Ambre Precieux

What is there to say about this? It's stunning. One of the very best true ambers, and I've tried many. Seriously, dozens-designer to the highest end niche. It's pure quality in every way, STRONG (beastmode even), rich, balsamic, deep, smooth, luscious, velvety, almost leathery, dark (a nocturne amber, not totally black as the night but very out-there is just a bit, a perfect amount, of luminosity-the flicker of a candle or fireplace and the glow of moonlight in an otherwise dark room), chewy, just the right amount of sweet. EVERYTHING you want in an amber. But this is not the only amber that fits these descriptors (though it is one of the few). What sets it apart from other top favorite ambers such as TF amber absolute is that there is a hint of something fresh and very natural in the opening, bergamot perhaps? It might sound discordant but it's what makes me want to buy this asap, so unique and exactly what dark rich balsamic amber has been missing! Don't get me wrong, this fresh note is also dark in it's own way and you don't smell it too much when you sniff your wrist, or even all the time, but you do get extremely pleasant surprise wafts of it here and there. It adds the perfect drop of airiness to an otherwise impossibly thick, chewy amber. It also makes this work in warmer seasons (most ambers in this style I crave exclusively during late fall/winter). Phenomenal. 10/10. Edit: could the mysterious fresh airy note be a particularly fresh form of lavender? The more I sniff, the more I think so. Real lavender of high quality (the type I have only smelled growing in a field, never before in perfume) definitely has a non sweet citrusy bergamot nuance to me. I don't usually like lavender in perfume but even this note is pf exceptional quality here. Another thing I failed to mention- though myrrh and amber is not a particularly unusual pairing, it is utterly delicious here. I'm convinced that only the highest quality raw materials are used in this perfume as each note, and I loved them all, is truly of exceptional quality here. The tolu and Peru balsams as well. I LOVE these notes and can smell them strong and clear here, especially as it dries down. It's easier for me to pick out tolu balsam vs Peru simply because I have much more experience with it, and this is probably the most delicious tolu balsam I have ever smelled. If you are a fan of this note, it's worth seeking out a sample of this perfume just for that. Not just for amber lovers! Edit 2: yes it is similar to HdP ambre 114 but much deeper and darker and even more swoon worthy. And I say this as a massive fan of ambre 114.

I am a big 'ol amber snob and since this composition is touted as one of the kings of Amber: I blind bought it. I have the new clear bottle (not the red glass) for the purposes of this review. Right out of the gate I get a citrusy lavender and inoffensive amber with no petroleum vibe. The scent quickly develops for me into more of a resinous suede sweet fougere-than a straight amber beast. At first Wearing I was disappointed that it wasn't an amber bomb which is what some reviewers and descriptions led me to believe. I have since, several wearing later come to love this interesting take, not as an Amber but as a unique composition in the aforementioned resin-suede-sweet fougere with traces of tobacco almost ala Dyptique Volutes edt. Just throw the note pyramid out the window along with Loree Rodkin's Gothic II which now to me smells like a brutish attempt at powering up this scent with more headshop dragonsblood incense. There is a quiet mastery at work here that doesn't scream for attention and doesn't mind if your first impression isn't head over heels. This is definitely the "stable boyfriend" of Amber based scents. It may not be exhilarating in the back seat of the limo-sort of way, but it will never do you wrong. Well done. Scent: 7.5/10 sophisticated and well crafted with subtle evolving transition. Not too sweet or green or medicinal. Projection: 6/10 it isnt a beast but it is pretty consistent with it's performance at rest. Sillage: 4/10 averaged. Good for the first hour or two but backs off to a close encounter scent around hour 4. Longevity: 7/10 lasts about 7 hours on my skin before needing reapplication or replacement. Would I buy another bottle? Yes I would. It's too versatile and well made to not deserve a place in the collection.

