Encelade

Encelade Marc-Antoine Barrois I dig Quentin Bisch's releases. Didn't hesitate to blind buy Encelade. Out of MAB's 5 releases I only have the best known Ganymede but along the years and way I've come to own quite a few Quentin Bisch's creations. From the first sprays at 7am, from the first few sniffs and as I smell myself, I can immediately tell that.... Encelade is Special. It is Unique, Sophisticated, Classy. It is One of it's kind, despite the usage of synthetics. I don't think I have something close to it amongst the hundreds of bottles but there are similarities and vibes with other frags I have and nosed and these are also Quentin Bisch's perfume. Myself and a colleague owned Purpose Amouage and Encelade has a vibe that made us think of Purpose probably an hour after the opening, however they only share Vetiver and sandalwood as same notes. At the same time it also reminds me of PdM Delina without the Lychee at the opening, perhaps due to the same Rhubarb used, you'll definitely get a vibe of it if u remove the lychee and rose. At first I am wondering and telling myself how do I write about Encelade, it's so different, simple notes, nothing too complicated and yet smells good and special. It may not be a Love but I like it enough. I think I'll probably like it more as I do more wears of it. The notes listed are Rhubarb, Vetiver, Atlas cedarwood, leather, Tonka bean, Australian sandalwood. You'll definitely get the not so tangy rhubarb at the opening, the green soury somewhat soft spicy rhubarb. Its not really that sweet to me as some others say, pleasant sweetness more like it. It's also a little Smoky and also there is this creaminess in it. The leather and woodiness starts to come out after a while and counter balances itself very well sorta in the background. Such a fine composition. The dry earthy Vetiver is also rather strong there adding balance to the prominent rhubarb. Couple of hours later, it quiets down and the tonka is just nice not overly sweet unlike some gourmandy scents and sits along with cedar and sandalwood with the prominent rhubarb already out of the way. Somehow in our local weather here in Singapore, I'm not getting massive projection or really long hours on it. Perhaps I wore and tested this as of now in 2 stages on different sides of the body on purpose over a difference of 4-5hrs but it should last a good 8hrs or so at least, initial projection is pretty good for the first to second hour. On clothes definitely last longer. If you are looking for an unique and special scent composition that isn't too gourmandy sweet, give this a thought seriously, it's scent composition and development is not something most of us will have even if we have a huge collection.

One of my favourite perfumes <3 to me it's very unisex and brings so many emotions to mind. There's the initial sharp, metallic, almost edging on industrial note which grabs your attention. But on my skin its not overly aggressive, there's a softness underneath the edge. I get a distinct, almost gasoline smell at first? But I don't mind it. Then as it dries down the vanilla and rhubarb come out. It's never sweet on me, the vanilla softens the scent and the rhubarb keeps it tangy, but its still metallic and earthy. It's very unique and definitely not for everyone. Then there's the memories this scent evokes in me, which is likely why I like it so much. The gasoline, vanilla and rhubarb notes all dance together, reminding me of summers from my childhood, and really just growing up. Taking road trips with my family and playing in fields and forests. Running past the rhubarb growing outside the broken, cluttered garage filled with unfinished projects, to set the table for dinner. Getting sleepy in the back seat of the sticky hot car as we drove to the lake, pressing my face into the cracked leather seats. Then we get there and all the kids race to the water and let out all the pent up energy, but soon we get tired and walk back to the bench for snacks (usually plain ruffle chips and watermelon), to dry off and read our books. Then we'd grab our nets and buckets and go out to the docks to catch frogs and water snakes, getting covered in mud. I didn't like how slimy their skin was, so I quickly switched from the hunt, to sitting by the small boats and admiring the lily pads. It reminds me of lazy hot summer days filled with cicadas and dragonflies and helping out my dad in the garage. For me it's, metallic, earthy, crisp with the rhubarb, and soft and almost creamy with the sandalwood and vanilla. I wear it when I want to feel androgynous, confident, or just nostalgic. I also love layering it with a vanilla or fruity scent. I know my memory association with this scent skews how much I love it. I can totally understand how off-putting this perfume could be for some people. But it's got a special place in my heart, and I love her :)

