Leather

Before anything else, this review is for the oil rollerball version of this fragrance, not the EDP. Often the performance and notes can differ a bit with sprays vs. rollerball applicators, as with Lake & Skye's 11 11, where the oil has better longevity than the spray, but has a bit less sillage. To me this opens very floral. The lily of the valley overpowers everything else very briefly in the beginning, but pretty soon it quiets down enough that the other notes can shine, and interestingly, the alchemy of the many different notes at times harmonizes into something very close to the smell of fresh dandelions. The specific leather note in this is not rugged, tough leather, but actually the semi-sweet powdery scent of soft handbag leather. It's present throughout, if a bit swamped by the florals in the opening. I would have liked the leather in this to be just a tad stronger given the name, but it's definitely there. The warm, earthy woods and spices are subtle, but to my nose they actually prop up the entire fragrance (sort of like very skilled stage hands at a live performance, you know they're doing their job well because you hardly notice them, but without them the whole show would fall apart). This lasts around 7-8 hours on my skin. The sillage is pretty decent for about the first 3-4 hours of that, then it becomes a skin scent. This fragrance strikes me as incredibly versatile; understated enough for daytime/the office, but sultry enough for a night-time/date night fragrance. In my opinion, this would be good in any season, but it's especially fantastic for autumn. It would work best paired with an outfit that includes a leather jacket, or any other leather pieces, to help bring out that note in the fragrance.

the perfume's namesake is not very present, not in the slightest, but it has an allure similar to a nice leather shoe. something about this perfume screams "san franciscan who's a casual smoker and is wearing below-knee heeled boots." very cool girl energy. it opens very woody and spicy, and then slowly develops into a smoky stunner. it subtly leans out of a masculine fragrance into an androgynous one. then, i find the floral notes come to play, as the wood and spice mellow. the cedar is still VERY apparent, but the violet helps beat it down. when it is fully dry, it doesn't change much. throughout the day, i smell it on me-- it lasts a long time. i like this layered over a scent with a strong lychee/mango/tropical fruit note. many people describe this fragrance as clean or safe, but i think the person for this fragrance is really anything other than that. it's a bit daring, a bit edgy, a bit unrefined. it isn't elegant, but has enough raw potential where its just right.

This is one of my new scent obsessions. I’ve finally found a woody scent that doesn’t pull super masculine or choke me out with cedar/sandalwood. I get prominent woods in the opening, but this quickly dies down a bit and the florals are revealed. I mostly get violet, which is a note I quite enjoy. The leather is also there, but it is not overwhelming and gives a slightly powdery nuance. Despite the name being leather, I think the florals and woods are the stars. I get spice from the pepper and cloves as well. It ends up drying down to a powdery-violet scent with woods in the background. This is a classy woodsy scent made more complex with the addition of florals. I can see this working as an everyday scent or an evening scent if you apply generously. I think it may be overwhelming in high heat though. I can also see the comparisons to Santal 33 and I agree with another reviewer that it’s more wearable, as well as versatile and non-offending.

Malin+Goetz’s Leather perfume is an unexpected love! And I mean love it that I am considering buying a bottle even though it doesn’t really performs like your traditional leather perfume. Meaning it’s rather weak and sits close to the skin!! Scent wise, it is a very warm, soft spicy, powdery, buttery, creamy, mildly sweet, floral take on a leather perfume, hence the reason I am so obsessed with it... Also, if you want a traditional leather scent, something masculine, dark, rough, this ain’t that! This is rather a feminine leather scent, or might be unisex. It’s actually not even a leather dominant fragrance truthfully, like the name suggests, it’s more of a smooth sandalwood, cloves, violet flowers, orchids, lotus, pepper almost equal parts as much as leather! It’s unique, comforting, vintage, refined and unusual but in an addictive way, different and so beautifully smelling. A mass appealing floral, creamy leathery perfume! It’s perfection

This is my winter go-to (roll-on version)! If you like Santal 33, you'll love this one, not to say there are dupes but they're just in the same language so to speak. It's very spicy and peppery at the beginning (love the pepper in this one) and then slowly transitions into a very nice flowery fragrance accompanied by the ever-present woody and leathery notes. Very very powerful androgenous scent that has both feminine and masculine elements that balance each other out beautifully. Unsure how this fragrance would perform in its EDP version as I have to say, I have the brand's Cannabis fragrance both in roll-on and EDP versions, and I much prefer the roll-on. I don't love the spray that their bottles have and just feel that the essential oils for these perform better in oil. Also, the roll-on version for Leather lasts for ever and stays in my clothes for days!

