Sillage Royal 2017 Edition

I am very impressed with this house. I got the sample set and it's truly much more than what I expected the experience to be. I usually like one or two, at most, from sample sets. Certainly not enough to wear them out but it's a hobby of mine and I enjoy trying new things anyway. I looooove these. Specifically, Sillage Royal is alluring, warm inviting. Rose is there, certainly, but it's so well blended with the resins, patchouli and woods that it's not center stage (I dislike this note in myself). I can detect each and every note (the musk, less so) but they don't clash. Oud is under the radar here, in a good way. This is a sophisticated affair. Like all the others in the sample set, which I have worn out in multiple occasions already, they remind you of something classic (maybe as the inspiration) but the end result is thoroughly interesting and modern. I wear this out comfortably but I do find it slightly masculine-leaning. Also, to be completely honest, they don't last very long on my skin- but this is a problem I have with 99% of fragrances so that could be entirely my problem. Great offerings from this house.

An utterly mesmerising scent - I have a lot of perfumes from niche / boutique houses and this evokes a feeling of mystery / the desert. I have gotten strong compliments when wearing this!

Manos Gerakinis Sillage Royal is the 2017 re-release of an earlier 2014 release, a warm, woody, floral blend that features rose fairly prominently, with resins, saffron, patchouli, and woods, with a slight smoky angle but not too prominently. It feels like a really nice smoky rose/oud-type fragrance that’s done with care and nuance. I like it as an option for cool weather situations, very elegant, but familiar in the genre, also. While it does not quite make the impression that Quintessence does, Sillage Royal is still so obviously well-crafted and arguably slightly safer and less dense, so even though I do not regard Quintessence as challenging per se, Sillage Royal is nonetheless a little easier to wear, for what it’s worth, while still performing well. As rose-enriched fragrances go, I would probably lean toward Rose Poetique over Sillage Royal, but they’re quite different fragrances, overall. Sillage Royal is priced at $255 for 100ml, with a travel size of $60 for 10ml, sold at great boutiques like Perfumology, which has been the main way I’ve learned about and tried out the Manos Gerakinis catalogue. 7 out of 10

Beautiful dark and jammy rose with lots of spices and dry patchouli in the base. It’s not the scent profile that I typically like, but this one done beautifully. It’s smooth and round - great balance. Follow me on ig: scent.guide

Sillage Royal opens spicy smoky permeated by a striking bittersweet rose very sharp always present, the smoky 'oud is very easy and delicious and the patchouli enters the scene in my view in a discreet but noticeable way. And added to the musk, amber and balm that together with the best smoke note I have ever felt in perfumery, a clear and unique smoke gives a smoky balsamic animalic aspect throughout evolution. The combination of the notes of 'oud and smoke covering and igniting this wonderful rose provided one of the most successful pink/smoky/incendiary accords I have ever experienced. Without a doubt one of the best perfumes with the 'oud/rose/smoky' combo, but off the radar, a beautiful and delicious fragrance. Manos Gernakis fragrances falls mainly in the category of "luxury" perfumes that reproduce common fragrance smells , with better ingredients or execution and attractive packaging fitting to the price but nothing that challenges the nose of the wanderer with a wanton of smelling unique. Sillage Royale is very similar to Guerlain's magnificent-now discontinued- Rose Nacree du Desert, if anybody is interested.

This is one of those fragrances that I would find beautiful on someone else but I would never wear it. Just way too much for me. I certainly appreciate it, though. The primary notes I get are patchouli, rose, and oud.
