Lola

Oh my... Calice Becker is a genius! Lola is by the same creator as 2 of my other faves - 'J'Adore by Dior' and 'Tommy girl by Tommy Hilfiger' I wrote a review for this about a year ago, and said that the perfume was okay but not spectacular and that a roller ball will suffice. Well, the craziest thing happened since then. I wore this perfume during the holidays 2 years ago, and found it was subdued and elegant enough, but nothing like crazy good. Fast forward another year, and I'm like, WOW. It didn't really smell different but I interpreted it totally differently. It is very exquisite and sophisticated, and maybe my skin chemistry has changed, but the way it smells on my skin is unbelievable and unlike ANY other perfume I've ever smelled. I get this aroma from that is so hard to put my finger on, but it actually reminds me a lot of one of my favourite scents in the world 'Neutrogena Body Oil'. It smells like the base is just like that but then there is just an unbelievable fresh and yummy quality that is definitely from the pink pepper (and vanilla). The rose may be what gives the perfume it's oily aroma, it smells like a hot, rich bath in a dark room lit by just a few candles. The bath is filled with red and black rose petals and there are slices of lemon and yuzu (the pear and grapefruit). Under these fresh bursts of citrus, rose, pink pepper, and a light and subdued peony, there lies a warm vanilla base that gives the fragrance it's slightly gourmand qualilty. I picture the vanilla as little wisps of vanilla bubbles in this bath of Lola yumminess. I just bought myself a 100 ml now that I'm done with my roller ball and have no regrets, just that I didn't realize how much I love this fragrance sooner! It's so original, unlike a lot of my perfumes, and I feel before the week is done this will probably become my new signature, as I never smell this on other people, and the fact that apparently it mixes not well with most people's chemistry makes it even more special and personal to me in a way, I think. Also, the bottle is a lot better looking in person than in the photo which was a relief! I used to be obsessed with Daisy by Marc Jacobs a few years ago, but never replaced my bottle once it ran out as the scent became too popular, so it's nice to have another MJ to replace it. The more I smell this perfume, the more I love it, this is something I have found is a rare but amazing quality that means you and a perfume are probably bonded for life, this has also happened to me with 'Dkny Golden Delicious'.

Very similar to the part in the first Harry Potter movie where Olivander tells Harry; "the wand chooses the wizard, Harry," the same concept exists with Lola; this perfume chooses the wearer. Alot of comments mention how this perfume smells "plasticky" or synthetic, and I can totally understand where those thoughts may come from. The first time I gave Lola a sniff it was straight from the nozzle and I had that YUCK! reaction. I thought to myself, why would anyone actually find this perfume pleasant to wear? I moved on and forgot about it. Fast forward a year later, to where Lola and I meet again. This time it wasn't at a perfume counter, but one of my best friends was wearing her. A few of us went out the bars and all night I kept smelling something amazing coming from one of my friends and I finally had to ask "who the hell smells so effing good and what are you wearing?!" When she responded "Lola...Marc Jacobs," my face was kind of like this -----> O_o I asked her to repeat her answer because there was no way the stinky perfume I smelled a year ago could actually be this beautiful on the skin. The next morning, I find my sample of Lola and spray it on my wrist, still in disbelief. I left my wrist alone for a few minutes so the spray could fully dry and then I gave her a sniff.... Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful....peppery...rose....vanilla...tonka...musk....PERFECTION. Lola was the perfume that really got me to start appreciating rose notes in perfume. The rose is blended together so perfectly with all the other notes and is so radiant and delicious. Lola is powerful without being in your face. The longevity? Could be better if you ask me, I usually get only 6 hours of wear which isn't that stellar compared to alot of my other perfumes. The bottle? Not really my favorite, I find it overly tacky for my taste but I'm willing to look past it for the juice. You HAVE to test Lola on your skin otherwise you will not get the full effect! On a tester strip and on the nozzle this perfume just flat lines.. My conclusion: no, Lola is not for everyone and as a poster mention above, it really shouldn't be. This is why I reference the HP quote. If Lola is meant to be...she will choose you and you two will have a beautiful relationship. If not, wellll then it's on to the next one.... :)