Where I live we don't have the chance to sample any of these fragrances, so after reading many blogs I came to think this would be a good fragrance... but just out of fantasies and expectations. I feared though it could lead towards the heavy vanilla some ambers display (I had in mind Jaipur as an example of this) or smell too herbal... well well, I got this so here's reality (IMHO): I love Ambre Precieux! I find it has the right amount of everything not to be cloyingly sweet, not too vanillic, not too... not too... and so it succeeds as a staple. Highly wearable and modern. I don't find this particularly sexy, it is so smooth I can't add any triple x to it. Still, it deserves its praise all the way to the moon and back. There is a leather-like note in the beginning which I may be confusing with some of amber ingredients? (labdanum perhaps?). Whatever it is, I like! I got this after becoming addicted to L'air du desert marocain, which I would call the Ambre precieux on anabolic diet twin. They are very similar but where one of the brothers is a strip dancer, the other is the quiet and studious type. I seriously go for both (perfumes lol). Sometimes we need and extra x, sometimes we want an extra mark. Prominent amber seems to be a new beloved note of mine. PS: don't expect this to be strong. I find it deliciously subdued. Noticeable, but elegantly calm-.

Glowing Amber 🌟🌠 Today I want to share an excellent oldies creation. An amber based fragrance by the house of Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier founded in 1988 called Ambre Précieux. It is among their first lineups launched in that year. I'm still a toddler when this perfume was launched back then👶. On the initial spray a beautiful combination of myrrh and lavender gives a spicy powdery kicks to the nostrils like starter dish served as an entry for our eating experience before enjoying the main course. This fragrance is multifaceted and progress wonderfully. After half an hour the opening start to fade away and open up to a wonderful aroma of soft vanilla. The dry powdery opening transform into gooey resinous texture. This phase reminds me of the beautiful MFK Grand Soir. When progressing to drydown the warm balsamic amber notes comes to shine making this fragrance richer and denser. The amber here feels sunny and quite uplifting although there is a cozy side of it, I call it glowing amber. This fragrance will satisfy both amber or powdery scent lovers. It can be wear in spring/winter day or night. I also find slight similarity in overall experience to Frederic Malle - Musc Ravageur which is more full on gourmand and more appropriate for night-time. I have both and they are excellent on its own. #vscentorientreview

Ambre Precieux is another monumental creation by my beloved house of MPG. Most of its distinctive offerings (Parfum d'Habit, Eau des Iles, Racine, Santal Noble, etc) possess an invaluable retro vibe that creates (upon application) an instant link between my present busy self and the romantic sentimental me, back in the "gadget-free" decade of the late 80's - early 90's. AB has been no exception. Ambre Precieux treats my olfactory system with immeasurable tenderness. It opens with a beautiful note of herbaceous lavender coupled with an abundance of succulent amber supported by myrhh & vanilla. This composition may sound simple yet it is anything but. The usual suspects typically used to recreate the "aroma" of amber result in forming a multi-faceted & super rich aromatic profile. Ambre Precieux starts velvety sweet, emitting a balmy caramelised vibe that feels extremely full bodied & enveloping. As time passes this accord is enriched with spices, some incense & a discreet presence of a variety of resinous & woody nuances that encompass the smoky vanilla & the opulent amber, therefore creating a retro oriental nostalgic & calming sensation. Temperamental yet discreet, luscious yet refined, Ambre Precieux defines a class of its own. 9/10

This has become my favorite fall/winter scent, and my favorite amber scent. It's just so rich and creamy. I simply cannot stop smelling myself when I put this on. If you give someone a hug while wearing this, they will not let go. It's straight-up amber, done to perfection. As it dries down, the punchiness of the amber gives way to some softer vanilla notes, which at times can come across like baby powder, but not in a bad way. Amber remains the star of the show throughout. On my skin, this lasts forever. Like it literally doesn't come off until I shower it off. I can put it on at 6pm, go through my evening with a strong, extremely pleasant amber smell, go to bed without a shower, wake up the next morning, and the scent has hardly diminished. If I chose to (I don't choose to), I could continue through that day with a strong amber scent. The projection/sillage on me is legendary. And for a fragrance this pleasant, that's just incredible. To me this fragrance is about as comfortable as it gets. Rich, creamy, dreamy, with incredible longevity. Warm and delicious. Ambre Precieux means "precious amber" and that's what you get. This one sets the bar.

