Ganymede Extrait

Just out of sheerest curiosity, I spilled AN ENTIRE VIAL of the Éxtraît, drooling the oil onto the back of my hand, without rubbing it in (about 15-20 applications?), in an effort to better understand how this mysterious scent works. What I perceive is that there is indeed a subtle musk afoot in this scent, an animalic quality not unlike cow's milk (cafe au lait?) or slightly soured milk (as we know, that nuance is part of what makes a Hershey's bar so unique, some would say fetid). But it is quickly blended with the saffron ("hospital gauze") and immortelle (agrestic "maple syrup") qualities. But that quasi-musk is a masterstroke: It prevents the inorganic qualities from ever seeming inhuman or unwearably alien. There is also, mid-development, a quasi-culinary "aromatic" note, perfectly pleasant, which, I swear ta gawd, is "bulbous", not unlike onion, chive or garlic. Asafoetida? Black cumin? Sometimes even lilies can possess this bulb nuance of the onion-y. Granted, it's subliminal, but there exists this curious "savory/foody" hint, not-unlike charred meat? (probably a wizardry delicately woven from Siberian birchtar molecule) , counterbalancing immortelle's sweetness, which, you have to think, Quentin Bisch knew would make the scent delicately welcome at any dinner party. This is the sort of mental calculus only a genius perfumer labors cannily to invoke. Yet it, too, disappears-- evanesces or melts-- with time on warm skin. Then, there is a ghosted smell here like carwash detergent-- creamy pink and yellow, I envision it synaesthetically, faux-floral, "spring rain", which I'm taking to be GANYMEDE's violet and osmanthus components. It's ultra-subtle in far-drydown, as it should be; there just enough to imbue the scent with an amusing "industrial" quality: shampoo for your robot girlfriend's nylon hair, haha. Bisch is a kid who evidently learned plenty from his childhood chemistry set, haha, for GANYMEDE is a masterpiece of abstract chemical blending, in the very best way; if a perfumer can blend *this*, then he can do anything.

Extreme wood, spice, and radioactive immortelle ☢️ magnetic and addictive -- I can't help but smell this masterpiece over and over from my arm. Definitely a creation where your skin is instrumental in developing this the way it's intended. Although not officially listed I do sense the minerals present in the original, as well as a whisper of perhaps mimosa flower? The juicy aroma of orange elevates the dichotomy of savory and leathery accords to cosmic heights, which makes Ganymede a befitting name, since "Ganymede" is also the name of Jupiter's largest moon. I'm pondering the idea of layering with Diptyque Eau Des Sens (orange blossom, bitter orange, angelica, patchouli) to feminize a bit and elevate even higher (if that's possible!), but mostly out of my own morbid curiosity, at a 2:1 GE:EDS ratio. *Edit* tried it! It wasn't "feminized" by much, but it did add a slight dimension. Why mess with perfection? I just like an excuse to experiment. 🧪🤓 Truly an artful and "wow!" factor formula- but make sure to sample via decant before going all in- as it is rather pricey and I can see how this scent could be polarizing. In closing, every true and appreciative frag head needs to experience this! Editing to remark that this is my 100th review, and there couldn't have been a better fragrance to represent the milestone 🙌🏻🎉 💫🌠⭐🌟✨🎇💥

Ganymede Extrait opening absolutely blew me away. It is a gorgeous blast of herbal notes, with a nice oud background. There is also a sweetness vinger like note in here that reminds me of cooking and balsamic vinegar. As it dries down this all combines into a note that reminds me almost of BBQ. The more it dries down the more my brain just can’t stop going, smokey sweet BBQ. Performance wise Ganymede Extrait is an absolutely power house. I got just under 12 hours of wear on my skin and about the same on my clothes. An 8/10 here. Projection wise, for the first 6 hours Ganymede Extrait projected strongly off my skin. Radiating within feet of me definitely, the smell was just present for me wherever I was. For the next 6 hours it faded to more of a skin scent but I still could pick it up if I got my nose close to my skin. A 8/10 here as well. Ganymede Extrait is a gorgeous smelling scent with amazing longevity and projection. That said I’m not sure I like it as a fragrance, I’m just not sure I want to smell like smokey sweet BBQ all day long most days. I feel like this is a very situational fragrance; so it’s a 6/10 overall for me.

