Aoud Black Candy

This is a light licorice/sweet perfume with a little minty/flowery opening. The mint scent is not not a scent but more like a little cool feel around the top notes. When it settles (in about one hour) the licorice remains and the Oud /musk come out. Yes there is Oud here, but it is soft and tamed. There just enough Oud to blend well with the overall scent of this fragrance but not to dominate it. I can smell it more so during the dry-down and on my skin the morning after wearing it (if I don't remove the perfume before going to bed). Its function is to add a very light smokiness/woodiness behind the licorice. I can detect it well and clearly, unlike other reviews have stated. As Madrona says, this perfume is not overly licorice sweet nor Oud/musk dark. It walks between these two extremes. I don't smell the amber at all. I think, like the Oud , it contributes to the aggregate scent of the perfume by adding sweetness without making this an amber perfume. I do smell a flower note at the opening but it fades away within the hour. This is not a Mancera bomb like some of the darker Oud perfumes in the Mancera lineup. This is a subdued juice, befitting of occasions and places where you have to get close to people. If it was stronger on the licorice and Oud departments it would be total love for me. Not full love, but nonetheless, I like and enjoy it. Girls at work love it. It don't perceive much projection but people who walk by me smell it beyond my personal bubble. I can smell it at skin level for 6 - 8 hours. Just a minor note. Like its brother, Aoud Cafe, Aoud Black Candy hits me with a little celery smelling opening which quickly goes away (within 5 minutes). I also disagree the Mancera perfumes are like Montale's. Yes , there are some strong ones here but in general I find Mancera using Oud in a different way (to blend in and shape the smell of the perfume without becoming Oud dominant).

I'm a little shocked this hasn't got more attention, because it really is amazing. This was a blind buy. I found it dirt cheap and the notes looked interesting enough. I really think anyone could wear this year round and smell great. You won't smell like everyone else, or anyone else for that matter. If a stranger walked by and I got a sniff of this, I'd definitely ask what it is. And that's not something I do a lot. It's really great but it's not obnoxious. It will get you noticed in the classiest way possible. I can see how some would think it leans fem because of the rose and powder. It's not overly sweet like I thought it would be. It also isn't projecting like crazy either. On me, it's just a very cool and clean scent. Very clean. I'm unsure about the versatility because of the powdery floral. Office, church, running errands, having a drink at an upscale bar/restaurant, yes. This would be perfect for a coffee date or a wedding. I probably wouldn't recommend wearing it at a biker bar or some slummy shit hole, unless you have a penchant for getting your ass kicked.

I blind bought this because licorice and anise notes are interesting to me. This is the first fragrance I own by Mancera and i'm not disappointed. Upon application I was a little thrown off by the huge influx of rose, but rest assured it does meld down into something beautiful. I can understand how someone could sense celery in the opening, but it isn't an aspect that persists and from another opinion I know that it only smells this way up close(at the beginning). What you are left with after awhile is damp roses with smokey licorice tones with white musk and yes accented by aoud, but not the typical middle eastern style aoud that we are normally used to. If you are a licorice fan and understand the difference between it and anise I would say go ahead and try this one. It's suitable in any weather in my opinion and is signature scent worthy. I love it, it's good.

Not nearly as over-the-top or saccharine as I had warily expected. Aoud Black Candy is sort of the snappier, watery counterpart to Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin. It's crisp--a bright woody licorice note with a candied flavor and some very mild tones of rose floating in the background. Performance is solid, and I was surprised by its polite, relatively restrained level of projection. Other people will certainly smell it, but Aoud Black Candy is in no way an obnoxious attention-whore. It's not an Oud fragrance either, so you can forget about that. If anything, this release by Mancera reminds me of an updated, sharper and more sophisticated version of Body Kouros. The bottle is much prettier as well. Altogether an enjoyable, easy wear and worth checking out for fans of licorice notes and fragrances with a sweet side. I like this one a lot.Thumbs up.