MPG "Ambre Precieux" is the ultimate calming, soothing, aromatherapy for me. Ambre Precieux is thousands of psychotherapy hours delivered in one gorgeous bottle. Profumum Roma "Ambra Aurea" will always be my "Holy Grail" of amber-centric fragrance. For a number of reasons, I decided to explore suitable alternatives to Ambra Aurea. Of course I had to try "Ambre Precieux" by MPG. Despite its comparisons to Profumum Roma "Ambra Aurea," Ambre Precieux is a light, ethereal and diaphanous, floral-amber fragrance. Gorgeous fragrant lavender immediately lightens up the fragrance, which makes AP very wearable, non-offensive. About 10 minutes in, a creamy, perfectly sweetened, vanilla emerges and beautifully blends with the amber and lavender opening. Nutmeg adds the perfect amount of dry and dusty spiciness to the perfume. Green balsam notes present and seamlessly mesh with the opening and mid-notes. The perfect balance of green notes (balsams) contributes to the perfume's weightlessness and airiness. Ambre Precieux is really lovely. And after wearing the fragrance on a regular basis for several weeks now, I've actually grown to love it!

At last I own a bottle of this exquisite fragrance! I've been coveting it for over a year but couldn't convince myself to give that much money until now. And I'm so glad I did:) Ambre Precieux is full of amber: unsweetened mostly, a bit powdery and very spicy -for the first couple of hours- amber. As it stays on the skin, the powdery aspect is enhanced and the spices begin to fade a bit, but nutmeg stays on for 3-4 hours before finally fading away and then the vanilla shyly makes its appearence. To be fair, it has a more masculine than feminine character, but I feel that on me it smells more like I'm wearing my husband's shirt which still carries his scent, instead of having sprayed his fragrance directly on my skin. This creates a comforting, warm and sensual feeling that implies you've been 'naughty' last night, rather than an explicit, 'come hither' one. I can see myself wearing this a lot during the coming fall/winter. Lasting power is great, 12+ hours but it stays very close to skin mostly. Recommended for all men and those women who are willing to stand out in a crowd.

A very rich decadent Amber fragrance. Smells very high quality. I'm a sucker for anything with Tolu balsam and Peru balsam. The lavender in the top notes gives this just enough of an aromatic quality so it doesn't become monotonous like some Amber's can become. The vanilla in here is so balsamic and rich. This is the type of vanilla amber that I like a lot because it doesn't go into dessert territory. Balsamic deep resinous. Mysterious luxurious. This is a unisex Amber but I find it has a more feminine quality to it in my opinion. It has a seductive quality so either gender could use this fragrance for seduction in my opinion it's definitely a date night fragrance and it's the type of date night fragrance that you wear when you want to take things to the next level. Very sensual very sexy. But not in a crass way it's in that slow, subversive type of seduction. It's a gaze across the room. The caress of a cheek. It's the type of perfume you wear on a date where you ask for the check before the dessert comes and you leave.

Simply the best one I've ever tried!: a rich fragrance full of temperament; passion "recollected in tranquillity"; warm, sweet and tender but not baby powder at all. Better than all the other fragrances on the same subject: ambergris (yes, there is the genuine ambergrìs; I don't mind if it were any substitude...) that I keep in my cupboard. Great either on a male skin (indeed it is classified for men, but...) or/even (in my case) on a woman; I believe that it adds a touch of regality or at least I feel so! no matter who wears it: M.G. e.P. has done a great job while proposing this jewell. I compare this to my other Amber scents but all lack something when confronted to this, that is definitely an outsider: just right! The developing is quite regular, on me I can only distinguish some resin and wood maybe. The fragrance celebrates the beauty of amber, that's all. A precious gift from talented Mr. Laporte. If only it lasted a little longer.....or at least is my "over-drinking" skin to be so greedy!

