Black Line

First of all this is EDP. So, the "long lasting" was expected. I have to admit, that for those guys, who pay much attention for the longevity, this one is the Champion, for sure; you can smell it within 12 hours without quality decreasing - the same smell as at the beginning. What it was surprising - I spayed on my wrist, it's clear I washed my hands, but I could feel amber and pachouli, spicy notes may be - almost 24 hours after first spray, of course it was not the same how it should smell, nonetheless... This EDP is masculine for sure, however they say Unisex. I do not want to describe the notes, they all "sound" good, playing Solo time to time. Great orchestra! You won't be disappointed and, the most probably, will fall in love with this masterpiece. Don't be afraid - this is not heavy frag, it's not overwhelming, not over-spicy, not over-patchouly, not over-amber. Black Line is very elegant scent, perfectly blended, suitable for the day (office) and for the night (theatre), definitely for cool weather/time. If you wear with casual it would be also great, brutal, sexy. It reminds me Aoud Shafran from Montale (it was one company in the past before divorce), but more soft, greater number of notes, more stable and long lasting. Projection is great, exactly how it should be with man's frag. In short - beautiful masculine EDP. The bottle is perfectly crafted, if it's important for someone... I think, it can be Signature frag. It's really Niche perfume.

I usually hate most rose fragrances, but I really like this scent. I don't notice a huge difference between the initial smell and the drydown, unlike a lot of other people. I enjoy it equally at the start and an hour or more later. I like this much more than Amouage Lyric Man or some of the rose-heavy Maison Francis Kurkdjian oud perfumes. Those may be more complex, subtle scents, but I don't care - this smells way better to me. The rose in this is not a heavy, suffocating rose like in so many other rose forward scents. You can smell this yet still breathe properly. I'm talking about aesthetics, not allergies. And I don't feel that it is a predominantly feminine scent. Most other rose scents that are labelled either unisex or for men end up being too feminine for my nose (eg Amouage Lyric Man). This one is just fine for men, I feel.

A dry austere rose blooming on the edge of a baking hot desert. Crunchy notes like grains of sand (leather, spices, guaiac wood) contrast with sweet rose, sandalwood and Amber. The overall effect is dry, not sweet or jammy. It makes me think of a super-heated wind blowing off the desert and encountering floral gardens full of roses. This is suitable for both genders, especially lovers of rose and woods. The person who compared this to Black Aoud needs to smell more perfumes before making arbitrary comparison. Just because these two both contain rose doesn't mean they have any relationship with each other (apart from the fact that Montale and Mancera are sister-brands within the same umbrella company). Comparing this fragrance to Black Aoud is like saying a Bugatti is like a Ferrari, simply because they both have a steering wheel.

I really love the musky, rose and leather happening here. Love it. I 100% agree with @JusttheFactsMan, This definitely reminds me of Gold Intensitive Aoud, but without being grandmotherly. It can also be car pool and office safe if you don’t go crazy on the trigger. The projection is good for an hour or so, then it settles in. Unfortunately, I only get about 4 hours from this on my skin, but it’s 4 hours of absolute enjoyment. The leather gives this a masculine edge, which is great because I love rose notes and it keeps this as a masculine fragrance. I do not think this is blind buy safe, but, I think you owe it to yourself to at least sample this if you enjoy a strong leather note.

Black line by Mancera is fantastic! I will admit though it takes a person that's going to give it a chance for it you to fall in love with it. The opening is not killer for me, a bit sharp. I still really do like it though. The beauty comes in the mid/dry down. It starts with a rose/patchouli combo with oud in the background. Not a very feminine rose, but an airy rose that just floats beautifully around you as you wear it. I will say my FAVORITE part is the drydown. It's such a development from the opening which makes me appreciate the complexity even more. Love this stuff! Longevity is all day/all night, you don't have to worry about it going away. It will last and it will project

Nose Note #956 What a rose beauty! I wonder why it has a low rating of 3.88. This indeed is like a twin of Gold Intensive Aoud, but with a little less honeyness. Similarly beautiful and even more naturalistic slightly sweet patchouli rose combo. I've had Ambre Pimente and although you could say there are similarities, Ambre Pimente definitely was not about the rose note. This I just love. If I had to choose between Gold Intensive Aoud and this I guess I'd choose this because it's cheaper plus has more volume of 120ml and it's ultimately very similar. Unisex. Confidently strong. Good sillage. Everything about it is just good! 8.3/10, easy pick if you like rose+patchouli fragrances