I was gifted this one for Christmas 2012 and I finished the 50 ml bottle. Prior to that I really could not decide in between this and Oh, Lola! In the end this one won my heart :) if today they sold this stuff again I would make a blessing altar for Marc Jacobs as my hero and run out to get a couple of the 100 ml bottle. I think I was not ready at age 22 to fully appreciate this beauty and it definitively was an important addiction in my love for rose fragrances. This is a dark floral. Take roses, add the pink pepper and a sort of berry jam with a slight tropical touch. LOVED this stuff. So somebody mentioned, this is a sort of punk concert in a bottle. But a pretty one at that. I imagine Debbie Harry from Blondie wearing this. It also screams Heroin Chic. So mix: punk, heroin chic, dark feminine vibes and the tropics = this :) Seems like the pink pepper bit horrified many, but that is what REALLY attracted me to it. This stuff is spicy. Spicy, flirty and seductive. I read that apparently this fragrance was inspired by vampires. I must also say I am inherently attracted to more bittersweet/bit tangy fragrances, so that “vampiric bite” of the pink pepper really sold it for me. You can also think when you smell this pink pepper like that is a bit of actual snake poison and then a dark blooming bouquet of red roses emerges. It still remains a bit tangy, a bit dry, a bit understated all throughout. This is one is for an archetype that has recently entered the modern media: the succubus chic (or vampire chic lol) This one is for all the women (and older teens) who are not overly sexual, there is a purity there, but who do like to seduce. They care less about the act and more about the seduction ritual. This one is also Ophelia floating in a lake surrounded by flowers. A dark berry lipstick note. Roses, exotic tropical flowers, dark earthy colors, lake water 💧 it’s so playful it becomes sarcastic. Some will dislike that... but for the brave one who likes that kind of vibe... oh boy... that person won’t be able to get away from you. A perfume before it’s time. I am kind of in shock how many people dislike this, maybe I was lucky it worked like magic on me.

This is my kind of perfume! The bottle may look tacky and silly with the oversized rubber flower stopper but it's an eye popping cute vanity table perfume if you're like me and are a very girly girl. I love how it looks in my bedroom. Lola smells a bit like a 1980s or 1990's vintage fragrance. It's not quite the same but it's giving off vibes of Ex'cla-ma'tion by Coty. It's a perfume one would have found in the wardrobe of Lisa Turtle from Saved By The Bell, or Molly Ringwald's room, or in cartoons, Fifi LaFume from Tiny Toons. It's got an innocent youthful girl vibe; but with a touch of maturity due to it's being a floral. When you spray it, the scent comes off as exceedingly sweet; almost sour, with a sticky and gooey floral oil type of vibe. The florals are coming through almost immediately with a distinctive geranium and rose pair. Not terribly fruity but there is a can't-miss-it grapefruit accord that is also coming through. The grapefruit and pink pepper give it a nice bite. This is still mostly more geranium and rose oil type of perfume. The scent is strong and lasts forever. The dry down reveals - at least to my nose - musk and vanilla. This is like a big flower has wrapped it's petals and sepals and stem all around you. Gorgeous and simple linear and sweet. If you like sweet florals and vintage style modern scents definitely for you. A fragrance to put on after you dress up in a pretty spring or summer 'retro' fashion, as in a real dress, not just a skirt, a nice cocktail dress, bold colors like violet, purple, pink or red, and with lipstick and high heels, make up. This is a very womanly dressy fancy scent but at the same time not too sophisticated, like a young woman who aspires to higher social status and is still learning and climbing the social ladder. It's also somehow innocent, cartoony cute like a dress for Minnie Mouse or Betty Boop. It's a colorful perfume. But you have to really like florals for you to like it.

I used to go to punk-rock concerts wearing Lola and a leather jacket. As a college student at the time, I mostly wore safe office-appropriate scents, but whenever I was mad at the world, it would be Lola. I like the pear, but I love the explosion of roses and peonies that Lola is after an hour or so. The musk, pear and roses conspire to give it a darker edge, almost like vinyl or hairspray, not sure what it is exactly. I didn't care. I always loved it and it's a quality scent, but it's not necessarily a crowd-pleaser. That was sort of the point. Fast-forward more than a decade and my husband still likes it on me, but it's not his favourite. I feel like I've outgrown the punk pears and peonies. Maybe I'll sell the rest of my bottle to an edgy tween (at heart). I was confused by a review down here that compared it to Modern Muse Le Rouge, which I associate with the mature, classy, happy, nice lady (not exactly punk-rock and black eyeliner). Then again, Le Rouge also has this odd quality that makes it a suitable scent for teens. I wore them side by side and went: 'Ohhhh, yeah...' I can see how you'd get there, they definitely are family at some point in the development. Both warm, both expensive-smelling, both fruity-florals that are well-grounded in their respective bases, keeping them from the usual fruity-floral screeching. They even both have that hint of vintage. I have to say that I think Le Rouge is better. Le Rouge is more well-rounded, more mature and more put together. Le Rouge gives me the same vibe as Idôle by Lancôme, but you wouldn't put Lola in that lady-like category. Lola is the younger cousin going through the grunge phase that Le Rouge has gotten over by now. We still love her though.

