Black Vanilla

I have a generous decant of this, and I think I still need more. Unexpectedly good. Pretty, and yummy, and just fun to wear. It's almost too sweet but just treads the line, and projection and longevity are insane - I put it on yesterday evening and could smell it late into this morning. As it fades, it becomes lovelier - I just spend this morning going 'damn, I actually smell amazing'. I don't get as much vanilla as I expected, but there's something that reminds me of vanilla ice-cream a hell of a lot; there's a big hit of rose, but it's very delicate rose-petals that have been sugared, a hint of jasmine, bits of sweet-powdery purple violet, and touches of fruit, and that's all layered over this idea of cold good-quality vanilla ice-cream, so it's almost like a slightly unusual, very posh ice-cream sundae. I really, really like this. Sometimes it veers a little too sweet and strong even for me, but a lot of the time, with a very light hand, it's just so pretty and it lasts forever. I will say, this needs a light hand - I'm used to close-to-the-skin scents and I made the mistake when I first got this of spraying this directly near my collar-bone when I first got it... don't do that, unless you want to feel like you've just been fumigated. It's probably not the most potent stuff on the market, but you can't say this still is weak. If this is rated 'not overwhelming' I don't want to know what 'strong' is... this stuff sticks like glue to me and wafts magnificently and smells good for a long time, but I'm only putting little bits on my extremities from now on, for my sinuses' sake. All in all, very pretty, delicious, and just lovely to wear. I also appreciate that I can put it on in the evening and wake up thinking 'omg, what smells amazing?' What I don't appreciate is the damage it could do to my bank account when my decant runs out.

Question- should a perfume called Black Vanilla have "White Peach, Coconut and Violet" in it? I was expecting a moody, black leather jacket vanilla and this is more of a hopeful, party dress vanilla...flirty, twirly and fun. I don't find this to be a gender neutral scent per se, but I'm sure there are guys out there with the confidence to pull this off --good smells good on everyone..and this smells very good. This is a rather light, sweet, "floranilla" perfume with a pretty, powdery drydown. The vanilla with the florals is quite nice, not overpowering, but it does have some staying power, as most Mancera frags do. I don't always care for musk, but it's good here and adds something mature to the perfume, to avoid smelling too fluffy & candy like. The longer this dries down, the nicer it gets. Smells beautiful on skin & clothes. It's a lovely concoction...just don't expect anything deep & dark. This perfume is blue skies, with puffy clouds, not thunderheads and impending storms. It may not be what I expected, but I'm not mad about it either. I wouldn't mind smelling this on anybody.

The opening is strong, lots of blackcurrant, yes femme, peachy and powdery, but the real unseen magic in this one is the drydown. Lasts forever and it's delectable, like cake or pastry. I sense it's the coconut mingled with vanilla. Also it's very unique--people will ask what smells so good and no one will know what you're wearing because it smells like nothing else! I have Molinard Vanille Fruitee so I sort of knew what I was going into here, but I wanted to try this because of the coconut note. Also, Vanille Fruitee is different because of grape, plus it's a bit lactonic (the orchid and ylang?) and incensy (osmanthus) despite having no listed milk or incense notes. I can smell the violet, coconut and white peach here going down to the base. The iris is not too powdery on me, and it's not an overly ripe peach but rather a kind of sweet yet tart peach note. I'm not a fan of peach but it's nice here. Overall I am very satisfied with this perfume and have kind of become addicted to the dessert-like drydown. A thumbs up!

I love Mancera perfumes and have good performance with them in the heat. I blind bought Black Vanilla after seeing a you tube review on it. This perfume is awesome! Projects at least 6 feet with a beautiful scent trail and lasts 6-8 hours depending on temperature and if I’m indoors in air conditioning. This perfume is beast mode but never cloying or sickeningly sweet. In cold weather it seems sweeter and different on me. Opening is peaches with hint of black currant then it dries down to powdery rose and violets. Base note of vanilla with tiny hint of musk but peaches still noticeable. I bought this in winter so I only know how this performs in 70 degree days 50 degree nights. I worry when Arizona desert hits 125 degrees or higher this will be too much. This is not another boring linear vanilla fragrance it has stages and is unique. I suggest testing it but this is a safe blind buy. I love smelling like peaches, powdery floral and vanilla!