First impression: It has a very harsh opening, and in heart notes I can't detect any fragrance on my hand. It was very close to my skin and I was pretty disappointed with this then in base notes it starts blooms and I would say it's very beautiful in base notes very creamy sandalwood and musky Base notes. The best base notes in my collection is of myrrhe imperial(one of my favourites) and then this one has best dry down I smell. Very elegant and luxurious. Longevity is good I can smell it projects close to my body for around 4-5 hours and after that it becomes skins scent. The projection is not very beastly it remains in you body circle which I believe is good thing

Starts like Black Aoud, dries down to Black Musk. Black Line is an oriental rose scent that has the DNA of Montale/Mancera. Rose, very Arabic, supported by a musky woody accord, a touch of patchouli, & mild ambery sweetness. It is slightly dark & serious, hence the "black" in all 3. It, weirdly, has this aquatic touch to it that makes the rose noticeably prettier. Rosy, Arabic, musky, soft, yet serious. Being a fan of the 2 aforementioned inspirations of Black Line, it's only natural that I like it. Cool-weather unisex scent but the light sweetness seats it a bit towards the feminine side. Big "Like".

A beautiful boozy, almost grape-y rose-patchouli fragrance that does not go into POAL territory. It has an ambery, resinous quality about it in the mid that supports the rose and makes it clearly rose-forward but a bit muted and not too floral. There is some subtle spice at the start too. The woods keep it balanced and perfectly unisex. It has good longevity and projection -- I catch whiffs of it throughout the day. I find it unique, perfect for cooler weather. Underrated in my opinion. Try it!

This is beautiful...What I imagine an opulent palace on the outskirts of Istanbul would smell like. The opening is a little pungent and medicinal, but I still kind of like it. Once that fades, it is a woodsy rose with some patchouli and leather thrown in. It's really well blended and smooth. It lasts a really long time and you will feel enveloped by this scent after just two sprays. Words like 'sophisticated' and 'luxurious' come to mind when I think of Black Line. Love this stuff.

Out of mancera perfumes that I tried - including vanille aoud, choco velvet, cedrat boise, red tobacco this one I like the most. To me it smells just so seductive and pleasant, playful and classy at the same time. I am not sure what you are used to but the longevity is great on this one. Been 10 hours, still smell it on my wrist, although by now its a skin scent.

Not bad. I do not like the opening too loud... but after a couple of minutes it calms when the amber and the rose begin to look. Beautiful and sophisticated in the drydown, with the white moss very prominent. It's familiar this scent, I think I try it again in the winter. Sillage: 8.5/10 Longevity: 9/10 Scent: 8./10 Overall: 8./10

Rich scent, starts a medicinal syrup, then evolves into a sensual performance with pacthouli knocking on the door and receiving roses with open arms, and then the leather bravely becomes the main host, taking that dark moment of perfume. I value this: Smell: 9/10 Projection: 9/10 Longevity: 9.5/10

To me, it smells like a lighter Oud Satin Mood from MFK. I love that and i love this. The oud isn't overpowering. I have to do some more testing. So far it doesn't fill a room but leaves a trail. #supersmooth

An underrated relese from the Brand. It's not as dark as I expected it to be. It has a clean, delicate, dry and fresh Rose heart, supported by Amber, Leather, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Spices and White Musk. The Rose accord might be based on the Taif Rose scent, known to have a bit of Citrus and Tea nuances. That's probably why some reviewers find the Rose note to be aquatic and green. It can also be due to the combination of Rose, Patchouli and Spices. It's compared to Black Aoud by Montale, but Black Line is much more controlled and wearable. After the initial blast of Spices, this EDP has moderate to strong projection for the first two hours, and after that it's a personal bubble fragance. Perhaps not strong enough for Winter, bit definetely a Spring/Fall scent that can also be worn on cool Summer nights, and under climate controlled environments, if you're careful with the number of srpays. It has 7 to 8 hours of longevity, and it's totally unisex. It may not be the most original fragrance, and it's farily linear, but it's well constructed. Test it if you like Oriental Rose perfumes. Edit: I've been able to compare this EDP with Black Aoud, and they are not that similar. Black Aoud contains Mandarine Orange, Labdanum and Oud (absent in this one), plus a more dense and powdery Rose note.

Before I go any further, I would just like to state that I am by no means a fan of rose in General, with a few odd exceptions and this is definitly one of them! Upon first spray you are indeed hit with a big blast of sweet rose. My least favourite part and I do wish it was toned down a bit, but this quickly dissipates and the leather and patchouli begin to overshadow it fairly quickly. Animalic? Maybe a slight touch but certainly nothing aggressive or over the top. In the dry down the amber, white musk and sandalwood oddly enough give this an almost fresh appeal. I would say this is similar to Indonesian Oud but without the bergamot and strong oud note. One of the best I've tried from Mancera, a fairly forgettable house IMHO.

