Decadence

If you want an amber-y cooked fruit jammy lighter version of this, still kinda green, but more youthful without rose Orris and heavy notes, try Tempo by Shirley May OR DUA's Caramel Floral Affair. Caramel Floral affair is close to Tempo rather than Decadence tho and more white floral compared to both. Caramel Floral Affair smells like jammy cooked fruit in syrup identical to Tempo, the jammy fruity woody amber-y scent supposed impression of MJ Decadence with the plum-iris, but it has its own more playful and floral fruity woody resinous jammy identity that Decadence is lacking - the amber-y base, without the vetiver, orris saffron heavy green notes of Decadence. So I smell these jammy fruity floral elements in Caramel Floral Affair. The issue with DUA's creation is that from the caramel note, the spicy black currant, and perhaps the watery rosey peony there is a smoky burnt plastic smell in it, right from the opening. I also smell a Cloud amber-y soft fruity undertone, perhaps from the common pear note with Cloud, and the amber-y base from the praline there and the caramel-amber here. The vein of Dua's scent though is the jammy cooked fruit scent of Tempo with the floral indolic aspect and the syrupy amber base, while its peppery black currant note with the dirty amber are reminiscent of the spicy plum-amber in Tempo and they both have jasmine. Decadence is smoother even tho much heavier and heady because it lacks amber so it's not smoky despite the spicy plum-saffron. Tempo has subtle amber peppery plum smokiness which isn't like burnt plastic. Caramel Floral Affair becomes slightly sour from the orange-black currant-pear since black currant is spicy and sour too as a note. As I said Tempo is not as smoky spicy from the plum-amber, and it becomes smoother fruity jammy and more woody. caramel Floral Affair is orange- infused while Tempo is greener, but equally jammy and syrupy. Dua's fragrance has magnolia and Tempo has iris so we get that indolic floral aspect, but in CFA it's more ethereal from the magnolia-peony. They have some differences, but they're very similar and both lighter than Decadence. The smoky burnt plastic element of Caramel Floral Affair becomes softer and only prominent when I smell my skin up close at the drydown. Regardless it's full bottle worthy and projects super loud. I have both the Decadence and its lighter flanker but they are like these green candy scents, much balsamic-heady and not as floral and jammy.

My favorite of all time and the first real perfume I ever had. My mom got a decadence gift set for me after I begged and begged, having gotten a sample from Sephora after buying a full coverage NARS foundation that was too orange for me. I still love it a lot, though I put it away for about 7 years and only pulled it out recently. I think it was best that I did that, as I got this scent when I was about 16 and by my read, it comes off as a mature and somewhat masculine fragrance. It’s very sexy and bold, a little sweet. I am partially anosmic but have no issues making out just about every note in this, I find it extremely nuanced though a bit hard to describe. Plum is definitely the strongest note upon spray, but it dries down a little sharper and spicier. I will say: I pulled this out during the summer awhile back and actually thought it had gone rancid or something. It is BAD in the summer. It makes me wonder if climate is influencing perception in these reviews — I live in Michigan with cold dry winters and hot wet summers, and Decadence heavily favors the former. I joined this site to hopefully find a dupe, so far I think Billie Eilish is the most similar, with a strong vanilla note added on. I got a 2ml tester with a different fragrance I bought. After a good amount of use, I would say it's in the same family as Decadence, though not close enough to be called a dupe. They do layer well together, though. Someone online suggested Sweet Tooth was a good replacement for Decadence. I don't think that's true at all. They don't even share DNA -- If Eilish is a sister, Sweet Tooth might her ex. I also purchased Divain 180, which claims to be a clone. I’m letting mine macerate right now, but right out of the box, 180 is too sharp, alcoholic and underdeveloped to really remind me of Decadence. Update: after macerating for about two weeks, this scent now smells almost exactly like Decadence but only BEFORE I spray it -- so basically what's left in the cap. The spray is still completely different -- astringent and pungent. I suspect that what's been left behind inside the cap is macerating way faster than what's inside the bottle, so it's likely that after a few months the entire bottle will smell like Decadence.

It’s not just sweet and floral, it’s smokey, leathery, and almost too sexy for its own good. Enough to have people turning their heads as you walk by, trying to figure out what just hit them. And let’s not forget the tragedy of Marc Jacobs Decadence’s discontinuation. This fragrance should never have been taken off the market, its rich, intoxicating allure was too good to go unnoticed. Now, it’s just a rare treasure, something to be hunted down and clung to like a secret we weren’t supposed to keep. Decadence was a masterpiece, and we’ve all lost out.