I'm surprised so many people don't like this scent. It is definetly not my favourite, and a rollerball will suffice but I do not understand this reference I keep reading about where people say it smells like plastic and talcum. To me this is definetly an evening scent (even though as I write this it's noon... felt like mixing it up today!) It is ultra mature and probably the most sophisticated of Marc Jacobs' scents. The rose is not too sharp or overpowering is rather sweet when complimented by the pear, which reminds me quite a bit of one of my favourite fragrances, Trésor in Love, which also has roses and pears. The Vanilla and Tonka Bean lend itself to create what some would consider a 'gourmand' scent, despite the obvious floral qualities. The lemon and pink pepper add an usual burst of freshness. This scent to me is perfect for the holidays, and a great choice for a christmas party. Despite some reviews which claim this is a 'sweaty' scent, I find it quite clean and subtle. Perhaps this works better with my body chemistry than the mass majority. I am a huge fan of all Marc Jacobs fragrances, but this one definetly stands out from the rest. I do not suggest blind buying this just because you like his other fragrances because it is very different, a lot more grown-up. What else can I say? When I smell this I smell 'elegance' EDIT: I should also include that the dry-down is almost a pure, delicate vanilla

Bottles get lost in my collection and I find that months or sometimes years go by between wearings even of those I really & truly enjoy. Such is the case with Lola. I feel naked when I leave the house unfragranced but occasionally I have to dash out --like today when I had an early appointment but the alarm didn't go off-- and well, there I am in the car feeling naked. That's why I keep a couple of small rollerballs in my purse, one of which is Lola. As I smoothed Lola over my arms and on my neck I resolved to find my (probably 10 year old) 100ml bottle when I got home because I'd completely forgotten how much I enjoy Lola's unique aura, enormous sillage and 10-12 hour persistence. There's something just so deliciously JUICY about Lola! No doubt it's a rose fragrance and a softly musky one at that but the overly ripe pear and the sunny tang of grapefruit make Lola a whole 'nother incarnation of rose, one that's not strictly floral nor can it be dismissed as a simple or generic floral-fruity. Very sweet, yes, but not candy sweet. Hard to explain this concoction but if it was on offer iced in a punch bowl I'd happily drink cup after cup. Just found out Lola's been discontinued so when I discovered my bottle with its hideously kitschy cap was just 1/2 full I ordered a beat up capless bottle for cheap on fleabay. True, I've haven't worn Lola often or even recently but I wouldn't want to be without her.

a sweet plastic y (just a hint)..you know the smell of those sweet erasers you used to have as a kid and almost want to eat..now i know why i liked it ! a fresh.. young.. sweet.. gourmand.. but its not that you almost want to drink it.. as in the escadas.. it has a unique character.. for a light floral powdery sweetish fragrance..i think the newer one.. the pink long one is alot friendlier or atleast will appeal to the younger crowds much more.. its fruity.. tropical.. bit of coconut. a bit of vanilla.. a bit of burnt sugar.. oh and the rubhub is just in your face.. and pears.. and all the exotic fruits of the enchanted forest..its almost made for a smurfet.. but something is missing the complexity.. the depth.. maybe i am smelling it and reviewing it after reviewing some master pieces.. so its not fair to judge it now..i bought it when it first came out i was in to those new purple bottles like the nina richi and packo rbane andd valantino u know 2008 or 9 the theme was all those sweet gormond young fre spritied light hearted perfumes that dont last long .. i want to smell the depth but nothing as if its all made up of top notes.. and maybe one or 2 middle notes there is no base to the perfume.. its just a beautiful young sweet fragrance that will not stand the test of time.. perfume ratting 3.6 out of 5 botlle rating tacky but unique 3.8 out 5

