audiences. IDK, this is just perfume consumerism. Not that serious, but interesting in how thematically accurate both of these scents are. Another comparison I will add is to Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain. This is like if LADDM had a heavy dose of Oriental incense. I can say inspired by, but definitely not a copy in any way. This is primarily an incense fragrance. Both are transparent ambers, although this is much more incense-focused. Both have similar spice additions, coriander, lavender, geranium. I prefer Ambre Mythique, even if the everyone considers the Tauer a masterpiece. I think Ambre Mythique is far more interesting. No one can deny how influential the Tauer is, though.

Having sampled Ambre Mythique together with Ambre Precieux, I don't see the point in comparing them. Name aside the similarities are fewer than the differences imo. Ambre Precieux is the gold standard/benchmark classical amber, while Ambre Mythique is a different animal, a definite departure from classical amber into resinous spicy territory. As the official description states 'An accord of vanilla, patchouli and Tonka beans brings a sweet touch to this oriental incense and myrrh scented perfume', this is very much incense and myrrh in the forefront, softened by a deep amber base, not an amber dominant fragrance with a touch of incense. The first 2 hours really feel 'mythical', like you have come across a wooden chest full of rare oriental resins and spices, however it is quite overwhelming and bombastic. Smoke and spicy, almost soapy coriander over bold, dry myrrh, with some fresh sparkle in the very opening, vanilla always in the back. About 10 mins in you really get a sticky, burnt toffee smell (imagine sugar melting in a pan and bubbling down into a grown goo). Over the next two hours, the dry aromatic elements depart, myrrh stays behind, but smoke-free with a woody patchouli backbone, then a lovely sweet amber cloud remains. While I do enjoy this fragrance in theory, even after a few months of owning the sample I have only worn it a handful of times. I don't seem to reach for it, mostly because it is a really draining experience. It pushes in and out of my comfort zone and by the end I don't want to smell anything at all, even though I enjoyed the ride.

I got to sample a 1 ml vial of this. I had bought an FB of Ambre Précieux from lucky and chose this as one of my samples. It is very familiar in that it resembles AP in structure and heart/base notes but it has an amazing nuance of what I thought was frankincence. But whatever the incense actually is it is extremely skillfully and subtly blended! I love it. Maybe some other time I could justify getting this one too! I think I love this house- curious to sniff their other creations. I can’t believe I lived in Paris in 1988 when they were formed! Update: I am resampling and while I think it’s beautiful and great I am quite happy with my AP and do not regret my choice. Still want to smell some of their other creations!

The company MPG change of ownership and was sold to Taraka et Parfums group. Mithyque Ambre is one of the new releases under the new management , which also made a complete whitewash on the website , and presentation boxes and bottles of the entire collection. The bottle seems to have more quality. I wish that this has been accompanied by an improvement in the strength of the juices. If someone has a novelty please report this!

As far as Amber scents go, for me this one stands out. Ambre Précieux is a straight forward dose, as is Ambre 114 by HDP (two of my favourites). This one has a much stronger flair of myrrh and spice. It’s quite savoury compared to the honey sweetness I sense from the other two I mention above. Waiting to sample other MPG scents before I make any purchase decisions, yet this has risen to the top of my chart so far.

I find Ambre Précieux to be a better choice from the brand than this one. They are both stunningly made, I'm just not a fan of the obvious coriander and geranium notes. This one's just a bit too aromatic and green for me, it almost makes me a little nauseous to smell it. Alot of MPG fragrances are strong, so when I say aromatic, it's on another level I can't really tolerate.

Sweet smokes... This is myrrh, vanilla, smoke, and vanilla lavender. It has labdanum, coriander, tonka bean, & tuned down powdered patchouli. It is more of a smoky sweet myrrh blend. Fair.

The geranium and coriander in here makes it very dense and heady compared to Ambre Precieux, much more masculine, although the dry down after a few hours is soft and sweet. I prefer AP.

Miller et Bertaux Study #23/Newsletter is so similar, especially in the drydown, that you don't need both. Alternatively, Ambre Mythique for her, Newsletter for him.

Sorry Lechu but Taraka parfums is a branch of MPG not a separate company who bought them out. A range of 7 fragrances from MPG using the name Taraka Parfums