For me, Encelade has become something far more personal than just a fragrance. I can imagine wearing it on a quiet evening walk, during a solitary drive with no destination in mind, while trekking through the woods or during a peaceful weekend away from the noise and obligations of everyday life. But if I'm being honest, my favorite way to experience Encelade is at home, completely on my own. Perhaps while watching a football match with a cup of coffee in hand or a few hours before sleep when the world has finally gone silent. Those are the moments when I let it unfold on my skin and simply follow where it leads me. There is something utterly mesmerizing about its green, mineral and earthy character. The opening feels like crushing fresh leaves between your fingers in a remote forest after rainfall, while beneath it lies an almost cosmic aura, as if the scent has been borrowed from another world altogether. It is wild yet elegant, mysterious yet comforting and every time I wear it, I discover a new nuance that I hadn't noticed before. Wearing Encelade doesn't feel like applying perfume. It feels like stepping into a different state of mind, a small personal ceremony, a fragrant escape that slows time and sharpens the senses. This is not an everyday fragrance for me. It is an occasion in itself. A rare indulgence, a moment of reflection and a luxurious retreat reserved for the times when I want to disconnect from the world and reconnect with myself. Overall a 10/10 Masterpiece !

If I had to put a name to this scent, then it would be the one that creeps in through the back door of your chest when you least expect it. You know the story. There is a new boy in your class. You hate him the second his shoe touches the floorboard. You do not know why. It is simply there, this hate, like a splinter under the nail. Everything about him scrapes against you. His voice is too loud. His laugh is a challenge. He is arrogant, cocky, that kind of rebel who wears his leather jacket like armour. The girls swarm around him like moths around a filthy flame, and the other boys suck in their cheeks to be like him. You cannot understand it. You want to look away but you cannot. Then—without a knock, without a warning—something shifts. One morning you see him and your stomach turns upside down. Not in disgust. In butterflies. Your knees go soft, like old rope. The boy who made your blood boil now makes it burn differently. You think of him when you should be learning Latin. You hate yourself for it, but there it is. The old story. From hate to love. As old as the trenches. And this fragrance is exactly that. It does not let you stay neutral. It forces you to take a side. Art should bruise you a little, shouldn't it? This one does. In my discovery set it was the one I dreaded. The one I did not even want on my skin. I let it sit in its little vial like a prisoner. Weeks later—why, I cannot say—I took the risk. Half a spray on the forearm. Just half. And now I am thinking of a full bottle. Oh, this Bisch magic. It got me. Just like that boy. A side note: someone wrote that the scent is like licking a battery and I couldn't agree more!

Encelade is my chosen fragrance for today. Although it is late spring in California, I woke up this morning to severe overcast and rain. I thought that was strange, but I welcome it. In all honesty, this is my favorite type of weather. It also provides me with an opportunity to wear Encelade for the second time in four days! That never happens! Especially when my fragrance collection is now becoming overwhelming. Typically, I wear a fragrance once and I don't pick it up again for at least four months. This is a sign. I absolutely love this fragrance. The most impressive aspect is that it lasts! I mean really lasts. I spray it at 7 AM and the next day at 7 AM it smells like I just sprayed it on. That is a quality that is so difficult to find. It speaks to the quality of character behind the brand. And I find that very attractive. It is much easier to spend my money that way. Combine that with a Beautiful, sweet, green vetiver and a scrumptious rhubarb / tonka bean jam and you have a product finally deserving of its high price. I don't want the overall rating of Encelade to make you weary. I was actually surprised it was below 4.0 after I tried it! My initial reaction was it's almost therapeutic. Upon further research, that was indeed the initial concept. This fragrance was initiated during the coronavirus pandemic. Marc and Quentin wanted to create something that was comforting but also connected to the Earth. As someone who is perpetually stuck in coronavirus mode, I can say this hits the spot.