Oh, this is good. I've recently discovered my love for licorice in perfumes and I can't get enough. Mancera Black Candy is my newest licorice and it is gorgeous. It opens with a minty licorice which is fresh and unique. There is an underlying rose which anchors this scent and gives it more body. The oud is gentle and "western". This is an easy, all season perfume which is unique enough to separate you from all the popular mainstream ones. I do not find this cloying. Performance is great. This minty licorice is so intoxicating. I'm wearing Black Candy on this 92F (though I'm inside with ac at 79F) and it is amazing. EDIT: On this 48F cold morning, Black Candy is even better. 2 sprays are more than enough. Love.

I just bought this perfume and i have to admit it was "love with the first smell" :). It's exactly as i like perfumes strong, woody and discrete. It remembers me my great mother, she used to put the yellow flowers in her closet and i think it has yellow flowers in this fragrance. Licorice mixed with white musk rose and amber inside make it very special. I would strongly recommend this fragrance to everyone who likes strong and long lasting perfumes.

I am very surprised at the comments. I absolutely love this perfume, it is one of my most complimented ones! To me it smells sweet and woody. The oud here is bright, and gives the scent a fresh woody cleanliness, that is tamed down by the liquorice note. Very close to being my signature.

Absolutely phenomenal- I cannot stand the slightest whiff of licorice, it makes me sick, but here Pierre Montale has created a combination of smoky and sweet scents that result in a beautiful licorice/candy/smoky fragrance. Outstanding. A full on, strong scent, not for tender noses.

Could someone please let me know why is it called 'Aoud' Black Candy? There is no aoud mentioned in the ingredients list...please answer to me! The scent is gorgeous: sweet, woody and spicy at the same time, no cloying, very very interesting. I like it at all on my wish list.

My second review: the licorice is very prominent at the beginning and half an hour later it becomes softer. The frag is very interesting, unique, sweet, woody and i detect a soapy note on my skin...supreme scent, but IMO is more appreciable in winter time.

The comments saying it smells like bathroom are super tired. Like come on people not every fragrance smells like a bathroom or urinal cakes. All that tells me is that you don't know fragrances or your nose has issues

Oh, I like this! So far it's the best licorice fragrance I have tried. I've used with great pleasure my sample and now am getting a full bottle. Opening is quite "black" and bombastic, but when it settles it becomes pure pleasure, definitely leaning feminine. Even though candy is in the title, it doesn't get too sweet, just about right to make it inviting and enjoyable. And yes, feminine. I don't get much oud, at least not the usual medicinal, or dark woody or black carbon type of oud. There is something dark in the background that gives the fragrance a "touch of magic", a kiss of darkness hehe...but not the oud as I know it. On my skin amber and musk are quite prominent, specially musk. It is not the arabic or masculine or artificial type of musk. It smells very pleasant and natural, like "girls in a dressing room, after a shower".. I'm very happy with that cause I'm sucker for that kind of "female skin" musk. Or maybe I'm just lucky to have that skin chemistry. At one point it did remind me of Dior's Poison, the drydown, back when it was released. Not the notes because obviously they are different, but the feeling it gives me, the vibe. Actually, instead of Hypnotic poison EDP they should have released this, because this licorice fits much better in the Poison family. Anyways, I highly recommend to try this, for anyone looking for a licorice scent.

The ACTUAL notes are! Top: Black Licorice, minty notes Mid: Rose, Amber, woody notes Base: Intense Oud, sensual white musk Whoever put the notes up here were just lazy or put only what they smell, which either way it’s still wrong. This fragrance does have Oud and fragrantica is misleading people by not adding the real notes. Having said that and getting that out of the way, on to the fragrance. Opens up herbal like a cool night air with the mint, and the black licorice gives me the image of sitting out on the front porch in the country enjoying a a bag of licorice. You have a cup of coffee with a lot of sugar in it to warm you up from the night air. The rose, Amber a woody notes actually come in strong for a brief second after that to add a dark soapy sweet tone. It doesn’t change much at all after the opening fades away, you’re mostly left with a dark woody, coffee, ever so slight soapy sweet strong licorice scent with some herbal tones in the background. I’m personally a huge fan of it and will wear it a lot during the month of October as I feel like this is a festive fall scent. However it can be dressed up and dressed down as well. It doesn’t lean feminine at all despite the votes. If anything it’s unisex leaning much more masculine. It’s very good scent and one I’m glad to have.