I definitely picked up on the “baby wipes” scent at first sniff but I didn’t feel negatively about it, as I found on me it quickly developed into something more complex and decadent. It smells like the color thulian to me; I absolutely love this scent. It’s very sweet and I could see it mainly appealing to feminine folks but maybe some masculine ppl could make it work if worn with confidence. The notes and accord profile listed on here are pretty true to this scent, though it is extremely well blended so the notes are not easily distinguishable. Dense, but smooth— and very addictive and auric almost. Heavier lasting power and sillage from this fragrance are a plus for me from this house since my skin tends to not hold fragrance well despite moisturizing religiously and spraying sort of generously. Excited to try others from Mancera and Montale. Could definitely make for a good signature scent. This is a special one.

My first tester off of scent box and I really like her so far!! I've been wanting to try a floral vanilla but I was enticed by the coconut and violet since I love a coconut but I don't do tropical scents. I don't get sugar cookie or baked good at all from it- I think the powders and the florals really elevate and compliment the vanilla in a way that doesn't overpower it but still draw a clear distinction between vanilla and edible. I don't really get why it's called Black Vanilla as I'm not getting any dark heavy scents, Violet Vanilla would have been a better name that highlights the actual notes within the perfume. I didn't find the sillage to be incredible but the longevity is definitely there. The scent isn't ideal for high heat/humidity (I think that's why my sillage was lacking), but I'd wear it to hang out with my situationship anyways.

Edit: this is like soft baby version of amariage. If amariage is rich mature woman, black vanilla is her niece or her daughter. Pink pilates princess. Fresh slick back bun. Fresh beige gel manicure. Hot matcha latte. Rainy spring afternoon. This is a pretty perfume. Feminine leaning fragrance. I advice you to use this in cool temperature or colder season, it will balance the cold with spring vanilla vibe. Projection and longevity are moderate. Fair price point compared to complexity and performance. Usually I despise mancera but this one is exceptional and full bottle worthy. It is not too powdery, not too synthetic, not too rancid from coconut. Balance one like a true pilates princess baddie

The first spray I did, I absolutely loved the vanilla! Gave it a few more seconds and got a lot more fruit, then the violet which is what I assume gives it this powdery feel to it, then it settled into this lovely everyday scent that balanced the notes pretty well. This is not a vanilla-only scent. As a woman, this was amazing on me however if you're a man, you might not want to blind buy this. By all means do sample it, but I think it won't suit many. I have no complains with performance at all and it's a lovely perfume. Just bear in mind it's got some sweetness to it as well so if you're not a fan of that, I wouldn't be looking here.

Simply this opens up feminine and drys down unisex. As a man I enjoy wearing this fragrance and for all the people saying it's too feminine there a host of male targeted fragrances that are more feminine than this (Ultra Male). This smells like vanilla extract with florals. If you don't like floral scents stay away from this one. There is nothing dark about this and the name Black Vanilla is probably only because Vanilla Extract (duh). This stuff has great projection and longevity. This pushes 2-5ft in the first few hours and I could smell this on me 24hrs later. This is bottle worthy but definitely try first.

I just got out of surgery, and sprayed this....I love it! I know I’m still woosy from the anesthesia (will give an update when I’m recovered), but this is beautiful, and I don’t have anything like this, and I have ALOT of Vanillas. It’s very unique since it’s a floral Vanilla. I feel like I get the Violet. Like I said, I’ll do the wear test and everything, and update. It’s been projecting though. Love at first sniff, let’s leave it at that for now. Edit: ok, everything I said still stands. It’s very different, and has great longevity 8+hrs. Guaranteed no one will smell like you 😉

Smelled this on a trip and fell in love with it. I’m so glad im seeing other dudes in the comments saying how it would be insanely hard to pull off as a guy. Cause I felt like I managed to pulled it off. I sprayed this on in the middle of a Malta heat warning and 2 stranger girls that were friends in the middle of paceville mall in a shy way told me I smelled nice. It does lean feminine but if you’re confident enough as a guy to rock this, do it!! I know there’s a couple guys out that would love this. It’s a banger fragrance. Can’t wait to get a full bottle soon.