she's THAT b.tch... this perfume absolutely palpitates; it's a thick burgundy velvet shawl. Deep, and heavy, but smooth and brilliant. And it just never leaves your side. Enticing, provocative without being slutty, somehow unisex though it starts out quite sweet. The rhubofix (maybe. I wonder) and damascones in here don't play, but it's so skillfully formulated that it all converges into a lightly sweetened, hypnotic leather. And wood, if you could sink into it. I close my eyes and imagine I am floating in space, staring at a red giant. Which makes me google the definition of a red giant. And it's quite fitting. from Nasa's website: When a main sequence star less than eight times the Sun’s mass runs out of hydrogen in its core, it starts to collapse because the energy produced by fusion is the only force fighting gravity’s tendency to pull matter together. But squeezing the core also increases its temperature and pressure, so much so that its helium starts to fuse into carbon, which also releases energy. Hydrogen fusion begins moving into the star’s outer layers, causing them to expand. The result is a red giant, which would appear more orange than red. Eventually, the red giant becomes unstable and begins pulsating, periodically expanding and ejecting some of its atmosphere. Eventually, all of its outer layers blow away, creating an expanding cloud of dust and gas called a planetary nebula. The Sun will become a red giant in about 5 billion years.

Blind Buy Diaries # 18. This is what niche is mate. One of the sparingly less fragrances from Quentin Bisch, which does not carry his fabled fav Akigalawood note. Got a chance to acquire a 30 ML bottle alongwith the first ubiquitous release from the house of MAB, B683, at a good price and hence went for it. The chosen name, unlike Ganymede, is a misnomer. Encelade derived from Enceladus refers to one of Saturn's inner satellites, known for its icy, reflective surface, liquid water plumes, and tectonic activity. This here fragrance is unlike that IMHO. Imagine traipsing through the mud and earth in the woods, wearing a leather skin, straight out of the movie Revenant, this is what it smells like. The first spray invites you into a world of Rhubarb and Cedar, glorious and enriching. I haven't smelt rhubarb, except for in Mercedes Benz Club (the silver bottle), where i found it to be more synthetic. The drydown is where the magic happens, vetiver, sandal, tonka and leather. Sweet, woody and earthy. The leather in the base, invokes a bit of Orto Parisi Cuoium as well. All seasonal scent? Suitable for autumn and winter. Unisex? Masculine as can be Blind buy worthy? Not at all, might be unappealing to some, so do sample before buying, especially with the price tag Performance? Longevity, around 9 to 10 hours on skin, and much much longer on clothes, with decent projection and sillage.

Encelade is without a doubt the best release from Marc Antoine Barrois in my opinion, and one of the most addictive fragrances I’ve ever smelled. To put it simply this is a rhubarb and vetiver based fragrance - the sweet, sharp, tangy and juicy nature of the rhubarb pairs beautifully with the green and earthy vetiver to create something truly unique. There’s a hint of sweet woods and tonka bean in the base which intensifies the masculinity in here. I also seem to notice very subtly, the iconic metallic violet leaf base used in Ganymede and B683. This solidifies it as a MAB creation and ties it in beautifully to the rest of the line. Rhubarb is such an underused note in perfumery and it’s been executed perfectly here. The projection and longevity is incredible as usual from this house, it’s such a unique scent profile and will have you smelling yourself constantly. I truly believe this is a masterpiece.

Encelade wasn't love at first smell. It slowly won me over. The first thing that struck me was how much it kept changing. Every time I came back to it, I noticed something different. At one point I realized it reminded me of a greener version of Terroni.. not because they smell the same, but because they share that earthy, textured feeling. Encelade just feels cooler, greener, and lighter on its feet. I also get a smoky quality, but it's never the main event. It's woven into everything else instead of sitting on top. Nothing feels loud or harsh. It just becomes more interesting as the hours pass. Some fragrances make their biggest impression in the first five minutes. Encelade did the opposite. By the end of the day I was reaching for my wrist more than when I first sprayed it. That's usually a good sign.

It was love at first spritz. Encelade captivated me instantly — like stepping into a lush, rain-soaked forest where nature feels alive, raw, and impossibly elegant. It’s an exceptional unisex scent that feels genderless in the most refined way. There's no trace of cliché here — just pure olfactory craftsmanship. Encelade smells like nothing else I own, and I say that as someone with a very curious, growing perfume wardrobe. It’s both grounding and exhilarating. One of my absolute favorites.

