Iris Pallida

Opens fresh and verdant, a far cry from the bottom-of-the-makeup-bag irises of old. On my skin chemistry, the hazelnut fades fast (sticks well to paper) and the cashmeran, rose, and sandalwood take supporting roles in the sweet, green iris. Woody, green and floral. Absolutely stunning for spring, but may also find its footing in all four seasons. Full bottle worthy. This sits close to the skin.

The best part is the opening. The Iris smells so natural and appealing. The scent leans dry, but not overly so. The dry down is a let down. It smells designer-like and predictable - Ambroxan heavy, sandalwood and patchouli. Overall, the scent is *way* too simplistic. The overdose of Ambroxan is a complete turn off for me.

I bought the MARIEJEANNE discovery set and this one was the perfume I was the most interested in, as I love Iris. When I first smelled it, I hated the scent. It almost made me want to gag. But then, I tried it again and I think that my nose has gotten used to the scent, to the point that I've become addicted to it and will purchase a full bottle. It opens up with a very floral scent mixed with (A LOT) of hazelnut. It reminds me of Kinder Bueno (I know, that's very specific) but mixed with flowers (iris). It's addicting. But it may be hard for people who don't like very gourmand/sweet scents mixed with floral notes. It's almost as if you are wearing a very heavy floral perfume while eating some Kinder Bueno. It might not be everyone's taste. Unfortunately, on paper, the nutty notes disappear after 2 hours (they are only in the top notes). Then, a beautiful iris scent comes in, it's not very sweet anymore, it's just floral. After 14 hours on paper, a beautiful sandalwood/woody/warm lingers. It's almost like a "masculine" type of scent. Very warm but also pretty faint. I don't really smell the patchouli. I think this perfume is perfect for cold weather and reminds me of Christmas and all the chocolate I eat during that time (beware, it's not chocolate, but the Kinder-Bueno-type of scent makes me think of chocolate haha).

At first spray, this fragrance opens with a beautiful vintage makeup bag vibe—soft, powdery, with hints of hazelnut and iris. Unfortunately, that charming opening fades within moments, giving way to a well-balanced blend of sandalwood and patchouli, lightly dusted with ambroxan. It settles into a dry, dusty woodiness that lingers quietly on the skin, with projection fading fairly quickly. After first encountering it in Paris, I was enchanted by that initial impression, enough to order a decant subscription upon returning. However, on closer acquaintance, it felt a touch underwhelming. There’s a quiet sophistication here—casual, mature, yet not old-fashioned, with commendable ingredient quality. It’s an enjoyable woody fragrance, though perhaps more comforting than memorable.

What a lovely smell. I can imagine Marie Antoinette wearing this. I find it very Romantic, Complex and Clever at the same time. It's a love letter written on a thick matte paper by a woman full of life and lovers, nibbling on macaroons while she writes. Smudges of sweet hazelnut butter and delicate fingerprints trace the page like memories. Before sealing it, she presses a kiss to the paper, her powdery lipstick leaving a soft print, and finishes with a mist of her rose perfume. By the time the letter arrives, months later, the scent has faded—but the echo of her gesture lingers, tender and unforgettable.

I was given an official sample in a niche shop when buying other perfumes. It opens a generic iris: not too powdery, not too rooty or carroty. I recognized hazelnuts only after seeing an official pyramid. It smells very clean and also with freshness from citrus or something else. I like it’s not too chemical. I disagree it smells old or vintage. It smells modern. It’s good for everyday office perfume,would be good for nurses, baby sitters etc. I would not buy it as I have a lot of irises and this one misses the character. However if I wanted only one iris fragrance this one would be a good candidate

Marie Jeanne is a subsidiary brand of Robertet and apparently a showcase for unique technologies for the creation or extraction of odors, which are developed in the corporation. Iris Pallida demonstrates what an exquisite aroma of orris root can be obtained using modern technology. The unsweetened iris smells of nuts, rain and dampness and would make a very expensive interior fragrance. On the skin, however, the intellectual and cold Iris Pallida disappears in an hour or two.

Perfumes became like fast food. It a burger but it isn't meat really. It's a smell of wood, flower, etc. but it isn't really extracted from woods or flowers, etc. The price however skyrocketed in both cases.
