Parfume d’Extase

Some smell iris, some smell jasmine, some love it, others hate it, some love the bottle, some hate the bottle. How's a person to decide if they should blind buy it!? Let me add to the confusion! I saw three sizes on a shelf. 1 oz, 1.7 oz, and 3.4 oz. I'm a me me me selfish person. I grabbed the largest one! Then guilt struck me. I don't NEED the biggest bottle...I have hundreds for crying out loud! I will never even USE that much. I placed it back and took the medium bottle, I mean five bucks is five bucks RIGHT? I LOVE THIS! I'm so SICK and tired of trying to be a good person! I should have been the original ME....and gotten that HUGE bottle. LOVE this! To my nose, this smells very similar to Balenciaga L'essence, only much better. This smells similar to our own famous founders Swan Princess, but doesn't last quite so long. Some say it does on clothing...which I will try. I didn't think violet leaf smelled like violet before, but it certainly seems to NOW. This is a most lovely violet to my nose. No jasmine, no iris, I don't even get a musk....pure violet....ahem...PERfect violet. It's real scent took me back to 5-7 years old, sitting in our back yard picking oodles of little purple flowers. This scent means a lot to me because of that, and what I smell. The bottle, I don't care for. The design could only be lovely to me if they used a quality crystal, diamonds, and sterling silver. Of course that would not sell to eighty percent of the population but, THEN it would be stunning. As it is, I think the bottle could have looked that expensive with a different design. Simply put...it looks very impressive in the photos, but not so much in your hand. I'm sad this is discontinued? It's going to hold a place in my heart. Forever, the memory of not purchasing the largest bottle will haunt me. I'm still a greedy little girl and I can whine for hours. or years, as this medium size bottle will torment me for a long time! Seriously, this is a lovely perfume and bottle for anyone. I totally see it as a brides perfume also. Those who have large bottles, I will grumble in passing! When it doubt, and this is your warning, buy BIG! ***INFO*** Got the large bottle also last night! JOY!

Wow...Body chemistry is a funny thing!!! First of all love Marchesa gowns and I have to give props to their marketing and advertising department. When this first came out I was reading a mag when I came across that gorgeous ad with the woman laying down wearing that stunning violet gown that is meant to look like a blooming iris. That ad is what drew me in to Sephora in the first place to try this perfume. The bottle with all the little diamonds is gorgeous. Even the box is beautiful...like a beautiful jeweled little present!! I bought a 50 ml immediately. This has all the things I love. Iris, violet, freesia, jasmine, orris root, musk and most importantly...NO PATCH!!! The iris here is gorgeous, soft & powdery. This scent is bone dry and powdery with a bit of sweetness from the freesia. But where others are getting a total freesia overload I am happy to say I am not. The jasmine is really very lovely and the longer I wear this perfume the more I love it. It lasts for hours on me. Call this boring. Call this cheap...Call this inoffensive...All I know is that I love the way this perfume makes me feel. This scent is gorgeous, elegant and sophisticated. I love a well done pretty floral and this is all that and more!!! I have so many different full bottles that I rarely finish one and I have already finished my 50 ml, a 100 ml and half a bottle of the hair mist.

When I first saw this at Sephora, I thought it would be another over-the-top, indulgent, heavy fruits-and-vanilla-with-a-base-of-musk kind of fragrance that I would rather be without. I was pleasantly surprised. It was nothing of the sort.It smelled strongly of orris root/iris at first (I'm ok with this scent, don't love it but don't hate it either). Then the scent changes to a bit greener note as the violet leaf edged in, but the iris scent remained. About 40 seconds later the freesia and jasmine come in to create a dewy, rain-on-irises kind of smell. This scent seems to linger for me. Simply put, I love it! It's elegant, clear, and mid-voiced. Kind of like a lady lawyer in her office-- you see her and you respect her, even if she says nothing her presence is there. This scent is good for office or evening formal. By the way, I have a "warm" undertone to my skin...it reacts strongly to any vanilla, sugary, and amber notes in perfumes. Any of these notes become extremely accented on me, so it becomes too sweet and cloying. I tend to avoid these perfumes, so glad D'extase doesn't have any of this.