"Jesus F- Christ" was my initial reaction to "Decadence". In the most positive way possible. I was determined to find an original bottle of this. I watched a few YouTube videos comparing the original with a fake before taking the risk. I even had a couple nightmares that I had accidentally bought the "Eau so decadent" flanker 🤣. I really wanted this for several reasons: 1. I love plum and iris. 2. The bottle. It is both campy and elegant and one of the best bottle designs by Marc Jacobs. 3. It is difficult to find. This makes it more attractive. 4. The name. I love the word itself, it comes from the Latin word "cadere" (to fall) and I really like the way this word sounds. It is a real shame this has been discontinued. I wish they would bring this back because I'm sure they will make many women (and some men) very happy. It is bold, different but easy to wear. The plum note dominates the fragrance throughout its duration. It reminds me of jam. The vetiver is strong for the first couple of hours. The saffron, iris and orris create a powdery, creamy base. When this combination dries down and most of the vetiver gets shed, it reminds me of a creamy dessert from my childhood. However, it remains elegant and classy. It is autumn now and I finally feel comfortable wearing this. The fragrance is like a warm hug. Sillage: at least moderate for at least 3 hours. Longevity: 7-8 hours on skin. I could still smell the delicious dessert on my shirt the following day. Spraying this on your hair also helps it last very long. Originality: 7+/10 Presentation (including name): 9/10 "Decadence" is a very appropriate name in the sense of "luxurious self-indulgence". Not only is the fragrance great but it is also nicely presented. It stands out in comparison to most Marc Jacobs bottles. The suede box was super cool.

I'm hooked on Fragrantica and there's no going back, but sometimes I do wish I could return to the days when I walked into department stores, sampled whatever caught my eye, and then bought whatever was most pleasing to my nose, without being swayed by other people's opinions! I'm disgustingly easily influenced! I've seen this get bad review after bad review, and because I'm not keen on Marc Jacobs' other offerings, I wrote it off completely. And not because I don't like the bottle - you can call it cheap and tacky, but I reckon it's fabulously kitsch and downright adorable. And yes, GigiTheFashionista, I'd kill to see them make a 'real-life' version to tote this about in! Well, I tried it today. And........ lesson learned. It's lovely! The plummy opening with the saffron does, in my humble opinion, do justice to the name 'Decadence', and I love Rose and jasmine anyway, so that's a win-win for me. It's nowhere near as sweet as his other creations, I enjoy the way the vetiver gives it a masculine edge. I find it very appealing, and I'm sorely tempted to purchase. It's been described as an evening scent, and as a single mummy, I don't get to do much dancing till dawn these days. Sod it. I can still be the best smelling shopper at the grocery store. Note to self: Trust your own sniffer before all others - it 'nose' best (sorry, had to be done...)

This scent is fantastic! I'm not even sure I can describe how it smells, but I love how it smells. Kind of dark and mysterious, sensual and classy. I will need to test out my sample more before adding it to my want list, but I seriously think I want this! edit 12/28/22: This is my second time wearing this fragrance and I am in LOVE. The iris is really prominent, but it's not coming across as lipstick-y which I enjoy the change of pace. Lipsticky scents are some of my favorite, but it's nice to appreciate a different side of iris. I think I am getting a lot of the vetiver and amber as well and it's just so lovely! This is truly a phenomenal scent, probably the most original and noteworthy scent Marc Jacobs has come out with (that I have tried lol). I absolutely want a bottle of this. edit: 5/1/23: This is my third time wearing my sample and this time around I smell chocolate!! It's actually really nice, but I don't love that each time I wore this I got a different scent. Makes me think that if I owned this I would never reach for it because I would crave a certain iteration and be disappointed if I didn't get that and therefore would probably skip over this scent. That being said, if I ever found a big bottle for under $30...I might just take the chance on it!

I never really noticed the pickle smell until tonight - it's not consistent, but I catch whiffs of it. Kinda amusing, don't really mind it since I don't really pick that up the most but I can see why it would be offputting, lol. Anyways, why did I notice it? I sprayed myself to compare with a concoction I tried at Sephora, where I made a nice discovery! Looking for a dupe? Try this: Layer Wild Vanilla Orchid with Terre d'Hermes, or any other perfume you can find with vetiver base notes. WVO alone does smell pretty similar to Decadence, but it's quite feminine smelling and is missing some of those more masculine notes. Add the TDH, and you get something pretty close. Slightly more woodiness. No papyrus so no pickles so maybe some of you might like the combo better than the real thing. But overall, not bad at all - I felt it was closer than just WVO alone. TDH was the only vetiver scent with a tester at my Sephora, so that's just what I used for this experiment but I'm sure you could try other vetiver fragrances (or stuff with the other base notes). Also, they are overall different, however, if you like this you might like Zuma 1975 by Thin Wild Mercury.