Watery, Black jelly bean Opens with the typical Mancera/Montale Rose and Aoud but, not as potent as some others. Both dry down allowing the dried fruits to appear and some how create a liquorice, black jelly bean smell which remains a constant for its entirety. A fist full of black jelly beans in a cup of water, is what I'm getting. I get why people remark a celery smell but, its too candied and liquorice smelling to be confused with celery. Not a beast mode fragrance but, close too it.

Trip353 I agree with not being able to smell the sweetness that everyone else is smelling. All I get is a powdery musky floral type scent with a tinge a licorice. Heavy on the powdery and musky...I still like it though. And unlike others I feel you can wear this scent all year round and not just cooler months...just have watch your sprays in the heat. It performed better for me in the heat(not super high heat) vs the winter.

I simply don't understand where people are coming from vis a vis "candy" in the notes. This fragrance has licorice,.yes. Yet, it's the licorice which is from sniffing the licorice root. I just can't find the "sugary" stuff. Where is the candy? I cannot smell it at all. This is an Oud-heavy (earthy, woody, musky) smell. I tried it because I wanted a fragrance which had the *sugary* scent of a Good & Plenty. Damn.

When I think "black candy" - I think licorice jellybeans and sweet licorice candies. The salty licorice top note is quite the surprise. I'm not a huge salty licorice fan, but the surprise of this top note makes this scent a worthwhile sniff. The dry-down morphs to a sweet-leaning musk laced with the Montale/Mancera trademark oud rose. I can see myself craving this one when I'm in the mood for a challenge.

I bought this one because I heard it smells like Lolita Lempicka and also lasts longer, and I'm glad I bought it, but I can't ignore the lovage hint in it. There's something in the opening that reminds me of a herb you put in soup, but once you passed that lovage opening it's smooth, dense and musky and luring, a bit creamy even. It performs nicely on skin and clothes, overall a nice perfume, 8/10.

This is such a strange fragrance but I do really like it. It really is just a strong black licorice with some lighter floral notes. I do occasionally get a strong celery note especially in the opening which I am not a fan of. Definitely not blind-buy safe but if you want something very unique I would recommend. Have not gotten any compliments with this one tho

Not black enough nor candy enough for me personally. The oud is most certainly there, as is the liquorice, but it just doesn't tickle me the right way. Still, it's not a dislike, but I expected more from this one. It's less black and more dark gray, if that makes sense.

This is one of the few Manceras whose NAME actually FITS the fragrance. IT is really is just black candy. Luxurious, deep, somewhat dark, rich licorice. It's like candy for adults. Performance could be a bit better, but I really enjoy this one!

Particular scent with reminiscent of liquorice. I do not know if I can wear it but I think I'd much about others.

I can’t believe this beauty was sitting in my collection, and getting ignored for so long. Well... I’ll tell you why! I didn’t let this fragrance evolve on my skin. As soon as I sprayed it on, I scrubbed it right off. The smell was something I could not see myself getting passed. While looking through my perfume collection at night, I stumbled across this and decided to give it another try. Yes, the opening was still terrible but after five minutes I started getting sweetness. The longer it was on my skin, the sweeter it got. Smells like strawberry and cherry licorice mixed with the black licorice. My daughter thinks this smells just like Sour Patch Kids. Please excuse the opening, it gets better! Lol.