The bottle is simple yet heavy on this one and it comes in a nifty little gold bag. The projection is upper moderate. Mancera Black Vanilla is aptly named as it is a heavy vanilla with a slight spice underneath. I like the simplicity of it and the pure quality. This one can float all on its own or I will be adding a lemon scent to it to be playful with layering. I like heavy scents with pure impact as that doesn't bother me a bit as I can carry it off, but this is not for the gun shy. Do you like dark vanilla? Then you must have it. Yes, I would buy this again.

The first time i smelled this i was looking for a vanilla heavy fragrance and stumbled upon this one. Applied 1 spray on my wrist and i could smell it for 2 days. My jacket had the scent for 3 weeks and i just knew i had to buy it. Definetly my most worn fragrance. Always thought is was a unisex or more male leaning fragrance so. I LOVE my Black vanilla and its just amazing. Will be keeping in my rotation until its empty, because then u will buy another one.

I love this perfume. Everyone says it strong and floral but I can’t smell it for long. I love fact -even on the end of the day I get compliments. Especially from males 🤭 If I spray and go in a shop I can hear whispers-“someone smells nice” and I’m just smile... It’s soft,gentle pure women scent. Honestly I stopped looking for other perfumes as this one matches my personality, I get compliments every time and price is reasonable as well...

I'm so in love with this one... For me, it's a very floral, creamy, coconutty vanilla. It is just me, or it's really similar to Black pearls by E. Taylor? They both have peach, rose, Jasmine, vanilla, white musk... And Black pearls, with sandalwood and gardenia, has the same "coconut vibe" that I can smell in Black vanilla. Anyway, it's a delicious, very natural and comforting kind of vanilla... My next Mancera's purchase :)

Opens with a beautiful, smooth blend of fragrant peach, coconut and clean vanilla. In the mid the vanilla takes over and is warm, creamy and slightly boozy. The jasmine and rose add a luxurious floral feel, and the musk gives the scent strength. The vanilla is the star and lasts throughout the longevity of the dry down. It is dense and luscious and a real triumph. A true unisex fragrance and a real pleasure to wear.

Powdery vanilla blast - like smelling a plastic bag of marshmallows but more intense. Fruitiness fades but there’s a coconut cream element to the musky dry down. With the violet it is reminiscent a bit of Nirvana Black to me. Longevity is great and justifies pricing to me, especially because I found a discounted 4 oz bottle at TJ Maxx. Excited to pair this with a black turtleneck and enigmatic attitude this fall.

This is one of the most interesting vanilla fragrances I’ve tried. I’d definitely settle this to be an autumn/winter scent and would consider it as unisex. It does lean towards being a bit more feminine. In terms of longevity of wear - I wouldn’t say this fragrance is one to consistently wear. Having this in rotation would be perfect, after a while can become a little bit boring and ever so slightly sickening

To me this is a real gem form Mancera, this is the best vanilla form the whole vanilla range in Mancera. This is fruity powdery addicting, caramel, orchid, sugary goodness. It really reminds me of Vanille West Indie but with more fruity notes. I absolutely love it and really want a full bottle of it. A must try for sweet, cake like vanilla lovers. And I bought a full bottle! Its worth it!

What an amazing fragerance after you let it sit for an hour it just smells like vanilla and coconut one of my main fragerances smells so good on skin and lasts a while the bottle is nothing special but the projection is amazing. I get so many compliments wearing this. A bit pricey but i say worth it. smell: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10 Sillage: 9/10 Bottle: 5/10 Value for money: 6/10

Peach ring gummies, blackcurrant, and candied violets, all on a bed of fluffy musk and vanilla. There's something about this that smells so candy-like and almost edible. It is VERY girly and dainty. A name like Violet Vanilla or Vanilla Peach would have fit this way better–not at all the sultry fragrance you would think with a fragrance descriptor like "black."