This is a beautiful leather scent. A lot of leather-dominant scents smell like it came straight from the factory - artificial or too raw of a note?. As another reviewer stated below, it's not as smokey. This one is simply elegant - i don't know if it's just my skin and it blended really well - a creamy leather. I think it's a nice skin scent with a leathery overlay - A "sweater weather" scent (or a leather jacket weather haha). I can KINDA see why some people might be reminded by Santal 33 but it's definitely not as green/"pickle-y" as Santal 33. I definitely prefer this over Santal 33 any day. LOVE and it's a must have in my collection (soon!).

M+G Leather opens up spicy and floral, but the leather is there. It comes off as fresh and creamy though, this isn't aged or rugged leather. It's brand new and supple...clean with a little edge. This makes me think of expensive leather goods. It's kinda sexy, so maybe even a leather harness or corset...polished, but a little naughty underneath This is super easy and versatile, so perfect to wear anytime, anywhere. Also, this layers really well with other fragrances, especially vanilla and woodsy scents. The oil version of this is really good too. It performs almost just as well as the perfume. This is good stuff, glad I discovered it.

i definitely agree with {aweso10} i does come off more elegant suede than biker chique i personally would not call it a skin scent, it projected quite well on me. i have smelled Santal 33, i definitely wouldn’t call it a dupe, although they have a similar aura to them. but i haven’t worn santal on the skin so i can’t really speak to that. i love this scent. last well, beautifully well rounded. to me it smells luxurious, like a well dressed smart woman shopping on the high street. makes me feel so put together and a little bit obsessed with myself 😅 but for me that’s a good thing. cannot wait to try the fragrance oil version!

A great scent that is remiscient of Santal 33, but as it leans in a a sweeter, almost bubble gum, direction I'd say it reminds me more of Bois de Balincourt. The scent lasts all day, and although its called Leather, the sandalwood is the main note with the spice of the peppers and cloves lifting it up. I would describe the scent as a reading nook where the sunlight warms your bones even on the coldest days. The longevity is great, projection remains constant throughout wear (even on busy days), and its one of the few that I have gotten compliments on. Excellent especially at such an attainable price.

I had the perfume oil first, and it was easily one of the best $30 I've spent on a fragrance. I recently acquired a bottle of the edp. This is a warm and sweet leather. I definitely get the violet (reminds me of violet candy, if you're familiar). Perfect for autumn, or cool spring mornings or nights. This is similar to Santal 33, but I like Leather much better. It's warmer and smoother, and it doesn't have that sharp dill note.

a rich, luxurious suede leather scent warmed by woody and spicy notes. i love it so much that i wish it had more longevity and a bit more sillage. depending on how you wear it, it can be very rough and sexy, but i think it's wearable any time. i don't detect too much of the florals personally i originally had a sample of the eau de parfum but ended up buying the oil formula just cause i prefer the control of a roller ball

this isn’t leather you smoke in like a fat tarry cigar or the heavy biker jacket type, it’s leather that slides against skin, suede slick and indecently soft. the pepper has a biting quality but doesn’t hog the spotlight, the violet is wet from snapping stems or better put crushed cucumber, it’s dewy and hovers perfectly above the leather, it’s fresh, carnal, spectral. and i am soooo in love with it.

Favorite of the Discovery Kit. I got the full size in oil, which I prefer. The oil offers great longevity. Unusual, layered, a "sour" element that I love. It's a non-obvious fragrance I wear out to bars and shows and more sub-cultured/ arts scenes I end up in. Reminds me of Santal 33, but they are super different. Did a comparison and Leather shows up as fruitier, warmer, and less dry.

I sniffed many a leather frag to be wedding perfume and was thrilled when I smelled this. Very buttery, smooth leather with a just- right balance of powdery floral and an opening pepper kick. Perfect fragrance if you are queer, getting married in the desert, and the dress code is "colorful western". I could see the photographer suddenly awaken to my appeal when they sniffed my arm.

fell in love with Leather in seconds... this beautiful, beckoning sweetness on the opening that i immediately knew I had to have. then you get the notes of leather, sandalwood, cedar, the spice from the cloves & pepper. it smells like you're in a dark forest but there's somehow all of these fragrant flowers blooming despite the lack of sunlight. sexy and magical. just wow.

Masculine-sexy leather & wood. Tom Ford Ébene Fumé vibe. Love layering each w/ fem frags. M+G layered w/ almost any fem Jo Malone fragrance is delectable. Following JM’s inevitable premature dénouement, M+G Leather retains its tumescence, embracing JM’s most dainty note, reviving & seducing her into a decadent crescendo of evocative succulence. Sigh! I need a ciggy... 🤤 🚬

initial spray is sweet, spicy and slightly smokey. dries down more leathery, but a dry, slightly sweet leather with woodsy notes and a hint of smokiness. unisex, leans masculine. i have the oil (roller), which is similar, but lacks the smokiness and dries more powdery. slightly more feminine than the spray and great longevity. neither particularly remind me of santal 33.

santal 33's more meek n mild sister- way softer, a bit of a cashmere, skin scent vibe that doesn't really come off as a leather jacket/tattoo parlor/biker gang type leather but more of a soft suede. the floral notes combine with the pepper and clove to give it a barely-there essence. it's super likeable, but nothing out of this world.