Apparently I am from the minority this time, I tried this one and the OG one at a store and even took some samples with me in order to properly test them. Well, after my first wear of the extrait I was quite impressed and I couldn’t stop smelling myself as I was surrounded by this amazing scent bubble (it does smell quite spicy in the beginning). Few days after that I decided to wear the og Ganymede, first spray and I can see some similarities with the Extrait but 40 minutes into it and it already feels quite weak and airy, I don’t know about this “insane performance” y’all are getting but the sample I had isn’t that strong tbh. Ganymede was a little bit too boring and weak, kinda reminded me of YSL Tuxedo or The Tux. To conclude, I really enjoyed the Extrait version way more and I felt something there whereas Ganymede OG just didn’t give me that and I would consider it overhyped. I will probably buy a full bottle from the Extrait version as I keep on sniffing the little sample like an addict. ++I have tried 2 sprays from the Extrait in 23C• and it’s soo goood, can see it as an all year rounder.

I’ve always been a big fan of Ganymede, I love it in fact, there’s something so undeniably addictive about it. With Ganymede Extrait I was hoping for a similar situation as B683 Extrait - an improvement elevated beyond imagination. Instead, I’m left with what is basically just the same old Ganymede with a slightly spicy twist. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t make it a bad fragrance - as I said I adore Ganymede, and so the fact that this retains the exact same core scent profile means it smells absolutely incredible. The only difference to my nose is that very subtle warm spicy, incense-y touch which is lovely, but not all that impressive - as B683 Extrait took on an almost entirely new scent profile. Overall, I think this is a fantastic smell, which is why I’ve rated it as a love because I truly have loved wearing my sample. But for the difference in price? You might as well save yourself a good chunk of money and just get the original Ganymede.

I absolutely LOVE B683 Extrait, so of course I was very excited to finally try Ganymede Extrait. I had envisioned that same oud in B683 Extrait to be carried over to the Ganymede version, but sadly it did not. Instead of that wonderful oud, it has been replaced by an extremely smoky accord. I liken it to spraying the normal Ganymede on your shirt, then spend an evening around a campfire and smell your shirt the next morning, that's how this smells. I must admit, I'm not particularly fond of smoky fragrances *yet*, but I really do like Ganymede Extrait and see myself loving it more and more with each application. However, I did receive a rare compliment. Someone walked into the room I was in and stopped in their tracks and said "Oh wow! What is that smell? I really like that" and that came from someone who hardly ever makes any comment on the multitude of different fragrances I wear... So the sillage to a random passerby must be quite appealing

I adore this Éxtrait, And apply it as a layer with the GANYMEDE EDP. The Éxtrait is all the ideas of the EDP, but cranked to 11. Especially surprising and delightful is that unexpectedly sweet accord of immortelle/foenugreek, which provides a fascinating counterpoint to the mineral/metal qualities. (I just wish the Éxtrait weren't so incredibly expensive: $400 for 30ml ?) The sweetness quickly subsides, though, and even though this Éxtrait is labeled a "spicy oriental", the drydown of the Éxtrait is by no means sweet and vanillic or laden with benzoin and labdanum: the "moon-rock" qualities eventually claim the upper hand and subsume the syrupy sweetness of the immortelle/foenugreek. I do believe one is meant to spray on the Éxtrait... then let it melt and blend into your natural body heat and smell for several hours. THAT'S when it will smell gorgeous and not like a curry. GANYMEDE is a fascinating, rare and edgy perfume that I adore.

The latest release from Marc-Antoine Barrois is Ganymede Extrait, the follow-up the award-winning 2019 release Ganymede (EDP). Like the change from B683 EDP to Extrait, the “change” from Ganymede EDP to Extrait involves a predictable increase in density but also a similar boost in sweetness and resins, at least to my nose. But its balance is overall fairly similar to the EDP, just intensified in a few key ways. It’s still essentially a sort of dry, semi-sweet, resinous blend of citruses/florals/woods, and like the EDP, done with excellently delicate taste. At $380 for 50ml (sold at great boutiques like Perfumology), it’s quite pricey, the priciest of the line so far by a good margin, so I’d say that only those that love it should even consider buying a bottle, but that said, I think it’s a superb fragrance in terms of innovation, utility, performance, and (with the exception of the EDP) uniqueness. 8 out of 10

This fragrance ages very well in the bottle. My current bottle is about 4 months old. At first, I was not too crazy about it; the opening overpowered with the incense myrrh, but as this has aged a bit, it has improved tremendously. The opening is not so intense, and it’s mellowed and blended. The mandarin is coming through way more now, the incense and myrrh are still very present but not as slap you in the nostrils as when it was new. Much more balanced now and very much like the original, just even more staying power and strength overall, if that's possible. Very much a thicker, more dense version of the EDP, which is to be expected as an extrait. It has become a new favorite after it’s aged a bit. If you have a bottle that you haven't worn in a while, try it again if you were unsure prior due to the intense opening.