Despite the notes listed, this fragrance was always more violets than iris for me. In fact, Parfume d’Extase is the fragrance that made me fall in love with violet, and I was sad when it was discontinued. I still have a bit left but I don’t spray it often because I don’t want to run out of those last precious drops anytime soon. I loved wearing this most in the fall because it smells like a rich purple. It’s not a typical frilly floral in the sense that it isn’t powdery, nor does it rely on an amber base to give it body — these violets have a substance all their own. They are a bit woody, a little cold, and in some moments this scent is *almost* (but not quite!) medicinal. They are not candied violets, though the freesia seems to lend some sweetness. This fragrance feels contemplative, modern, and intriguing. It’s simultaneously light and dark. I recently received a sample vial of Dusita Splendiris with a perfume order and to my happy surprise, it reminds me a lot of Parfume d’Extase. If you love and miss Parfume d’Extase, give it a try.

For me, this fragrance is all about the freesia. It stands out the most to my nose and I really don't get any powdery iris until the dry down a few hours later. This scent is very beautiful. It is light, airy and fresh with a touch of soapiness. I have to disagree with those who say it is nothing special but that's just me. I get strong freesia for a good 4-5 hours and then the scent significantly softens and leaves a light powder that whafts when you move. The dry down is very soft which is why some may say it only lasts a few hours but it smells so good! I too got 100ml for $7, best deal of my life and so happy to add the gorgeous bottle to my collection. And I think Inventress nailed it with her review.

This is my current favorite scent! Warm and delicious without being too sweet. I'm not too familiar with notes yet as I'm a fragrance newbie, but I think the violet is what I like best. Unfortunately it only lasts for 2 to 3 hours, and stays very close to the skin. So it's mostly for personal enjoyment, rather than for others to smell. I love to put it on right before bed though, because it's so comforting. I have the travel duo (a mini .25 fl oz bottle, and a .5 lf oz vial to refill that. It comes with a handy funnel). But I am highly considering buying the full size in the future. Unfortunately I think the bottle is kind of ugly with all the rhinestones. But that's just me!

I've never been a huge fan of florals, but this is turning me into one, it's got a serious spell on me! Youthful, floral, sparkling. This is clean and zingy, but veiled in honey. It's very sprightly. I can picture this on most women - demure, casual, professional, sexy, it will work with you. Classic but refreshing. This is endlessly clean, nothing stuffy, but with a soft pink hue to it. No powder, no musk, just a beautiful fresh meadow. I've been in love with this since it came out. Can't see and end to my obsession. Give her a try, she'll like you too!

I bought this the DAY my local Sephora got it, last year. This is stunningly beautiful. The bottle design is incredibly elegant, and just as sparkling and elegant as the fragrance itself. On my skin, it's straight up Iris, Freesia, and Violet Leaf, curbed with a bit of sugary jasmine. Freesias are my favorite flowers, and I've grown irises since I could lift a watering can, so this fragrance is both very nostalgic and very significant to my nose. It's powdery, fresh, FLORAL, with a clean soapy sparkle to it.

The aquatic notes definitely come throguh on me. I love the projection I got from this fragrance as well. I had many mini bottles of this which are absolutely gorgeous. I am a try gourmand lover, so this was out of my normal scope. It immediately grew on me. It wore very well in the winter air and in the evening. It never smelled mature to me, I’m shocked now that I am reviewing the notes because I had no idea really.

Love this! Floral all the way. I find it very soothing and pleasing to my inner spirit for the love of beautiful flowers and beautiful containers. The bottle is absolutely a piece of art in itself. I am so pleased the fragrance fits such a lovely bottle. I have been buying a lot of after Christmas specials lately and some of them are unique. This is a keeper for sure.

Just got a sample bottle of this from training with my company. Fabulous! I am a HUGE fan of violet since it does remind me of my great grandmother. However, this is NOT your grandmother's scent! Unless of course your grandmother is a sophisticated modern woman. I am in love with this! Looking forward to seeing the kind of followers it has after the launch.