Okay so this one has confused me. When I first got it and tested it, I thought it smelled like an almost sticky and syrupy black licorice, and it’s only been a week and it now it smells like a light powdery floral with a touch of licorice but not strong licorice. I actually really like it, it’s just different from last week. Maybe I was gaslighting muself into smelling strong licorice from other reviews, because it’s not one of those candy type licorice as the name would imply. it’s a beautiful fragrance though. Right now as it stands - 8.7/10. i’m a harsh critic so that’s good. It’s not as synthetic anf sharp as most other manceras

Back for another review. I almost sold this twice, but something kept me from doing so. I haven’t touched this in many many months and I revisited it and realized that it’s one of the better manceras to me. Delicate musky rose, licorice and mint makes this one of the most unique, easy-to-wear, and attractive unisex offerings in my collection. Smoothhhhh but very strong at the same time. I’m going to keep this for good!

Came back to this today and I’m so happy I have this in my collection. It’s so unique and unlike anything else, sweet bitter licorice in the opening and smooth florals to end off. Good performance, not overpowering and beautifully blended. 9.2/10

Licorice + musk = mysterious, dark, wintery heavy hair spray scent.

Too Sweeeet!! and I like sweet and spicy perfumes. Right now I'm panic commenting... Oof not good - that darn licorice - I really can't with licorice. Hated eating Twizzlers thought I would like them better on skin... PSYCHE!! made me nauseous 20 minutes in. Sample has to go... 5/10 Edit: Coming back to my comment. I know it seemed quite impulsive and hateful to those that like this. Licorice is a note that hates my skin. Personally it is usually too medicinal and astringent to my nose when it is the highlighted note and gets bitter and sour on my skin like the high-pitched spiciness of clove or fennel seed when you chew a grain of either of those. However, do sample and see if this works for you!

I am not big fan of licorice, but out of curiosity, I believed Mancera could do it well. Well ... I smell a peony rather than a rose here. I get a nice greenery and sharpness from that flower, purpose, probably, to smooth out the natural sweetness of licorice, but... the combination of that over-sweet syrupy candy and wet, green flower is weird. Just unbalanced and weird. But when there ad that vintage-style, powder white musk aswell...Then, I think, then the result became really cacophonic. I'm scared. I really don’t understand who this is being marketed to?

Aoud Black Candy is very good in its thing! It smells like "thick rosewater", with added "minty liquorice". None of these notes fight over another. Smells like hand lotion from the 1980s, to me. I wish this was of my taste, as this is so simple, fine, functional composition.

Licorice, mint and a little flowery. Sweet and soft but also a little pungent. I don ́t quite like it.

Started smelling like liquorice with the rose being strong and smelling like old ladies. But having it for months the oud came out strongly and it's now more of a burnt liquorice and much closer to unisex. At first it was horrible now with the burnt oud it's more ok where I could use it with other perfumes. Definitely one of the worst I've bought.

This Scent does stand apart form others in my opinion, But in a way I can not seem to get my head around. Obviously every nose and every skin chemistry is different and what can smell amazing on someone, can then smell not so good on or too others. So Aoud Black Candy - As with most Mancera Perfumes your going to be noticed, but more in a - What have you got on kind of way than you smell very nice. This Scent can be very polarising and for me very much reminds me of when you first enter a Dry Cleaners or maybe a Launderette. Maybe this is just on my skin and I would be interested to know if any others pick up on this vibe? It's not a bad Scent but it's also not up there with many other Mancera Fragrances and I personally much prefer Wild Candy over this one. The dry down is a little better than when 1st applied on but Black Candy doesn't project as well as many of my other Mancera's including Wild Candy. If possible try it before you buy it. As a rating from the other Mancera's Fragrances I own, which is currently 25 I would give this one a 6/10 Wild Candy or Black Vanilla I feel are the better constructed fragrance options here - both being smoother and more well rounded over all, and to me just smell nicer as well.