Vetiver is definitely part of this perfume but also tonka bean. It has leathery facets and honestly I don’t get much rhubarb tang except maybe for a second. It has some metallic aspects to it so it has a sharpness. I was surprised about the sweetness especially in the dry down. It’s kind of sexy on a man actually. It is nice that this has such impressive longevity. If you spray more than 2 (3 pushing it), it will overwhelm you and you won’t appreciate it as much... tbh I have been getting frustrated with the lack of projection and staying power of other perfumes so this feels like you are getting your money’s worth. I know this could be a wild take but the dry down is a strong tonka bean and reminds me of Guerlain Tonka Extrait.

This scent is something else. In the opening, I get more metallic vibes as in Ganymede / Valaya than leather, rubarb and green notes. As it dries down, the scent transforms into beautiful tonka been, a little bit of Delina sweet rhubarb and alien CEO vibes 🪐🌳❤️🔥 It makes me imagine I am walking through a refinery or a high tech factory in the high high heat, the sun is shining and I can smell the warmed up metal from the clean tanks. I am wearing tonka bean perfume and eating rhubarb. It has boss vibes, I actually own this refinery. 😄 My favorite from the brand and one of my top 3 from my entire collection due to it’s uniqueness. A confidence and energy booster.

Great longevity, impressive projection, beautiful composition and showcase of notes. The rhubard is so unique and the tonka bean creates a not unpleasant, slight, coconut-y (?) scent. Drydown is woody, with some residual rhubarb & tonka sweetness. Edit: as mentioned below, it really is pleasing throughout your entire day's wear. More lovely with each passing hour. I could easily wear summer/fall/winter but probably best suited for cold weather. Both office and home wearability, however I would enjoy more personally at home. Very soothing to me. Got a couple of compliments too :) Thinking seriously about full bottle.

The trick with this one is with the application. Do not spray it like you normally do. A very light application will do the trick - 3 sprays max. And surprisingly, you'll still get a day's worth of longevity and a nice bubble throughout the day. Please be warned, if you overspray you'll likely get a headache. I concur with those who say it reminds them of Nudiflorum. But it's not a clone. They share the same leather accord with Nudiflorum being more floral and this one has the vetiver and rhubarb. I love this scent, and my 100ml bottle will last me forever, so no backup bottle needed.

im surprised that no one is bringing up comparisons to boy smells. although not necessarily listed in the notes, many boy smells perfumes (and candles) share this similar rhubarb + smoky dirty vetiver / leather core DNA that characterizes Encelade. Cashmere Kush, cowboy kush & violet ends in particular share this and are good alternatives (not a dupe/clone) at a much lower pricetag. Additionally, Boy Smells perfumes are more appropriate for everyday wear because Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances are so strong and would choke out your entire workplace or home.

Exceptional projection. Exceptional time frame to last, especially on clothes. Exceptional craft. Encelade is nothing like any other woody, aromatic, and earthy fragrances I've tried. It is a rhubarb and cedar blessing, just like you'd walk through a damp forest after an autumn rain, where you can smell every little bit of the earthiness it has to offer. Don't necessarily feel the rhubarb that much, but in terms of cedar, sandalwood and vetiver... my goodness. Yes, this is a 10/10 and the price tag isn't as hefty. Would 10/10 buy again and again and again.

Nose Note #243 One of the most revolting openings I've smelled. Buckwheat in beer. Not only that, it's bitter, it's minty, it's leathery. Absolute no-no right from the start. It doesn't develop into anything prettier. Stomach turning for sure. I think it's the super dominant vetiver note. It's absolutely unwearable for me UPD after a year: I changed my mind completely. This is amazing and super potent. It's kind of reminding me of Ombre Leather, but fresher, sweeter and with vetiver. 8.6/10, really special, but needs time to acquire taste for it

I have Ganymede and also recently acquired this.....i love it...its sharp at the start but then quickly just radiates beautifully....everytime you move you smell it in the air....its strong so less is more trigger wise and it stays with you for at least 8hrs probably more...on clothes for ever!!!!wearring both these perfumes is not only an experience its a sensation...the electric,metallic,mineral note that people mention in Ganymede you sense it here too...its magical..Hats off to Quentin Bisch these fragrances are incredible.