What a beautiful bottle! This may be my only true floral powdery perfume but also the one I use quite often. I generally dislike powdery perfumes but I'm guessing the Iris or violet cuts the powderiness of this scent that I enjoy it and not get headaches from it. It smells floral but clean floral, not sweet floral. Wish it would have longer longevity.

As I love Marchesa's gowns, I bought the fragrance blind at Marshall's. Great price, and I simply love it. It comes on strong at first with lots of violet and iris and, perhaps, lily. It takes a while to calm down, but when it does, it becomes elegant and subtle with warm florals. Overall, it smells rich but approachable.

This is a clean floral with a soapy but elegant drydown. Great for work and would also be perfect for a wine tasting with dinner. Marchesa somehow achieves a'powdery freshness' that works as well with food as it does with crowded rooms. Impressively present without shouting. Love it.

I just bought the rollerball a few hours ago, and now I'm back to Sephora to buy the big bottle!!! Very floral but soft. This smell has real staying power on me. Can't stop sniffing myself. ;)

Mysterious, sophisticated, clean, soft , familiar, but so different. Simply beautiful, a new take on a floral with a very slight aquatic undertone, probably the lotus. Well done!

I have extensive iris gardens surrounding my house and this perfume makes me feel like I've stepped outside in spring. Not a huge fan of florals, but I really love this one.

I was at Sephora a few days ago, sniffing a whole bunch of scents that I had wanted to try. I saw the Marchesa bottle, and I thought it was just so pretty, that I thought the juice inside would be way too frilly, or sweet or fruity. I spritzed a little on a tester strip, and it wasn't too bad. Then I spritzed a little on my hand. It was actually quite nice! A pretty floral, I thought, very decent. I continued to sniff my way through other bottles. As I was checking out, the salesgirl slipped a sample of the Marchesa into my bag, since I guess she had seen me do a double-take of this one. A little while later, walking through the mall, I kept smelling a really pretty smell, but since I had sprayed a few different smells on my hands, arms and wrists, I wasn't sure which smell it was that I was enjoying. When I got home, I discovered the Marchesa sample. I washed all the other smells off of me, and I tried the Marchesa sample again. The opening is nice- a really decent floral. But it's the drydown that really does it for me. Absolutely beautiful. I'm definitely a floral girl, but I'm also very picky about my florals. They can't be too sweet, or fruity, or cheap smelling. With this Parfum D'Extase, the freesia and jasmine blend together exquisitely with the softest hint of musk at the end to bring it all together. It is light, airy, and so, so soft and pretty. I don't find it powdery at all. As far as florals go, I find this one very unique. I bought a travel size, and I'm going to wear it for a few days and see if I love it enough to take the plunge and buy a big bottle. Yes, the price is high, but I find the smell to be special enough, and the bottle pretty enough to justify the cost.

Okay, so the bottle is pretty, but what is the elixir like? Well, having no shortage of fragrances, and from about all lines, going from gourmand to floral, I would like to put my two cents in for that is worth. I picked up 3 sample bottles from Sephora as my choice for points added up, because I am a perfume-aholic. I waited to try this because I sprayed Balenciaga Paris on "all over" me as I bought a bottle of Flowerbomb, lol. Okay, so I tried it today, and it is pretty much floral as everyone describes. I would say if you are a real perfume connoisseur this is not going to give you orgasmic emotions. It's pretty plain, straight up. I would see a young girl who is just getting into her 20's wearing this. I've been around in the 70's, so I've been through my grandmother's perfume's the old musks and civets used back then, and the Charlie and all those, back in the day when IFRA didn't dumb fragrance down. So, to me this is a light pretty floral that mellows a bit and gets a bit creamier. Stays close to the body. It's not offensive to me, but I could see it being to others if used with a powerful hand. I would not purchase this, and I will give these cute little bottles away. In one word "boring". I am going back to buy that bottle Balenciaga Paris, because it turned into a beautiful screen idol walking right off the screen into real life! Say that starlet who had violet eyes! But this one, while it dwells in a pretty bottle, she is Mommie Dearest, and we want to leave her on the screen. Savvy....

