Centaure

Wonderful.This perfume is a natural evolution from another one by the same Nose (J. Laporte). I'm talking about L'Eau du Caporal,a discontinued L'Artisan fragrance. They have many common notes,but,where "The Caporal" was a beautiful and suave Mint/Lavander combo (and peraphs the best use of Mint ever done in parfumery) Centaure is more aggressive and under certain point of views strange enough to keep at bay many people from it. The first feeling is that of a mosquitos repeller! But I find the ensamble irresistible. A bold fragrance for bold guys.

The product image is incorrect. It should be the red flat bottle. Centaure does not carry the bright, detergent-like clarity typical of many modern masculine fragrances. It feels closer to a classic French aromatic fougère, with a clearly defined structure and a strong sense of raw materials. Anyone who appreciates mint will likely respond well to this composition. In many fragrances, mint can resemble toothpaste, but here it feels more like freshly crushed mint leaves blended with citrus peel and bitter orange leaf. The herbal character is pronounced and distinctly green. The lavender is handled in a similarly traditional way. It is not soft or powdery. Instead, it reflects the dry, clean, slightly sharp-edged lavender often found in classic men’s perfumery. When combined with fir needles, resinous tones, and the tart green edge of blackcurrant skin, the result forms a profile that reads as firmly masculine. In the drydown, the tobacco is treated with restraint. It appears as a dry extension of the herbal structure rather than as a dominant note. Oakmoss and vetiver introduce a faintly damp woody nuance that supports the base. The overall composition is clear, cohesive, and rooted in the classical aesthetic associated with early MPG creations—unconcerned with current trends. It is a strong example of the style, though the appeal is naturally limited to a narrower audience.

Wow, one comment from 2019 and then 2013....that's ten years ago!!! Maître P & G needs to seriously work on their marketing......nobody knows they exist! And that's too bad as their fragrances are excellent. Centaur is no exception.....a vintage blend that resembles nothing else......citrus, stewed fruit and herbs on a bed of opulent musks. If Shalimar were a guy, this is what he would smell like.......

Starts with some citrus, a great juicy blackcurrant, and a touch of mint. Later add in jasmine and vetiver with tobacco, and it all dries down to a mossy musk tinged with blackcurrant. Good projection for the first few hours and lasts, especially on clothing, for a long time. So far my favorite use of the blackcurrant in perfumery, and a great one overall!

incense hay licorice old citrus rooty could just be my sample, it might be a vintage decant from the perfumed court because i do not get freshness or green, just a dominant sweet-fruity dried grass accord not my cup of tea ...smells like the dried flowers you get in a craft store

A great fragrance : fruity herbal and citrusy, fresh, but with some backbone. Great for every occasion.