I have a lot of different perfumes in my collection and honestly I can't stand wearing the same one for more than 3 days. But that was before I bought Encleade. I can wear this thing at least 6 times a week without getting tired of it. It smells like.... you're a celebrity walking down the street and everyone stops you for autographs and you just want to get in your Bentley and go home to your mansion with 3 pools and 5 bathrooms. Great longevity .

This one was a crush at first sniff. Green, green and woody, but also hard to describe. I think that for some, this one can be a bit challenging and special, but for me it was easy, addictive and it gives me great satisfaction. Perfumes have been a hobby for me for several years and it's been a long time since I was surprised, impressed and thrilled by a new composition. I didn't like Ganymede, but this one is really a hit. Bravo Quentin Bisch.

I test it side by side with Nudiflorum, and encelade is on the verge of being a clone of the former. Its the same exact same sour rhubarb accord used in combination with animalic leather, which in the end gives me savory vibes, smells like horseradish on some meat. Nudiflorum in the drydown is floral, this one doesnt change its profile too much. Longevity is great, >12 h. Hard to say its unique, since Nudiflorum is already on the market.

very interesting it is quite forceful right off the bet, I get something leathery and metallic in combination with slightly fruity and sour accord (probably rhubard) drydown takes the edge off it, I get warm sweet tonka bean and aromatic wood I am a woman and I agree that it leans somewhat masculine, but can be pulled off by a confident lady in my view I still smell it on my wrist more than 24 hours later so kudos on longevity

When I first smelled this I hated it. Now revisiting I love it. Ah the world of fragrance collecting🤣 Reminds me of mix between a garage showroom and the workshop. Like Ganymede it’s got a weirdness about it that appeals. Having spent a long time wearing Ganymede I think has opened me up to this one. Not as nuclear but still strong and makes its presence known. Try it before buying because it’s definitely not for everyone.

Bois Imperial kadar pürüzlü değil,bois imperial bir tık daha güçlü ama bir arabaya bindiğimde arkadaşım arabanın balatasının yanıp yanmadığını kontrol etti,ganymede ise joker bir koku bugün ne sıksam diye düşünürken en çok elin gidebileceği nadir kokulardan birisi,percival ve ganymede bana göre hem imza hem de joker kokular o yüzden 4 mevsim de gider,ayriyeten yayılımı çok kuvvetli,biraz da polorizing bir koku.

This to me feels like a more bright TF's F Fabulous, and for me this is a good thing. I know there are not many similarities between these two scents but I just can't help think of it. Great value. Great performance and longevity. Unique. All seasons - Night n day. Playful versatile. It's weird to me how Ganymede overshadows this beautiful scent. Most likely it's the next target for my collection.

Reminds me of drinking apple cider on the crispiest day of the year. This is how an idealized version of a leaf pile smells to me: wood chips and the rise of fruitiness from the rhubarb. The vetiver faded within an hour for me and what's left is cozy, crispy, a beautiful leathery wood that feels like fall. I think I'll purchase the full bottle in September and I can't wait to wrap myself in it.

An absolute savage. The projection is enormous, 1-2 spray more than enough. Long lasting, beast mode fragrance. On clothes goes forever.. The Rhubarb is very nice with some modern, metallic "edge" to it. Instant statement maker. The 30ml bottle good enough as it last for ages, just by how small doses you need from this scent. Very masculine, while elegant and sophisticated. Will buy it again.

I would like to update my review: When I bought Encelade I got so impressed. It's nuclear performance with sweet vetiver and green notes made me so excited. But just after I started using it, I found out that it was tiring me and it came to a point that it became unbearable. I just gifted it to a colleague and zero regrets. Now I understand the low score here) My updated score: 6.5/10

One of the most unique perfumes i have ever smelled. You can actually feel something green burning.. there is a bitter sweetness from rhubarb and tonka. it cpmes a little masculine, but it's totally unisex. Creamy sandalwood is added towards the end. As someone who doesn't like green scented perfumes, it even impressed me.. :) Congratulations Quentin Bisch.

Okey Its like magic Every one want to know your perfume name , actually i didn't tell them hhhh Its abeast mode nothing like this perfum ,except one perfume ill not mention it now. In winter this perfume gives you warm. Its beautiful for outside using Don't spray it if you work in room , it needs opens aerea , dont forget like my comment bro.

