Mon Nom est Rouge

Mon nom et Rouge is one of my favorite rose fragrances of all time. Most rose fragrances are very petal focused and while some in that style are amazing to experience like Paul Smith's Rose, the majority of those petal heavy rose scents either smell like an air freshener or a scent worn by a pearl wearer. I say this all the time but it bears repeating...I don't want to smell like granny. Mon Nom is a deep sexy rose scent that's very dark, very rich and very smokey. If you thought Oud Satin Mood by MFK or Portrait of a Lady were dark rose scents you haven't smelled dark roses until you have smelled Mon Nom. It manages to smell spiritual and sexual which is a little weird but very cool. It smells a lot like Epic Woman by Amouage, which figures because the same perfumer made both scents 3 years apart from each other, but Mon Nom, which came out after Epic, smells more unisex overall and to me it's more of an improvement on the Epic idea. Many men consider Lyric Man by Amouage to be the best rose fragrance ever made that a man can wear. Mon Nom Est Rouge is more masculine to me than Lyric man and more interesting than Lyric Man. Lyric man, which I also own, is a very well made rose fragrance but there is something about Lyric Man that smells very old school lady. Mon Nom smells neither handsome or pretty. It's both genderless and timeless. It was made 8 years ago but smells like a niche scent that could've come out yesterday. Many Rose/ Incense fragrances contain oud in them to make them more unisex and sexy. Mon Nom goes a different route utilizing tons of spices in the form of ginger, cumin, cardamom, pink pepper, cinnamon and vanilla. U don't typically find spice to that degree in many rose fragrances and this is what elevates Mon Nom beyond scents it's compared to imo. Mon Nom is very thick and dense but starts off breathy and airy. The pink pepper and ginger really come off my skin in the early stages. The rose lets it self be known from the get go and it will remind you of the jammy roses you've smelled in other niche fragrances. This jammy rose just comes off different due to the co star notes in the perfume. I get any where from 8- 10 hours every time I wear it and it will stick to cloth for days. I'd recommend using Mon Nom Est Rouge for night out scenarios or cold weather day scenarios that don't include the office. I'd wear it in all seasons but summer. This is another scent which will make people notice you. It's very bold and will work best on confident people. Big personalities or social folks, this is the rose for you. Get a sample of it. Folks with a more conservative style or introverts may want to steer clear. Mon Nom will make you a center of attention so if you are the type to be self conscious when people can smell your fragrance, skip this one. If I had to think of negatives about it: *If u don't like strong scents skip this...Or you could simply learn how to wear strong fragrances. (1-2 sprays under your clothes and not on exposed skin like your neck)... *If your not in a certain phase in your fragrance journey this may not appeal to you. This isn't an easy fragrance. If u are in the stinky cheese phase of your journey, you might get why this scent is awesome but if you are in the cheddar cheese phase of your journey this will likely be too much. Come back to it in a couple years tho. As you can see i have issues thinking of things to say to bash it. I really dig this fragrance. If I had to rate it using my P>A>G>E> rating system, i'd rate it an Exceptional or an "E" scent. It's again one of the best rose fragrances a man can wear today and I stand behind that 100%. Women smell amazing in it also. Mon Nom Est Rouge just smells sexy and few rose fragrances smell sexy. If you like dark fragrances, spicy fragrances or rose fragrances, I would really consider this...Hell if you hate rose fragrances, I still would recommend this one. This is indeed fairy tale in a bottle. This fragrance tells a story which is intense, intriguing, quirky yet at the same time conceals a dark shadow like mystery. It is such a great story you just don't know where to start and yet for some reason can not remember how it ends because long after you worn it, long after it is gone, the story keeps going on in the depths of your subconscious. This fragrance starts indeed with that fizzy pop sparkling behavior the previous user mentioned. Just when I thought the fizzy face would just remain for just a few minutes. However it keeps bubbling for easily 2 to 3 hours on my skin. And I never expected the effect to last so long. Even though it is a smell, it tastes like sparkling sweet red muscat wine with a lot of interesting facets. There is indeed a lot going on to keep you entertained for hours and hours. This is an intense orchestra of notes played very well in such a manner which might be overwhelming to others. I personally think this entire composition is great on all levels. Scent wise, strength wise, longevity wise and quality wise. Applause to the perfumer for making a fragrance which is true to it's name. Her name is Red and one would be lucky to fall for the magic she has to reveal. With this review I have failed in being able to explain to you how this fragrance smell like. It's just that this fragrance is one I highly recommend you to try along your fragrance journey. You may not like it because it may not suit your personality very well , however you will highly appreciate and respect it for the long hours of interesting olfactory entertainment it has to offer.