This is "Gold Intensitive Aoud Light", a softer and lighter version but much more woody. I love Mancera Gold Intensitive Aoud.Yet this one is kinda more woody and has a bit sharp woody note. It is elegant and well put together, not a major screamer but present heavily. So you decide whether you want the strong version or the soft version depends on your preference, I muchhhhh prefer the Gold Intensitive Aoud. Performance is great.

I think I may be starting to prefer this to Black Aoud. The patchouli-guaiac-rose is really smooth, sexy, and masculine. The fragrance achieves balance much quicker than Black Aoud, which seems to see-saw between the equally loud rose-aoud notes. I would not be surprised if this was intended as a superior successor to Black Aoud. I really think a case could be made for it.

Honestly I know people give this a mad crazy good detailed review. But every single time I try this, if smells exactly like my dentist office. And that's all I can smell. I don't have a clue why, but it smells like straight up dentist. Maybe it's just my dentist and that's why I can't associate it with anything else

In the beginning all I could smell was the Guaiac-Note, and only after a few hours the rose takes the dominant spot and lasts for days! It's a very pure and soft rose - great job!

Leather, rose and patchouli. A mixture overwhelming. Pungent and sensual, delicate and charming. One of the best creations of Mancera.

#930 in my "Tour de Fragrance" So, if you already own Mancera "Gold Intensitive Aoud" I think this adds nothing to your collection but a much rosier version of that minus the citrus note. Not enough of a difference to motivate me to buy a full bottle, especially as this is a bit more rose than I appreciate. It walks right up to, but not quite past the "grandma juice" line for me, though an hour into the dry down it's mostly woody. I think this is a masculine scent for men that prefer Middle Eastern fragrances with Damascus and Turkish rose notes. I do know some women that would wear this. But I don't think this scent is certain to be a hit with everyone, so I would not blind buy a bottle of this. I'd get a decant first so you can try it on your own skin and see how you feel about it. This scent is a beast at first, with EDP longevity on the skin (lasts till lunch) and strong sillage for the first couple of hours, but after that it's not that interesting. Clearly some folks on here got bad bottles with no perfume oils at all, an experience I've had with Mancera twice now, though to be fair I've bought a lot of Mancera bottles that were just fine, and the replacements I got when I returned them were fine. Manufacturing glitches happen to every production line as I know first hand. If you applied this sparingly at 6AM and your ride shows up at 8, you could wear this in the carpool, but it's a fall/winter scent, so if you overdo it and you have to roll the windows down your carpool mates won't be happy. Definitely go light for the sake of the folks riding the packed elevator with you to the 42nd floor, or if you wear it in otherwise tight spaces where your compatriots can't get some distance. It could get offensive in the first hour after application. But I suspect you'll reapply at lunch. If you're meeting someone for lunch or dinner with outdoor seating, go ahead an apply normally. In the open air it won't be too much for anyone.

This house is either love or hate for me...nothing in the middle. Unfortunately, this one is a strong dislike. Goes on way to harsh...too pungent. Some say that about red tobacco...but I love the opening of that one. Not sure if it’s the “Spicey notes” that are listed or the combo of rose/patch is it. Either way, I do not want to live with it for any amount of time to get to the better dry down. Longevity and projection are above average...as one would expect from Mancera. Sample before purchase. Similar to Red Tobacco, this could go either way for the majority.

Typical Arab-style perfume. It begins with a riot of unidentified spices that give it a "medicinal" smell. At the beginning, the rose is well hidden and, slowly after an hour, it makes itself felt together with the woods and tenacious spices. The rose is neither sweet and sugary nor fresh and airy but it feels a little too smoky. I admit it is a well made perfume for those who like the genre. Great showing and lasts several hours but it's not "my" squad. Step

Definitively a softer version of Gold Intensive Aoud, which I had and enjoyed initially till the rose/oud took on a rotten-orange kind of vibe. This one opens with the same notes, the rose is very much present and loud. After maybe 30-60 minutes, it settles and becomes a unisex fragrance. The dry-down is nice and distinctive, although leans feminine. Definitively sample before buying.

at first spray it's rose, leather and medicinal oud. it smells similar to montale ouds i've tried. the rose in this is quite green-you get the stems too and it gets greener over time on my skin. then the white musk amps up a lot and sort of takes over on me. it's ok but there are other rose/ouds i prefer a lot more personally.