I've had my bottle for over 3 years. As a man I pull this off very efficiently. Women love this when I wear it. The closer they get the more touchy they become 😎. It puts people in the best of moods when they are around me. I still love my Velvet Vanilla more tho 🤣 so it's not only for women. Fragrance is to be enjoyed by the wearer. ✌️

This is just perfection. There's tihota, and then there's this. If I had found this 3 months ago I wouldn't have had to blind buy 80 other perfumes searching for "the one" . Vanilla, powder, super soothing safe comforting dreamy snuggly scent. I will be comparing every other vanilla to this forever. 12/10 perfection.

I love love love this fragrance. Absolute favorite vanilla scent that lasts a long time, smells very strong and brings me a lot of compliments. It's not too sweet but not too aromatic either, smells like someone cut open a fresh vanilla bean. One of my most worn fragrances, will buy it again and again. 10/10 Perfume

Oh man, finally I got the 2018 full bottle!!!! This is outstanding 'gourmand' and very seductive. Longevity, no need to debate!!! This is one of the beasts from Mancera lines. When I continued to sniff this black vanilla, I got similarity with Mancera Choco vanilla.. yes, yeah, they are so similar in some ways.

Gorgeous. I was expecting a rich, creamy vanilla but this actually is more floral in nature with a slightly sweet (but not overly so) vanilla background. I can detect the violet and rose, both of which are quite natural smelling to me. Be careful with the sprays because the sillage on this is strong.

I cannot take my wrist away from my nose and I look like a crazy person. Dark fruity, nearly rummy. I wish I had more bespoke, classier tastes but leave me alone to sniff my dark jammy-vanilla arm in peace, I am so happy. A little goes a LONG way.

Vanilla, vanilla, vanilla is all i get and is what i love. Lasts and also projects on skin, I don't even have to overload with spraying. I believe it can get cloying in warm weather so for now I will enjoy this in cooler temps.

This Perfume I absolutely love it because for me it smells like a new baby doll, which for me I love because it stays on the skin as if you’re not wearing any perfume, but you’re wearing so that’s amazing

I agree with LMBelvi. I first sprayed it on and it smelled a bit like a sweet pastry in the air. And it does this in a very convincing fashion, better than the fragrances that people say give off this vibe like BR540 or even Oajan. This pastry vibe does hang around for quite a while and can be alluring/musky. Would conclude that the sillage is strong at the start, moderate-to-strong for about an hour, and moderate for up to 3 hours. Usual performance on Mancera's ranges between 6 and 12 hours, I'd say this towards the upper limit of the range since this type of profile will last as a skin scent. I don't entirely understand the hate in the comments. It might be feminine leaning, but barely so. The scent is completely different the closer you smell it from - when you just let it linger in the air, it's actually very much straight-down-the-middle unisex. The deeper you go into the drydown and the more closer you smell the fragrance from, the more feminine it is. Deep drydown is definitely a feminine-type sweet profile. After the first 10 minutes or so, that's when you get that perfect sweet mix from the peach, the black currant, and the vanilla. Slight freshness from the bergamot in the background when you take a deep whiff. Again, agreeing with Belvi, the name is misleading. This has all-year potential the same way men can wear Layton or Ani all-year, and clearly it's not a dark scent in the slightest. I'd actually consider layering this, it could make for some very unique combinations since the scent does evolve quite a bit. On its own, it's very much an attractive fragrance as well. Smelling it on a woman it would probably be an 7.5-8, on me and without layering it's probably a 6.5-7 (and it appears to work very well with my skin chemistry). For value it's okay - 120ml for €150.