I wrote review on this long time ago but I never actually bought it. The other day I saw it at TJ Maxx for $20 for 3.4 oz and its clearly a steal. So home with me it went. Here is my only issue with this scent. I LOVE top notes-if it stayed that way I would be one happy woman. Its the most gorgeous freesia and iris scent that is fresh and classy and elegant and everything you can possibly want in perfume. But sadly after short time it does mellow out in much more subtle floral that is kind of "common". It still smells nice, don't get me wrong but its not AS fantastic as top notes. I still like it. To me it oozes CLASS. Bottle is gorgeous so if you can find it and you like floral, get it. Sephora doesn't sell it anymore and I really have hard time understanding why since Daisy by MJ is so popular but it smells like hay to me but this gorgeous scent is not even there. Oh well PS one of the posters said it smells like JLo Glow-not to my nose as I find Glow super clean smelling and really not floral but this is while has some clean notes, is more musky and very elegant

My hairstylist actually told me about this-he asked me if I tried it yet(he is into perfumes) and when I said no, he told me it kind of smelled like MK but more sophisticated. So when I was near Sephora, I hightailed it over, admired beautiful bottle and spritzed a bit on my hand. No, it doesn't smell like MK at all-this is delicate elegant and yes sophisticated floral. It smells the same from start to finish. I get iris and freesia mostly with just a hint of jasmine and musk at the end. For some reason, I picture weddings because I think this scent is perfect for that. On the same note, this is perfect scent for work as it is very light and unoffensive. It lays very close to the skin and doesn't project well. considering that I live in the tropics where humidity is usually 85-90 % almost year around, you would think that it would amplify this scent a little but it doesn't. Discreet, elegant, expensive smelling-if those are the things you are looking for in a scent, this one is for you

A beautiful bottle for a beautiful scent. You can smell all flowers noted here but I agree freesia has a bit of an edge. It does smell slightly like a fancy soap later on but it's certainly one of those soaps you can't take your nose away from. I can't drool enough over the bottle. If you love diamonds you will enjoy the sparkle of this little gem. But the scent is key now isn't it? This perfume takes me through my mind to one garden I wish I could visit. The lush incredible garden of Tasha Tudor, if your familiar. I would wander through her iris and peony, past every incredible path that she has to her water lily filled pond where I would sit at its edge and fully absorb the quiet beauty of this place. Marchesa, I think, would be an amazing choice for this experience. At peace with the garden that surrounds me, not competing with, but enhancing the smells around. I can see where some would not appreciate it, but it is a new favorite of mine.

Parfum d'Extase is kind of like half a fragrance. It smells good, but you keep waiting for the heart, of which there is none. I can only smell the top notes and the drydown. It starts with a battle between violet, iris and jasmine, with violet clearly winning out. Just as you think this fragrance is going to be nothing but violets, it vanishes for an hour or two, only to return as the most exquisite jasmine-rich, clean, soapy (this must be the iris/orris) musk this side of Jennifer Aniston. And there it remains until it vanishes altogether. I do wish this fragrance had a bit more "oomph" and didn't disappear in the middle, but it's still worth buying if you like the idea of violets, iris and musk. It's a cool and clean fragrance -- very sheer and transparent -- and great to wear on a hot summer day. It's like going to bed on crisp, clean sheets in a room chilly from air conditioning.