I mean, I don't hate it. But what is that weird, plastic-y, synthetic note? It smells like play doh or something. I'm trying to smell around that and I'm not loving it. I have 4 Mancera testers ATM and all 4 of them seem to have this strange synthetic note on my skin. Looks like this house is not for me.

absolutely sample first. wet it starts strong, dry, almost sharp and resinous spice, wood, red wine. somewhat feels as if ive applied perfume over a paticularly musty but not musky body odor. sharp and dusty, gas station incense sticks and too-sweet red wine. theres something that doesnt smell like rose but i can tell its something the rose is doing to the other notes, it brings it to just a very biological and unwashed place. sillage halves in first ten minutes. smell remains dusty, there is a basement quality. there is an abandoned barn quality. very dry very dusty, sickly uncanny sweetness, scent of like. wild animal pelt? its musky but not like musk and spicy but not like spices. you ever smelled somebody who didnt shower and it smells kinda like pencil shavings? that. theres just something very wrong about this. dries closer and closer to the amber note but its not a nice amber its been perverted by that unwashed smell and carries it. it smells like ive been out of soap in the desert and have been spraying avon over it and i have a boones farm hangover

This might be good for someone who enjoys heavy rose fragrances and leather notes. Unfortunately, neither work well for me. So far, this is one of the few fragrances I've sampled that I instantly disliked. On my skin, there was a sharp plastic-y scent. It does start to soften after a while but I ended up washing it off after an hour.

Similar to Oud Satin Mood, without oud. Somehow, leaves you wanting for more. I guess that’s the missing oud.

this review is about black to black.. didnt find it on fragrantica data base.. and i wanted to rview it.. for its one of the best mancers has to offer when it comes to oud connotation's its a lovelly oud.. a true oud.. an oud that reminds me of real pure oud.. that cost 1000 $ per 12 ml tolas..real indian oud ..rarelly found from local producers .. this perfume is deep ..inscensy.. oriental.. indian.. it has an opulencey.. it has a magical side.. that keeps developing and changing with time.. and on different people.. its a full mysterious perfume.. fit for a king or a queen.. it reminds me of some of the special blends from abdulsaamd algourashy and junaid and ajmal.. its more arabian in essense and personality.. yet with a lighter crispier more attuned to the non oud users.. its a perfect softer oud.. that is inoffensive..compared to the real oud..its almost sweet.. its woods y.. amber y.. a bit musky..alot inscensy almost resinous.. with a hint of rose.. that brighten every.. oud composition ..hints of patchulie and warm spicesness ..balsamic relaxing intoxicating.. ..invigorating..a winter.. night ..perfume.. fit for special occasions.. or just to fall asleep in ..a vail of holly smokiness ..of incensy ..dreamy.. whiffs of bliss...its almost lemony in the top notes.. its almost translucent.. its simply something to be treasured.. it is(oud ) an acquired smell.. oud is not the easiest of smells to fall in love with.. if you ve never smelled it befor..but this is as nice.. and as clean ..and as pefect.. as oud can get ..and as sophisticated.. and refined.. and simply wondrous.. an oud has ever been made.. for mass production ..it has the vibe of old school local perfumers who just blend natural raw materials.. and give you 6 ml half a tola ..or 12 ml of a whole tola.. or even quarter a tola of this heavenly bliss.. elixir of life ..less than a drop from the needle like debar will last weeks on your clothes and hair ..even if you wash it..a perfect layering perfume ..a perfect perfume used with bakhour and incense..a dream perfume from the past that bridged the future..

Mancera Black Line Review - Black Line is one of those scents which doesn't suprise you. Mainly because of the notes that it has are fairly common and all in all it's not a mind-blowing scent by any means. But what it is, it's a scent that is amazingly well blended and smooth. It has the most pleasant rose I've ever smelled. Smoother than the polished and powdery rose of 'Oud Ispahan' and more airy than the Bulgarian and Turkish rose mastered by Dominique Roupion in 'Promise'. TOP NOTES - Black Line starts with a beautiful rose note but soon it fades away being overpowered by Sandalwood. Creamy Airy rose,is what you get in the beginning 4-5 minutes. Heart Notes - Mid is spicer. Has some incensy touch to the spice and rose at which the scent starts to feel very mysterious but still rosy and common to an extent. The depth at this point is brought out by the musk used. And the sweetness can be perceived both as rose or amber. Base - As the scent progresses it gets more and more powdery. With leather and rose combination,you get a dusty rose that feels like it has been kept in a precious leather bag! Usage - It's a mature scent. If you're a woman/man over 30 you can easily rock it. It will get you good compliments. It's not overly unique but it still has some fauctes which at least do not make it feel common too. Summary - All in all this is the most beautiful Mancera blend that I've smelled so far. More smoother than Black Gold. Performance - Performance is a tad bit on the weaker side when you compare it with other Mancera's. Longevity - 6-7 Hours on Skin Projection - Moderate for one to two hours. To give you some perspective,the level of blending is akin to that of Fredric Malle. The notes are beautiful intertwined and come at you nicely unlike other Mancera's where one note heads in one direction and one note heads in another direction. It's total niche stuff. And definitely worth consideration if you're into rose based fragrances.