Mon Nom Est Rouge - "My Name is Red" is a book title by Orhan Pamuk, a favorite of Majda's. She tried to capture the color red in a fragrance. She said: "We decided it is a spiced rose. Rose with a velvety sensation, with a metallic taste of blood from its thorns." This is gorgeous. I agree with reviewer majestic mammy, this is similar to Amouage Epic Woman! Also with amaraztavich's friend, it does at times smell like the inside of the little wooden cedar souvenir boxes. Beautiful blend of turkish rose, incense, and cedar. One benefit, I did not develop full anosmia at any point. Emphasis on the different notes shifted continually. When my nose developed a tolerance for one note, another emerged and took its' place so that I was able to enjoy the perfume all day. For a time, I could smell the tobacco, then the amber, then cinnamon, with the rose/cedar/incense accord to support it all. Overall the strength of the fragrance stayed strong and was a pleasure to wear. Majda, and her perfumer who created the scent, Cecile Zarokian, did accomplish their goals. This is a complex, lovely perfume. The above quote is from Serguey Borisov's article on Fragrantica where he interviewed Majda at the Pitti Fragranze in '12. You can read her favorite passages from the book in the article, along with the ideas Zarokian had, about notes to paint the picture of the fragrance. A beautiful story to inspire the fragrance!

I don't understand those haters who think about themselfs that they have such a great nose and great feeling about every smell, or note or accord.They even find very easy synthetics or natural smells, iso E super in Mon Mom est Rouge, but not in all series of Comme de Garcons or Encre Noir for men. I bought several times perfumes that have eulogies from those great noses and I just found myself in front of a submediocre perfumes. I think that this perfume in not that bad, it doesn't at all smell like ISO E Super or incense. In my country we burn inside the house and churches incense for the beautiful smell and I can find it in here. From the votes this one should smell like Portrayt of a Lady- Frederic Malle, and it is not. I think that smelling perfumes is better with comparation. So...try Akkad and see the similarities...like elemi resins and see what this smell it's about. I think this is a very warm perfume and very nice. Don't buy or not buy perfumes from the tales in here. Buy whatever your nose and soul likes. "Les conosseurs" should try to make their own "very natural" perfume.

This is true olfactive and presentation artistry. I don’t find this feminine at all. I think it’s in the middle. Portrait of a Lady is more feminine than this one. This is less sweet and more incense. POAL incense came through very nice on my skin, but it wasn’t enough as rose steals the show. Mom mom is perfect to me. Dry incense forward, rose in the background (on me). It reminds me slightly of Kilian Incense Oud, which is in my top 5 fragrances ever made. I love Majdas offerings because I absolutely love incense. It’s one of my favorite notes in perfumary. This marks the end of my sample. I just ordered a bottle of that tells you what I think of this fragrance. I wore it today and it lasted much longer than I thought it was going to last. I had a bottle of incense Oud by Kilian on order, but then got a message from the seller saying they already sold it. Oh well, I saved $180 by getting a 50ml of this. I am impressed with Bekkali’s use of incense, I am very picky with incense, but this is just magnificent! 9.5/10