At my local Macy's, I got to talking with one of the fragrance salesgirls & she asked if I had ever tried Marc Jacobs Decadence EDP. I was surprised they had a tester of this honestly, since it's been around for way longer than most of their other inventory. I said no but I'd love to try it & she totally understood what I was going for scent-wise because this parfum was fantastic. I just wasn't gonna pay what Macy's wanted for it. I apologized to the salesgirl because she said yes when I asked if she got commission. I didn't write down any notes on the frag, I just remember like a flower blooming in my mind, a bright natural light emerging in my mind's eye, so obviously I loved it. It puts me in the mindset of Thierry Mugler's Alien. Deep, dark, warm, sweet ambery floral. Mostly jasmine, but I feel I do detect the rose & the iris as well. The vetiver & papyrus give Decadence EDP an option to be unisex. The plum is like the fruit's perfect juice squeezed over various different thick flower petals. Maybe a plum jam, if that exists. I'm definitely open to trying the flankers now. Decadence was named aptly so. <3

SILENCE EVERYONE!! Thisis the fragrance of a modern witch, an ancient sorceress reborn into the present!! Not a pleaser for the massive audiences.. it ́s a true masterpiece of the modern perfume world. Plum, Papyrus, Vetiver, Saffron.. they are not waiting for you to get cozy, they strike you right at once... but in a pleasent and sofisticated way. The scent is deep, resinous, floral, SEDUCTIVE and MYSTERIOUS. If you are into this kind of deep powerful scents, you will love it ! I will make you feel sexy and mysterious. My absolute favorite scent for winter, exclusive for special ocasions. I wore this to a wedding and got many compliments. Too beautiful and powerful to be wasted at the office in my opinion. Sillage: Monster, kinda vintage style.. that good. You WILL be noticed. Longevity: Eternal longevity. It will not fail you. Bottle: I love the materials, the color, the snake pattern, the deep emerald dusty green of the juice.. all of that is great, but the resamblance of a purse is.. kind of tacky to my taste. I would have preferred the shape of a crystal gem, or something less stupid than a PURSE..

When this perfume first came out when I was in high school, I truly disliked the scent. It smelled too leathery and had a weird combination for my 16 year old nose. I bought it anyway because I disliked the other sickeningly sweet Marc Jacobs perfumes out at the time. I figured I'd grow to love it as I got older. And oh boy have I grown to love it. I have a small amount of this perfume left and I refuse to ever use it, save for maybe the most outlandishly important day of my life because finding this fragrance is so difficult now. It's truly an intoxicating blend of feminine notes that I tend to dislike in my fragrances (particularly iris) and a slight masculine peeking out (maybe the orris? it smells somewhat leathery to me) that just sucks me in. This perfume is the antithesis of what I usually go for but encapsulates femme fatale in my opinion. If I could go back in time and buy one more bottle of this, I would. I sniff it every so often to remind me of my regret of not appreciating it until now.

I absolutely adore this one and have gone through hell to get it, but I finally have my 50ml of it. I sprayed it in store and knew I loved it, but only had a decanter of it. I find it so interesting that this could smell totally different on other people than it does on my skin. I put this on one of my best friends and on her skin this smelled like straight up dill. But not fresh dill, the one that you find in pickle juice. Horrendous. I am so glad this one reacts completely different with my skin. I get the plum and a lavender note, a bit on the heavier side, but I do not mind it one bit. Very good longevity. It deserves its name, a truly decadent fragrance, but also very tricky. Try it beforehand, don’t blind buy as you might end up disappointed when finding out this one smells like pickled dill on you. :)

Hard to find cause it’s discontinued, so grab it if you find a deal. This will forever hold a special place in my heart. They name of the perfume fits perfectly with the content. I had a hard time getting used to the bottle, but today I can appreciate it. Decadence is such a dark, sultry, mysterious unique scent. It’s complex and brings the confident women out of me. It stands out, I would even call it provocative in a superluxurious way. It’s woodsy sweet in a surprisingly green creamy spicy way. The rich plum is decadent and mixes beautifully with the saffron and florals. Blended to perfection! The perfect signature scent for sure. If you want to be remembered from the first date, wear this. If you want want to feel empowered and confident, buy this! Alluring, luxurious, sexy, edgy...PERFECTION!