I remember testing this out a while back when it first came out, && if I could remember I guess I didn't care for it much then...just recently I revisited it while @ Sephora I spritzed the tester strip let it settle a bit && sniffed && OMFG!! I couldn't stop smelling the strip this was so beautiful soft powdery iris && violet scent which had me thinking was my first testing of this brief...b/c powdery scents && scents with violet I'm all for...so I got a sample of this && went through my whole sample :( now I need a bottle, when I wore this I just felt so happy yes it actually made me happy any scent that has that effect on me is a must buy, so hopefully soon I will own this, && the bottle is beautiful to have in any collection longevity && sillage on skin are fairy decent, spray it on your clothes it lasts all day, next on buy list. :) Overall: 9/10

This is a marvelous bouquet of cold, fresh flowers being brought in from a florist in the middle of winter. No citrus, but it doesn't need it. It is elegant, sparkling like freshly fallen snow, beautiful. I have to say I wear this when I want to feel classically beautiful and professional, and clean. I can really smell the freesia flowers and jasmine. The iris is dry. Not at all the same type of iris you get with Prada Infusion D'iris, but drier, and its crispness is invigorating. The comparison to the "nieges" fragrance are interesting, I want to smell that! If you are not a floral person, stay away. This is one that I would imagine the Swan Queen to wear in Swan Lake. But it is also a scent that could be worn by many women, regardless of age or occupation. I am more introverted and feel it suits my personality well.

My daughter bought this for me for Christmas. I've never heard of this perfume nor of this designer! The bottle is gorgeous! I love floral scents..anything with freesia, magnolia, jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, ylang, etc. I have NO idea what orris root is or what it smells like, and frankly most irises I've smelled had zero scent, so all I am picking up in this frag is the jasmine and the freesia, which is fine because I love 'em. The drydown seems a bit warmer, less flowery and more soapy. I sprayed some on my clohtes and I could smell the soapy smell days afterwards and I couldn't stop myself from sniffing..it was so pleasant! A lovely not too ''out there'' fragrance that won't offend. I really like it.

To my nose, this smells like a if Chanel had a violet scented Chanel #5 flanker. For violet scents, I prefer to go to Fragonard's Violette, it's more photo realistic. This scent is clean, violet soapy vibe. Fortunately, it's not heavy on the dusty accord which is a problem with most violet scents. The violet dances with the musk and jasmine, it's inoffensive. The scent sticks close to the skin. The silage isn't strong, remains a skin scent 4 hours plus. If you're a fan of violets without the dusty accord, this is for you. The violet isn't a 'candied' violet, it's more savory. Pleasant, cheerful, friendly, great for the spring.

OMG I just figured out what this perfume reminds me of! I use Loreal Feria Platinum hair color to dye my hair and this perfume reminds me of the purple anti brass conditioner that comes with it I always thought the conditioner stuff smelled so good I would think to myself while conditioning my hair "hmm this smells really good I wonder if there's a perfume that smells like this" well here it is! Just a beautiful clean/fresh floral scent! Also there are probably lot of hair products that have this kind of scent. So I guess you could say this fragrance smells like a shampoo/hair product but a very good smelling one :)

Lets me start off by saying, advertising works! I watch project runway and under the gunn and Georgina Chapman was advertising this perfume on them and it made me want to buy it! You cannot get it in Australia so i had to get it from America Even though it is very floral which is not what i normally like, i love this! Of course i will have to be in the right situation and mood to wear it. It is a beautiful soft powdery floral, and is very inoffensive too. I agree with whoever said it is perfect as a wedding perfume! I can definitely imagine a bride wearing this!

Although there is no "wow factor" to Marchesa it's a nice fragrance that would probably appeal to even those who claim to hate perfume. It's cool, clean and fresh. I mostly smell freesia & violet leaf grounded in clean musk and orris root. Clean powder, not makeup/lipstick powder. Nicest of all there is no bizarre peppery acetone note from the freesia. Instead it's crisp & green. It "smells like perfume" in this sense that it's quite floral and doesn't particularly recall anything that occurs in nature, but it's not "perfumey", if you catch my drift.

I wasn't sure I liked this when I first tried it, as I normally go for darker/spicy, fruitier or more unique perfumes. But this is such an incredibly beautiful scent, I find myself reaching for it more and more. Although it says something about "dark sensuality" in the description on Sephora, please know there is nothing dark about this scent. It's a classy, floral and clean sort of sensuality, very sweet, powdery and feminine, not dark or mysterious in any way. But still incredibly lovely. And the bottle is beautiful!

