Jasmin

(Update as of June 2021: If anybody in the US wants to purchase my bottle, feel free to PM me) This is a positively stunning interpretation of the exotic and most revered (by me, anyway) jasmine flower. Like other reviewers, I'm initially reminded of Joy. Unlike Joy, this becomes more green and fresh as it wears, and the note of rose in the first few minutes is almost imperceptible. Civet is used skillfully here, whereas in Joy it is acrid imho. Really the two perfumes are quite different and only bare a resemblance in the first 10 minutes or so. Jasmin is the only jasmine perfume I have ever smelled that immediately causes Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze" to play in my head. Jasmine has been in bloom in Northern California lately, and I have had my fun sniffing white and pink flowers up close to use as a reference point for all the jasmine sampling I have been doing. I am not sure there is a jasmine soliflore more true to the scent of sweet, white jasmine than this perfume--in the heart. When it dries down, it becomes a little more sensual and animalic. A La Nuit does not even come close to this. I can't say much else other than to sing praises; it's breathtaking. Absolutely full bottle worthy. Jasmine is one of my favourite notes, and this scent is a beautiful rendition of it. Whilst presented as a simple soliflore, there is so much more here than meets the eye; multiple levels of depth and unwavering classical beauty. It’s got the white, soapy clean facets of Jasmine you’d expect, but it’s surprisingly green, dewy, pulpy and stemmy. As though you’re smelling the plant as a whole, not just the flower. I pick up a strong presence of lily of the valley, despite not being listed. This is a stunning perfume, for those who truly love a classically French appreciation for this wonderful flower. It bears a noticeable similarity to Diorissimo, but obviously leaning more into the direction of Jasmine. Beautiful.

This is a very light, green jasmine very easy to wear. Compared to Keiko Mecheri's Jasmine this is softer, less creamy (KM's is VERY CREAMY) and greener. Even though I do not like rose at all, the presence of rose here in MPG Jasmin is very nice. Pretty dominant at the back and giving an airy feeling that is very lovely. At times the perfume has a cold undertone, a chilly sensation which is far from being disturbing, all the contrary. It's as if angels were bearing on their wings the jasmine flowers in a flight through the clouds. Very beautiful. The oakmoss drydown is particularly soft, muted, refined. A very classy scent, very natural, not feeling artificial at all. A must have for those who love jasmine but are in awe of its strong scent and wish a lighter rendition of its beautiful perfume.

Discontinued, what a pity. I finished my bottle. So what will be my next jasmin? A la Nuit is jasmin of a different kind. More indolic, very natural but sometimes I want my jasmin more green and fresh. I think I will turn to the jasmin in J' Adore Absolu. On the other hand, if there was really natural castoreum and civet in Jasmin, I am glad that it has been discontinued.
