Syconium

Super tender and comforting nutty scent with lots of milkiness and warmth. Beautiful sandalwood in the base with a soft honey accord (it’s not sugary or animalic, just a very delicate beeswax and honey). I also feel something a bit tart and bitter. Maybe it comes from the fig note. But in general it’s very lovely! But be aware that it stays very close to the skin.

If you're looking for a fig-centric fragrance, or even a straightforward gourmand, you won't find any of those in Syconium, however much the note list seems to justify those expectations. Instead, the shining star is without a doubt the sandalwood: it defines the scent from start to finish, even though those two phases smell very different from each other. In the opening, it's really very soapy, to the point of being startling. I think this is the most milky part, but at least at first, it's definitely not the edible kind. I like it, though, in combination with the woody aspect of the sandalwood that's shining through even in this early stage: the effect of both of them together is interesting, unexpected but nice. Then as it dries down it becomes a lot warmer, a more classical gourmand-adjacent sandalwood, and the notes list starts to fall into place: I get a little milk and honey now. But it's still far from an edible kind of scent - the honey note is more beeswax than anything else, and the dominance of the woody aspect makes that milkiness feel a little green.... figgy, even? But as others have mentioned, it starts to wane pretty quickly at this point, so it's hard to tell. I wish I got more fig in this, and that it lasted a bit longer, but I have to say I am intrigued by this none-edible gourmand woody maybe-figgy weirdo of a scent; it's definitely confirmed my impression that you'll rarely be disappointed and never bored by a Maria Candida Gentile perfume. I'm going to try to get a little decant, if I can, to make up my mind.

I had never heard of SYCONIUM before I got a sample in a swap and when I first checked it - I had so much hopes! I always do when trying fig perfumes as after so many tries none have worked on me. The thing about SYCONIUM is - there is no fig, none at all, but oh boy is this a little gourmand heaven. A milky sandalwood with just a bit of honey added - nutty, gourmand and so very, very innocent! It lasted only 4 hours and stayed very, very close to skin, so I couldn't justify the price tag. It does resemble a bit SL Jeaux de Peau minus the spices and all the heaviness. SYNCONIUM is all about the most innocent accords - a wonderful skin scent which unfortunately lacks in the longevity department. Really something different from the all Maria Candida Gentile line as all the others are more straight forward, more heavy and powerful.

It doesn't matter what Syconium smells like because it's so faint that you won't smell anything at all unless your nose is within an inch of where you applied it. Which is a shame since it's actually a very lovely scent.