The 80’s etched and forwarded a postcard in the form of a huge damascone-primped rose that mixed her timelines and arrived too late for a debutante ball lined by simper looking, lipgloss tinted, ironed-haired coquettes that look dismissively at her neon eyeshadow and bouffant hair. Bestowed by her 3 godmothers Paris, Parfum de Peau and Nahema, with the gifts (?) of fluorescent rosiness, stubborn sillage and spicy charm, she’s defying the times she was tossed into and sets to rebel against the vapid stereotypes associated with youthful fruity florals. An inebriated rose bathed by baroque decadence, velvety roundness, piquant brashiness, loud and tad obnoxious, as if Cindy Lauper and Joan Jett mixed molecules to make one beautiful but very insolent baby. There’s a fruitiness combining with a big wallop of hot, fruity synthetic musk that reminds me of the tutti fruity smell of a translucent pink eraser I had at school that I used to rub just to get a whiff of the fruity bubblegum sweetness mixed with the hot rubber smell. Pink, acid-washed All Stars, Vivienne Westwood tartan dress and safety pins on a (physically but maybe not mentally) more grown up Pippi Longstocking. Cutesy rebellion.

Oh how I've missed this one. I said before that I was hesitant of repurchasing because i was worried I'd associate it with a bad time from long ago. But I didn't realise how hard it was to get at a reasonable price now and when i found one I could afford I couldn't avoid it any longer, and I'm so glad i went for it. It actually brings me back to really good times; when me and my husband were young,childless ( even though i love them more than the world) and free. When I'd wear this before a night out with friends and have a great time. It still smells the same to me; like sugar candied rose petals and musk sticks (an aussie lolly). Its heavy, not heavy in the way say, Hypnotic poison is heavy and thick, but in the sense that it has no fresh notes coming through, I get little to no grapefruit at all. It's all rose petals and tonka bean here but it's got an addictive quality to it that makes me just keep inhalong it. It's very long lasting also. Lola is quite unique and I'm yet to smell anything similar, and in all honesty I usually find Marc Jacobs fragrances to be a bit overpriced and underwhelming, but this is quite lovely. I also like Oh Lola but not quite as much as this one.

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Like Lancomes Magnifique Lola is approaching niche territory. "What did she say?" I hear people thinking. This one? Oh, yes! It ́s VERY good, juicy, boozy and at the same time fresh and flowery- it ́s a contrasting fragrance, so I am not talking weird niche, just maybe ALMOST a beginner ́s niche, like something by Montale or Bond. Sure, pink pepper has been overused, but when it ́s as perfect in moderation as it is here- who cares? I adore that it has rose and grapefruit. I am finding that I really love scents with the rose/grapefruit combo- it ́s wonderful in Byredo Rose Noir as well. Peony makes it flirty, geranium serious, so it ́s a slightly contrasting fragrance- is it for perky girls or grown women? Again, who cares? ANY woman could wear this and would smell wonderful in it. I don ́t really smell vanilla, but rather the tonka and musk, this type, is in almost ALL modern scents, so nothing to add about that. Somehow Lola also makes me think of Tauer perfumes- the boozy depth combined with something fun and sunny, as in hot weather sunny, not as in "happy-go-lucky" sunny. Lola is really very nice and I want more of it.

ok normally i hate the smell of roses in perfume.so cloying and synthetic. blind bought this from reviews here,and it was like $6 for a rollerball,so thought what the heck,if I hate it I have a 17 yr old daughter who would enjoy it,or a friend.Put it on maybe 30 mins ago,and I love it! the rose is definitely front and center,but it isn't gagging and over powering at all.I think the musk gives it a softer,more earthy feeling. the sillage isn't what I was hoping for,but it is a rollerball,so perhaps in a spray it would project more.I will update my review at the end of the day,if I get any compliments and how the dry down works out Either way,it's a keeper,and will definitely be buying a larger edp or edt asap! ok i didn't get too many compliments,a few and my bf likes it,he was surprised I did lol.it's definitely rosy,but i did enjoy the dry down,very soft and musky. again sillage was a bit too close to the skin.but perhaps in spray form it will be stronger.will definitely re-purchase this one.

I love this! I think my view of it is influenced by the memories that it holds for me, I was gifted it by my now husband in about 2010. The initial notes are spicy grapefruit, this settles to spicy sweet rose / peony, with the lingering scent being rose, something sweet but spiced and the musk. I agree with this scent being very similar to Lush's Rose Jam. I find one spray more than sufficient, it has good sillage and lasts 8 hours or more on me. If I spray it on clothes, it lingers for weeks! My bottle is very nearly gone. I was going to just end it with finishing it, but I couldn't imagine not having this in my collection. As it is discontinued, I bought a partly used bottle from ebay, most go for quite a bit of money but I managed to get about 30ml for £9 including postage. I class this scent as my first proper adult fragrance and maybe that's why it's so special to me as I see that reviews are quite polarised!