For me, Ganymede Extrait is the definition of olfactory perfection. After owning more than 500 niche fragrances, this is the one that stands above all the others as my absolute favorite. Everything about it feels flawless on my skin: the composition, the texture, the projection, the aura it creates around me. It has this magnetic, futuristic elegance that somehow feels both unique and incredibly natural at the same time. Most importantly, it’s the fragrance that gets me the most reactions by far. Women constantly compliment me when I wear it — sometimes even stopping me just to ask what I’m wearing. Very few perfumes manage to create that kind of impact, but Ganymede Extrait does it effortlessly. To me, this isn’t just a great fragrance. It’s the closest thing to a perfect scent I have ever experienced.

Who didn't like Ganymede for known reasons at least should try extrait. "Problematic" note is reduced to the minimum while Akigalawood,leather and incense are pumped up. From new bottle extrait is dark version of OG but in time it will open up a and get a little of freshness needed from mandarin. Had a chance to get a sample from perfumery where bottle have been opened for months and difference is obvious. Layering Ganymede over extrait wow! Nuclear fusion! Yeah it's very pricey for Ganymede booster :) Don't mind 3.59 grade. It's all about Quentin haters.The same will happen with Amouage Purpose as soon they find out it's made by Quentin.

If bois imperial is the youthful ganymede, then this is the slightly older, slightly more formal version of ganymede. You can definitely smell the original ganymede DNA, this one is just a bit darker, like you would expect a modern ‘extrait’ to be. Performance is similiar. I slightly prefer the EDP but I still very much enjoy this one as well and will be buying a bottle. Was worried about the myrhh/incense being overpowering as i dont usually like fragrances that are all about myrrh but this one is as well balanced as any other of Bisch’s works. Even though this isnt quite as good as the original, its still a masterpiece.

Okay, this opens with tons of spices (dark curry, smoked pastrami). The spices initially make you think that this is a totally different fragrance than the original DNA, but after 20-30 minutes the spices begin to subside and you start recognizing the original DNA. This time it’s not a fresh DNA, but viscous and concentrated, almost like if Amouage had created Ganymede. An apt comparison would be the original Sauvage and Sauvage Elixir, there is a hint of the EDT in the Elixir, but they are very different and work in different ways. I prefer the original Ganymede, so if you have it, you are not missing much.

Dark,very smoky woody resin fragrance. That specific note Ganymede is known is reduced to a minimum. First it's very smoky,some may not like it at all but during time mandarine comes out and give it a little of freshness that make fragrance totally wearable. That hint of mandarine makes wonders. Perfect amount of difference! I'm not in compliment segment and stuff but no man or a woman who didn't ask me what's that beautiful smell. Scent 9/10 Power 9.5/10 Price 5/10 Bottle design,sprayer 10/10

Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede Extrait (2023) - smoky minerals - #quentinbisch creates quite a different perfume from the original. Leather, smoke, rocks and dark resins permeate this creation. Saffron, caramel-like Immortelle and red berrries are more prominent in its heart. White musks, Akigalawood amidst a modern chypre structure create its ethereal quality and omnipresent sillage. Big, complex and unique.

An update after wearing this for a month. My signature scent is the OG Ganymede and as much as I tried to love this, I just don’t feel the same way about this as I do about the OG. The issue is that the beautiful balance that is present in the OG is totally disrupted here. Instead the immortelle overload creates a very strong curry like impression that just goes on forever, it drowns out everything else.

To me this takes the best parts of Ganymede, turns it up to the max, and ignores the rest. I definitely like it more than the original, but it's 1.5 of the price... at 1/2 the quantity. It's insane to ask 3x times as much as the original, which is also pretty expensive. If money were no object, I would choose this, otherwise, the OG Ganymede is already a fantastic fragrance with great performance.

I do like this one slightly better than the original. I like the richer woodier aspect of it. Very close though. I have received good feedback from those around me while wearing this. This is not a projection beast but a sillage monster. It lasted quite a while on my skin, so performance is not an issue here. Very nice! 😁

This took me back to the beginning of the 90's when everyone used Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent and Lapidus Pour Homme by Ted Lapidus. This is super smoky, super unique, and very spicy. you must smell it before you get it. It's heavy and very '90s throwback Immortelle and Myrrh were super popular in the 80s and 90s!

This scent feels like standing on a hot, rocky planet. It opens sharp with incense and mandarin, then softens into a warm mix of spice, sweet immortelle, and smoky woods. It’s bold, strange in a good way, and leaves a strong impression. But between the two, I much prefer the original Ganymede.
