Splash - The Basil 2008

I absolutely love this scent - to me it's by far the most pleasant one out of the whole Marc Jacobs series (with Pomegranate as a close second). At first I couldn't picture wanting to smell like basil, but as it turns out, I do! It's clean, light, refreshing and interesting - the perfect everyday scent. On me this perfume simply smells of pure basil, I don't pick up on the lemon or the tomato leaf at all. If you're after something light and fresh for daytime but don't want to turn to citrus or aquatics, this is just perfect.

There was interesting as on male skin (on me:)) the flowery heart notes were dominant at first, especially jasmine and freesia, and the herbal notes joined later: the basil with a hint of tomatoleaf. And nothing citrusy appeared at all. The drydown is so light after an hour, you just smell a little sandalwood. Splash Basil is a pleasant scent but way too weak "alone". I use it as "base" for another (male) scent. It works well with Michael Jordan 23 (strengthens the geranium-magnolia notes) or with Avon Essence for men which is also a light green scent and great together with Basil. I didn't regret to buy this gigantic bottle for almost half price on Amazon :)

I agree with the other reviews - this scent starts with a light, herbaceous spiciness and natural sweetness of the unique basil that is very realistic indeed and a hint of invigorating lemon. Masculine, pure and spotlessly, spotlessly clean (later on very lightly sensual in kind of innocent way), fresh and "white-soapy", the fragrance is charmingly lovable! It doesn't last very long and couple of hours later, it has to be toped up. This would be fantastic in a hot weather and might even last longer!

his 300 ml splashes are so very great!! all of them! love and have almost all of them..basil, cucumber, biscotti, pomegranate..sprayed on either just showered (or not lol!) body they have a lasting power..love the big bottle! and you can re use them..the top comes off!! what a simple and beautiful design and a reason to keep the bottle.

I LOVE all of his 300 ml scents..I have almost all of them..They are unique..they have a great staying power and I love to have a huge bottle (although spraying can be a little challenging sometimes while holding the bottle)as I use them right after shower all over my body..Love them!

I smelled this on a friend and instantly fell in love with it so will buy it soon.

When I read the notes in the net, I was very very excited with this perfume. and when I found it in a department store in my city, i was thrilled! I walk happily to the marc jacobs counter while ignoring other sales staff trying to spray many other fragrances on me, and i sprayed it! oh... i nearly tought this is most unique green fragrance ever! it was undoubtedly fresh and natural for me. it was dewy, freshly plucked green leaves in a bottle. lovely lovely lovely but not for long... a minute later that freshness i adore so much is gone. it turns to flat, ordinary, boring white soap. if it is the fresh-from-shower kind of smell you are looking for, this might be the one splash you need. but not for me...

Truly amazing. The most I can say is that I MUST have this one to add to my collection. I love basil, we grow it in my backyard and the smell is so unique. I also love the taste, and Marc Jacobs has managed to make basil a wearable, intriguing fragrance! MJ Basil is sweet, but not sugary. It is light enough to wear all day, every day... so people won't ask you if you rubbed basil all over yourself before you left the house ;-] A nice refreshing, tasteful scent you can wear through the summer. This is a splash (like a body spray) so it is a big bottle for an inexpensive price. If you're interested in basil, do not pass this up. It's wonderful. Makes me want to try the others in the MJ Splash line.

Love the smell of this, it's a more rounded (less piquant or citrusy) Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin, but as everyone else has noted it really doesn't last. I suppose that's the nature of a splash, but it's a shame as it's just lovely. I get the fresh zest of basil, some herbaceous sweetness from the tomato leaf, and just a touch of lemon. I think the freesia works nicely to make the splash smell 'perfumey' and not just gourmand. I love it! It's a shame they've discontinued this line, as far as I know, because they were quite fun and many of them smelled delicious.

Basil holded my hand from the first time I smelled it. Like it was telling me take me home with you. I am certainly weak on green perfumes, and this is one of them. Herbal and spicy smell on basil and lemons, with a hint of flowers. Refreshing and masculine. And unusual. When I think about the perfumes, this is the description of what I search in them. Despite that I didn’t buy Basil. The lasting time is measured in minutes, and has no strength whatsoever. Not worth buying.

I tried it the other day.OMG, I was such a fool not to buy it right there and then.The basil scent is truly real, and it`s fresh without feeling squeaky clean.I liked it most of all in the Splash line and Mr Jacobs definitely earned some brownie points on this one.

Am still pondering over this. Love the herbacious linear scent but for the bug spary moment that doesn't linger (thankfully). A tad too light IMO, MJ Cucumber clings more tenaciously.

This doesn't even last the time it takes me to leave the bathroom...