Absolutely love this, which reinforces my obsession with unisex woodsy scents. I'll layer this with my Maison Louis Marie Bois de Balincourt. They're similar in the opening notes, although this one is a bit more bright & present in the dry down. Oh how I long for that first brisk autumn day... But this will do until that day comes.

I absolutely love this scent. It's the perfect unisex, and while reminiscent of leather, is more complex than the name suggests. The only problems I have with are that it's way overpriced like most M + G products, and that EVERYONE owns it so I smell it everywhere on other people, meaning I don't use mine as much,

My boyfriend got me a Malin+Goetz discovery set and this was the first one I reached for. Clove + leather blend into a divinely creamy opening that I seriously can't get over. Pretty good sillage + longevity for the price point, I'm certainly impressed and I definitely will be getting a bottle. Overall 9/10

if you're out there looking for a bad boy motorcycle riding cowboy, don't bother. just buy this perfume instead and fulfill that dream yourself. this smells like the name. leather. its a perfect unisex smell, decent longevity. i really enjoy it.

I prefer this to santal 33 (having had a tester). The woodsy notes are more prominent to me and it has a nicer flowery note. I have the roll on version and it’s lasts for over a day on my skin. A really excellent scent!

Sweet leather opening with woods and florals. a little different from most other leather scents i've tried but very good. Might lean masculine or feminine depending on who you ask but is true unisex

This is a review for the perfume OIL, unforch frag don't have the oil listed. I don't know what to make of this scent, it is definitely pleasant but not to my tastes. Grassy, green and refreshing somewhat zingy but not because of a sharpness, just a quality that could keep you animated. For the name leather I suppose I expected something a bit darker, sexier but this is clean and daytime. And for those reasons I think this is a great work/office fragrance, it's friendly with a bit of edge that isn't a generic citrusy springtime affair but not at the cost of any appeal. The oil is a beast, it never really settles until 8 hours in, meaning it smells as it does on application for most of the wear which is impressive. I do like this fragrance it just isn't for me and if I was to smell this on someone I'd think they smell nice but it wouldn't leave an impression and such perfumes need to exist and this is a great one! Just not something I'll go for again but will use until it's finished.

It smells great if you like this type of scent. To *my* nose it smells nearly identical to Le Labo Santal 33 and MLM No.04. Strong on the sweet woody scent of sandalwood and powdery essence. Obviously there are subtle differences, but they're extreeeeeeemely similar. I already own Le Labo Santal 33 so I'll be returning this, but it's good to know that this is a very suitable alternative for a literal fraction of the price. That said - I am looking for a fall/winter fragrance that is similar to the ones I mentioned above but is different enough and substantially ~mysterious and warm~ to be used for fall. I was hoping this would have more of a leather scent. If anyone has recommendations I AM OPEN TO THEM!

As far as leather fragrances go, this one leans mild and clean. The leather is dry and smooth. The cedar is dusty yet crisp, like fresh sawdust in a well-kept stable, and the floral element is gentle, like an open field of small, delicate flowers the day after a big rain. It's rustic and unisex, but with a subtly pretty element. For me it evokes a well-kept ranch; mid-September; father and daughter taking the horses out on a casual ride through the fields, letting them graze a bit as she recounts her first week of high school and he prompts her with occasional questions, shortly-worded but attentive.

This scent really depends on your skin. I tried it on my whole family and it really varies. Some had sweet floral starts and dry down to a wonderful warm woods while others had a more citrus start. Mine starts powdery floral with a slight funk that I like. It moves to this very soft leather. Someone mentioned leather like a nice purse or a very delicate suede. I would say it like a floral suede scent on me. I don’t get any santal 33. I think a comparison to it misses the fact that this scent is more nuanced and floral.

Very realistic leather smell. Usually I am not a big fan of leather fragrances because they are too heavy and offensive to my senses but this one is great. I like it and I think it smells delicious, rich and classy. It's a little smokey, soft but otherwise just true to the name. I see myself wearing this to a meeting or something else that requires work related tasks as for me this perfume feels like a confidence booster. Also it has a gorgeous dry down and a decent longevity of 3+ hours.

Not a huge fan of Santal 33 but this one I dig. Perhaps it's because it is more floral than Santal 33. It is quiet but it packs attitudes. I also appreciate the lotus & violet combo in this, gives the composition the aquatic and airy nuance. Sillage isn't too big but the longevity is really good on me. I sprayed it in the evening and I could still smell it after waking up the next day, although very faintly.