Best amber ever!! I’ve had this for a year and still am enamored every time I wear it. Light, fresh lavender layered with a touch of cinnimal cola that made me swear myrrh was an ingredient. Nutmeg further elevates the warmth and sweetness; people hugging me say I smell like a glazed donut or speculaas cookie. Gourmands aren't usually my thing, but Ambre Precieux has a slight woodiness and enough incense and balsam to save itself from being too banal or overly vanillic. It’s more a clean amber scent, free of distracting ingredients and pretty much a dead ringer for actual benzoin. The main difference is that it's powdery with a hint of play-doh, like many spiced florals or citric ambers, making it feel older than 1988. Warm weather draws out these notes, so I save it for cooler weather. Since it is bombasically loud-- filling the room with just two sprays-- I aim it at clothing to wrap myself in the perfect cozy sweet incense cloud.

Now I'm fully loaded with amber☺ About 6mths ago I ordered Annick Goutal's Amber Fétiche, more of a smokey blend with amber shining through. Well if you want a amber with a smooth, powdery sweet/ rich vib Ambre Precieux from MPG is definitely the best I've ever smelt. A very high quality warm/woodsy notes with a sweet/ vanilla blend bringing this juice together beautifully. Myrrh certainly grabs your attention adding depth to this juice. I could swear that tonka bean is part of this fragrance's make up. This fragrance isn't thick or cloying rather clean/opulent with a overall warm vib. Longevity and Silage is very high lasting 6-8hrs finally, In the past year, I've been looking for a well desirable amber aroma and now I'm very pleased with Annick and MPG. Both have a real attractive aroma which could be used during the winter months especially when the warmth of your skin awakens the notes to it optimum. 9/10 highly recommend

I love this amber perfume. I love the smell of ambergris, love many fragrances that have an amber base, so it just makes sense I fell in love for this one. Sure, as a classic amber some might consider it a bit retro or old-fashioned but it all depends on what you like to wear. It is less opulent than I thought it would be, which I actually see as an advantage because it makes it more wearable on an everyday basis in my opinion. I don't like to drown my coworkers or my friends in the perfume I'm wearing. I also have a feeling it will be good for layering, to give other fragrances more depth. My only complaint is the bottle: the glass part is common enough, and I'm sorry to say that I find the cap just ugly with its fake colored jewel surrounded by shiny gold metal. More tacky than classic and timeless. But that's a very subjective thing and you might love it. The most important is the perfume and so far I really love it.

This is the first fragrance I've sampled from Maitre parfumeur et Gantier and it's impressive. Has all the calling cards of an amber perfume warm and sharp but not as sharp as some amber scents this goes in a different direction and has a real ancient dusty feel to it. I got the old book smell from this slightly musty, like old paper. As it drys down It's vanilla, amber tolu balm and perhaps some Tonka bean quite simple really and any top notes alluded me slightly on this first try. It might not be the most original amber or have anything striking about it to make it really stand out but it's a tried and tested formula. However I still think it's a notable amber scent because of good quality and reasonable pricing. I'm in no way disappointed as this fragrance smells spectacularly good and lasts well...amber lovers should certainly consider sampling.