This performs incredibly well. The scent trail is good, projection on my skin is 16+ hours and I still smell the next day when I wake up. For me, this one is beyond beast mode and longevity compared to the other Mancera's that have the range of 8-12 hours. The opening I admit is feminine: With peaches, coconut, white jasmine, and rose. I honestly like it, but have to be in a certain mood to feel like using it and pulling it off. Turns Unisex for about 45 mins into the fragrance. I wait until the fragrance relaxes a bit because the opening is feminine, and you have to like florals. Otherwise, don't bother with Black Vanilla. It's light, sophisticated, and powerful. Feels good for a business-type fragrance, a man who enjoys florals or assertive women in a career. That's what I imagine the feel of the fragrance. As I said, the performance for me on Black Vanilla is outrageous. Skin chemistry might have something to do with it. It's super powerful for hours, and lasts 16+ hours, and lasts on clothes for days. I would say, easy on the trigger. How I see using Bentley for Men: Fall & Winter use / Work & Business environment / Dressed casually or formally Three words to describe Black Vanilla: Light / Sophisticated / Powerful More marketed towards women, but if you can get past the opening (which I do like) wait until it calms down a bit with the opening and transition (30-45 mins) it's more unisex and any confident man can pull off Black Vanilla, but don't blind buy it. I don't love it, but I like Black Vanilla a lot. So, this is a surprising WOW! I was not expecting to like this as much as I do. There are numerous neutral, or negative reviews about this perfume here on Fragrantica and elsewhere. So, I wasn't quite sure what to expect once I sampled the fragrance. I initially discounted and dismissed my sizeable decant of "Black Vanilla." But then one day recently, after wearing the perfume for quite sometime, I came to the conclusion, "This is actually quite nice!" I decided to purchase a full bottle of Black Vanilla 120ml. I like this fragrance a lot. It's unique and different. However, as most reviewers have stated, this fragrance is more "purple floral powdery musk" on my skin, not vanilla. There is little complexity, or development and the perfume performs as one might expect. In the opening, I (fortunately) detect little citrus, or coconut, nothing aquatic or tropical. The opening is an extremely dry, dusty, floral, powdery, iris, rose and jasmine combination. Based on reviews, I expected the florals to be screechier and more invasive than they actually are on my skin. The blend of florals is actually quite pleasant. Base notes are primarily musk and vegetal-green floral notes. There is a dirty-ish, dark vanilla with a persistent floral back drop. But this perfume is definitely floral-centric. Performance seems good. Silage is minimal. I like it...

Only liked this upon first spray - I'm not a huge fan of black currant, so it wasn't an immediate love. Initially, it was a basic fruity floral, the violet and peach at the forefront with a little bit of a tropical/summery touch from the coconut. It was a lot brighter than I would have expected from a fragrance called "Black Vanilla," with prominent fruits and a crisp musk. After reading the reviews, I noticed the similarity it had to make up wipes and was a little disappointed that it was all I could smell afterwards. But I wore it a few more times to use up the sample and I'm so glad I did! In this case, the power of the fragrance wasn't really a good thing - the opening notes last ages, and the synthetic fruits really do give off the makeup remover vibe. But the drydown is an INCREDIBLE vanilla - it's a slightly smoky brown sugar vanilla, made creamy by the addition of coconut. The fruits hang about just at the edges of the scent and it is truly beautiful. I definitely highly recommend spraying this directly on your skin - it will burn off faster, but you will get to the drydown and bypass the makeup wipe stage more quickly. And when I say it will burn off "faster" I mean the fragrance will last well over eight hours, rather than stick to you for the next two days. Performance on this is amazing, definitely worth getting a full bottle.

