Finisterre

Citrusy and piney, herbal, and sea watery. It has a "deep water" feel to it. It's not a light splash of sea water, but more like diving into the sea. A stage feeling of warmth and cooling at the same time. It feels like there is a small amount of mint or eucalyptus in it to give it that cooling feel. But it could be the pine that does it. I can't for the life of me detect any sandalwood. Which means there is either little of it, or it's very well blended into the fragrance to not become a main note. Too much sandalwood would take away much of the marine theme. I get what @Nocciola23 says. There is a clear listerine like scent to it. To me, it's a "refreshing" smell. Like freshly brushed teeth. But i can see people not loving that. Where: Casual and semi-casual. It's not really an "elegant" or "dressy" fragrance. It screams vacation on a boat, or close to the sea. Office friendly, but wouldn't be a date night choice for me. When: Spring, Summer, fall. It's got summer and vacation vibes for me, and i think it's a great fragrance for the warm half of the year. Any time there is a hint of summer activities, this would fit right in. Who: Anyone. There is nothing too masculine about it, but it probably leans a bit that way. It just smells like sea breeze, pine, herbs, and citrus. I'd say mid 20's and up would appreciate this the most. Longevity on me is 12+ hours, and a moderate+ Sillage. 8.75/10. I'm adding this to my wish list. Interesting and different. Not your typical "marine" fragrance, due to the herbal and piney accords. But not too out there either, like some other brands sea breeze fragrances can get. Recommended to sample.

Finisterre took me by surprise. I bought it un-tried, pre-owned. I love every single scent Maria Candida Gentile creates, and this one was addictive. Maria Candida Gentile. What a name, What an artiste. She’s a Mâitre Parfumeur I admire so much, it almost hurts. The simplicity of combining few notes. The boldness of her scents, her uncompromising philosophy of high quality ingredients and storytelling through scent. Sometimes, I’m daydreaming of sitting in her sunny laboratoire slash study, watching her work in progress, learning from her endless wisdom of artisan craft. But that is a little beside the point. On topic: I have not been voluntarily near acquatic scents since a deep crush on L’Eau d’Issey in the early nineties, but Finisterre is like no other aromatic acquatic: There is no hint of wet dog, or stale water, or cucumber sliced yesterday. Finisterre is sea and sun and sun-dried, salty stones, sexy in a nerdy way, yet oh so confident. And not important, but an observation: I never get so many questions as to what I’m wearing, and please write the name down, as to when I’m wearing Maria Candida Gentile’s Finisterre. Finisterre works well with: Reading Joan Didion or Don deLillo. A Wes Andersson movie Adidas sneakers, boxfresh Coffee made of newly roadsted and grinded quality beans of singular origin. Can be combined with Gucci’s Memoir d’une Odeur for added aromaticness.

The first impression that I get is walking on a sandy beach, the salty breeze is in my tangled hair and the wind is blowing gently from the sea. I am not particularly fond of aquatic scents, still, this one to me is impersonating the freedom of the summer, the fresh air you breathe on an early morning. I will definetely reach for Finisterre even when the summer is over, to reminiscence the sunny days

Looking at the comments I think there are more hardcore seaweed/algae/still green water fragrances than this one. Finisterre is a sour/tart fragrance that is well balanced and wearable. What makes it stand out from other marine frags is pine tree. I'm instantly teleported to seaside dunes covered with pine forest - lovely!

This is actually awesome! Totally unwearable in my opinion, but awesome in so many ways! I understand that some people could find this repulsing - it's really edible, but edible like the stuff only few people appreciate in their dishes. "Finisterre" is a salty scent that's all about aromatics, the algae, weeds and less about the actual breezy, fresh aspects of the sea. "Finisterre" has some really herbal, almost vegetable like qualities (think of celery and parsley) mixed together with the unmistakable smell of freshly caught fishes. It actually reminds me of some foods my dad used to make. It's not bad, it's just not something people could find generally as something nice. I can't imagine wearing this and I did get some weird comments while sampling, so it's no pleasing to others. Nevertheless - worth a try due to expierence. Very low sillage, but lasted some 10+ hours.

Wearing this fragrance regularly reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld when Kramer wants to create a perfume that smells exactly like the beach. I have limited experience of the realistic aquatic genre but I can’t imagine anything more authentic than Finisterre. The issue is what the recipient of Kramer’s pitch tells him: we take a shower after the beach because we don’t want to smell like it. So although I really admire the artistry behind this scent, like it ok for the novelty, and even receive compliments when I wear it, I can’t see myself ever getting a full bottle. On my skin, the fresh and salty sea notes are almost eclipsed (in the first couple of hours) by a very powerful anise component, as if I woke up on a beach in the morning covered with seaweed and sand, but also having spilled a bottle of sambuca on myself. This tempers over time as the scent generally mellows. It lasts an impressive amount of time, seeming to disappear but then come back prominently albeit close to the skin. Although this is a beach scent, for me it is more redolent of mild or even cold days by the sea and I can’t imagine wearing it in very hot weather: for me it would befit either a damp summer or cool winter day on the coast. That impression might come from the soft woody base as much as the ozonic notes.

Ok, the top notes of this are pure Listerine mouthwash, but give it a chance! After about an hour the top notes die down completely and you're left with a really pleasant, salty and fresh scent. It is very similar to Salina by Laboratorio Olfattivo, a serene, gentle beach scent. Addictive.

Anise + seaweed = Very unpleasant eggy smell. This is repulsive,

I hate it. I am not fond of marine scents, but this is disgusting. Straight up repulsing.

Aqua, pine, sandalwood, metallic note, slight table salt, sea spray, and fir. Mostly like a sea spray, mildly sour and rancid. Nothing so special about it other than being soft and skin close which makes it kind of good of you like to be around someone who dislikes fragrances. Maria Candida Gentile fragrances aren't meant to be groundbreaking, and that's quite obvious from her creations as all her fragrances have that common factors which are soft, safe, and skin close. In my opinion, the safe and common are the major factors of her fragrances. I believe she is quite afraid to hit the box to get out of the safe zone OR maybe she's not a world adventurer! A first rule of thumb for an artist is to see the world, the different culture, the civilizations, and then a ray of inspiration will hit you, fill your body with ease, and make you realize what you've been missing all your life! I can't lie that i wasn't excited to sample MCG fragrances as they were quite predictable and overly common and safe to my taste! was trying to get deep into it but unfortunately no use! anyways, i think after all it's her choice.

I'm a huge fan of Maria Candida Gentile's work but, unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about Finisterre. The fragrance moves in similar territories of, say, I Profumi Del Forte Tirrenico (the sandalwood + marine combo), Profumum Acqua Di Sale (the aromatic quality) or, to a lesser extent, Salina by Laboratorio Olfattivo (the pine + aquatic notes combo). A sharp-ish and very powerful blend of watery aromachemicals and woods with piney facets and immortelle. The infamous *bilge* note which is typical of these kind of fragrances, is amped up to the maximum and the thickness of the immortelle and woods, doesn't help to smooth down Finisterre's penetrating power. Now, I'm not *particularly* averse to aquatic notes in perfumery (while I still can't say I'm particularly fond of them either) but this is really too much to my tastes. With that said, if you like the genre, give this a chance as it's rapidly becoming a favorite amongst fans of this type of comps. Massive projection and exhausting lasting power. Rating: 5/10

this is the best aquatic i own.... and i own them all. stays on skin for hours and clothes for days. do not over apply. this is what can be headache inducing. georgeous!!! can't wait to smell elephant and roses.