I don't have anything important to add to this PERFECT amber fragrance except... Why can't FRAGRANTICA get it together and list the notes correctly...? There's NO MYRRH in this fragrance (despite one reviewer below exclaiming the myrrh is nauseating)... The note in the top alongside lavender is MYRTLE.... Nothing like myrrh at all... It's aromatic and similar to bay leaf... Herbaceous... And.... There's coumarin (or tonka) and cistus labdanum in the mid... And AMBERGRIS in the base... If you're doubting these outrageous claims you can go to the MPG website or call them and ask for the notes yourself... I wouldn't have written anything except there are SO MANY errors in the notes listed here... Hopefully they can look into editing it... *** One of the best ambers ever made and among my all-time favorite perfumes ever ***

Ambre Precieux is truly is the best amber ever as it’s sultry, dry and slightly powdery but rich. It has that elegant vintage vibe as this amber is powdery, slightly incensey, slightly animalic and deliciously balsamic ‘n’ chewy. The amber here reminds me of the amber in Gucci Accenti (minus the fruity peach) as Ambre Precieux is solely about the amber. The bottle is beautiful and good value for a huge 120ml. Ambre Precieux is a stunning modern amber which shares the same category as Fétiche L’Ambre by Louboutin. I just love how hazy it is (in a patchouli way) and it’s almost fuzzy-soapy. The longevity is only moderate which is a shame. If you love amber, there is no other fragrance worth wasting your time with as it begins and ends with Ambre Precieux.

The first time I smelled this beauty on my wrist, I was literally winded. I felt like after all these years of searching, I have finally found THE ONE. It is the most perfect warm-sweet-amber, very mature and old world. It evokes a sense of luxurious security. It's as if everywhere I go, I'm protectively enveloped by a cloud of vanilla and amber smoke. Definitely has a masculine quality about it, without being overly aggressive. Anyone know a where I can get my greedy little hands on a FB of the EDP?? Update 14/10/11: I found it on Perfume Emporium for $89.99!! As far as I can tell, they still have stock left. What a discovery! I have to say I love ambers for a start, but not all turn to be good on my skin; sometimes they turn sour, some others they turn siclky sweet. Ambre Précieux turn just like... perfection. It starts of like a medicine, I can smell pepper, but not too strong; and then some balsamic resins, like juniper or other woods give way to a powdery, smoky heart (incense,very present) and a sexy drydown of ambergris. It is really a sexy frag, very powdery, warm, but not overly feminine therefore it could be worn my a man, too. Not a lot of sillage - stays very close to skin, but you'll not be able to stop smelling your wrists - decent lasting powder: probably one of the best ambers around!

بعد 25 عام من الإستخدام المتواصل والمتقن في الأوقات الخاصة أجدني لم أوف هذا العطر الفاخر حقه من المديح، كتبت تعليقا عام 2016 ووجدته ضعيفا، احتاج كلمات مداد البحر حتى أوف هذا الأيقونة حقه، إنه عطر العنبر الثمين بمعنى الكلمة. عطر مكتمل وفاخر. أشعر بالإمتنان لخوان لابورت كثيرا لإبتكاره العطر. تمتلئ خزانتي بالعطور الفاخرة ولكن عنبر بيرسو هو درة التاج لجميع العطور الفاخرة. لا تنتهي من عندي زجاجة الا والأخرى الجديدة تحل مكانها بلا تردد. قال خوان لابورت أثناء ابتكار هذا العطر : يجب أن تكون رائحة القداسة غير عادية! وقد أبدع فعلا في ذلك. من الرائع جدا أن يكون لك علاقة وثيقة مع عطر ثمين كهذا تمتد منذ التسعينات الميلادية وتجد نفسك كل عام تتعلق أكثر ويزداد وفاؤك. خوان فرانسوا لابورت، لو انك حي حبيت خشمك.

Ambre Precieux is a beautiful rich warm amber. Very smooth and with lots of character, not a boring or flat scent at all. Definitely a snuggler. It has a bit of a spicy touch (for character) and is a little sweet (for the snuggle factor) but not gourmandy in any way. I find good amber scents to be very soothing so I love to wear them before going to sleep at night. This is one of the best for nighttime. It has great longevity on my skin and I'll still be smelling it in the morning. It also has fabulous longevity on fabric and stays on your bed sheets for a couple days. AP is one of my top 2 favorite amber scents, running a close second to Histoire de Parfum's Ambre 114.