Just received this fragrance. Not sure why it has a low rating here on Fragrantica. I understand that this is much different from the mainstream fragrances, but this is quite similar to Vetiver Tonka, which, if I'm not mistaken, has a much higher score. It also somewhat winks at Bal d'Afrique, which also has a higher score. I'm confused...

Another masterpiece. The staying power is insane, good projection, the quality is mwah. Now about the smell... I like it a lot! But if you dislike the rhubarb accord or vetiver, avoid this, because it’s very potent and you get whiffs all day, it’s gonna bother you. One of the best minimalist niche scent, unique, strong, masculine imo.

This stuff is really good. The rhubarb and woody smell is addictive. The staying power is immense. I’ve gotten several compliments on this fragrance, and it lasts all day long. Really could be my “signature sent” , it’s that good. I can’t wait for them to come out with the “extract version” (just hope they don’t screw it up)

Нефруктовий і не солодкий родич Narcosis від Vertus. Той же гучний ревінь на старті, неймовірний аромат. Не можу назвати Енчеладе деревним ароматом, принаймні не в тому розумінні, яке зразу уявляється. Дуже цікаво, хочеться внюхуватись у нього постійно. Стійкість грандіозна, одного пшику досить, щоб кайфувати цілий день.

First sniff from it , when I was unaware of the notes, my reaction was - "oh, tons of wood". I don`t see it as unisex. IMO, it is a straight vetiver/sandalwood masculine scent with sweet touches, just to add balance. Staying power is extreme, projection is loud for the first 5h. MAB is getting more and more love from me.

I just got an inspiration of this and fuckin hell im impressed by the rhubarb note mind you this is a recreation of people that just happen to be in the business they know dog shit about fragrances I think I’m gonna save up for the big bottle of the original 205€~100ml nearby me. Won’t care this’ll work all year round.

I got tons of Niche beast mode fragrances but this one can choke people in a circumference of three meters ,so unique but hard to wear at any occasions even if u spray 1or2 spray on your clothes you will choke first yourself then others so not safe for blind buy but worth having in collection ❗️m

I was lucky enough to try it last week. To me it's a lot like Irish Leather with a teeny bit of BR540 in it. (I got to try one spray and one spray only) You can check my channel Smelly Cat on YT where it's done a little cameo in my last video. One spray lasted me ALL DAY LONG and projected too.

I didn’t think this was going to be that much of a luxurious sweet smell, it smells like being in a woody cabin with a view of nothing but pine trees while you’re wrapped up in your sweet smelling blanket outside in a cold night It reminds me so much of a night i’d want to remember

This is stunning. Like someone else said, it does remind me a lot of Interlude (and Overture) but not as heavy or smoky; a much airier and ethereal version. Either way, it's such a unique, addictive, and expensive-smelling scent and I really don't understand the hate for this one.

my signature fragrance, it is a masterpiece and a beast!! 2 sprays, and it lasts the whole day, even the day after. Beautiful smell, unique, elegant, sophisticated, deep, earthy, mature, sexy and mysterious. it is the only one I am obsessed with among my 30+ perfume collection.

This scent blew me away! Nothing I tried compares to this, definitely a unique scent. It might be a little sweet for my taste, but i will wear it anyway just because of this amazing woody notes. To me it also smells like Morning Chess on steroids. Definitely recommend to try

I get absolutely 0 rhubarb. But such a light, fresh woodiness that could work year round. Projection is maybe a bit much for work, especially as it is apparently polarizing. I've usually lean towards low projection scents but this has gotten me lots of compliments by 9am.

I finally decided to buy it, it might not be a perfume that everyone can choice and that's the best part about it. loved the complexity the weirdness that can get you in a different state of mind. its a masterpiece and a good one to start Fall with. over all 8.5/10

delectableeeeee deep and enveloping, leathery peppery fruitiness. Actually had me throwing my eyes back when first smelling it lol It's potent, one spritz per wrist wafted in all directions for hours, and it's still a nice bittersweet skin scent 14 hours later.

I love this perfume! Smells very unique! The performance is excellent. I don't know why has low rating ,because the perfume deserve more points....Perfect scent for all seasons, just in the summer is better for the night out.