Mancera Black Line is a typical Pierre Montale creation, the signature rose in his perfumes is very apparent here aswell. As others noted before me, i also find it similar to Montale Black Aoud in its use of rose. It is basicly Black Aoud made softer, less spiky, a bit sweeter especially in the opening and that is achieved with the amber. Feels like Black Line is the "Pour femme" version of Black Aoud. I cannot detect the leather sadly. To my nose, Guaiac wood gives a balsamic and almost shampoo like touch to fragrances in general and Montale's signature rose is quiet laundry detergenty in of itself. This combo pushed it overboard with the soapyness and that is the deal breaker for me personally. It reminds me of a rose scented shampoo way too much. An often mentioned critique about Montale / Mancera is that they are harsh and synthetic and this does come across a bit so but it smoothes out as it dries down. Name-wise, if Black Aoud could somewhat justify the word "black", this one has nothing black in it.

Nice scent thats about it, pretty straight forward that works. What i get is a medicinal opening (as most with all montales and manceras frags) this stays for awhile then it settles down. I dont know about the spicy notes on top as i dont get this at all ?? Leather is what i get with medicinal backround. When frag settles down i do sense the middle notes everything is there, but its not over powering each other; they are all blended well together. Base is woody with a hint of musc. Over all a good scent and very safe if you can get pass the opening which i do. I dont find this unisex it leans towards more on the masculine side as its dark scent. scent break down; medicinal leather; leathery rosey; woody musky. It is worth a try. Performance is solid by the way mod to heavy projection with atleast 8hrs of staying power.

This was super nice at first - a real soft fluffy rose, very smooth and with some musk and vanilla, a tad oriental, not too intense. For the most part it's really nice very satin mood I agree, but. The drydown is somehow synthetic and overwhelming, I found myself thinking I would get sick of this scent after a few hours. So definitely try first, may just be my skin. I also get that most of these manceras are fairly oily on skin so be wary of that. this is nothing at all,the smell is very cheap i want to know when this type of brands will stop cheating people by the names of their perfumes (black line,musk ,rose,oud etc....),to whom it may concern,this is nothing even the price is high for what i don't know,you can smell the same of this perfume in any branch of arabian oud ,they have alot of such these perfumes and it's very old. 0/10

i don't get the love for this. Perhaps my nose is not sophisticated enough. To me it smells like a mid 40's Avon Lady whose at your house pitching products to your mom. I don't see how a man can wear this, and I wear some very unisex stuff. I guess i just don't get it. I LOVE Cedrat Bose, and Sand Aoud. I had high hopes for this, but never have i been so shockingly disappointed.

One of the rare occasions with Mancera where the scent profile is pretty uniform in that its leather and rose right off the bat. As with all Mancera fragrances this smells really really good and lasts a long time with great projection and sillage, this is a very safe blind buying from the house of Mancera, get this in your rotation you'll love it!

Just sampled this, along with Aoud Violet and Cedrat Boise (I didn’t like either). This reminded me a little of Portrait of a Lady at the opening but now in the heart/dry down I’m getting just loads and loads of leather and not a lot else. It’s also become a skin scent after less than an hour. I had high hopes for this. Disappointing.

Went to Selfridges to try this today. I originally went in to buy Ateliers - Oud Saphir but ended up trying Black Line while waiting for my Saphir to be customised. I have to say that it is up there in terms of the quality I look for. I will be adding this to my private collection very soon. 8.5/10

Great creation. A soft patchouli-Rose combo with a slight soapy touch that make it very easy to wear. If you like the Patchouli-Rose combo but you find that most of them are a little heavies and more associated to cold weather, this is a great and versatile choice. Great performance indeed.

Essentially, this isn't a scent for a younger person. It's literally just a dozen leather roses. Not bad, but nothing exciting. If you like leather and roses, this may be the perfect scent. It's just very rose leather and bland