Blind bought this after reading some reviews, seeing the note composition and 'reminds me of' section. I really wanted to like this but from the first spray, I was disappointed. I get a sweet, rose/amber/musky/licorice scent with little mint. It's pleasant, but nothing special. I also don't know why they have named this Aoud Black Candy. I definitely get the candy aspect, but it is certainly missing the oud and darkness to it. Projection and longevity are pretty good, as you would expect from Mancera. The scent is marketed as unisex however I would tend to disagree. For me, the scent leans towards the feminine side. Don't get me wrong, some guys would be able to pull this off but being a solid, gym going guy with a big beard, it does not suit me well. It also smells like a fragrance an older female would wear. Not a winner for me unfortunately. Might sell this or pass it onto my partner if she wants it. Ratings Sillage: 8/10 Longevity: 8.2/10 Scent: 5/10

Since I was a kid, I loved black licorice. I was the weird kid that would trade other candy for black jelly beans. It's a flavor a lot of people don't like and it sometimes gets a strong reaction. I was curious about Aoud Black Candy and, as a licorice lover, and I am not disappointed. This starts with a very strong licorice note, and not a sweet Good 'n Plenty candy coated kind, but the chewy, soft real licorice candy my parents ate. Often times licorice candy is made with molasses and this is exactly what Black Candy smells like: Musky, sticky, slightly skunky molasses. Again, a lot of people have an adverse reaction to black licorice and smelling like it might be a turn off to some, especially in the opening which is quite strong. It does dry down softer and the mint takes this in a slightly herbal direction, which is rather nice. Overall a very unusual fragrance that might be polarizing. As a lover of licorice I give this a huge thumbs up.

Aoud Black Candy opens as a sharp yet sweet Licorice with a hint of Mint. I get the Amber as the Rose falls behind allowing the Rose to take first place; there is White musk that lingers but really doesn't take over, shows up every now and again. The verdict is still out about this one as I am still trying to wrap my mind around it. I like it and will give it a full wearing. I was a little taken back by the fingernail polish remover/varnish smell on the opening spray (don't let this disturb you), this does indeed vanish VERY quickly. Has an airy fleeting vibe that hangs in the air... As an initial dry down, you walk away with this sweet Aoud, slightly medicinal, yet dry minty Licorice aroma that's really nice!! ....Great fragrance...there is a mild powderiness that is not over powering yet noticeable. This fragrance is very unique and lovely!! I think this will be in my wardrobe for years to come!

Hmmm. I've been wearing this one 8 plus hours. It is very light in comparison to other Mancera scents. This was purchased on a blind buy and was hoping for a bit more of a sweeter black candy/licorice/anise type scent. No problem, as I'll just add some anise or licorice fragrance oil. It did have the weird celery aroma when first applied as others noted and turned a bit bawdy weird for a bit there. Really wish I could've tried a sample of this before purchase and probably won't purchase an entire bottle again. It's not a bad scent. The oud does wear off pretty early on my skin. No rose or amber detected and this one doesn't have powdery notes either. It's not a bad dry down but, no real 'feeling' about this one, good or bad. It's just kind of 'meh'. I prefer Caron's Eau de Reglisse (classic/sweeter) or Aqua Allegoria by Guerlain's 'Laurier Reglisse' (more herbal).

Opens up at first with a fresh, somewhat glazy sweet array. I think it's ambroxan that gives it the sweet glazy feel. It was very nice, charming, and easily enjoyable on my first wearing. On my second, and full wearing though, Aoud Black Candy turned musky and grannyish on me. Somewhat hazy, somewhat powdery, but all around hard to enjoy or be charmed by. I think a leather note in the base of this formula would have been the perfect compliment for this fragrance. It would have been a perfect match for the dark spicy sweet licorice-ambroxan combo. Unfortunately, Montale chose to use musk in the base here instead, and the musk of choice is just plain nauseating and makes me want to puke. Wouldn't suggest this as a safe blind buy, as it seems to have a Jekyl-Hyde effect to it that will make you regret having a whole bottle to go through.

I was inspired by Lolita Lempicka to look for more of the licorice/anise note in perfumes. I would not say that it is gourmand scent, the sweetness and spiciness is well balanced here in my opinion. It is a very nice adult gourmand scent. The licorice, rose and amber was what attracted me to Black Candy. The first spray on my skin was very fresh, green and medicinal then it calmed down a little bit. I sense oud, I think its a fantasy accord. After a period of time I sensed the rose, the rose is beautiful and creamy with warm amber. The name is not misleading, on my skin I get the oud. The sillage and longevity are both very good! Black Candy is a very nice scent.