Lola joined my perfume family today. When this fragrance settled on my skin it reminded me of smelling a bouquet of fresh flowers. It's like picking a huge bunch daffodils in the spring and smelling them all at once. The rose notes are the strongest with peppery undertones and is it just me or can anyone else smell a hint of smoky-ness? The bottle as on all Marc Jacobs fragrances is a work of art! Some say they are tacky but if you love the other MJ fragrance bottles this will be a welcome addition to your collection. I feel Lola would suit a more mature woman (even though I'm 22 and I will quite happily wear her). Whereas Oh! Lola is definitely suited to the younger ladies. Over all I would say try Lola a few times before you knock it. Or at least try it a few times before you buy it to make sure it suits you as I can imagine that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Little story behind this one: Im in Australia and about 3 and a half years ago, me and my husband were living in the pilbarra ( north west) with our then 6mnth old boy and once my husbands job ran out we had to pack up and move back down south asap to find more work; so we gad to sell anything that wasn't an absolute necessity..which for me meant parting with my collection of designer scents. I loved this one, i had a friend tell me i smelled like musk stick lollies once while wearing it lol. Its sweet with a slight spicyness to it. Ive never really been much for rose dominated scents but this ones quite fresh and sweet. Ive always wanted to replace this one but i havent for fears it will bring back bad memories of those days but i do love it. lasting power is good too. Ive never really smelled anything quite like it its unusual and can be worn by any age

I really, really like Lola! Such a gorgeus, dark, rose-musk-vanilla fragrance. I think the floral fruity category won't do it any justice. Makes it look lighter and more general than it actually is. At the beginning there is strong grapefruit and pink pepper, but soon it turns into that rose musky vanilla-y thing I already mentioned. Lovely! Lola is in no way a typical floral fruity, not even a floral and definitely not fruity. I'd say it leans more to oriental or gourmand, during the middle notes even to woody if I'm being bold here. One would have thought that for a fragrance with a powerful spirit like Lola, it would have a monster sillage, but alas, it doesn't. The sillage is just medium, which makes it suitable for daytime too. It doesn't last that long either, something around 4-5 hours on me. Still, I'm so glad I bought this!

Usually I feel buyers remorse after I give into my impulses and buy a new perfume. I don't even know how it happens. Once in a while I'll walk into a store to buy something else, and I'll end up with a new perfume. But this time when it happened, I didn't feel guilty at all. I absolutely love this perfume. You have your Daisys and newer fragrances like Dot. Then there's this. I can see why maybe the "Daisy" crowd doesn't like this because it's heavier and contains rose. I don't know why younger people don't care for rose, but I love it. The rose in this blends so well with the other notes. It's just so amazing. It's almost hard to describe properly. Just give it a chance! Oh, and it lasts forever and projects very well! I only needed a two sprays tops.

This fragrance is beautiful, mysterious, and sexy. It has lots of layers but upon first spray you get roses, pink pepper, and vanilla. It is warm and spicy but somehow floral and sweet too. I don't even know how to explain it but whenever I wear it I get showered in compliments. It makes me feel like such a woman. I've got to say the most compliments I get are from men who seem to love this smell. Another thing I love is that it lasts but it isn't overpowering, but if people lean in or hug me they immediately are like what are you wearing, wow! I see this perfume as a power perfume; walk into a room and own it. Its so so unique too. I have never smelled anything like it ever. This is my signature scent for sure.

Lola has been my ultimate favorite and my signature scent since 2009. I wear it all seasons. Very versatile and appealing. The vanilla and pear notes here are very slight that I can hardly smell them. However, what I surely get is a pleasant smell of roses, plum, booze, and red currant. It’s like sipping a plum and red currant boozy punch in a flower garden while the weather is a bit cool and fresh. It gets me straight in a dreamy mood with just a whiff. It’s lovely and mature —not grandma mature, but rather a thriving attractive woman in her 30’s who knows her worth and likes to be treated accordingly. Lola is thirty and flirty and thriving! ;) Gets me compliments.

I think Lola is a love or hate perfume, and I am on the lovers' side. Purple bottle is very original, although the velvet cap is better than plastic cap. For me this is a spicy rose scent with strong vanilla notes. Scent stays with you very long time, and after the dry down it gets better and better, smells like a rose scented lipstick with strong sillage.. I receive so many compliments with this perfume so I believe it fits to my chemistry. I love wearing this in winter, because due to its strong presence, wearing it in summer may be disturbing. If you like your rose spicy and sweet, then this is a must try.