I can understand why this perfume has mixed reviews because it is not the regular, safe scent you expect from Marc Jacobs. This perfume is in your face and if it works well with your body chemistry, like it does for me, people will smell you before they see you. Very fruity, floral, sweet and heady scent. Definitely for the bold, classy woman who loves attention. I live in a hot climate and I wear this without any issues. Longevity is great but I always layer my perfumes with perfume oils so that might be why. If you are having issues with your perfumes disappearing too quickly on you, try layering it with a perfume oil that is similar notes and you will get better projection and staying power. I would love to try the other flanks of this scent before it is totally unavailable again.

This is one of my favourite perfumes. It is unbelievably sexy with that iris and plum. It is classy and sophisticated like the description says. You can wear this in the day time! Honestly, you don't have to dress like some high fashion runway model but you do have to dress more on the elegant side. Think at the very least, heels/boots with jeans and a shirt, or even better; a dress. All black anything works with this amazingly. This perfume is perfect for a woman who loves to dress elegant and feminine. Adriana Lima was the main campaign face for this bottle so take that as you will but do not compare yourself to her! You are your own model. Anyone between young adult and a more mature adult can pull this off, it all depends on how you dress and your attitude.

Oh my, this is a gem, especially coming from MJ. It has personality and depth, and a bit of magic. I usually stay away from perfumes with rose notes, but every once in a while I stumble on some juices that are blended nicely and not overpowered by it - this is one of them! It’s woodsy floral with some amber for thickness and the plum works fabulously with the rose - it reminds me of Givenchy Very Irresistible Intense which I love and was also discontinued, so I’m happy I have this one now! For those in UK, you can get it online at the moment- I think there was a limited re-release. Whoever related this perfume to wooden fairies at night was right on the money - it has magic in it! Would wear it for a dinner date, dressed in silk...

I found myself liking this fragrance back in 2017 but never went out of my way to go purchase it beyond trying a sample. I was crushed to learn that this fragrance was discontinued as it was one of the most memorable scents that I couldn't get out of my head to this day. I did find a bottle as of recent and it's honestly a scent that can't be replaced so easily. It's a beautiful and captivating scent that I love to smell. The sweetness of the plum mixed with the florals just makes it one of a kind. As a masculine wearer, I would say this fragrance is pretty good as a unisex fragrance (Though it does lean feminine) and I'd recommend it to any bold enough guy who wants to smell like absolute divinity.

On intial blast I get the pickle juice smell, but it disappates very quickly. Next I get a very spicy sexy plum, although no vanilla listed there is a hint of it in there, after the full dry down I smell that vetiver and get the dryness of the papyrus. It almost, hear me out B.O smelling but not bad B.O that kind of sexy body odour, that primal smell of light sweat, almost pheromone in nature, if you know what I mean. This is what makes it attractive and very sexy and unisex despite the bottle, I think a guy could definitely pull this fragrance off. It is a win for me shame they discontinued it, feel lucky to have obtained a 100ml bottle, it is the only Marc Jacob's I have found really interesting.

This has been one of my go to's since it came out and I'm on bottle 3 out of 3, but i never ever got that pickle note people are writing about here lol personally i love it and a lot of my friends like it too, absolutely no pickle or even tartness on my skin, starting very fruity, I know it's plum but to me it always read more as cassis, getting quite jamy, pruney and by the end it sweet and woody with only a hint of the initial fruitiness still around. Kinda disagree also on the season, for me this is a summer night scent, something about the woody notes in this are imo more cold-smokey-woody rather than warm-cozy-fireplace-woody if that makes sense...

Wow, this is a modern-day masterpiece, this is simply an amazing fragrance! All the people who downvoted this fragrance either haven't tried it or just reading notes and voting against it. The presentation alone is 10/10, the fragrance is 9.5/10, longevity 6/10 and what is MOST IMPORTANT = IT IS AFFRORDABLE!!! This is a hundred bucks fragrance, not a $4000 like ROJA DOVE HAUTE LUXE so please haters go elsewhere with your high demanding & simply pathetic requests. To all the fragrance lovers out there this is 100% a must addition to any collection and your loved one would smell like an angel from havens. I highly recommend it.

I was slayed dead at first sniff. My love for perfume rekindled, I sought out a used bottle after I finished that garage sale sample. Decadence only needs one spray, any more than two and the wearer can easily stray into ratchet territory. It’s as different as night is to day compared to Marc Jacobs’ Daisy line- none of those possess the deep dark forest fairy feeling Decadence does. Plum, green woods, vanilla and leather- Fleetwood Mac playing, lampshades covered in colored silk, velvet bell bottoms. Maybe, just maybe- smoking a menthol cigarette. Decadence makes me feel like a bad girl. And I love it.