Should have been called ROSE Candy. I have to admit Aoud Black Candy opens with a very nice, true, black licorice note. I think blending rose and licorice together is an interesting idea, and the rose is quite prominent, all the way through the drydown. The top notes are wonderful, the base notes are tolerable, but the heart of it, that rose-amber accord, is a deal-breaker. I don’t like rose, and I really don't care for amber. Replacing the amber with cocoa (not chocolate, but cocoa, as in the original Dior Homme), might have saved this fragrance, enhancing both the rose and the licorice. But as it is, thumbs down.

On/to me this opens with an extremely odd, cool, green salty burst of freshly snapped celery. From there it begins to move towards a tart black cherry candy coating, but it stays somehow thin, watery, perhaps like a low sugar cherry juice drink instead of the warm, spicy sweet licorice I expected. The far drydown (6+hrs later) is a slight warm vanilla skinscent. I was hoping for licorice vs cherry, so I'm disappointed and find this underwhelming either way. I haven't had much luck w/ Manceras so far though, so it might be my chemistry mixing badly w/ their house base.

This is a lovely, sweet perfume but not sickly so as I find some others on the market.It should however be called Black Candy and drop the "Oud" as it isn't in there in the notes and certainly not to my nose. I do however get the most lovely, strong liquorice for a good half an hour then I get the toffee notes, mint and amber mixed with woodsy aromas. It's very unique and interesting and I really, really like it! It's a grown up, sweet gourmand with fantastic silage and longevity and is obviously very well made. I think I need to explore this house in more depth.

😈 “¿Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?” 😈 one of my favorite horror movies phrases ever. Imagine that movie character smelling like this in his amazing black leather boots. Evil but mesmerizing. An alluring thick oud-y cloud tempting you, almost like sweet tar. I love licorice in my scents, it makes them dark and gummy and that has always been my thing. The sillage is deep and haunting. More masculine and unisex in my opinion. Gives Byredo Midnight Candy vibes but this is much nicer, darker, sweeter and lasts even longer.

Ok, BIG CELERY at first. Celery n licorice sort of faintly behind it. There is no minty top note. But the celery fades n it becomes fresher in a Montale Roses Musk way n then it dries down fruity, then into white musk.. I really like this, even the celery bit at first. I actually like celery, although it can mean a scent has just gone off, but here it's very pure n fresh somehow n from the other reviews I'm going to presume it's supposed to be like this. Sadly husband absolutely loathed it to the point he found it upsetting.

Can anyone familiar with Mancera's "Aoud" frags answer a question for me? I see this one, I also noticed it with the Aoud Orchid one also, maybe there are still others...oud is not listed as a note in this fragrance nor in the other one I mentioned. I detest oud and it would stop me from even sampling some of these Aoud line fragrances but is there even any oud in these? I'm so confused. This one and the Aoud Orchid one sound up my alley but if there's any oud in these (even though it's not listed), then absolutely not!!

Whoa. Aoud Black Candy is convoluted. Initially, it is funky, like under-boob sweat that has dried and was haphazardly concealed with a very vintage perfume. As it develops, the amber emerges and attempts to make something nice out of the mess of notes. Alas, it's still deep, dark, and gritty. It almost reminds me of an old perfume that has turned. It's just not a favorite but just like Molinard's Cuir I'll keep it because it's so perplexing. I'm hoping it will perform a bit differently on clothing and in cooler weather.

I get mainly licorice and rose-oud. Im a little torn on this one. The licorice scent is beautiful, sweet but full bodied like opening a package of black vines! But it is only that way for a few breaths before the licorice and oud morph into something a little harsh and a little sweet with a bit of a floral edge and generally difficult to identify. It also fades into a light background scent, although I did notice a little oud on my sweatshirt the next day.