If only the freesia wasn't so prominent!! It detracts from the softness and smoothness of the iris and orris. A nice try, perfectly respectable and wearable for many situations, but I am just not a big fan of freesia. I am going to experiment with layering. The review below mine suggested Rain oil. I have China Rain - might be a nice place to start. Silage and longevity are moderate.

a bright crisp floral, totally different than what I normally wear. Surprisingly I like it, I got the rollerball with an order or I wouldnt have picked it myself.. The violets would normally keep me away but this is Crisp without really being green (I cant stand green scents) I'm very happy with it.. Sillage is pretty good, not sure about longevity yet as I'm still wearing it..

I love this so much, very girly, feminine scent. It's a happy floral that makes me feel light and carefree. I have a decent perfume collection and my friends are used to the menagerie of scents I waft around, one particularly hard to move girlfriend commented on how lovely this was. It has good silage and longevity and is well blended, I don't find any hard edges to this lady.

It's a beautiful floral perfume. I liked it enough to purchase it and I don't generally feel that way about straightforward floral fragrances. While it's nice for daytime wear, I find myself getting bored of its one dimensionality. I generally prefer perfumes with a more sensual base and the musk in Marchesa is barely noticeable, so it feels a bit grandma-ish to me at times.

lets start with the good, beautiful bottle and the smell is nice but.... now the bad.... very over priced for a smell that has no staying power, no projection what so ever and on me all i get is musk, so for JUST MUSK this is seriously over priced. You can get a great smelling musk at the drugstore for $25 or less, this is a rip off big time.

Beautiful floral fragrance. Delicate creamy florals, jasmine and iris with soft cozy musk hues. Violet leaf provides freshness to this combination. Touch of sweetness noted in here too. Very feminine scent. Posh looking packaging. Nice nice! Best for cooler weather, but this can be worn year round. Got 6 hours out of this wonderfulness:)

I really love this perfume for the springtime. It is fresh and happy...and a bit sharp and green which I tend to like this time of year. It has fairly decent longevity and silage. The bottle is elegant and looks very unique among other bottles on the dresser. It is a very happy scent...for me anyway, and I feel vibrant when I wear it.

Idk why but when I first spray this I get a blast of green!, after a few minutes the floral scents show up and the scent becomes pleasant. I'm enjoying this stage! Maybe "like" will turn to "love" at dry down. I got it very cheaply from Marshalls so no loss. I think the bottle is unique and quite pretty.

This is a pretty floral with a clean edge, very inoffensive and office-appropriate scent. There's a sharpness at first that dries down into a clear floral, which then dies down to nothingness after about four hours. I like it, not least because this is easily the most beautiful bottle in my collection.

Here's an add on to my review: A beautiful clean fresh & relaxing floral I sprayed it on my pillow before I went to bed one night and a couple of nights later I could still smell it so it has pretty good lasting power on fabrics not so much on the skin about an hour or 2.

Prettier and lighter than you'd think with these notes. A top note of iris would ordinarily have me heading in the opposite direction--and quickly. Sophisticated as to be expected. My first impression was this is something I'd wear to an upscale outdoor summer wedding.

This is a happy, bright floral in an eye-catching, fun bottle. Lots of fans of Marc Jacobs Daisy will be sure to find another love with Marchesa. To me this is mainly a freesia scent, with subtle hints of iris. This is a must-try for freesia lovers.

this is my go to fragrance for when i want to tone down and not make a statement. its exceedingly elegant and the rollerball is super pretty. the drydown smells exactly like the garden my mom had in my childhood house. definitely a good buy.

The clear freesia note attracted me immediately. Then it evolved to a powdery blend of musk and floral fragrances, without being sweet. The clean soft fragrance wears well and remains private. Yeah, the bottle is beautiful!

Lady-like, sophisticated, elegant. It smells beautiful, and this is coming from someone who hates anything dominantly floral. I wouldn't wear it, personally, but I find it lovely. And that bottle, absolutely beautiful.