I'd summarize this fragrance as leather-y and powdery with traces of citrus at the top / then it draws near to Le Labo Santal 33 in the mid / & in the far dry down I get hints of Le Labo Iris 39 since the violet in this really pops when I wear Malin-Goetz Leather. A really nice scent all in all that you could rock daily.

Smells like leather. Like an actual leather coat. In a good way not overbearingly edgy but a cool and unique fragrance. Wear time isn't exceptional but I think if it lasted ages itd become overbearing. Very nice unisex scent. A little smokey without feeling too warm/peppery. I wear it pretty often. 7/10

The opening of this is really good: slightly spiced, smoky florals. The lotus and violet work really well. But after about 30 mins, it goes straight to pickly sandalwood. The florals and spices disappear completely. It’s a very astringent woody/leather smell, not at all creamy or smooth.

Got a nearly full bottle heavily discounted. Starts off as a basic ass Santal 33 ripoff, but the drydown lends itself to this almost powdery, floral side that makes it unique. Absolutely adore the way this smells when dried on the skin for awhile.

Smells like the Nordstrom shoe department. The strong smell of expensive leather, while nearby the perfume department customers spray expensive synthetic florals in the air, a hint of which float over to where you’re examining $500 loafers.

Quite reminiscent of Santal 33, BUT not a dupe. There is MUCH more leather, perfect amount of sweetness, and NO pickle brine (thank god!). Longevity and projection is a-okay (good for the price)! It always got me compliments.

A softer Santal 33. All sandalwood, no leather.

I write my reviews for my own future reference, and test blindly, not researching or looking up the name, notes, etc. till writing down my first impressions. Opens up light, a little bright, but this quickly dissipates, settling down into a moderate mix of green herbaceousness, and a hint of smoky incense in the background. It isn't fresh and green, or dark, moody, or musty. It is in-between. There's almost a scent of pine needles in there, but on the ground, not in your face. It's more plant-like. After a while it warms up. It has a nice earthy tone and is approachable. Ok, so I'm testing these blind, but there's only six, so I assumed this was the cannabis one? Nope! It's the leather one. And previously I thought the vetiver was leather. Just goes to show testing these blind leads you into analogies of your creation, and not a presubscribed reiteration of what you read. What I'm interpreting as earthy is leather. Wearing it a second time, yes it is definitely leather. It's not raw Tandy store leather, or slap in your face, you just paid too much for that riding crop, you dark BDSM devil, leather. It's middle of the road leather, like the inside of a newly fashioned quality handbag. Looking at the notes now, the cedar and sandalwood make sense. Any florals seem non-existent but might be floating on top. It does have an air of dusty powder at the very top, but again, I might be suggesting this now, only after seeing the notes. I get little hints of tobacco, but it's light. Sillage started moderate but became more intimate within 3 hours. It hung out for a while but mainly at an intimate level. If you're looking for a middle ground, more approachable sophisticated and earthy leather tone, this might be it.

This is a weird one. It opens with squeaky-clean cucumber, and then becomes a slick, almost plasticky futuristic scent, overlaid over a dark-brown leather lightly touched with violet. It dries down to a more muscular leather with a touch of animalism. Honestly I like it a lot; it reminds me of The Zoo Scent Tattoo’s sleek synthetic leather. (Except the Malin + Goetz scent is easier to find, and has a cooling cucumber accent instead of a red candy-lollipop note). If you like more typical, warm, earthy leathers you might find the “clear plastic” smell a little odd, but I’m fascinated. Spa-or-spaceship vibes, nicely balanced with something a little dark

I wanted to like this one. I really did. But something about the leather and the sandalwood in this totally overwhelmed me...an actual, physical headache. Let down...cuz in the store when I sampled it, it felt much creamier and lotus-like and good. But then when I bought some and wore it the next day it was all leather; no, more like pleather. I felt a thudding in my head, a thudding I tell you! I ended up giving it to my best friend and it smells nice on her, where it pulls more like how I first smelled it in the store. No fair. But, It’s cool how much one’s body chemistry influences fragrance.

Like a worn saddle covered in baby powder. The florals and pepper are clear, but after the drydown, all I'm getting is the most aggressive leather smell that has ever entered my nostrils. If you like leather, this is for you, but I wore it to work and I felt like I was teleported to an alternate universe where I was a strangely effeminate tanner. Could be big for someone. Not for me

Masculine leather, reminds me of Autumn Vibes, not By The Fireplace, by Margiela, but this one is much more purer leather, while Margiela's is a bit more sour? Nevertheless, leaves a rather pleasant sweet aftertaste, would mix it with Jazz Club or By The Fireplace to keep the darker tar notes more visible