This is a first impression of Mancera black vanilla. I tried the perfume for the first time today. I know that it is very individual how one perceives one's fragrance on one's skin, and that it can both smell slightly different, and that one can have completely different opinions quite often. But in this case, I have to completely agree with the people who say that it smells very feminine. I can also contribute to the fact that it can smell a little of the air freshener that you use for the car. At least in the opening process. When the scent has settled a little, it becomes a little more creamy, and perhaps a little less feminine. I kind of like the scent, but maybe more on a woman than on myself. In my personal case, where I think it is best is actually in the bottom notes. The last few hours, when you just get a hint of the scent now and then, it works fine for me. But it is not a fragrance I would recommend to all men, and certainly not a fragrance I would recommend blind buying. Whether you are a man or a woman, you decide 100% yourself what fragrances you want to wear, this is just my personal opinion. The most important thing is that you, yourself are happy and satisfied with what you smell, I'm just not personally like this fragrance on myself from the beginning to the end. Let me start off by saying that I wore this today to work and my superviser gave me a compliment and she never does so yah this gets compliments even my daughter said it smells really good and she doesn't say that often about my fragrances. This starts off from the initial blast as floral with white musk its light and floral. After a few minutes this sweet fruit smell which would be a juicy peach and the black currant joins in and shares the spot light equally with the mix of floral and white musk. After a little more time the deep vanilla smell comes threw and stays for the rest of the time and actually is what makes this unisex because at first its feminine but the vanilla is a deep vanilla that keeps this fragrance from staying light and girly.It does lean a little feminine but like I said the vanilla actually saves it from being too feminine and it ends up being equally sweet fruits and light floral laying on a bed of a pile of vanilla beans.This is a crowd pleaser. Its not overwhelming or overbearing and just smells really good. At first I wasn't to sure about it but it grew on me quickly I blind bought it and I am glad I have it.

I first got Black Vanilla as a gift about a year ago and to be honest: I hated it at first. It smelled extremely synthetic and cloyingly sweet on me - I even had someone tell me that I smell like Play-Doh... not exactly what a woman wants to hear about her fragrance. After keeping it on my shelf for a while I decided to revisit it and it completely changed my mind! I finally get the beautiful floral notes and a fruity, soft vanilla that lingers on the skin for a whole day. As other comments have mentioned, I also find the name "Black" Vanilla to be a bit misleading since it is quite soft. It reminds me of a bougie body lotion or candle in a good way. Would recommend for colder weather because it's intense and might be offensive to some but I can also see myself wearing it on a date night in summer. Pro-tip for Mancera/Montale fragrances: Let them macerate!!

Blind bought this, however I do not recommend doing so. For me it starts almost medicinal, suffocating and quite harsh. I don’t smell the flower bomb people are describing. This is why I prefer to spray on my body (2 sprays max!), and not neck/ wrists. For me Mancera ( and Montale) are quite straight forward- you see vanilla and oudh and you get vanilla and oudh. This perfume is no exception to the rule. It is amazing for cold weather as it has this cozy, warm, hug-like quality to it. In the beginning (6ish hours)I smell the oudh more than the vanilla, then the tables turn. After 24+ hours it still lingers on the skin and it turns into this mellow, vanilla cake, sweet, yet thick vanilla. For me this is unisex.

Beautiful and very classy, this is a good longevity/projection perfume for the price. The magnetic cap is nice, the atomizer works very well. Very feminine leaning fragrance to me. Scent starts off with the lovely powder and rose, a hint of coconut and sweet, warm vanilla. There is just a faint touch of citrus in the top for a few minutes, the drydown is powder, rose/violet and vanilla. Sillage/projection/longevity is moderate to strong, depends on how heavy you spray. The last few hours of this perfume is a lingering, alternating vanilla and powder sweetness. Cold weather scent, safe blind buy if you expect the powder to be as present as the vanilla is throughout the wear time. Purchased from: Jomashop

I got this as a free sample. First spray smelt like a very old fashioned body spray I used to wear when I was 15, quite cheapish smelling. After a few minutes I could smell it all around me, in a good way - surprisingly it turned into a beautiful and feminine fragrance. Very powdery and pleasant flowers wrapped in vanilla, I would say it is fitting for a woman that is not in a rush, a woman that is very together and confident, maybe on the more mature side. It could be the older, wiser and wealthier cousin of La Vie est Belle. Would I add it to my collection? I'm 50/50 on it. Layered it with Gris Charnel and it made it a lot more special than on its own.
